Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png  Flash - Flash is a great spell for repositioning, escaping and outplay. Take this 100% of the time.

7.png Heal - Heal is a great spell for survivability throughout skirmishing, it is also decent for escaping as a result of its granted movement speed.

1.png Cleanse - Ideal for extremely high cc teams (Leona, Lissandra, Ivern etc).

99 times out of 100 I will take flash and heal, the standard for AD Carries. Only against teams with 4+ high CC champions will I even consider cleanse.

Masteries Back to Top

I have found that running 18-12 is the best layout of masteries for S7 so far. Lane survivability is key for Vayne's success mid-lategame. I'll go through why I choose some less obvious choices below:

Vampirism as opposed to Natural Talent:

The way I play my Vayne is through sustaining lane and trying to farm as much as possible, sounds boring, but realistically other ADCs have a better kit to out-damage early and deny your farm. Vampirism offers 2% lifesteal whereas natural talent offers raw AD. 2% lifesteal does not seem all too much, but if you think about it, Dorans blade gives 3%. By taking this mastery you've almost double your lifesteal in lane and made the laning phase a whole lot safer.

Battle Trance as opposed to Double Edged Sword and Bounty Hunter

The way I see the AD Carry role is consistent damage throughout teamfights. The only reason I chose battle trance is purely for this reason, it is the most consistent out of the 3. In order to get all 5 bounty hunter stacks you must kill every enemy champion on the map at least once. From an AD's perspective, this may take some time to do as obviously the enemy toplaner is literally on the other side of the map. Battle Trance builds up to 3% throughout skirmishing which will happen almost every fight you have until the very late stages of the game. Double edged sword is my least favoured out of the 3; the reason for this is because it amplifies your damage taken. As an AD carry, this is a huge no-no.

Maxxing Q or W is completely situational based on the enemy team comp - here are a few things I pay attention to:

Skillshots - Dodging skillshots should come second nature to any half decent Vayne main. Maxing Q just makes dodging a complete breeze. Champions such as 25.png53.png161.png63.png412.png are reasons to max q. The reason for this is not just because they have a skillshot, but also the fact that it negates their other abilities as a result of this. For example, 111.png would not be a good example to max q as he can just R and walk up to you, using the rest of his abilities on you. 25.png on the other hand requires to hit the q in order to successfully land her other abilities.

Positives of maxing Q:

-High flat damage, good against squishy comps
-Very good mobility, great for kiting/dodging
-Synergies with crit, explodes squishies mid game
-Synergies with ult, even more flat damage, more invisibility time (Q not on CD)

Negatives of maxing Q:

Less % HP damage as a result of less points in W
Less consistent damage
Tank Meta (need W% HP damage)

When would you max w?

I max W when the enemy laner does not have lane-changing skillshots such as 53.png, and when the enemy team has a lot of high HP champions (paying close attention to the jungler), such as 2.png79.png421.png102.png106.png19.png. I pay most attention to the jungler because maxing W means it is still early game- you are most likely going to be fighting the jungler over those precious dragons. Fighting toplaners is very rare unless they tp to botlane (which can happen, but isnt frequent) so maxing W under the reason for fighting toplaners isnt a great idea.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Standard Start for almost every ADC. Provides health, lifesteal and damage.
    Forced to early back

Core Items

1300g+ BF 875g+Pickaxe Behind in lane, need sustain and high HP enemies 1500G Cutlass
    Rush Statik into IE
Second zeal item - PD for dueling potential, runaans for enhanced lifesteal or rapid for higher range
I almost always go LDR if there is one or two tanks on the enemy team. It provides to much damage not to get. Bloodthirster enhances sustain throughout fights immensely, if there is no need to buy a defensive item, this is what I buy. BotRK provides huge damage and kiting potential to tanks, should be considered for fighting champions such as Xin or Olaf. QSS is great for denying CC, for example, Lissandra R

Situational Items

I won't go into much detail of all the items as theyre relatively straight forward, but here is why this is the most popular vayne build atm.

My usual vayne path goes as: 3087.png3031.png3006.png3046.png3036.png3072.png

This build allows me to decimate teams and has a high potential to 1v5.

I buy 3102.png against 54.png
I buy 3143.png against 157.png222.png51.png because you cannot match their range. This item allows for survivability. If our team has hard iniation, I do not consider this item.
I buy 3026.pngagainst fed high burst champions such as 238.png29.png105.png

VS

Alistar

Easy

Vayne can negate Ali's whole combo with her vaynecondemn.png as Ali headbutt.png. This also negates his pulverize.png and makes it extremely hard to hit his alistare.png. This is however very mana costly and can be messed up relatively easily. To pull this off you must predict when Ali will use headbutt.png

VS

Ashe

Easy

Ashe is a relatively easy champion to play against- although she has longer AA range.

Ashes kit revolves around being a lane bully with her volley.png and being able to all in at level 6 with enchantedcrystalarrow.png. When playing against Ashe stay behind minions and go in for short trades; if you see her flurry stacks stacked then do not attempt to trade with her.

Mid-late game you can just collapse on her regardless if she has ult or not purely because you have more damage than her (if her q stacks arent active).

VS

Blitzcrank

Easy

Against blitzcrank max vaynetumble.png, this allows you to dodge those lane-changing rocketgrab.png.

Stay behind minions and reserve your vaynetumble.png for those filthy rocketgrab.png

Blitz is relatively easy to play against when you get used to reactive methods as opposed to predictive methods with vaynetumble.png. When rocketgrab.png is on cooldown, you should play aggressive as blitz will not be able to react to you.

Blitz rocketgrab.png  can be negated with  3140.png if youre fast.

VS

Brand

Easy

Max Q in this lane- this will help you to dodge Brand's w and q. This renders Brand useless as a support.

Buying boots early can also help to avoid skillshots.

VS

Caitlyn

Hard

Cait is a bit of a hyped up counter to Vayne, understandably she is a counter, however, there are harder champions to come up against.

Why is she a counter?

1. Longest range in game (bullies Vayne in lane).
2. Early game wave clear (you will be pushed in) with Q.
3. Traps are extremely powerful and can apply a lot of pressure.

How to deal with these:

1. Stay out of range, buy sustain and run Warlords, if you are forced to back early buy a cull and a refil pot.

2.Try your best to CS until you can buy statik- you should have better wave clear after this.

3.  Not much you can do about traps. Be weary of the ones that she can place out of view.

The way I play this lane is completely passive up until a jungler ganks- there is not reason to challenge a cait in lane as she has the kit to beat you. Dying early to cait is a lot worse than losing some CS as a result of being bullied.

VS

Corki

Easy
Corki is a relatively easy lane for Vayne, this is because most of his damage is dodge-able and he has a low aa range.

In a lane like this, I would play aggressive

Against Corki I max Q and trade before he has 3057.png
Beware of his Sheen and Tri-force powerspikes, Corki is very strong midgame.

Corki will push you in with his phosphorusbomb.png and ggun.png but you should be good when you get your 3087.png.

VS

Draven

Medium

My aim against Draven is just to survive the lane and play passive.

Draven becomes useless after laning phase- this is down to his short range and lack of CC in his kit.

You can collapse on Draven after you buy your IE.

VS

Ezreal

Medium

A good ezreal will never attempt to duel you head on, they will simply kite you back and abuse q range.

Ezreal spikes much earlier than you - be careful fighting him midgame.

If you see ezreal waste his e you can collapse onto him.

In lane:

Stay behind minions, passive farm

Late game:

You shouldnt have to worry too much late game, stay out of his Q range and focus on the front line. If he e's towards you, collapse on him.

VS

Fiora

Hard

When duelling Fiora, try not to use vaynecondemn.png to stun her.

Vayne's vaynecondemn.png has a relatively long cast time and can be obvious as to when it is being casted- any half decent Fiora will fioraw.png this, stunning you if done correctly.

Tumble into the direction where Fiora's vitals are; this will reduce her damage significantly.

VS

Jhin

Medium

Pre6 dont attempt to fight a Jhin- he outdamages you and has more in his kit to be able to kill you.

Early game, Jhin will be stronger than you as a result of his build path. Lethality is very strong right now and should not be contended with.

After 6 you should be able to collapse on Jhin when his support is not around (nor yours). One thing you need to take into consideration is how close he is to safety. Jhin can take you down to around 35-40% HP and finish you off from safety with his ultimate, be careful with this.

Jhins jhinq.png will slowly push the lane in so he is susceptible to ganks. Make your jungler aware of this.

VS

Jinx

Hard

Jinx in my opinion is Vaynes hardest counter. Not only does she have long range q's and ridiculous waveclear, but she also has a minigun that is extremely good close range.

She is a fantastic all round AD carry that can get completely out of control if she gets fed.

This is why you should play passive, buy cull if you need to and wait for your jungler to gank you.

Against Jinx, I usually max W in order to stay relevant at the early stages of the game. Although you are less likely to win duels with this, Jinx is much stronger at the early stages of the game and you will likely lose duels maxxing Q regardless.

If need be, buy randuins to sustain teamfights and Jinx's splash damage. You will win fights against her late game.

VS

Lee Sin

Easy

If you vaynetumble.png Lee Sins blindmonkqone.png you should survive the gank.

Have your mouse hovered on him so you are able to vaynecondemn.png if he tries to Insec you.

Please keep in mind that his kick can be QSS'd.

VS

Riven

Medium

When duelling a Riven you should exploit your vaynetumble.png invisibility as much as possible.

During this time you should reposition away from Riven so that she cannot aa you. If you see Riven have 2 q's already charged up, be ready to vaynecondemn.png her away, rendering her combo useless.

VS

Sivir

Easy

A good Sivir will not attempt to fight a Vayne, she will push you in throughout laning phase, making it hard to CS as you cannot contend with her sivirw.png and sivirq.pngpushing power.

Try and fight Sivir throughout laning phase as you can vaynetumble.png her sivirq.png and have more damage in your kit.

After you buy 3087.png you will be able to contain her pushing.

You can fight a Sivir at any stage in the game.

VS

Thresh

Easy

Max Q in this lane- this helps to dodge Thresh's threshq.png, if Thresh cannot land threshq.png it is very hard for him to hit his other abilities.

VS

Tristana

Medium

Short trades are the way to win lane against Tristana- you out trade her with aa-q-aa. DO not let her stack her e on you. Bait it before you trade with her, Tristanas tristanae.png has a very long cooldown.

Try not to lose your turret to her too quickly; Tristana is very good at pushing thanks to her tristanae.png. She will go onto destroy all T1 Turrets if you let her do this.

VS

Twitch

Hard

Twitch is a very hard champion to play against- he can get absolutely huge and turn into a late game monster.

In lane:

Twitch wins longer trades because of his e and his passive. If you are going to trade with him go for short trades.

If twitch q's and ambushes you, e him and q away.

Lategame

Buy GA lategame. This negates his ult. Without his ultimate he is useless.

You will explode twitch lategame, the only thing he has in his favour is his longer range. Make use of Q invisibility if he engages onto you

VS

Varus

Easy

Most of Varus' damage comes from his varusq.pngwhich is easily dodge-able with Vayne's vaynetumble.png. This immediately makes the lane tip in Vaynes favour.

Remember not to use vaynetumble.png to engage as Varus will just respond with his varusq.png and out-trade you.

Vayne can also dodge varusr.png relatively easily so fighting after 6 should be a breeze.

Careful of Varus's early-midgame. Varus builds lethality and does  a lot of damage as a result of this.

You can engage onto varus at any given point in the game.

VS

Yasuo

Medium

Vayne has a great kit to counter Yasuo.

Vayne vaynetumble.png can be used to counter Yasuo yasuoqw.png.

With vayneinquisition.pngactivated, Vayne can also vaynetumble.png when Yasuo knocks her up. This prevents Yasuo from using yasuorknockupcombow.png.

VS

Zed

Hard

When duelling zed keep a hold of your vaynetumble.png until zed zedr.png on top of you. When he does this, run to a wall and vayneinquisition.pngvaynetumble.png when zed re-appears. As a result of going to a wall, you should be able to pull your vaynecondemn.png off, stunning him.

My time with Vayne Back to Top

Vayne has been my main since around S5.

My prime elo was D3 promos at the start of S6. This was with a mixture of both Vayne and Jinx. I dropped LP because I stopped playing for 4 months and managed to get demoted to P2.

I have played over 1500 games with Vayne; I can't get enough of her. I have worked with some youtuber's such as  Phylol on the video "new vayne build" (the build I actually created and starting using in ranked, around d4). I have also appeared on multiple montages (typical Vayne main) on channels such as iFeeder and Champion Montage.

You can check out some of my plays on my plays.tv- www.plays.tv/dvus

I  am hoping to start playing properly again soon, with the hopes of reaching high diamond.

Feel free to add my EUW accounts - 5363616E6C6f6E, Copper Bolts or Ary.
