Summoner Spells Back to Top

Flash & Heal are what most ADC's are taking with this meta. The additional heal to your laner mixed with the movespeed increase to help chase or run away from champions is too valuable to take anything else in lane. Cleanse? Get a QSS. Barrier? The effective health increase is only slightly larger than heal. Both scale with your level, but you get an additional movespeed and an extra heal to an ally. Heal>Barrier.

Masteries Back to Top

Offense Tree:
Take 5 points in fury instead of Sorcery, you are playing ADC.

Feast is the best option among the three for the health boost in lane. Ranged champions very rarely take Double Edged Sword; you are going to take a lot of damage as a Vayne with 550 range. Expose Weakness is decent I suppose if you want to cheese them lvl 2 with a Brand or Annie support, but I reccoment Feast 99% of the time.

The minimal AD boost from Natural Talent is so minimal, and you have no AP scalings. Take Vampirism for the lane. You will need lifesteal to sustain in lane.

Oppressor is the next option of choice, you will want that instant damage from condemn or ganks to finish off enemies. You are taking a bigger gamble with Bounty Hunter. It does increase late game damage, but that is assuming you have killed many unique champions.

Battering Blows: you are playing ADC.

Fervor v. Warlord's Bloodlust. The keystone decision. I think either are perfectly viable depending on your playstyle. Since Vayne's abilities aren't skillshots and are all auto reliant, Fervor's ability is slightly reduced as opposed to someone like Lucian's Lightslinger passive mixed with his Q and an auto attack before hand, which gives an instant 4 stacks of Fervor. You can take Warlord's Bloodlust to help sustain in lane and when you don't want to go B in case of crucial objectives that may be coming up after a skirmish.

Utility Tree:
You are going to want to take Savagery because it makes last hitting MUCH easier in lane. You already get movespeed running towards enemy champions from your passive: Night Hunter, and you need to be able to make it out of lane to be a threat in the mid/late game. CS and last hit so you can get that BotRK.

Secret Stash v. Assassin. I like Secret Stash again for the increased pot time, it really helps in lane since you will most likely get poked down pretty hard. Assassin is honestly pretty good too, especially if you find yourself split pushing with vision later in the game, you can get that extra damage that you might need.

Merciless is a no brainer, you want the extra dmg to low health targets to help you clean up and finish off targets over mana regen.

Dangerous Game is also a no brainer.

Your passive ability, Night Hunter, grants you thirty move speed when walking towards enemy champions. This includes stealthed champions. Keep an eye on your movespeed level 1, it can give you some clues as to where the enemies lie.

Put your first point in Tumble, you need it for dodging skillshots like Mystic Shot, Piltover Peacemaker, etc. It also counts as an auto attack reset, so when you go to auto attack, immediately Tumble sideways for a faster second auto.

Some people like the E utility second so you can fend off combos in lane (Alistar WQ) or if the enemy laners get too aggressive. Personally, I feel like if you have to E the enemy's away, you aren't positioning correctly in lane anyways. I take W second as it gives you better trading potential and True Damage. Killing those minions with the third tick is much easier.

At lvl 3, take Condemn. An important note: your E will consume a proc of your Silver Bolts passive. So for quick trading, your combo goes: auto, auto reset with Q immediately, and then E them for the consumption of your W. This combo is very mana intensive (~90 mana for Condemn, and 30 for Q). That is why I take some mana regen in my rune page.

Obviously you want to take your Ultimate ability at lvls 6, 11, and 16. It is what makes Vayne Vayne.

"Do I max W or Q first?"

Running the math on some numbers, we see that Vayne will not be able to get much out of maxing Q before she gets two points in her ultimate, or level 11. She will only be able to Tumble twice in her ultimate. Her lvl 1 ultimate lasts 8 seconds, and at level 6 when you first get your ultimate, your Q (which you can only physically put 3 points into at that point) will be on a 4 second cooldown. So getting the extra innate damage in your W is better, since you really only get utility out of your Q. If you really need the utility from a decreased cooldown from your Q, then take the max. But a Q max post 6 would be best, since you don't really benefit from true damage until the enemies build defensive stats. Your lvl 2 ultimate lasts 10 seconds, which by then, you should have maxed out Q for a CD of 2 seconds. Much more effective for stealthing and repositioning.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    The core lvl 1 buy.
vamp scepter is core on Vayne since you will want to be rushing a BotRK. You need lifesteal in lane for sustain. Attack speed helps on her too since you can get more W procs off.

Core Items

BotRK is a core item on Vayne because of the attack speed and dueling potential it gives her. You can choose your attack speed item next: PD for even better 1v1 potential, Firecannon for better range in team fights and sieges, and Shiv if your team lacks waveclear.

Situational Items

If you want pure damage, rush IE after your BotRK + AS item. Crits are OP. I don't often get Dominik's because you have innate armor shred from your W. Youmuu's is a fun situational item I usually don't get, but if you're really ahead and want to 1v1 anyone then it's pretty good. BT is good if they're rushing thornmails or you need to stay alive against heavy poke teams. I get QSS in most games and delay finishing Scimitar unless I'm behind and need the extra AD ASAP. If they're magic DMG heavy/you want survivability then get QSS + Maw. If you want to output a lot of dmg, get IE + BT.
You really shouldn't have to build these items much unless you're behind or your team has a greater damage threat than you. Maw/Scimitar is more than enough to keep you alive, but if you want a safety net or you keep getting Nidalee Q'd, or Leblanc QRWE'd, then Banshee's is decent. Sterak's Gage is decent against dual assassins like Zed mid Quinn top. GA is almost never bought because when you die you sacrifice your positioning for the revive.

The core items on 70% of my Vayne games are: Berserker's Graves, Blade of the Ruined King, Phantom Dancer, Infinity Edge, Last Whisper, and a situational item like Guardian's Angel, The Bloodthirster, or an early QSS that I delay to finish into Mercurial Scimitar lastly.

Read into the builds to fully understand my thought process on building items.

Item builds are a core part of what make you better from other players. Building smart wins games. Getting rekt by Flash Tibbers? Get a Banshee's. Can't auto the tanks because they all built Thornmail? Get the Bloodthirster ASAP. No thornmails, but three tanks? Get Last Whisper into Infinity Edge after your BotRK + PD.

Be smart, play efficiently. Win the game.

VS

Ashe

Hard

She outranges you and matches you in DPS. Slowing effect makes your passive weaker. If she lands her ult on you, there is a 100% chance you lose that fight.

VS

Caitlyn

Hard

100 additional range on you. If you agress her, she will EQ nuke you. Her traps make tumbling hard, and her ultimate reveals your stealth.

VS

Corki

Medium

Kind of a boring lane. Tumble away from his Q and you should be able to farm and out scale him.

VS

Draven

Hard

His Q lvl 1 hits for 45% of his AD while yours is like 25%. He can smash you in lane. You will need jungle pressure to win this or he has to substantially mess up his lane.

VS

Ezreal

Medium

If you want to tumble forward for harass and don't get it off, his Q will do more damage to you than one tumble empowered auto. He can E when he sees you E if he's near a wall and you will just shove him back. Ezreal is a medium/hard counter. Farm up for that late game baby.

VS

Graves

Medium

Graves has a lot of up front burst damage, being a caster ADC. You need to dodge his Q and R to have a chance in a fight, or just burst him out when you have him condemned. You can tumble away sideways or backwards if you think buckshot will hit you (his Q does the most damage out of his barrel and least damage the further away it hits you; same with his ultimate.)

VS

Jinx

Medium

If you can manage to not get E'd by her chompers, and tumble/dodge her W, she will get crushed if you get in range of her. Be careful to not get harassed down with her extra range on her Q toggle.

VS

Kalista

Medium

Kalista lanes are tough if her support is ranged (W dmg op). She will win long engages with her Rend dmg unless you stun her and rek her before she can proc it. She also makes it hard to tumble harass due to her passive Martial Poise. Farm up and get the 1v1's, you have the dmg to kill her.

VS

Kog'Maw

Easy

This matchup largely depends on your supports. Both are hypercarries, but kog has no mobility. If you can get on him he's over with. However, he can rek you in lane if you don't respect his W.

VS

Lucian

Hard

Now most people think Lucian get rekt by Vayne, but that is hardly ever true. Lucian is generally viewed as a lane bully, and your reactions have to be godlike to tumble out of his Q. You can E him out of his channeled ultimate, and you will most likely win 1v1's if you can condemn him into a wall.

VS

Miss Fortune

Medium

MF is a lane bully but is easily counterplayed. Dont stand behind minions (or lane partners) that she can get a double up on to hit you. She has a channelled ulti, much like Lucian, but has to stay in one spot (Condemn or tumble out of it).

VS

Quinn

Hard

This lane sucks. God. I hate Quinn ADCs. Her duelling potential is probably the strongest among ADCs but she sucks as a traditional AD becuase of her short range.

VS

Sivir

Medium

Sivir will shove you in over and over. You better learn how to last hit properly under tower or you will fall behind hard. Tumble her Q and stay away from minions when she uses W. The good news is out of lane you can destroy her 1v1. Her spellshield only saves her from condemns.

VS

Tristana

Hard

Tristana will destroy you if you try to max W and get 3 autos off. She will E you, pop her Q, get three autos off in the time you do too, and you will lose the trade hard. She can ult you away and hop away with her W. Worst news is she scales just as hard as you do late. Tough matchup.

VS

Urgot

Easy

Tumble his E. Tumble his Q. He scales off of stacking armor. Guess what, you're Vayne. Armor is a joke to you. GG.

VS

Varus

Hard

Out ranges you, can poke you hard with his 3 autos and Q. His ult destroys you, he can just sit and kill you from superior range. Better tumble that.

READ FIRST Back to Top

Hi, and welcome to my Vayne Guide!

My summoner name is Hotline Ping, where the L is a capital "i".
I am an NA diamond ADC main with over 2000 Vayne games. I have played her in almost every imaginable matchup.
Take what I say and apply it to your game. I will not go into deep game depth or wave tactics with the Vayne guide.

The first thing you need to know is that Vayne's lane is horribly weak. Her strength comes with going even in lane and outscaling the enemy ADC, as she is arguably the strongest late game carry and duelist.

Going even in lane is a win for a Vayne. You will have to sacrifice some farm for better positioning. She is not an easy ADC to play, and her mechanics are some of the hardest to master.

Vayne's passive, Night Hunter, grants her 30 movespeed when she is moving towards an enemy champion. The passive's range is quite large. Activating her ultimate triples Night Hunter's move speed buff (to 90). Note: this includes stealthed champions, fog of war, etc. Use this to your advantage level 1.

Her Q, Tumble, repositions Vayne a short distance to your cursor. Her next auto attack is empowered, doing increased physical damage. Note: Tumble does not reset when attacking structures. You must target a neutral camp, enemy champion or minion, etc. to consume Tumble. Note continued: Tumble resets Vayne's auto attacks. You can cancel the animation after her auto attack goes through with an instant Q after the auto attack is in the air, for an increase in your Damage Per Second (DPS). An ideal lvl 2 trade would be to auto attack, auto attack again, and as soon as the second auto is in the air, Q sideways and auto attack again. The third auto will proc your W and do increased damage from the Q damage, as well. Third note: you can Tumble out of small walls like Cataclysm and Anivia W.

Her W, Silver Bolts, is a passive. The purifying element. Three consecutive attacks or abilities on an enemy (champion, minion, neutral monster, etc.) will do true damage based on the target's missing health. (4,5,6,7,8%) It does a minimum damage, as well. Note: Your E counts as a tick of Silver Bolts. Utilize this in lane to outtrade your opponent and disengage all at once.

Her E, Condemn, is a displacement bolt that will stun if the enemy struck collides with terrain. The terrain may be anything from a wall, Anivia W, Trundle Pillar, Jarvan Cataclysm, etc. Note: the bolt will displace the enemy in relation to where you are at the point of bolt collision with the enemy. AKA you can cast your E and immediately flash in a direction where the enemy would be behind a wall, and it will move then back from where you flashed, making it much more difficult for enemies to counter flash.

Vayne's ultimate, Final Hour, gives her bonus Attack Damage (50/70/90) and triples her movement speed from Night Hunter. In addition, she is granted Stealth for 1 second while casting Tumble (Q) during Final Hour. This is what makes Vayne a force with which to be reckoned.
