Summoner Spells Back to Top

Welcome and LETTUCE begin!
Whether you're interested in learning how to play Vel'koz or mastering this champion, you've found the hidden garden. Vel'koz is a diverse champion that can be played offensive or defensively. He provides an immense amount of damage that will punish enemy teams who ignore him. In addition, he has multiple CC abilities for chasing and peeling situations. This guide is intended for support roles, but the tips/advices can be extrapolized into other roles.

4.png
Flash - All champions need this and especially Vel'koz since he is immobile and this grants his one get out of jail free card.

3.png
Exhaust - Likewise with most support champions, exhaust is the preferred summoner skill to have. You can use this offensively and defensively. Vel'koz's long range prevents ignite from being used effectively and can compensate for the additional damage caused by ignite. In addition, exhaust can prevent assassins from "one-shotting" you and your teammates. Timing is KEY** in preventing assassin damage.

Masteries Back to Top

ALL DAT DAMGE - gogo!

You could also build your masteries as 0-18-12 to make Vel'koz a little more tankier and less squishy - this is a safer route if you do not like to play super aggressive/offensive.

velkozQ.png
Vel'Koz Passive is crucial to his damage and not many people realize the greatness of this abililty. Any champions hit with a basic ability will apply a stack of the passive. When 3 stacks are applied to enemy champions, they will receive true damage based off 40% of Vel'koz's AP. This passive can be rewarding for additional damage when landing abilities on enemy champions.

velkozQ.png
Vel'koz Q is a great spam/poke ability to annoy enemy champions or last hit creeps when your ADC IS NOT AVAILABLE. This is the longest ranged ability along with fastest projectile speed and grants a slowed movement effect (70% which decays over 1-2 seconds) on enemy targets. The missile will split perpendicular into two 2 additional missiles when reactivated by pressing Q, upon hitting an enemy target or reachin its maximum distance. This projectile follows the form or mold of a capital letter"T" starting from the bottom and splitting at the top. You can land the initial missile or attempt trick skillshots by angling the initial missile with intent to landing with the perpendicular missiles.

Bonus - Ability can refund 50% of its mana cost per target killed by the spell, which makes last hitting with this ability effective and rewarding. This ability should be your first granted ability to annoy enemy champions early in the laning phase. Be sure you start your lane with SpellThieve's Edge to earn additional gold. It's got a short cool-down and can be REALLY annoying.

velkozW.png
Vel'koz W is the primary damage that is wonderful for harassing, waveclearing and baiting. I will tell you more details regarding the bait later in this section. This spell is a linear skill shot that does an initial damage to enemy targets and leaves a trail and detonates after .25 seconds for additional damage. The great part about this skill is having two different attack abilities in one as well as two separate charges which can be used sequentially.

Bonus - This projectile movement speed is much slower than Q but does a ton more damage if the detonate proportion is landed. Since this spell causes an initial damage as well as extra damage from the detonation, you can time and force an ADC's dodge/escape (non-summoner/flash) to be used. The initial damage from this ability will proc SpellThieve's Edge if landed.

velkozE.png
Vel'koz E is an AOE utility skillshot ability that will stun/knockup enemy targets for 1-2 seconds. Use this spell defensively unless you can follow-up on pre-CC'd targets. This can force champions to flash if used correctly.

Bonus - This ability takes .5 seconds to detonate, but landing this ability is EXTREMELY important. If landed, you can do immense amounts of damage, buy time for your team to run-away, and possibly change the game into your teams favor. Also, if you land the E, be sure you line-up with W to land detonation combo (EW). This will likely proc THUNDALORDZ if you follow-up with combos correctly.

velkozR.png
Vel'koz R is the ultimate that does the most damage and burns everything to the ground. A large laser beam is shot in a unidirectional location that covers an extensive long area.

Bonus - This ability is extremely important for team fights and can definitely turn the fight upside down. Position is KEY for this ability, because you can get interrupted. Try to stay in the back and keep track of champions that have CC. This spell cannot be Windwall blocked by Yasuo and can damage multiple enemies even if lined up.

**Abilities order varies**
I don't max W or Q first, but I like to equally diversify both W and Q (if speaking in terms of maxing, it would be W). The benefit of having W is for the damage output being much greater and can damage multiple targets whereas the Q is strictly single target spells and is based on first hit*. Creeps will be in the way* Depending on your enemy teams composition and specifically bot-lane matchup, you may benefit more from one as pose to the other.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Situational Items

The most important item is starting with SpellThieve's Edge so you can collect additional gold and have mana regen for poke/harass. This item can be upgraded to Frost Queen which has an ability to send two wraiths/ghosts to search for nearby enemies. I highly recommend this item because it grants an additional vision for enemy champions in case you should not "bush check". Also this is great for helping chase or peel (running away) situations.

OR - you can build the combo SpellThieve's+Sighstone items*

You MUST purchase a SightStone for your team so you can provide your team with vision and information of where enemy champions are located.

Iron Locket of Solari/Aegis should only be needed when enemy team has a lot of AP, however, I generally buy this because I like the shield for my teammates. Vel'koz does a lot of damage as is.

After you have the two or three of the items mentioned above, you could build whatever item you would like to increase your damage output. Generally, I purchase Liandry's for the magic penetration then Rylais for additional damage and extra health. The health increase will make you tankier in team fights and compensates well for more dmg - perfect items for Vel'koz.

Depending on the enemy teams composition, I would suggest starting with Doran's ring because extra health may be more beneficial. This item allows you to be more aggressive while granting sustainability during the lane exchanges with enemy team. SpellThieve's item is great because of the active spell (ghosts) that can slow down enemies and give additional gold, but if you really think about the greater scheme of things - Frost Queen's is pretty expensive to get to and slows you down from purchasing other important items such as Sighstone, Locket, Liandry and other AP dmg. Your role as a support is to do as much damage as possible and it's quite the contrary as a "support", but this is what wins team fights.

**I think the mastery in additional gold is sufficient so that's why I think Doran's Ring is not a bad first item.

VS

Alistar

Easy

Alistar will generally have to initiate on you or your ADC for fights. If he does, make sure you focus the ADC by landing E and other abilities. Otherwise continue to poke.

During mid and late game, I would not waste EW combo on Alistar unless he engages and other fighter/bruiser champs are also committed to the play.

VS

Annie

Medium

Annie is not likely a support, but if she does she'll have a longer auto range attack than you. Focus on harassing with your Q and only attacking when she doesn't have a stun ready.

Mid and late game you must locate where Annie is and take her out before she combo stuns you and your team. She would be similar to Fiddles, if you can locate where she is, she will not be an issue.

VS

Ashe

Easy
ADC Champion with no secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). This should give you an edge on landing any of your abilities.

She is a fairly easy champion to matchup against. Play aggressive by trying to land EW combo after she's used her asheW.pngvolley ability.

Careful of level 6 when she has ultimate and she can engage on you. Vel'koz is extremely immobile and prone to engagements. If you have flash, I would suggest using it to dodge Ashe engage 100%.

VS

Bard

Medium

Bard is a difficult matchup since he is able to heal and stun. Dodging his Q bardQ.png ability is extremely important. You will need to continually poke with Q velkozQ.png and if he's in the vacinity - try to land EW velkozE.pngvelkozW.pngcombo.

Be aware of the jungler's location as well as Bard's position (near any walls) in which he may try to use bardE.png to setup a jungle gank or an easy escape from your combo damage. DO NOT follow Bard unless you are aware of where enemy champions are located and their summoner spells (teleport)

Mid or late game Bard's will try to ulti you when you're alone or stop your ultimate during the cast. Be sure you stay with team or at a distance and aware of his ulti coming in.

VS

Blitzcrank

Hard

Blitzcrank poses as an issue early game and will bully you any chance he gets. You will need to be confident in dodging his hooks or you'll be dead. Harass whenever you have the chance too, and dodge!

If you can dodge his hooks successfully, I recommend taking advantage of this moment and being as aggressive as possible whether targeting Blitz or the ADC (but keep in mind the jungler may be nearby or top lane may have teleport).

Another tip: You can buy Doran's Ring as first item- this will make the early laning phase against Blitz an easier matchup because you'll be able to sustain more damage while doing more dmg to their ADC or blitz. It will not matter whether he pulls you in or not, because you'll be able to focus all your damage on the enemy while your ADC also contributes.

If you can survive to late game, your chances of winning are significantly higher which depends on both team compositions.

VS

Brand

Medium

Brand is a rare support champion, but it does occur. His abilities have about the same distance range as Vel'koz and may be further. You will need to dodge his Q brandblaze.png which can stun if landed. Otherwise continue to poke and harass.

Try to stay separated distance with your allies when Brand is level 6

Mid and late game will require good positioning of yourself. He is generally squishy and can die quickly if engaged on.

VS

Braum

Easy

Braum is a defensive support champion and will only be able to poke you at minimal lengths with his Q braumQ.png. Abuse your long-range and harass as much as possible.

Mid or late game Braum will likely be staying alongside his ADC/Mid. You will need to ignore braum and focus on CC'ing enemy bruiser/fighters that jump on your ADC/Mid. Try to ensure that Braum has already used his ultimate before yours, then fire away!

VS

Caitlyn

Medium
ADC Champion with secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). Try to use your W to bait the ADC's secondary escape and then save E for when enemy is on CD.

Caitlyn has a longer range attack than most ADC's and will try to auto you whenever possible. Try to poke with Q velkozQ.png and harass. If she's in the vacinity to land combo - DO IT.

Mid or late game Caitlyns' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Corki

Medium
ADC Champion with secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). Try to use your W to bait the ADC's secondary escape and then save E for when enemy is on CD.

Corki does not have any abilities far enough to hurt you until he becomes level 6. Keep that distance and harass/poke as much as possible.

Mid or late game Corki' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Draven

Easy
ADC Champion with no secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). This should give you an edge on landing any of your abilities.

Dravens' will usually run toward you for attacks, so be prepared to predict his movements and landing EWvelkozE.pngvelkozW.png combo.

Mid or late game Dravens' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Ezreal

Medium
ADC Champion with secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). Try to use your W to bait the ADC's secondary escape and then save E for when enemy is on CD.

Ezreal will constantly poke you ezrealmysticshot.pngezrealessenceflux.png, so try to dodge his attacks and counter with your own harass.

Mid or late game Ezreals' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

Fiddlesticks is a pretty laid back support and is difficulty to play. You should save your EvelkozE.png for when fiddle drains youdrain.png. Stay at a distance from your ADC so thefiddlesticksdarkwind.png crows damage is minimal. Continue to harass and poke.

Mid or late game Fiddle is annoying, but if you locate where he is and keep track of his movements - he will be useless (LITERALLY).

VS

Fizz

Medium

This champion matchup is difficult, but you must be patient and confident.

Fizz will generally be jungler or mid. If you ward your areas well enough, you should be able to stop him from ganking.

With a fresh set of abilities and no cool downs you should be able to stop a fizz. If the Fizz is experienced, he will initiate after you've used QvelkozQ.png. So whether you have this ability ready or not, the Q ability can prevent a successful gank from Fizz.

In worst case scenarios when Fizz has already closed the gap to you or your teammates, you'll need to land the EvelkozE.png after he's used his Efizzjump.png. Try to place the AOE directly on you or your team depending on where Fizz will use Qfizzpiercingstrike.png to jump on.

VS

Graves

Medium
ADC Champion with secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). Try to use your W to bait the ADC's secondary escape and then save E for when enemy is on CD.

Graves' does a decent amount of damage and will fight you head on. Try to keep your distance and poke.

Mid or late game Graves'' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Janna

Easy

Janna is a simply matchup and is actually beneficial to you and your team.

Try to make Janna waste her shields eyeofthestorm.png and then poke/harass with your abilities. Her ultimate is also not really helpful if you are able to use a full cast of your laser velkozR.pngbeam.

Mid or late game Jannas' will likely be in the backline supporting their ADC/MID. Focus on what's in front and CCing any fighters/bruisers who engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Jhin

Easy
ADC Champion with no secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). This should give you an edge on landing any of your abilities.

Jhin is relatively easy, but if combined with Alistar/Leona/Blitzcrank or any other stun-like champion, you're in trouble. Use your abilities to harass and stay at a distance from your ally creeps and teammates for Jhin's bombs. jhinQ.png

Mid or late game Jhins' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Jinx

Easy

Jinx is an easy matchup, but she can poke you with her change of auto attack jinxQ.pngand W jinxW.png. You need to keep the distance and abuse the long-range attack abilities.

ADC Champion with no secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). This should give you an edge on landing any of your abilities.

VS

Kalista

Hard

Kalista poses as a difficult champion to land any abilities since she's able to dodge very frequently.

Becareful at level 6 as she will try to initiate with her ultimate on you with an ally.

ADC Champion with secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). Try to use your W to bait the ADC's secondary escape and then save E for when enemy is on CD.

Try to poke/harass whenever possible but I would not fully engage when passed river otherwise you will be susceptible to jungle ganks and cannot get away quick enough.

Mid or late game Kalista' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Karma

Medium

Karma is quite difficult to matchup against since all her abilities are very useful. She's got shields karmasoulshield.png, pokes karmaheavenlywave.png, and CCkarmaspiritbond.png.

You will need to utilize your distance advantage and continue harassing/poking.

Mid and late game will vary, but you likely will not be able to focus on Karma. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Kog'Maw

Easy

Kog'maw is an easy matchup and you can bully him extremely well. Continue to poke and harass with your abilities.

ADC Champion with no secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). This should give you an edge on landing any of your abilities.

Mid or late game Kog'maws' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Leona

Hard

You're pretty much screwed. Be scared - be VERY scared. You will not win against this matchup under any circumstances because Leona is a HARD counter against Vel'koz and there's just nothing you can do. Sorry.

VS

Lucian

Medium

Lucian will try to harass you with his Q lucianQ.png which needs to be close to ally creeps or lucianW.png. You will need to just harass/poke from distance

ADC Champion with secondary escape (extra dodge/jump). Try to use your W to bait the ADC's secondary escape and then save E for when enemy is on CD.

Mid or late game Lucians' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Lulu

Medium

Lulu is a fairly common support, but not often picked lately. Her shield lulue.png is pretty good, but Vel'koz poke can outdamage this. Continue to harass and poke. Becareful of her ulti at 6 and try not to use your frickin laser beamvelkozR.png until she has used herslulur.png.

Mid or late game Lulus' will be in the backline casting spells. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Lux

Medium

Lux is not as common for support roles, but can happen. You will need to dodge the Q luxlightbinding.png otherwise you will likely die. Focus on harassing with your abilities.

Mid or late game Luxs' will be in the backline firing away spells. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Morgana

Medium

Morgana is an annoying matchup since her blackshield.png can stop spell abilities. Try to bait her shield and then land EW velkozE.pngvelkozW.png combo. Also try to dodge her Qdarkbindingmissile.png or you'll suffer significant damage. Continue with harassing and poking!

Mid or late game Morganas' will be in backline and jump into the fight during the middle. They hardly initiate, but if they do try to keep your distance.

VS

Nami

Medium

Nami supports are also annoying, but they are difficult champs to play. Only good nami's will land their Q namiQ.png, but this ability has a long detonation time and can be dodged fairly easily. Focus on harassing and poking!

Mid and late game Namis' will be in backline supporting their MID/ADC. Try to use your frickin laser beamvelkozR.png after she has used hers namiR.png.

VS

Nautilus

Medium

Nautilus will try to land his Q nautilusanchordrag.png on you or your ADC. If he lands this ability on you or your ADC, focus on their ADC. If you're able to land your EW combo, you'll be able to outdamage them and possibly kill their ADC before you or your ADC die.

Mid and late game Nautilus' will try to engage but you must keep your distance and poke.
His ultimatenautilusgrandline.png will be focused on you if you're in range, so stay back and FIRE DA BEAMvelkozR.png

VS

Quinn

Medium

Quinns are troublesome and scary, but early game you should be fine. Focus on poking and harassing as much as possible.

Mid and late game Quinns' will destroy you, so stay grouped with team. They will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Rakan

Medium

Start harassing Rrakan and the ADC with velkozq.png but also try to dodge his rakanq.png as he will be able to heal himself and ADC which negates your damage.

Rakan's rakanw.png is relatively short in distance and takes casting time before expelling, so recognize when this occurs and try to dodge. Very likely, if you are hit by this, you will die and vice versa if you can land your velkoze.png.

Last tip is to try to use your velkozr.png after Rakan using his rakanw.pngor rakanr.png otherwise you're damage will be negated.

VS

Sivir

Easy

Sivir is a fairly easy matchup. Her Qspiralblade.png is somewhat slow moving missile and can be dodged, while her W ricochet.png can only be landed if you're nearby team allies. Try to bait her spellshield.png with your WvelkozW.png which can affect or trigger the spellblock. If so, then try to land your EW velkozE.pngvelkozW.png combo.

Mid or late game Sivirs' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Sona

Medium

Sona is a pretty difficult matchup and must be played correctly. Her heals sonaariaofperseverance.png will counter the damage you've caused so it may be best to save your mana and wait until lvl 3 to EW velkozE.pngvelkozW.png combo her when she tries to harass you with Q sonahymnofvalor.png

Mid and late game Sona's will be in the backline healing. You'll generally have the upper hand in the late game, because she's not really useful except with her ultimate. If your team engages on her, I would sacrifice your laser beam and destroy her velkozR.png. She's fairly weak and if caught off guard, you take advantage of it!

VS

Soraka

Medium

Soraka is an extremely annoying matchup. She will stay in the back and  astralblessing.pngheal and occasionally harass with her  Q starcall.png or infuse.png. Both spells can be dodged fairly easily since the spells take some time to detonate. Continue with your poke and harass, but if Soraka is close enough for you to EW velkozE.pngvelkozW.png combo, go for her and LAND IT!

Mid and late game she will also be a problem since her heals will keep champions up. If the opportunity arises to kill her instantly that requires your frickin laser beamvelkozR.png, DO IT! Also, if your MID or someone on your team hasn't purchased a "Grevious wound" item, then I would suggest you buying this as a 3rd item to counter Soraka heals.

VS

Tahm Kench

Medium

Tahm Kench is a rather annoying support as well. His Q tahmkenchQ.png does decent damage and slows movement speed. Be aware of his W tahmkenchW.png which can save his ADC from any trouble or damage being done to him. You will need to poke constantly and harass!

Mid and late game Tahm Kenchs' do not usually play front-line but if they do and are targeting your ADC/MID, be sure you CC and DESTROY them - especially with the fricken laser beam velkozR.png.

VS

Taliyah

Medium

Taliyah support is not really common, but you will see her every now and then. Be sure you start lane with QvelkozQ.png and continually poke. In addition, you'll need to be strafing to throw off Taliyah's taliyahQ.png consecutive shot ability, but keep a distance and don't EVER let her land a good WtaliyahW.png or you'll be dead.

Mid/Late Game: You'll need to be grouped with teammates, and if not, inform your team of where Taliyah is, because her RtaliyahR.png is sort of global ability and can assassinate you or your team members. In late game skirmishes, attack what's in front and use ulti if you can eliminate an enemy quick enough.

VS

Taric

Medium

Taric is not a bad matchup. His E dazzle.png is a skillshot and fairly easy to dodge because it takes about a second to cast/detonate. If you dodge this, you are free to perform any additional attacks and harass. You should have the upper edge early in the game, but late game will be not so good for you and your team.

Mid and late game Taric is a bit annoying because of the invulnerable state he can provide to his allied champions. Try to use your laser beam velkozR.pngafter his tarichammersmash.png ulti has been used. If Taric is in the front line, try to ignore him and focus on ADC/MID, otherwise CC for your allies.

VS

Thresh

Medium

Thresh is a mediocre matchup. If he lands his Q threshQ.png you could be in trouble and he'll likely jump to you and E threshE.png afterwards. If this does occur, focus on the ADC and you should be able to burn him down before you or your teammate dies.

Remember his Q has a long wind-up so you should be able to dodge fairly easily.

Mid and late game Threshs' will stay in the back with their MID/ADC and protect them. All you can do is focus what's in front and use your fricken laser beam velkozR.png if the carries are low. And make sure you land E velkozE.pngfor fighter/bruisers on your squishies.

VS

Twitch

Easy

Twitch is an easy matchup. His secondary escape is Q twitchQ.png where he goes stealth for a few seconds. If you can catch him with E velkozE.png, this will mess up his get-away and could time out his stealth. Otherwise, if you really hate the rat, then buy a pink ward and drop it before he runs away. You'll need to continually dodge his W twitchW.png which does a decent amount of damage when stacked. Do your best to harass and poke. You should be able to land your EW velkozE.pngvelkozW.png combo.

Mid and late game Twitchs' will be annoying and can wreck havoc. Try to spot him out and take him out early. The hardest part is they generally stay in the backline to auto attack. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Varus

Easy

Varus is an easy matchup because he does not have a secondary escape and his movement speed is fairly slow. Becareful of his Q varusq.pngwhich does a good deal of damage. Also, do not be around when he is level 6 and you're by yourself.

I'd like to commit on EW velkozE.pngvelkozW.png combo after he has shot his E varuse.png volley for slow. This way, you can continue forward in chasing if the opportunity is presented well (no junglers around and support is already running for his own life!)

Mid or late game Varus' will be in the backline firing away autos. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Vayne

Easy

Vayne is an easy matchup due to her inability to fight long-distances. She is close ranged and will suffer immense amounts of damage from Vel'koz before getting too close. The key is to not use all your abilities at once and bait her to use her Q vaynetumble.png. However at level 6, she will gain slight invisibility so be cautious of this. If you can land EW velkozE.pngvelkozW.png combo and she will be dead.

Mid and late game Vayne is no longer scary as she used to be considering the amount of close range needed for her to be effective. Focus on what's in front and if you have the opportunity to finish an ADC/MID, then use your ulti if feasible. Also be sure you save your E for CCing enemy bruisers/fighters that engage on your ADC/MID.

VS

Zilean

Easy

Zilean is not a common support champion, but can be played. Becareful of his Q timebomb.pngwhich can cause a stunned effect if landed twice. After you have successfully dodge the first bomb - you can be aggressive and poke poke poke. Otherwise, keep that distance and continue QQQQQ

Mid and late game Zilean is not an issue as he'll be in the back line supporting and you'll be able to LASER BEAMMMM velkozR.png

VS

Zyra

Medium

Zyra is a tricky support matchup. If you can dodge his E zyraE.png, then you should have an advantage. Although, his Q zyraQ.png with thunderlord procs damage will add up and hurt. Try to use your distance to the best advantage and poke. I would only play aggressive after she's used her E zyraE.png.

Mid and late game Zyras' will usually be in the backline supporting. If they engage, its a mistake and they'll be punished - as long as you're far enough away to dodge the ulti zyraR.png. Position yourself and FIRE AWAY velkozR.png
