Summoner Spells Back to Top

"Not even death can save you from me!" -FB Veigar 45_64.png
I almost ALWAYS go Ignite-Flash, 4.png Flash is for getting away, getting a kill, surprise a motherfucker, let's just say it can do a lot and you're gonna need it. 14.pngIgnite is really handy at making you snowball, snowball and you're golden, the thing does impressive damage as you level up and is really good at picking off those pesky 50 health champions that just don't feel like dying today.

I don't often go 21.png Barrier on 45_64.png Veigar, but if you don't like 14.png Ignite or simply prefer extra defence, go for it. I prefer it over 7.png Heal on the mid lane, simply because of how many 14.png Ignites there are in the mid lane as it can save you a lot more than 7.png Heal.

6.png Ghost is the odd option. It's pretty much the League's version of a Energy drink. Pop it and woosh-woosh you're on the otherside of the map once it wears off. It's handy if you need to chase someone down or need to run off in open ground where your 4.png Flash won't help much.

12.png Right now I am going teleport on 45.png Veigar these days. It can do a lot of stuff, you can get back to lane quickly, save your mates being dived, get to baron quickly, and even escape with it if you can manage that somehow. It gives you global presence and you can actually afford farming and split pushing a lane and get right into the fight once it breaks out. It does however sacrifice a potential combat summoner spell, making your early game a tad bit weaker. Play a bit more passive.

If you are new to the game don't really know your way around, here's a little vocabulary to put you up to speed.
Vocabulary:
Tbh - Short for To be Honest.
AP - Short for Ability Power.
DoT - Damage over time. Basically it does X damage every second. One second damage is usually small, but it adds up the more seconds that have passed.
Cage - To use your veigareventhorizon.png Event Horizon to kill/trap someone in it.
Creeps - Dota slang for "minions", this also applies to jungle monsters
Farm - Prioritizing killing minions to gain gold and XP.
Burst - Term for dealing damage instantly or quickly in a short period of time.
100-0 - Essentially means damaging an enemy champion from 100% health and killing them at 0% in a short period of time.
CD - Short for cooldown. When you use an ability, that ability then goes on cooldown after you use it(With the exception of very few abilities), it takes time to recharge your spells.
Mpen - Short for Magic Penetration.
Gank - To gang up (or solo) and ambush the enemy member or team.
Roam - To actively move around the map from a lane.
Snowballing - Imagine a tiny snowball rolls down a hill, it collects more snow and more snow on it until it gets so big, nothing can stop it.
AoE - Short for Area of Effect.
Carrying/carry - As it sounds, a single champion capable of winning the game single handedly (if you feed him enough gold and experience like a baby) and is extremely powerful and critical to a teams chances of victory.
CC - Short for Crowd Control, is to influence and prevent the enemy teams abilities.
ty - Short for Thank you.
GG - Short for good game. Often times people say this at the end of a match.
wp - Short for Well Played.
Push - It's when you decide to kill enemy minion waves as fast as you can to get your minions to start attacking the turret. This can be also used when you simply want to refer as "ATTACK THE ENEMIES' BUILDINGS/BASE/TURRETS/NEXUS"

New Runes Back to Top

"I am all-powerful!" -FB Veigar 45_64.png

These are the runes I use on 45.png Veigar. You can read the notes below to understand why I chose them and my comparisons to the others and when to pick those. In the near future, the rune and masteries system is going to be completely bulldozed and replaced with this. I'll be keeping the old ones down below until the change is applied, thus they will be removed. I'm gonna miss them. Keep in mind this is all subject to change with time and experience and lots of testing. Now let's get into the theory crafting!
785.jpg

Summon%20Aerie.png?width=32 Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 Phase%20Rush.png?width=32 Nullifying%20Orb.png?width=32 Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32 The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=32  Sorcery  Transcendence.png?width=32 Celerity.png?width=32 Absolute%20Focus.png?width=32 Scorch.png?width=32 Waterwalking.png?width=32 Gathering%20Storm.png?width=32

Without a doubt, this is the main tree we want to pick. I mean, 45.png Veigar is the walking, breathing definition of sorcery and if he doesn't fit that then I don't know what will. Our secondary tree will be Inspiration, with honorable mentions to Domination. This build will be focused on mid-late game supremacy with heavy amounts of CDR. This gives us unparalleled teamfight capabilities, at the cost of having practically nothing supporting the early game.

Right off the bat, by picking Sorcery we get an extra 25+ AP. Solid, not much more to add.

Aery vs Arcane Comet vs Phase Rush
Summon%20Aerie.png?width=32 Aery is designed for supports and we can't use most of its power. Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 Arcane Comet seems very fitting thematically, it scales with 20% of your AP and can add a good deal of damage to your combo. One undersight is that you can't really throw out the comet immediately, you have to wait for your veigardarkmatter.png W to land which is a 1 second delay, and then wait and finally launch your veigarr.png ult. I would've picked Phase Rush in a heartbeat considering that I praise 6361.png Stormraiders as the greatest thing since sliced bread, however it's been gutted. The CD is 50% longer; the movespeed isn't a 40% at all levels, but anywhere from 15-40%; no longer easily activates upon using 1 or 2 abilities AND the slow resistance has been gated to melee champs only! After playing some games I come to the conclusion that Phase%20Rush.png?width=32 Phase Rush (and I discovered that your veigareventhorizon.png E counts to the abilities!) has helped me a lot more than Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 Arcane Comet, the latter missing a LOT despite the CC of your E.

Nullifying orb vs Manaflow band vs Ultimate Hat
Nullifying%20Orb.png?width=32 Nullifying orb seems useful, however it's situational. If you're against a hard AP matchup that has kill potential (55.png7.png134.png), this can save your life. But it is a small shield and does absolutely nothing to AD assassins.  Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32 Manaflow band is nice, but it pales in comparison to the The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=32 Hat rune. 45.png Veigar only has mana problems in the early game, and that's one of the reasons we rush a 3165.png Morello - to fix his mana issues. The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=32 Ultimate hat is great, the faster you can get your ultimate back, the more often you can become a TERROR in ganks. When this gets stacked + your potential 45% CDR, you can just obliterate a straggler, group up mid and push, and it will be ready again when you're knocking down their base.

Transcendence vs Celerity vs Absolute focus
Transcendence.png?width=32 Free 10% CDR? Yes please! This gives you the freedom of forgoing a 10% CDR item, allowing you to purchase big damage items like 3285.png Luden's, 3027.png RoA or 3003.png Archangel. And if you do buy CDR items, you get bonus AP in return. Celerity.png?width=32 Celerity, 3% movespeed is nice but that's literally it. Hard pass. Absolute%20Focus.png?width=32 Absolute focus is the damage version. However it's not active all the time, and 70% is a little high of a bar. I rather let a 1000 AP 45.png Veigar have 10% CDR than 40+ AP.

Scorch vs Waterwalking vs Gathering Storm
Scorch.png?width=32 I've talked about why DoT effects are horrible on 45.png Veigar. DoT abilities can't do damage if the target instantly dies, which is the point of our tiny master of evil. And Scorch doesn't even have an AP scaling! Terrible! Waterwalking.png?width=32 Waterwalking is kinder, you're going to be roaming around the river a lot so the speed allows you to reach a lane 2 seconds faster, and gives you a bit of AP to boot if you fight in it. However you're not going to be fighting in the river the entire game. The river is closely watched by 3340.png wards, 2055.png control wards, 2049.png botlane sightstone and the scuttler. That's why going through the jungle is so effective, by the time you pass by a ward in a bush it's already too late and I'm cutting off your route to the tower. Gathering%20Storm.png?width=32 Gathering Storm is a bottled 45.png Veigar in a rune. Goes perfectly with our style.

506.png

Summoner%20Specialist.png?width=32 Glacial%20Augment.png?width=32 Kleptomancy.png?width=32 Hextech%20Flashtraption.png?width=32 Biscuit%20Delivery.png?width=32 Perfect%20Timing.png?width=32  Inspiration Magical%20Footwear.png?width=32 Minion%20Dematerializer.png?width=32 Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32 Approach%20Velocity.png?width=32 Celestial%20Body.png?width=32

Our secondary rune path can either be extra utility from Inspritation, or being a strategist with endless supply of vision from Domination. Let's take a peek at the options.

Hextech Flashcontraption vs TotalBiscuits vs Perfect Timing
Hextech%20Flashtraption.png?width=32 An incredibly unique and interesting rune, but after failing miserably numerous times... it's really difficult to use. It's amazing if your team needs an initiator, and you can fill that role by jumping over walls and veigareventhorizon.png Eing them can cause MAYHEM. You can also use it to sneak by wards and gank a lane effectively, if you know where they are. However it gimps our damage for something like this.
Biscuit%20Delivery.png?width=32 The TotalBiscuits give you helpful sustain in a hard poke lane, but by the time you can get ALL the charges, the laning phase is over. They're consumables, and once you use them they're gone. Poof. Perfect%20Timing.png?width=32 The stopwatch, well the only thing I can imagine it being useful for is against 238.png Zed; but you lose some damage on your Q.

Magical Footwear vs Greek Economy vs Minion Dematerializer
Magical%20Footwear.png?width=32 Magical Footwear saves you 350 gold in the first 10 minutes, and gives a handy +10 movespeed to offset your lack of mobility. This is good to take vs people who don't have a lot of skillshots; but lvl 1 1001.png boots are really useful in surviving anyone with skillshots and simply from being run down.
Entering debt is a new concept, but you can easily get around this by looking at your gold, opening shop, do you have enough gold? If not, just grab a minion or two. Minion%20Dematerializer.png?width=32 NOW THE MINION DISINTEGRATER! That name alone gives me incentive to buy it! Anyways, the best minion to use this on is the melee minions. You can one shot the caster minions from lvl 9 and onwards, but never quite the melee minions. So that 10% extra dmg against them could help you one shot them. Cannon minions, just veigardarkmatter.png W and then veigarbalefulstrike.png Q and you got it, they're too rare to be used on. Super minions? You already do absurd damage and if you're still hanging on those charges that far into the game you're just wasting space. So, in short; use all charges on the melee minions. If you want one of these runes, give up Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32 Cosmic Insight, the Hextech%20Flashtraption.png?width=32 flashtraption is very unique for what it is.

Cosmic Insight vs Approach Velocity vs Celestial Body
Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32 We are gearing up to 40% CDR. This here is the icing to finish our evil cake, an extra 5% to the max cap; while providing a little discount on summoner spells. Approach%20Velocity.png?width=32 Approach Velocity is something I guess. It's good for saving your team but that's pretty much it. The 10% movespeed on an already stunned champion won't help in killing them. Celestial%20Body.png?width=32 Celestial Body. Uh. Yeah. If you spend 10 minutes doing nothing but farming you're basically an oversized minion in the eyes of your team. You're using up the lane which can apply the most pressure to the map in exchange for 100 extra health. -10% Dmg to champs is unacceptable. I do not recommend it over the other options.

127.jpg

Electrocute.png?width=32 Predator.png?width=32 Dark%20Harvest.png?width=32 Cheap%20Shot.png?width=32 Taste%20of%20Blood.png?width=32 Sudden%20Impact.png?width=32 Domination Zombie%20Ward.png?width=32 Ghost%20Poro.png?width=32 Eyeball%20Collection.png?width=32 Ravenous%20Hunter.png?width=32 Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=32 Ingenious%20Hunter.png?width=32

I gave honorable mentions to Domination, and ironically, it does more supporting than the tree dedicated to supports. There's only 4 options you can really choose from here, everything else is simply just too weak in comparison to giving up the options Inspiration provides. So let's look at them.

Zombie%20Ward.png?width=32 Zombie wards, Ghost%20Poro.png?width=32 Ghost Poro, Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=32 Relentless Hunter and Ingenious%20Hunter.png?width=32 Ingenious Hunter.
Zombie wards + Ingenious Hunter.

Ingenious%20Hunter.png?width=32 Ingenious Hunter gives you up to a massive 40% CDR to items, allowing 3157.png Zhonyas, 3040.png Seraphs and 3102.png Banshees to excel; but not only that, but to your TRINKETS! This allows you to relentlessly spam 3462.png Seers, sweep the entire map singlehandedly with 3364.png Oracles or just keep an 3340.png eye on every bush in the game. What do I mean by that? Zombie%20Ward.png?width=32 Zombie wards appear when you destroy a ward or your wards expire, but don't count to the ward limit. The theoretical problem with reducing the 3340.png yellow trinkets CD by THIS much is that you will hit the 3/3 cap fast, and as such have an excess of wards. This is where the zombie wards not counting towards your limit comes into play! You can theoretically keep up to 8 wards on the map. 8.

Ghost Poro + Relentless Hunter

Ghost%20Poro.png?width=32 Ghost Poro is the quality over quantity, but the quality isn't that much better. The main power that comes from the Poro is that it should be up ALL the time, independent of your trinket. Reliable form of vision, unless someone walks on to it. Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=32 Relentless Hunter is free 3117.png mobility boots. What happens when a 45.png Veigar that is 2 levels ahead of you, has 200 AP 9 minutes in, comes at blazing speed at you? You shit your pants and blow your 4.png flash early. Then get veigarr.png R'd. Relentless Hunter requires a very active playstyle, which is alright. It saves you a lot of down time and turns that into useful time; such as farming, and farming goes veigarbalefulstrike.png double for a champion like 45.png Veigar!

But something's missing. Hmm.

ButwhataboutElectrocute?! Electrocute.png?width=32
Ah yes. The age old question of 6362.png Thunderlords (Electrocute.png?width=32) vs 6361.png Stormraiders (Phase%20Rush.png?width=32). This time, it's much more balanced. Phase rush has been nerfed, while Electrocute has been buffed; making it even. They even behave the same way, just one is damage and the other is speed. However, there's one deciding factor that makes me prefer Phase Rush and that is the viable options of lesser tier runes. Domination doesn't welcome 45.png Veigar's playstyle, save for the vision. Sorcery has all kinds of interesting perks that you'd love to have ALL of them, so that's why I don't choose Electrocute.png?width=32 Electrocute.

Masteries Back to Top

"I am stronger!" -FB Veigar 45_64.png

I'll present to you what I think are the most overall well suited to deal with most situations, the rest you have to decide based on your playstyle. Are you more aggressive or like big purple numbers? Perhaps late game 1300 AP are your standards? That, will depend on what you like.

I go down the Cunning path simply due to the keystone mastery, the name pulled straight outta World of Warcraft, Thunderlord's Decree. 45.png Veigar's existence is burst, burst, burst, stun, zone control, burst; this helps with that since it has a 10% AP scaling! In the midgame, this is basically a free 3285.png Luden's echo and those two STACK! Your veigarbalefulstrike.png Baleful strike at the late game can do a whopping... 510+80% OF YOUR 1000 AP AND MORE?! Though of course, you have to wait at least 30 seconds to recharge this powerhouse. Is there better options? There are only 2 others that can be considered, Deathfire Touch and Stormraider's Surge. All others are for tanks, supports and AD champions only. Let's talk about Surge, this one gives you 35% Move speed if you deal 30% of an enemy champion's health in less than 2 seconds! Very easy to activate, probably can do with just a single veigarbalefulstrike.png Baleful if you're ultra fed. It has only a 10 second cooldown and it REALLY helps out with hit'n'run tactics on their carry or whatever, get the kill and get out. Now for Blackfire Touch... it's basically 3151.png Liandry that scales with AP instead of max health, almost useless. The only time I can consider this useful, is when you're sieging and you need to whittle their health down so that you can push down the tower while they are busy recalling and healing at the fountain, or to make a potential teamfight that does break out a little easier since they are more worried about a walking nuclear bomb with a staff ready to pounce on them at any given second.
Now that we're done with all that, let's talk about the smaller masteries.

I'll quickly run down the potential options on all the masteries very quickly to preserve time and effort. We'll begin with Ferocity, then off to Cunning, and if you want some tanky stats, Resolve... and away we go.

FEROCITY:
Fury vs Sorcery
6114.png Sorcery... because you're a mage, duh?

Fresh Blood vs Feast vs Expose weakness
6121.png Fresh Blood gives you extra damage on AAs in early trades, but you won't have many safe opportunities for this. If you have troubles surviving his laning phase or against a tough matchup, 6122.png Feast is a very good option. However, eventually these will fall off the longer the games go on; but that's alright, it served its purpose. 6123.png Expose weakness however, is a different story. 45.png Veigar is a teamfight monster, and synergizes very well with other hard CC and damage dealers alike. A singular well-placed stun is massive, this ensures your teammates can clean up on your catches of the day.

Vampirism vs Natural Talent
6131.png Yuck... vs Mmm delicious 6134.png AP. I'm against Vampirism, check out my thoughts further below this section on the DON'T DO IT part. Again, MORE DAMAGE!

Bounty Hunter vs Double Edged Sword vs Battle Trance
6141.png 1% Damage for each champion kill, you're very likely to nuke at least every member on the enemy team at least once. It's very easy to stack this up quickly if you roam with your ult. 6142.png DDS is doable, but that increased damage tickles me in the wrong areas. The increased damage is not only inferior after about ~19 minutes in, but the increased damage you take is a big no-no for a squishy mage. 6143.png Battle trance is hard to use, your stun doesn't last as long and you want to kill something and run away stat.

We're done with Ferocity. Wait... so early? Isn't this the offensive tree that 45.png Veigar would love? Yes, however the best keystone masteries are in the Cunning Tree, so we must branch off towards there.

Cunning:
 Wanderer vs Butchery
6311.png Move speed, or 6312.png 5 AD vs minions. If you're using the almighty pixel lord skin then you can see how painfully bad the attack animation is compared to the classic skin. And no, his veigarbalefulstrike.png Q doesn't count as a single target ability - which means it doesn't get 5 extra damage. 45.png Veigar suffers from no mobility, waddling around is his only method of transportation. Wanderer all the way, but if you have trouble with last hitting, Butchery.

Runic Affinity vs Secret Stash vs Assassin
All of the buffs are good on 45.png Veigar, red buff actually makes your autoattacks useful and a longer lasting blue buff. All-in-all, solid if you have a partner playing jungle.
6322.png Secret Stash provides incredible early game sustain and a longer lasting 2138.png Iron potion. If you have trouble surviving the laning phase and/or hard matchup, take Secret Stash. About 6323.png Assassin, hmmmm it's interesting and can help, but if you're alone you're probably walking somewhere/getting stacks/farming jungle, and if you do actually get an opportunity to straight up murder someone you probably didn't need the damage anyways. You will be doing a lot more with teammates, compared to being a lone wolf. I wouldn't recommend Assassin, or hiring one for that matter.

Merciless vs Meditation
Now that 45.png Veigar's veigarr.png ult is more dmg for lower hp, 6331.png Merciless is actually alright. Mana is always an issue to shortsy over here, more mana means more stacks and abilities, and helps with having enough fuel for skirmishes. I like the increased damage on ult, I've had way too many 20 hp survivors.

Bandit vs Dangerous Game vs Greenfather's gift
6342.png Bandit isn't very good on a midlane orientated 45.png Veigar, probably can snatch up to 150 gold max in a 40 minute game. You have the lane all to yourself, you shouldn't be missing many creeps. Dangerous Game however provides some nice mana refund and it saves you a surprising amount from death's jaws. 6341.png Greenfather's gift is also viable if you can exploit bushes, but a lot of the times you can't afford to go out of your way for it.

Precision vs Intelligence
Take precision if you want damage, grab intelligence if you want to achieve 40% CDR. This is why we left Ferocity hanging, we can get 6351.png 7% magic pen at level 18 regardless and get the glorious finishers. However... 6352.png Intelligence is extremely valuable. Any increase to the maximum cap is ludicrous! We're talking nearly cutting off our valuable and incredibly high damaging abilities cooldowns by HALF! If you don't get 40% CDR, it honestly isn't very useful by itself. Precision helps at giving you a good boost in damage. Let's be accurate.

Stormraider's Surge vs Thunderlord's Decree
Damage or mobility? 6361.png Surge will always come into play when you use your abilities to kill. 6362.png Thunderlord however produces nice early and mid game power however the only way to activate it is to use all your basic abilities and an AA, which is probably not easy without easily getting out of position.  You can pop it with your full combo, and that will certainly hurt, but it might be a bit overkill. You've heard me say it, movespeed is valuable on 45.png Veigar. Assassinating people and running away (with a slow resistance as well!) is commonplace. Plus, its CD is far shorter than 6362.png Thunderlord's. But if you get 3100.png Lich bane, then maybe lightning will suit you well.

dot-pattern.png DON'T DO IT  dot-pattern.png
6131.png Vampirism: Why should I waste 5 mastery points on 2.5% spellvamp? Bad news bears is that his veigarbalefulstrike.png Baleful strike counts as an Area of Effect... even though it makes little to no sense I guess it's for balancing purposes because you can get a little bit too much spellvamp on it. It does practically nothing in a real fight, I can imagine about 2 people will survive with 2 health due to Vampirism but it's still only 2 people. The real big heal can only come from his veigarprimordialburst.png ult, but even then the spellvamp is just too little. His veigardarkmatter.png Dark matter can do good work at healing, but most of the time it will hit only the caster minions unless you try to group them all up together. And besides, you probably want the AP instead of killing them outright. But what about the lifesteal? It can be good early on! If I wanted sustain, I could of just gotten Feast, or more health potions, or a 3211.png Spectre's cowl.

6363.png Windspeaker's blessing:
No.

6164.png Deathfire touch:
The only thing that can make me cringe more than a 3151.png Liandry on a midlane 45.png Veigar. Alright, let me break it down to your level, when you see it, what immediately pops up in your head? Oh it ends in the offensive tree it must be real good! or perhaps you've gone into the Ferocity tree so far that you have no choice and must end it with that right? Alright, now onto numbers... Let's assume it's the early game, you have 30 AP from a handful of minion pickings and runes/masteries. Now, the damage would be 6+6(20% of AP, 10% of 30 is 3, add another 10% +3)>>>>> OVER <<<<< ;THAT'S THE KEYWORD; 3 seconds. You saw the word, what's wrong with it? There's this difference in Damage over time abilities, ones that do OVER and PER. Over means the total damage after the duration. E.G 50.png Swain's swaintorment.png E does 400 damage OVER 4 seconds, this mean it gets divided equally to reach the surplus of 400. 400/4=100 damage per second for 4 seconds, 100x4=400. Boom. Per damage is basically damage EVERY second. 9.png Stickles' drain.png Drain is an example of damage PER second. Let's assume it's level 2 and he doesn't have any AP for mysteries unknown, it does 90 damage EVERY second. The target is in range of the tether for 3 seconds, 90x3=270 total damage. The big thing compared to OVER is the fact that it can last longer than it should! If it's now 6 seconds we'll have to only double the damage since, well it's obvious 2nd grade math here, it's now 90x6=540. Oh, maybe this time he learned that: Scary scarecrow+terrifying beam of lifedraining death=RUN AWAY! Now, 9.png Fid tries to drain but the victim instantly pops 4.png Flash and he's out of the drain in just a second! It will now be 90x1... well it's 90 damage what a surprise. There's the difference! A lot of things that do DoT are often avoidable skillshots or there's a way to cut off the damage early, damage OVER time are very reliable as it will always do the damage guaranteed. (unless shields and stuff, we all know that) Manthatwasalongashelldemonstration... Back to our earlier calculation of 45.png Veigar, 6+6=12 damage. Oh but there's one thing that we missed out on! AREA OF EFFECT AND DAMAGE OVER TIME ABILITIES APPLY HALF OF THIS DAMAGE OVER 2 SECONDS INSTEAD. Oh boy, it's now halved! Let's recalculate... 12/2=6 damage. Now we have to divide it evenly with the total duration (3 seconds), 6/3=2 damage. Two damage every second for 3 seconds. Wow. Fuckin' incredible shit right there. Let's add more insult to injury, his most spammy and reliable basic ability, veigarbalefulstrike.png Baleful strike counts as an Area of effect ability! So literally the only thing that can do maximum damage is his veigarprimordialburst.png ultimate! Oh I'm not done bashing it into swiss cheese, chances are you do so much damage you can kill the guy before you do a single tick of bonus damage from the Deathfire touch! Bummer, ain't it? The fact that the name bears the similarity of an incredibly important, core item on 45.png Veigar that he could synergize with, like no other... is now a thing of the past among Item Heaven. It has no right to even be called that. Alright that was way too long, if you're still reading then thank god there will be one less idiot (no offense but this is just ridiculous) picking this damn shit over Cunning's amazing stuff.
5.24: My  math... IT'S RUINED!!! Well... at least you got the point across right? Infact it's even worse than before which I thought wasn't possible. EDIT: Damn it, now they've changed the ratios yet again. Welp.

Everything else is situational and are fine, the rest is up to what you want.

"Do you realise who you're dealing with?" -FB Veigar 45_64.png

This is the only way I max my abilities on 45_64.png Veigar. Taking 3 points into your veigareventhorizon.png Event Horizon and then maxing your veigardarkmatter.png Dark Matter all the way can be a good idea. However, I just love the stun duration at rank 5, I don't really need the damage. It all depends on how easily you dominate.

veigarpassive.png Phenomenal Evil Power, oh man. I find more people than I'd like that thought his veigarbalefulstrike.png Q passive was his actual passive. Now they're living their dream! It grants 1 permanent AP whenever you touch an enemy champion with an ability!

Ability type: Constant effect
AP granted: 1
AP on takedown: 5

Pros:
+1 AP on ability hit, which is glorious
A lot more AP on kill in the early game

Cons:
Not much was added or changed compared to old Q passive
Replaced the % mana regeneration

veigarbalefulstrike.png Baleful strike is your bread and butter. You use it to get AP from early game minions to the late game monsters. Out of all your basic abilities, this does the most reliable damage. I take a point at level 1, and max it first. Keep a mental note that this, for whatever reason, counts as an AoE ability. What bad does that do? 1/3 Spell vamp and a reduced effect on 3116.png Rylai's scepter.

Leveling up Baleful strike provides: 40+ Damage, -0.5 Cooldown, +5 Mana cost.  AP Scaling is 60%

                                           Statistics:
                     Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 | Level 4 | Level 5
Damage:          70           110          150          190         230
Cooldown:        7             6.5            6             5.5          5
40% CDR:         4.2          3.9           3.6           3.3          3
45% CDR?:       3.85       ~3.6           3.3           ~3         2.75
Manacost:       40            45            50             55          60
Ability type:  Line Skillshot  (used to be targetted)
Utility:                       Perma AP on last hits
AoE:                                     Yes

Pros:
FREE AP!
Rather fast projectile
Makes that glorious ''Zing'' when you last hit a minion with Final boss
Decent enough damage to proc 6361.png Stormraiders
Can hit 2 targets, assuming you have good aim or some sort of 61_64.png Orianna ult, or something that sucks people in

Cons:
Makes you hungry for mana all game long
Can miss rather easily
Difficult to hit 2 at once

veigardarkmatter.png Dark matter, here comes the pain train! *Arcade launch, detected!* And there goes most of your health, this thing has a 1.0 AP scaling, which is absurd since it's also AoE. The cooldown of veigardarkmatter.png Dark Matter decreases by 10% for everyveigarpassive.png 50 stacks from your veigarpassive.png passive. This is used to kill creep waves and damage stunned champions, take a point at level 4 and max it last. We max it last as only the base damage increases, and it is already really high due to AP from items, and besides the utility from maxing veigareventhorizon.png E 2nd is amazing, compared to veigardarkmatter.png W where it's subpar in comparison.

Leveling up Dark Matter provides: +50 Damage and +5 Mana cost. AP scaling is 100%.
                                                   Statistics:
                       Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 | Level 4 | Level 5
Damage:           100           150         200         250         300
Cooldown:                                         8
40% CDR:          6              5.7          5.4          5.1          4.8
45% CDR?:        5.5          ~5.2          4.9        ~4.6          4.4
Manacost:         60             65           70           75           80
Ability type:                        Ground skillshot
Utility:                    Provides vision before landing,
                                      Lower CD per 50 stacks
AoE:                                             Yes

Pros:
AoE
High scaling
Very high base damage
Great range
Good at checking bushes as it gives vision
Ridiculously low cooldown:damage ratio
Cooldown lowers naturally as the game progresses

Cons:
Not reliable (unless they get stunned)
~1 second delay, however it's not a problem if they're stunned
Not big enough for good waveclear

veigareventhorizon.png Event horizon, this is one heck of a stun, remember that I said max your Dark matter last? This is so good, you max it Second! This baby can hit up to a 2.5 duration STUN! That's insane for a Mage! Not to mention that it can stun more than 1 person, it has insane range! Forget the damage on Dark matter, if you don't land a stun, you can't land a Dark matter either, and if they have 3111_32.png Mercury treads, you won't land the Dark matter even if they are stunned, so if you increase the stun, you increase the damage potential aswell. Take a point at level 2 and max it by level 13. It is slow, but it brings some serious pain and it can easily win games if you manage to deal with the 0.5 second delay.

Leveling up Event Horizon provides: +0.25 Second stun duration, -1 Cooldown and +5 Mana cost.
                                                      Statistics:

Cooldown:            18           17            16             15          14
40% CDR:           12.8        10.2          9.6             9           8.4
45% CDR?:         11.9        9.45          8.8          ~8.2         7.7
Manacost:           70           75            80             85          90
Ability type:                         Ground skillshot
Utility:           S tops enemy dashes upon being stunned
AoE:                                                Yes

Pros:
2.5 Second stun is too good, sorry for saying it for 20000 times.
Wins teamfights before they begin (instantly kill a guy, making it 5v4 AND they still got a second of vulnerability)
Very high range
Practically a 5 second CD if 45% CDR

Cons:
Highish mana cost
Not very useful on its own
Long CD without 40% CDR
0.5 Delay
Not the most reliable stun if they aren't afraid of you and just want to kill you. I'm looking at you, 238_64.png Zed.

veigarprimordialburst.png The ultimate move, the ability that brings fear to carry roles alike, the nuke that 45_64.png Veigar hid under his staff, his ultimate, the one and only Primordial_Burst.png Primordial Burst, that's also a mouthfull to say. This thing can do 400 damage in the early game easily if the target is below 33% health. That is a massive amount of damage, before the mage update I hit up to 2.7k damage with this thing on a stunned 101_64.png Xerath, he was shocked, lame puns aside this thing is nasty, executioner to its definition in the early and mid game, becomes an overkill nuke button later on. Take a point every chance you can.

Leveling up Primordial Burst provides: +75-150 Damage and -20 Cooldown.  AP Scaling is 75%-150%.                                                         Statistics:
                                  Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3

Cooldown:                  120         100           80
40% CDR:                      72           60           48
45% CDR?:                    66           55           44
Manacost:                                 100
Ability type:                       Targetted
Utility:               Deals bonus damage equal to
                            how injured the target is
AoE:                                         No

Pros:
Ludicrous base damage
Targetted
Powerful shut-downer

Cons:
It can screw you over a kill if you mis-combo and slip your finger
Long CD, well tbh same thing can be said to like 80% of ultimates
Many situations where it's better saved but must be used regardless
If it misses you're dead, or you just broke your keyboard in rage of that FUCKING 105_64.png FIZZ TROLL POLE

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Your primary start. Dorans ring gives you a lot of mana if you can last hit well and conserve for double stacks, and 2 hp pots if things go awry.
CHECK Description for detailed build order
Against an AD midlaner? (cloth and 4 potions)
These items are for hard matchups; they're designed for you to survive, nothing more. Rush them against heavy bursters/pokers, and seekers for Zed.

Core Items

Similar to the CDR build, but you get a tear the 1st time you go back immediately to later turn it into a seraphs. 45% CDR + 1400 AP w/o pen + superior defense
    This is your early-mid game.
THIS IS YOUR MAIN CORE: CDR. Nowadays Morello is really good and you benefit a lot more from CDR. My old builds of rushing Rabbadons simply isn't efficient anymore. 45% CDR + Resistances + defenses + 1200 AP w/ pen
MAXIMUM POWEEEEER! Seriously though this is cowboy levels of craziness 35% CDR + Lots of damage, no defense. Use with caution.
The classic AP trinity build. By far most burst damage, this can easily kill squishies caught out with a cage. 25% CDR + 1300 AP/w pen + resistances + defense
Grab an Iron Elixir once you're about full build

Situational Items

A few other honorable mentions. RoA and Seraph combined is really good. Mobi boots are for roaming. Lich bane has unique synergy with Veigar, he has a potential infinite amount of scaling ability power! It's pretty much a 2nd Q late game. Rylais is interesting for kiting potential, with a bit of beefiness to back it up. Alright vs bruisers.
We got haunting guise, a very very good item on Veigar if you're behind, please please please don't upgrade it into Liandry. CDR boots if you're running important summoners like tele+flash or ghost+flash; substitute the banshees for another raw damage item.
"My power is over nine thousand!" -FB Veigar 45_64.png

Starting items: If you want to dominate the early game, 1082.png Dark Seal can foreshadow that. It's a bit more sustain via pots but note your incredibly low hp at lvl 1. 1056.png Doran's ring is also reliable and safe, if you don't spam your Q you can regain a fair bit of mana.

Core: CDR. We go CDR because each of 45.png Veigar's abilities are much more powerful if there's more of them. More veigarbalefulstrike.png Qs = more AP from farming, more veigardarkmatter.png Ws = more likely at least 1 will hit, more veigareventhorizon.png Es = teamfights will be won and veigarr.png Rs so that you won't have any regrets; and finally from all this, more abilities = more AP from your veigarpassive.png passive. Imagine a game with 1400 AP, going to town and wrecking stuff. Now imagine that at 45% CDR. You want to start the build by rushing 3165.png Morello, it has all the stats you need and more. 3102.png Banshees or 3157.png Zhonya first depending if your enemy midlaner is AP or AD, but get the other after you finish one. 3089.png Rabaddons is next on the list because you should be at 700 AP. 3135.png Void staff last because that's when there will be the most MR.

Situational: 3117_32.png Mobi's? HAH! You wish! Says most of you, but roaming is a big deal for 45_64.png Veigar, sell it later for 3020_32.png Sorc's, 3040_32.png Seraph if you decided to go 3027_32.png RoA/Tear 3070_32.png.  3136_32.png Haunting guise is a very cost efficient item on 45_64.png Veigar, he benefits from MPen very well, and it gives him some AP and HP to go along with it. Detailed info about summoner spells and items are in their own section of the guide.

"How do we pick which build for what game?" A fine question. We look at the enemy lineup, and determine how many bruisers, tanks, and mobility abilities they have. CDR if lots of bruisers and dashes, your veigareventhorizon.png Event horizons will mess with them. The AP trinity is a good path if they have very squishy champs, your 3285.png Luden's echo + basic veigareventhorizon.pngveigardarkmatter.pngveigarbalefulstrike.png E W Q combo will kill them. The others are for the giggles.

Got some money and want to back early on in the game? Try to strike for 1200/1275 gold on your first back.
750fbf0b782f271b43e2099f37047a80.png 500-750 Gold, get 1001_32.png Boots, 1029_32.png Cloth if you're against a AD midlaner to upgrade into 3191_32.png Seeker later, and 1052_32.png Amp tome if you want a 3802.png lost chapter. If you backed because of too much poke, grab a 2031.png refillable potion to soothen the pain.
d37dfc78227a654e901c5cbc88bdfd64.png900-1300 Gold, finish your 3191_32.png Seeker if against an AD midlaner. A 3802.png Lost Chapter will fix a large portion of your mana problems, and 1001.png boots to help you roam and get around faster. Grab a 2055.png control ward. 1001.png3802.png2055.png2003.png This right here is the ideal build, lost chapter will offset your mana costs of spamming Q; boots will help you roam and get your veigarpassive.png passive stacking and some potions will heal you up from aforementioned roaming.
04ecb12c395ec8e32215c159e6e8c272.png1300-1800 Gold, 3802.png Lost Chapter + 3108.png Fiendish Codex as well as boots if possible will round out your early game.

VS

Aatrox

Medium
266_64.png A demon? Do you know how to evil? Medium-sometimes hard. His aatroxpassive.png passive is pretty much 34_64.png Anivia's but it doesn't instantly heal back up to full, so do pay attention to his RESOURCE BAR (where the mana and fury and energy below their actual HEALTH bar) if it's red, he has the revive ready, if it's grey he doesn't have it, so don't be afraid to drop him. A 3165_32.png Morello is really good against him, so get it instead of 3174_32.png Athene's. If he dives hard on to you, drop a veigareventhorizon.png stun and run like hell, he can't really keep up without his aatroxQ.png Q, and even then he will be stunned if he tries to use it in your veigareventhorizon.png cage. Sidestep his aatroxE.png E if he is about to use it.

These are the charts of the general stats. 0 is none, 1 is low, 2 is medium, 3 is high, and 4 is very high. A plus might appear infront of some of them, indicating that there is a little boost.  E.G: 75.png Tankiness: 3+, the + indicates he can get an increased benefit, in this case he gets extra tankiness from his godofdeath.png ultimate.

VS

Ahri

Medium
103_64.png Ah ahri, the nine tailed fox that spreads destruction in solo Q. Medium-Hard, depends on skill of Ahri and you. She will often push with her ahriorbofdeception.png Orb into your tower, if she tries to get agressive try to angle yourself between her and you with the minions so you don't get hit by her ahriseduce.png Charm. Chances are you will return more damage even if you're a low level and you need more veigarbalefulstrike.png Q stacks, smack her with it to make her pay. Mid to late is where it all changes, you landed your veigareventhorizon.png stun? Great, she's dead. She lands her ahriseduce.png Charm and she's not stunned? You're dead, careful of her ahritumble.png ult and try to kill her once you hit 6. She often roams, so call missing. 3020_32.png Boots help.

NOTE: Drop your entire burst if you are cert¿in that you are going to get  charmed, on 103.png Ahri, because the charm will IMMEDIATELY stop if she dies.

Akali

Hard
84_64.png ''Cute mask, your uh.. mom sew that?'' Stay classy 157.png Yasuo. Medium-Hard. Her rework makes her extremely dangerous because now she has hard CC, absurd damage and even an ultimate that makes her untargetable + blink RIGHT OUT OF YOUR veigareventhorizon.png E! Early game you shouldn't worry at all, she doesn't get invisibility until she hits level 6. But when that time comes at 5 minutes, 2055.png pink wards are your only chance of survival. If you all the sudden start feeling some evelynnw.png flirty emotions for no reason, and a gigantic heart appears above you, there are several steps to take to maximize the survival chance:
1) Check to see if there are any nearby teammates, if yes, spam the assist ping like mad
2) If there are no teammates, are you in the lane? Look to see if your minions are coming and try to use them as shields to block the evelynnw.png charm.
3) Walk in one direction and the millisecond the evelynnw.png charm is ready, a small arrow will point from 45.png Veigar''s feet towards 28.png Eve's direction, as such turn 90 degrees and side step a potential evelynnq.png Q.
4) If you do see that little arrow, drop a veigareventhorizon.png cage in that direction and close enough as such that one of the walls will be touching you. If you get evelynnw.png CC'd, you should survive because 28.png Eve will jump onto you and get stunned, then you promptly annihilate her. Do this once or twice and then start holding on to it because the player will take notice that you instantly veigareventhorizon.png E when you get charmed and will hesitate.
5) If you're in the jungle, run to a narrow path and look to see the arrow's direction, then cover your footprints by closing off a section of the jungle with an veigareventhorizon.png E, giving you a pursuit breaker. But do note that you have to run to a turret or your teammates because she will be chasing you!

Jax

Medium
24_64.png The one out of two grandmasters in the League. Easy-Medium. This guys late game is pretty damn nasty, pretty sure it's nastier than yours so try to end the game as fast as you can. A stun is all you need, and he has a massive problem to deal with, however watch out for 3111_32.png Merc's. Usually, 30 AP is the max he's going to get (from 3078_32.png Trinity force) so you're not going to do a lot of damage, but he is really squishy before the first 2 core items on him. After he jaxleapstrike.png leaps, that's his most vulnerable point so veigareventhorizon.png stun and strike hard!

Jhin

Medium
202.png AND HIS NAME IS JHIN CENA! Easy-Medium. He has no mobility, aside being a bit fast on his feet; easy to veigareventhorizon.png stun him up. He has extremely low attack speed, so you should be able to kill him even if he gets the jump on you due to reloading. Stay away from low health minions, he can use his jhinQ.png Grenade to get easy last hits and then wreck your health. His jhinE.png traps can be triggered, but you can easily walk out. Just be careful of his jhinW.png W. Once he jhinR.png ults, you can drop a veigardarkmatter.png Dark matter or a veigareventhorizon.png stun on him and he will just pop like a balloon. However, if he ults from a range then you're pretty much boned if you're half health. Try your best to juke, but if a single shot hits you there's little way for you to dodge the next bullets, 4.png flashing the last bullet will be key to surviving.

Medium
429_64.png Did anybody tell you that you're a rabbit? Easy-Medium. I swear it just isn't possible to veigareventhorizon.png stun her because of her damn kalistapassive.png passive, but if she has nothing to attack, she's very squishy as she has 325 speed, and no escapes besides the kalistapassive.png passive. Killing her in teamfights is No.1 Priority, and your 77_64.png Udyr's and 75_64.png Nasus' can thank you and deal with YOUR problems. Don't get too close to her, otherwise she will karmaspiritbond.png snare you if you can't get away. veigareventhorizon.png Stunning her or any teammate is one pain in the ass, because she can just do her best sonic impression and get the hell out of the stun area before it becomes active. Pay attention to that misty little circle, it signals that he's in the wall. Throwing a veigareventhorizon.png stun onto him while he's in a wall will instantly knock him to the side, save your abilities until then; and promptly execute him. Be very careful when he dives you, veigareventhorizon.png stun him and run like you've seen 79.png Gragas in a bikini. When you do cage him, juke his kaynw.png W before you deal with him, otherwise he will just kaynr.png R you and kill you. Is it on one of your jungle camps? 3340.png Ward it, and wait for ambush if you see them coming. Her kindredR.png ult is either a huge, or small problem. 75_64.png A ticking time bomb that needs Scooby Doo snacks. Medium. There is no doubt the doge is scary as hell itself, tons of damage and tankiness, not to mention he is as tall as the pyramids! We're assuming he's going jungle (once in a blue moon) so he MUST get 1409.png Juggernaut, that's a crap ton of HP, and then he can go all MR and screw your entire team over. Ask your jungler to counterjungle him, and join him in the doge chase, this can put him really behind. As the game progresses, get a 3102_32.png Banshee to deny his wither.png wither, one important thing is that his spiritfire.png E CANNOT break the shield, so he must waste his wither.png wither to break it. If you get wither.png withered only gods can help you now, as your veigareventhorizon.png stun probably won't be enough to set you free. Go as 5 and be sure to include him in the ''To stun'' chart.

If you do get hit by a javelintoss.png spear, prepare for a cat in your face and veigareventhorizon.png E on top of yourself, or in the path that she has to jump through to get you. 3102_32.png Banshee helps a lot in dealing with her javelintoss.png spears, but don't count on it too much as she can get another javelintoss.png spear in. 3020_32.png Boots help.
All the sudden, with the buff that made her passive trigger on monsters, she became a POWERFUL jungler, often times she ganks my lane only to chunk half of my health and then aspectofthecougar.png pounce on me and murder me. But most of the time, she buys 3158_32.png Ionian boots, which means your 2.5 second stun will be at full effect, and she is very squishy if she doesn't use her rivenfeint.png shield or lifesteal. He has rather short range, and has no reliable way to get our of your veigareventhorizon.png cage, as such it shouldn't be difficult killing him. Do note that if he has ryzer.png ult, and you veigareventhorizon.png cage him instead of stunning, try to land your combo. It will kill him regardless of how far away he goes. If 13.png Ryze ryzer.png ults into your team, just drop an veigareventhorizon.png event horizon on the circle and you can avoid a nasty engage. If you try to press your veigarr.png ''Ripoff from Karthus's meme'' button, she can easily sivire.png block it, and then kill you, however your veigareventhorizon.png stun can detour or simply stun her, allowing for a easy 2nd veigarbalefulstrike.png Q and veigardarkmatter.png W to land, and if you have enough AP, should kill her even with MR. It can be hard to stun her too, she can pop sivire.png E and then walk out of the damn thing! But it will make her vulnerable to your entire team, and your veigarr.pngveigarbalefulstrike.png R+Q combo. Not to mention, she can use her sivirr.png ultimate to reposition around the stun and find a choke point where you didn't close off and go through it, and she can simply run out of the stun range, although she needs to burn her ultimate and it's kinda risky to do.

Medium. 18.png Trist can be a real annoyance, really tristanapassive.png long range and massive peel potential, catching her on your own won't be a easy job but if you do land a stun it's over for her. 18.png Tristana's tristanaw.png W is one of the best escapes because a lot of CC doesn't stop her, except 45.png Veigar's veigareventhorizon.png E. Trundle

Medium
48_64.png He gonna give ya a beatdown! Medium. Really rare, don't underestimate his power though, as he can duel anyone easily with just a few items. He can be ungodly tanky trundlepain.png depending on how godlike YOUR tank is, so if you have a bruiser comp-some squishies you should fair better, beware of a tankier jungle/toplaner like 36_64.png Mundo, 111_64.png Naut and maybe even 154_64.png Zac. He is easily kitable, and has no gapclosers, so him ganking you wont really work that well, unless he lands a good trundlecircle.png pillar.

If you get tryndamerew.png slowed from him you're going to be in trouble, it's super powerful ALTHOUGH you can deal with it with good prediction and timing if you FACE him when he uses it, so you don't get called a chicken. Your veigareventhorizon.png stun is his greatest nightmare, if of course he doesn't spin away in time or simply is too damn tanky to care, be sure to pack a heavy HEAVY CC comp on your side to deal with him, if he splitpushes your best bet is to start a fight and simply win the game 5v4, don't ignore him too much or you will be hurt more.

Twitch

Medium
29_64.png What's that smell?! Easy-Medium. I do enjoy a good game of Twitch here and there, personally my 2nd favorite ADC to play with. If he gets the time to see you coming or well, has wards, can completely dodge your attempted gank, and if he has some serious BM, simply do the twitchhideinshadows.png stealth+recall trick to laugh at your face while you try to predict where he is going. In teamfights, get him! He has some serious range however, trying to reach to his face without getting blown to smithereens by him is even harder, if he knows how to attack-move, not to mention he can simply twitchhideinshadows.png stealth before the fight begins, and only to reappear to murder your face before you can do much, and then there goes the entire team.

Later on veigareventhorizon.png stunning him can be devastating if he doesn't have 3111.png mercs for whatever reason. Stick with your carry later on in the game and stun him and destroy him.

Anyways, in order to trade with him you should pay attention to the graves. Be sure to keep moving so he doesn't yorickravenous.png E you easily. If his ghouls are up, harvest those suckers for AP! 40% CDR is highly recommended against him. 12.png Teleport is also great! If he tries to bootleg yorickdecayed.png Event Horizon you, just put your veigareventhorizon.png own on top of yourself! Should 83.png Yorick yorickravenous.png E, the ghouls will be stopped by the wall and 83.png Yorick will stay out; resulting in a disengage. Be sure to hit him on the edge otherwise he will get away, and make sure to use your veigarr.png ult after he reappears from his ult. He should be just as easy to kill as most mid laners. If he runs after you veigareventhorizon.png stun him, kill him, if he tries to move towards you BRACE FOR HIS zedr.png ULT, and ult after he reappears. Rush a 3191_32.png Seekers armguard.

TIP: If he ults you, and you have 3157_32.png Zhonya, use it before he reappears, you will remove the death mark buff, make it go on CD, AND you may be able to bait his Q and E because he might just want to kill you as quickly as possible and he probably won't react in time.

His ziggsw.png escape is a bit awkward, try to drop a veigareventhorizon.png stun or veigardarkmatter.png W on it. Avoid his bombs and get early boots. Getting a  3157_32.png Zhonya will allow you to dodge his ziggsr.png nuke, don't rush it unless you're against a top 238_64.png Zed. Stay away from anything that has a zileanq.png bomb on it, and it goes for double if you don't want to get stunned by it. Early game, if he's super agressive it's going to be bad for you, but eventually you can beat him hard since he's super squishy, even if he builds a 3027_32.png RoA! Note when he has his chronoshift.png ultimate, as it can deny your burst on anyone, but simply kill him if he ults someone else or is stunned by your cage.
