Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png

Flash is good almost on every champ, and Vladimir is no exception. It gives him a gap closer and an escape along with being the only way for him to traverse walls. Take this ALWAYS for mid.

Note: you can use during your vladimirsanguinepool.png Or while charging your vladimire.png.

14.png

Increases DPS and strengthens trades while in lane. It also helps a ton if they have sustain champs like 36.png or 50.png on their team. Great for All-in attempts.

6.png

I rarely take ghost on Vlad mid because Ignite adds more dueling potential. Although, if you believe that you don't need the extra dueling potential take ghost for sure. It gives Vlad the mobility in teamfights that will essentially give him more Damage overall.

Note: you can use during your vladimirsanguinepool.png.

12.png

I would recommend you take Teleport on Vladimir if you are planning to farm a lot. You will be lacking a combat spell so just be weary of that if they take14.png. Generally take if you think the opposing laner will have TP.

Masteries Back to Top

Keystone:

Stormraider's Surge is probably the best for Vladimir after the update. Mobility is the name of the game for Vladimir to deal optimal damage. It is easy to proc because you usually get it to proc buy a 3rd vladimirtransfusion.png and vladimirtidesofblood.png. Also champions that have many slows really beat up Vlad in fights but with Stormraider's you get reduced slows. Deathfire Touch in the ferocity section is good for Vladimir if you want more sustained damage and helps Vladimir keep up his consistent DPS. Thunderlords decree is good for Vlad if you want some more early game pressure but is otherwise not as useful overall compared Stormaider's Surge.

The 18 points you spend can have some varying options. I prefer the 18 in cunning for a few reasons
Tier 1: Savagery is very good for last hitting on Vlad.
Tier 2: Assassin is great for early game and solo lane pressure.
Tier 3: Merciless buffs your ult damage for executing.
Tier 4: Dangerous Game is my favorite mastery that lets me take riskier plays and be able to rebound if successful.
Tier 5: Intelligence is very important on Vlad to allow you to use your vladimirq.png and vladimirsanguinepool.png more often in fights.

12 in Ferocity I believe is good on Vladimir for a few reasons:
Tier 1: Sorcery just strickly adds damage on all Vlads skills
Tier 2: Feast helps keep you healthy early on so you can scale
Tier 3: Natural Talent makes cs easier with the AD as well as helps you scale hard to late
Tier 4: I take Double edge sword for the upfront damage buff. Any of these work well on Vlad

Passive

- Crimson Pact

vladimirpassive.png

Vladimir gains (2.5bonus health) bonus ability power and (140% AP) bonus health. These bonuses do not stack with themselves.

This is a very unique passive that really empowers a lot of Vladimir’s kit and is the reason he is sometimes called the “Tank Mage”. By purchasing Health items you get more damage and by purchasing more damage items you get health. However, these two stats do not compliment Vladimir the same. Buying Ability Power is always the better than buying Health for mid lane Vlad. If you bought mainly Health on Vladimir you will lack considerable damage for your team unlike Ability Power where you lose just some tankyness. This passive becomes extremely strong when you buy both stats at once in items like
3116.pngand 3136.png. When you buy items like these you get a strong power spike due to the extra tankyness and damage your passive gives you compared to all the other champions in League. This alone can swing match-ups

Q

-Transfusion

RANGE: 600

COOLDOWN: 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5

vladimirq.png

ACTIVE: Vladimir drains the lifeforce of the target enemy, dealing magic damage and healing himself.

§  MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 100 / 120 / 140 / 160 (+ 60% AP)

§  HEAL: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 (+ 35% AP)

Each cast of Transfusion generates a stack of Bloodthirst over its cooldown, which is displayed in his secondary resource bar. At 2 stacks, Vladimir gains Crimson Rush for 2.5 seconds and 10% bonus movement speed for 0.5 seconds.

CRIMSON RUSH: Transfusion deals 85% increased damage and heals for an additional 30 - 200 (based on level) (+ 5% (+ 4% per 100 AP) missing health), reduced to 35% against minions.

§  EMPOWERED DAMAGE: 148 / 185 / 222 / 259 / 296 (+ 111% AP)

This is Vladimir's main skill for laning, harassment and core on his sustain. This skill is a single target medium range skill that deals instant damage and sends back a projectile that heals you. After you have used this ability 2 times your resource bar under your health bar will begin to fill to red. Once it hits red your Q will be back up, you will gain a short burst of movement speed and within 2.5 seconds as your bar drains your Q will deal double damage and heal for a large % of your Max health. This skill allows a good amount of easy early game harass with the empowered Q.

-Sanguine Pool

RANGE: 150

COST: 20% CURRENT HEALTH

COOLDOWN: 28 / 25 / 22 / 19 / 16

vladimirsanguinepool.png

ACTIVE: Vladimir sinks into a pool of blood, gaining 37.5bonus movement speed which decays exponentially over 1 second and becoming untargetable for 2 seconds.

Enemies who stand upon the pool are  slowed by 40% and dealt magic damage every half second, while Vladimir heals himself for 15% of the damage dealt.

MAGIC DAMAGE PER HALF-SECOND: 20 / 33.75 / 47.5 / 61.25 / 75 (+ 2.5bonus health)

This is an iconic Vladimir skill that you should always be aware of when playing as or against. When you this skill you will sink into the ground and become untargetable meaning all projectiles and skill shots will miss. However, Tethering abilities like Fiddlesticks’ Drain or DoT abilities like Malzahar’s Malefic Visions or (Ignite) will still work even if you are pooled as long as they hit you with the skill before you pooled. NEVER use this skill to engage, it cost 20% of your CURRENT Health so if you use it early you lose a lot of Health and you lose one of the best defensive spells in the game. When laning with this skill you generally want to save it for ganks, if a jungler ganks you and you are pushed up don’t be afraid to pool early if either opponent has hard CC to lock you down. Also, while pooled you can use your (Ghost) or (Flash) summoner spells for added survivability. On top of that this skill heals so if you get low in a team fight use your (W) to give yourself more health back. That alone can swing a whole teamfight.

E - Tides of Blood

RANGE: 600

COST: 8% MAXIMUM HEALTH

COOLDOWN: 13 / 11 / 9 / 7 / 5

vladimire.png

FIRST CAST: Vladimir charges for up to 1.5 seconds, slowing himself by 20% over the last 0.5 seconds. If Vladimir finishes charging or is interrupted, he automatically initiates the second cast.

SECOND CAST: Vladimir unleashes a nova of blood bolts, each of which collide with the first enemy they hit, dealing them magic damage that is increased the longer Tides of Blood was charged, up to the first second.

MINIMUM MAGIC DAMAGE: 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 (+ 2.5maximum health)(+ 35% AP)

If Tides of Blood was charged for at least 1 second, affected enemies are also slowed for 0.5 seconds.

§  SLOW: 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60%

Enemies can intercept multiple bolts, but can only be damaged once. Minions can each absorb up to 5 bolts, and damage nearby unaffected minions if hit.

This is a very important skill for Vladimir and is the second skill you should max always. When you use this skill it will charge spending your max health up to 10%, after it reaches full charge when you release it will shoot projectiles in all directions dealing damage and slowing all those hit. You don't have to charge this skill up all the way so you can quick cast it if you need. This skill is the best scaling skill Vlad has and is important to know when you can spam it or when you should Q up for the sustain. Get this skill at level 2 if you are going to be pushed in early.

R

-Hemoplague

RANGE: 700 / 175

COOLDOWN: 150 / 135 / 120

vladimirhemoplague.png

ACTIVE: Vladimir infects all enemies in the target area with a virulent plague, increasing the damage they take from all sources by 10% for 4 seconds, after which all infected enemies take magic damage.

§  MAGIC DAMAGE: 150 / 250 / 350 (+ 70% AP)

Vladimir is healed per champion damaged by the detonation, but the heal is reduced to 50% after the first.

MINIMUM HEAL: 150 / 250 / 350 (+ 70% AP)

This is Vladimir’s Ultimate. You target and area and instantly apply a debuff to all enemies in the targeted area. During the 4 seconds all these enemies take 10% increased damage from all sources (IE towers, champions, minions, ignite, etc.). After the 4 seconds this debuff pops and deals a large amount of magic damage to all these afflicted enemies and send a portion of this damage to you as health. This is a deceptively strong ultimate. Not many people understand how strong the damage amplification is and often overlook it. Your goal with this ultimate is to try and get every enemy champion with it so your team can shred through their health bars with all this bonus damage. When you get this ultimate at level 6 you have a huge power spike where you can all-in most champions and win. Don’t be afraid to use this ultimate early in fights, it doesn’t do much good if you use it late due to the damage amplification and healing it gives you. Often times, if you ult correctly, you will be able to dish out tons of damage and then go into safety with pool. When your ult pops while in pool it will fill up all your missing HP from that fight and completely swing the fight with you alone. It helps to have teammates to dish out as much damage as possible during its duration as well so good teammates should try and capitalize during this brief period.

Situational Items

Good Item if you need the slow more than damage
Get this item if you plan on snowballing a lead.
If you get way ahead early or if they have 2 or more Dedicated tanks on enemy composition.
Great against a 2-3 Magic damage enemy comp or heavy CC
Decent item. if you need the bit of mobility it is great.
Great Item if you have a lead

Starting Items:

1054.png2003.png: Doran's Shield, 1 Health Pot

Good for most match-ups where you plan to be more passive, gives good sustain and some tank stats to survive early harass. Is very effective versus low early-game damage champions like127.png and 38.png.

1082.png2031.png or 1082.png2003.png: Dark Seal, Refillable Potion or Dark Seal, 3x Health Pots

Good versus most lanes where you feel you can be aggressive. With Vlads early Q damage you can use this to build a lead and keep it. Upgrades into 3041.png where you can snowball out of control.

Core Items:

3152.png: Hextech Protobelt-01

This is one of Vladimir's most important items now. It gives him a good amount of AP, HP with CDR as well as the active which allows you to gap close without the use of flash. Major Item spike for Vlad and is the item to rush in nearly every game.

3158.png: Ionian Boots of Lucidity

Best boots for Vladimir in general. Increases his mobility and gives him the crucial 10% CDR. A must buy early game as well.

3001.png: Abyssal Scepter

Core Item versus AP champions. It greatly increases Vladimir's Damage output against champions and gives him a good amount of Magic Resist to survive burst.

3089.png: Rabadon's Deathcap

Boosts Vladimir's Passive and all of his ability's damage. A must buy for all Vladimir builds

3157.png: Zhonya's Hourglass

Core Item on Vlad especially versus AD match-ups. This is key for Vladimir's combos. The active along with your vladimirsanguinepool.png gives Vladimir time to wait on his cooldown for another round of damage. Make sure you build 3191.png as early as possible in AD match-ups as you will need to push through lane phase.

Situation Items:

3135.png: Void Staff

If the enemy team builds a lot of Magic Resist then this is a must buy to keep up your damage output

3151.png: Liandry's Torment

The second most efficient damage item behind 3089.png for Vlad. If the enemy team has 2 or more high Health Targets you MUST get this in order to burn through their health bars (Example: 36.png or 57.png). It is very good as a snowballing item if you want to keep progressing your lead with Flat Magic Pen.

3041.png: Mejai's Soulstealer

This item is great on Vladimir and is not bad to build if you got a kill or two in lane. The 15 stack movespeed bonus gives so much power to Vladimir and is not to hard to keep stacks as you are very difficult to kill with vladimirsanguinepool.png and healing from your kit.

3285.png: Luden's Echo

This is an Item I would very rarely ever buy. It could help in snowballing an early lead but is pretty much outclassed by 3151.png in damage efficiency. If you need the movespeed more than the damage this IS a good choice. Overall this is built as a 6th item and only if the enemy team has no real tank.

3065.png: Spirit Visage

This item used to be very strong and borderline OP on Vladimir. Now it is only good versus 3 AP opponents. The reason why is the damage output when you buy this is very low and the health and healing bonuses don't make up for that. In the past the bonuses would be more than worth the damage drop but with some Vlad changes that came through it no longer is the case.

3111.png: Mercury Treads

If the enemy team has a lot of Magic damage or CC get these. Strong versus enemy champions like 127.png and 111.png.

3020.png: Sorcery Boots

This item is good on Vlad if you plan to snowball a lead. I would buy this if I get ahead in lane and the enemy team doesn't have much early Magic resist.

VS

Ahri

Medium

Laning:

In the early game (level 1 and on) you will have trouble trading effectively due to Health cost on E vladimirtidesofblood.png and a high cooldown on your Q vladimirtransfusion.png. Focus on your CSing with these abilities and if she has ahriseduce.png up stay in minions. Just note that ahriorbofdeception.png will be her main damage skill in lane, as long as you are aware of it you can be ready to dodge some if it's damage.

Items:

Starting Items:
This is a matchup where I would start 1082.png2031.png. This will give you plenty of sustain and damage. Ahri's not super oppressive in lane so if you are good at dodging there is no clear need to get 1054.png unless you feel you will ave trouble dodging skillshots.
Be careful of Ahri's level 6 (especially if she has 14.png) as she will likely try all-in you.

Core items:
This matchup you will need to dodge all of Ahri's skillshots so get a  1057.png and transition into Boots ASAP. You should then finish your 3152.png before you finish 3001.png as the Health it gives you is really what you want early.

VS

Akali

Medium

Laning:

You can bully this lane early with you superior ranges and with your updated vladimirtransfusion.png. Don't be afraid to use Q vladimirtransfusion.png on her from level 1 on. The only ability she will have that can even respond to you with, as long as you stay away from melee range, is akalimota.png. However, if you don't build a superior lead quickly in lane, once she hits level 6 and gets akalishadowdance.png, it can turn sour fast so you might have to go on the defensive after that point even if you have bullied her for most the game. She deals Magic damage with akalimota.pngakalishadowdance.png and Physical damage with akalishadowswipe.png and her auto attacks making her damage almost always a relevant threat throughout the game so don't get cocky. Also a tip on fighting her, your vladimirtidesofblood.png will hit her while she is in her akalismokebomb.png so don't be afraid to spam it.

Items:

Starting items:
1082.png2031.png will give you the sustain and Ability power to allow you to pressure early on. You could possibly snowball out of control in this matchup.

Core Items:
You need to grab 3152.png and 3001.png quickly. No need to grab boots early as there is liitle to dodge versus Akali. The Protobelt will give you all the damage and mobility you will need for laning. There is no particular order you should get them but you WILL want them both before going aggressive after she hits level 6.

VS

Anivia

Hard
Laning:
This is a tough matchup for Vladimir overall. Anivia and Vladimir have similar ranges but Anivia's skills flashfrost.png and frostbite.png will do A LOT of damage if you get hit by both as compared to Vlad's vladimirtransfusion.png and vladimirtidesofblood.png combo. Also, Anivia's passive aniviapassive.png allows her to survive almost any all-in attempt and be able to retaliate with nearly full Health so avoid going for kills on her. If you can get jungler help in lane you can have them help you pop her aniviapassive.png so kill attempts are possible. This is mostly a farm lane especially without help from your team.

Items:

Starting Items:
If you want to be aggressive in lane get 1082.png 3x2003.png for early trading and make sure to  dodge her flashfrost.png to frostbite.png combo. If you want to play passive early and focus on farm get 1054.png, you will be able to sustain through most of her damage well.

Core Items:
You should get the standard 1057.png into 3152.png and turn you boots into 3111.png. This will give you the best chance at laning without compromising you late game damage. If you think you have enough damage on your team already (example: you have a dps jungler or support) then you can go for a 3065.png to play the sustain farm game until teamfights begin to break out. This matchup is generally just a tough farmfest and scaling contest.

VS

Annie

Easy
Laning:
This is a match-up that Vlad can do well level 1-6. Your going to want to get a Magic Resist item as soon as possible to survive her burst. At level 6 Annie will start to go for all-in attempts with her infernalguardian.png so be aware. If you can survive the all-ins you will win the lane because Annie has no more sustained damage after her infernalguardian.png burst. If you think you can predict her infernalguardian.png than don't be afraid to use vladimirsanguinepool.png early.

Items:

Starting Items:
1082.png2031.png is your best start. It will give you plenty of early damage and trading potential. There is little reason to get 1054.png at all as your vladimirq.png sustain is more than enough to shrug off Annie's early harass.

Core Items:
Go for the standard 1057.png rush into 3152.png. No need to try and finish you 1001.png super early, the 3001.png is more important to finish after you complete 3152.png

VS

Azir

Medium

Laning:

In general this lane should go in the favor of Azir, however there are a few points where Vladimir will get to be the aggressor. Overall Azir has some mana troubles in the early game where he will mostly use his azirW.png to do most of the Csing. At level 2 he might use a azirQ.pngazirW.png combo and harass you but he won't be able to keep up the attacks as long as you Qvladimirtransfusion.png as often as possible to keep your health up. This will be a lane of attrition where you will try to make him burn mana until he runs out or recalls. After around level 9 the lane dominance turns around. You can start spamming vladimirq.png and vladimirtidesofblood.png to push the lane up and pressure.

Small note you can use vladimirsanguinepool.png to go under Azir's azirR.png.

Items:

Starting Items:
1054.png2003.png Will be the choice because you will want to try and sustain through his early harass and build up a CS lead.

Core Items:
3111.png will be important to get after 1057.png as his azirW.png harass is hard to avoid without some form of full built boots early. You get the standard 3152.png in lane after both of those items early. You will always take some damage but you should be able to Q vladimirtransfusion.png back to a healthy state decently quick.

VS

Corki

Medium

Laning:

Laning versus Corki will be tough because he has a lot of early to mid game damage overall. Your goal is to go as even as possible until you finish 3158.png and at least one item. He has similar ranges to you so after you get to max your Q vladimirtransfusion.png you can start trading well enough to apply pressure back. Corki deals roughly 65% magic damage and 35% physical so Magic Resist is a priority over armor.

Items:

Starting items:
1054.png2003.png will be your best start. The passive and regeneration will be enough to sustain you through most if the damage he deals while you farm. 1001.png are fine but not as useful for your survivability.

Core Items:
3001.png is a great buy because it will reduce his total damage and will allow you to trade very well after you finish it.
3157.png will also be useful because he still builds mostly ad items and rely on autos often for more consistent damage.

VS

Gangplank

Easy
Laning:

A decent matchup. Gangplank has lower lane pressure than you in the earlier parts of the game before he gets his 3078.png. Use this time to push some harass and try to build a lead quickly due to only his parley.png being able to harass you. After he gets a few items it will be hard to get reliable damage trades in. Abuse your new vladimirtransfusion.png, It has a lot of early pressure that can dictate this lane alone if he doesn't respect it.

Note: Killing his barrels raisemorale.png is a must to avoid most of his damage. Try to throw and auto just before it ticks down to 1 hp.

Items:

Starting Items:
Almost any start will work here. All have some merits because of Gankplank's weak early game damage. I recommend the 1082.png2031.png to try and get a snowball going. Late game Gangplank will be able to do more than Vlad so snowballing the lane is very important for late game success.

Core Items:
3191.png Is a must to block as much of his damage as possible. If you kill his raisemorale.png's than you will drop most of his damage down the drain.

VS

Karthus

Easy
Laning:

This is a golden matchup for Vladimir. After about level 3 you should be able to dual with him. if he ever uses his wallofpain.png, which will most likely be behind you, just run at him and start using skills. He has low response damage that if he uses it early will blow a lot of his mana. Don't be afraid to straight trade if he aggros on to you especially if he tries to land wallofpain.png. also your vladimirsanguinepool.png can dodge fallenone.png so don't be afraid to use it.

Items:

Starting Items:
1001.png are the best because it will help you dodge laywaste.png which are easy to predict early in the game.

Core Items:
Start 1082.png2031.png as Karthus has weak harass early. Magic resist isn't super important has most of his damage comes from his karthusfallenone.png3157.png will give you another outlet to dodge fallenone.png without vladimirsanguinepool.png so don't be afraid to get it after your 3152.png and boots.

VS

LeBlanc

Medium
Laning:

This matchup used to be troublesome but with the recent nerfs in 7.4 I have seen very little 7.png. They nerfed LeBlanc's early damage so you should be able to pressure her in the mid-game now. I'd still eb acarful laning while she is in range of leblance.png. The lock down is strong enough to cause major problems in the 1v1 or if she is getting jungler assistance.

Items:

Starting Items:
1054.png2003.png is your best bet to survive her strong level 2 damage if she tries an all-in attempt. 1082.png2031.png is probably a good buy against her now but without seeing her more often I can only assume.

Core Items:
Early Magic Resist is a must so 3001.png must be bought quickly . This is a matchup where I would get BOTH  3001.png and 3111.png. This will allow you to get your big damage items like 3089.png or 3151.png.

VS

Lissandra

Easy

Laning:

This lane is one of the more boring ones for Vladimir. With the amount of mana sustain Lissandra has from her passive with her wave clear from lissandraQ.png she can push you in and deal decent damage. If she is in range don't be afraid to use your Q vladimirtransfusion.png or vladimirtidesofblood.png. After level 6 she can CC you so much you most likely won't be able to deal enough for any solo kills. This is basically a farm lane for both players.

Items:

Staring Items:
1054.png is your best start because you're planning to farm and Doran's will give you the most sustain in lane.

Core Items:
1057.png into 3152.png is the core build for the first few buys. 3001.png is a big item because it will allow you to duel and if she gets behind you can punish her in lane. Make sure you get 3111.png as you will need the CC reduction against her.

VS

Lulu

Medium
Laning:

This can be tough mtachup for Vladimir if done incorrectly. Lulu has a bit more range but a lot more damage and kite for most game long. At level 6 you won't be able to look for all-ins due to her having access to lulur.png and lulue.png for sheilds and Health. You must farm until about level 9 where you can start trading effectively versus her.

Items:

Starting Items:
1054.png is your best be because its passive stops a ton of Lulus early damage.

Core Items:
This is a lane where you go 1057.png into 1001.png into 3152.png. It's a very basic build path but is very effective against this lane matchup

VS

Malzahar

Hard

Laning:

This is one of Vladimir's toughest matchups if played right, luckily there are not many who play Malzahar enough to know this. He will out push you in lane with his alzaharmaleficvisions.png for most of the game. Pre level 6 you have the best chance to get a lead in lane. If you want to be the aggressor make sure you try to avoid his alzaharcallofthevoid.png, the silence is very strong versus Vlad in fights. When Malzahar hits level 6 and gets alzaharnethergrasp.png the lane is pretty much at his command, he will always out damage you with his alzaharmaleficvisions.pngalzaharnullzone.pngalzaharnethergrasp.png combo if it's up. You will want to play as passive as possible until his alzaharnethergrasp.png is on cooldown, when it is you can try to look for kills especially if you dodge the alzaharcallofthevoid.png

Items:

Starting Items:
1054.png is a great start if you plan to be very defensive early on. However, if you think you will perform better and want to be aggressive in lane get1082.png2031.png.

Core Items:
Unless you have a great laning phase get 1057.png3111.png and 3152.png. You need to survive Malzahar's all in combo with alzaharnethergrasp.png. If you do have a great laning phase get 3020.png and try to push your lead whenever alzaharnethergrasp.png is on cooldown.

VS

Orianna

Medium
Laning:

She has the range on you so she will harass often with her ball. Save Q vladimirtransfusion.png to heal up from her harass and stay away from the ball while its on the ground. Her autos hurt almost as much as her abilities because of her passive oriannapassive.png so avoid staying in her auto range too long. She doesn't have much more on you other than good harass so just sustain and get to mid-late (around level 9). Once you get there you can start pushing back and the lane should be an even matchup from then on.

Items:

Starting Items:
1054.png2003.png is by far your best start. It will give you the sustain to survive such a range disadvantage and allow you to progress into you later items.

Core Items:
3152.png3158.pngand 1057.png will be the most important for the cooldown, resistance and Health pool early. This should allow you to scale pretty decently into late where you still shine strong in fights.

VS

Swain

Hard
Laning:

His Damage over time DoT abilities swainbeam.png and swaintorment.pngwill hit you through pool making it hard to survive any engage. His swainmetamorphism.png at level 6 gives him equal sustain and pushing power so you can't out push him for most of the game except after level 9 where your Q vladimirtransfusion.png is maxed. Try to farm under tower in the early parts and look for jungler assistance to try and see if you can get a lead to press.

Items:

Starting Items:
1054.png this is your best start because your goal is to avoid his early DoT skills and sustain until you get some levels and items.

Core Items:
For the most part 1057.png will be the most useful early buy to sustain through his damage. Also this matchup a 3111.png is not a bad boots choice. This matchup is entirely who out sustains who so you want to win that with better resistance.

VS

Syndra

Medium
Laning:

Her skills outrange yours in general but at level 1-3 she doesn't have a large amount of damage. You can vladimirsanguinepool.png her combo of syndraQ.png syndraE.png. Avoid being stunned by positioning yourself to where the is never a ball syndraQ.png between you and Syndra. If she ever syndraR.png you vladimirsanguinepool.png as fast as you can, it will save you from the main portion of her damage. Whenever she grabs something with her syndraW.png stay back because the slow form it will allow her to land free syndraQ.png and can potentially set up her syndraQ.png syndraE.png combo.

Items:

Starting Items:
1001.png is your best bet because you are going to dodge syndraQ.png as much as possible because if you can she will have to use syndraW.png to set up any real damage on you.

Core Items:
3065.png is all the Magic Resisst you really need, as long as you are smart with your vladimirsanguinepool.png you should dodge most of her damages.

VS

Talon

Medium

Laning:

His Early game is not very good against you pre level 6. If you can get some good harass off during this time and reduce his cs as much as possible you should be OK. He is mana dependent so make him farm with histalonrake.png as much as possible keeping his bar low. You can bully this lane overall but after hes level 6 he will have strong burst with talonshadowassault.png. Talon is snowball dependent so unless he gets kills he won't scale well enough to affect the game. That means he is going to either try and kill you in lane or roam a bunch after pushing you in. You can't really let him all-in because vladimirsanguinepool.png won't stop any significant amount of damage so you will need to play defensive and force him to push you in and roam. When he roams make sure to push you lane HARD and let your team know where he might be going so his roams are not as effective and he'll just fall farther behind.

Items:

Starting Items:
1029.png2003.png Is probably your best possible start. 1001.png won't be needed to dodge anything important and 1054.png doesn't reduce much of Talon's damage. Also, 1029.png builds easily into 3191.png which you will need early in the lane.

Core Items:
3157.png Will be needed for the armor mostly. The active is nice and will help you get another round of vladimirtransfusion.png and vladimirtidesofblood.png of in fights but the armor will keep you alive which will make Talon fall behind.

VS

Twisted Fate

Medium
Laning:

Twisted Fate's early game isn't that strong against you since he only has pickacard.png for any reliable damage in lane which he will mostly use on the minions. At level 2 he gets wildcards.png which will allow him to trade much better but since they are decently predictable to dodge he will likely try to use it to out push you in lane. You can often freely harass him most of the game with your Q vladimirtransfusion.png so don't be shy to. When he gets level 6 he will have access to destiny.png which he will want to use to roam. When he tries to roam try to ping the lane he walks towards and push with vladimirtidesofblood.png as hard as you can to try and get some damage on his tower.

Items:

Starting items:
1054.png will be your best start for its damage reduction and early sustain. 1001.png are not as effective because his pickacard.png is the most reliable harass he will use on you.

Core Items:
3065.png is the item to rush because you aren't threatened to much so the more sustain you have the better you can capitalize on his roam and harass attempts.

VS

Varus

Hard
Laning:

Varus is a newer mid lane that has been popping up. He's ad and functions a lot like Xerath in play-style. This is a matchup where Varus has an upper-hand most of the time. His varuse.png gives grievous wounds which is the bane of Vladimir and his varusq.png can poke you outside of Vlad's ranges too. This is generally a tough matchup that is dictated by your ability to dodge his varusq.png's. If you dodge a bunch it's a fine lane if you get hit a bunch he will beat you up for 90% of the game until 3-4 items.

Items:

Starting Items:
1001.png2003.png is your best start because you should be focused on varusq.png dodging. 1029.png is an ok start because it builds into 3191.png quickly but makes it harder to dodge.
Core Items:
3191.png and 3009.png should be built ASAP you MUST avoid his poke to play this lane  well.

VS

Viktor

Medium
Laning:

Viktor has a ton of bust all game long  with his viktordeathray.png and viktorpowertransfer.png alone. Your goal in this matchup, since you have the same ranges on spells, is to avoid viktordeathray.png as much as you can. After Viktor hits level 7 and on he will be able to just viktordeathray.png a whole wave and push you in. If he starts to do so walk to either the bottom or top sides if your minions as they approach so when Viktor goes to clear he has to either viktordeathray.png the wave or miss CS and use it on you. Either way you will get to use your vladimirtidesofblood.png and vladimirtransfusion.png to push back the lane and force him to use mana to try and clear with an additional spell, otherwise if he clears the wave and doesn't attack you you can get free harass off.

Items:

Starting Items:
1001.png are pry your best start because all you have to do is dodge viktordeathray.png for the most part. 1054.png is a fine start also if you think you will have trouble dodging.

Core Items:
3001.png should be the most Magic Resist you will need in the lane. If he runs 14.png than you can get a 3065.png instead with that damage pressure.

VS

Yasuo

Medium
Laning:

Vlad Does well against Yasuo in most situations. The early game against him is really strong in his favor due to his yasuoE.png base damage stacking. Your Q can hit him through yasuoW.png making his defenses useless. Try to make sure to pop his passive shield with and auto then Q him after the shield passes. This way you maximize your damage against him since he can't stop it normally with his yasuoW.png. You should be able to bully this lane all game after you get past level 4, just watch out for a gank or knock up after he hits 6.

Items:

Starting Items:
1001.png or 1054.pngis your best starts because 1029.png doesn't stop the Magic damage of his yasuoE.png. Either will work just use 1001.png if you want to be more aggressive because you can get in and get out faster with your Q vladimirtransfusion.png harass.

Core Items:
As long as you get 3157.png early you will be fine this matchup isn't very dangerous too quickly without feeding Yasuo kills.

VS

Zed

Easy

Laning:

Zed has only 1 skill that is ranged and it's his zedQ.png. You will need to try to dodge it as much as possible. After you get some points in your Q vladimirtransfusion.png Zed will have a hard time laning with you. Most Zed players do a few things to try and win lane, Kill the opponent or poke them down sine Zed doesn't use mana. Luckily he can't poke you down after your Q vladimirtransfusion.png gets on a lower cooldown so his only choice is to try and kill you. Pre level 6 he only has zedW.png to get on top of you for all-ins so be weary of it. After level 6 he has zedR.png and a big power spike. Luckily for Vladimir he has built in tools to stop it. If you are in your vladimirsanguinepool.png before Zed reappears from his ulting you the Death Mark will NOT apply meaning you completely dodged his zedR.png damage. However he is still on top of you so you will have to try and avoid is basic skills damage if you had lower Health to start.

Items:

Starting Items:
1001.png2003.png or 1029.png2003.png will be the best starts in this matchup. 1001.png will be good to dodge Zed's zedQ.png. If you think that he is going to bully you or if you wan't to play more passive take 1029.png to sustain through his early game damage.

Core Items
3157.png Is a must to avoid his zedR.png damage or mark. Just note that even though it stops his ult he can just wait out the invulnerability to unload his damage. You can also use 3157.png right before you come out of vladimirsanguinepool.png so you have 4 seconds to avoid damage to give your team time to get to you.

Make sure you get 3191.png as quickly as possible in this matchup.

Vladimir In The Mid Lane Back to Top

Vladimir has been bouncing between top lane and mid lane for a long time. He has great damage and even better sustain in both lanes. Because of this sustain he is commonly put in the top lane. What people forget about though, is that he has massive Area Of Effect (AoE) damage. This damage is huge and if put in mid lane he can utilize this. With his common top lane play that damage is rarely seen and almost forgotten. You can surprise a lot of teams with all of his dps when put mid. Vlad isn't a pick for all team compositions as a mid laner but if you need to have more AoE for your team or if you want to counter a matchup or even if you want a pushing mid laner, Vladimir is the man for you!

Laining and Combos (Videos are WiP) Back to Top

General 1v1 Laning and Combat:

Vladimir is a mid-range mage meaning he can't generally use skills as poke. Instead you want to think of every engage as a trade of some sort. With Vladimir's updated Q vladimirtransfusion.png you can now harass and fight from level 1 and on. Since Vlad is a sustain based champion you can start a fight under 1 of 2 conditions:
  • 1) They have less Health than you due to the harass you have been providing through lane,
  • 2) you have your CRIMSON RUSH about to come up and you have less Health for now.
If your under condition 1) you'll be fine in most cases. If you're starting from condition 2) you have some interesting interactions with your opponent that you can use. Since you are going to get a burst of Health and a burst of Damage off on them you are technically going to have more Health than them by the time the fight truly starts, however they will see you at lower Health and might think it's an opportunity to get a kill on you. You can use this as an advantage to bait a favorable fight and maybe get a kill and snowball a lead.

When in combat you want to play around your cooldowns. You want to stay around your skills ranges but move back and forth to avoid as much damage while you wait. Make sure you keep your distance on targets that have short or melee range and to keep on top of those champions that are longer range. Your E vladimirtidesofblood.png is key to keeping up with the enemy because it slows but don't use it on a single target more than 3 times you will lose too much Health if the fight is close, instead after a few E vladimirtidesofblood.png's you want to start relying on your Q vladimirtransfusion.png to out sustain the fight.

Combos:

The E Q Combo

This is Vladimir's bread and butter basic Combo. You simply Begin charging your vladimire.png and at anytime after you have begun charging you can go into your vladimirsanguinepool.png
This combo is key because it allows you to get your vladimire.png damage off without anyone being able to disrupt you.

Full Cooldown Combo (with 3152.png)

TL:DR

Charge E vladimire.png > Rvladimirhemoplague.png> Qvladimirq.png> Wvladimirsanguinepool.png> Release Evladimire.png3152.png> Empowered Qvladimirq.png

This is a common way on trying to all-in an opposing laner who steps to close to you.
While you have 1 stack of CRIMSON RUSH you Begin charging your vladimire.png, then before you release it you
vladimirhemoplague.png,  vladimirq.png and vladimirsanguinepool.png. Once your vladimire.png pops you 3152.png at them while pooled and the moment you come out of pool use your now empoweredvladimirq.png to finish them off if they aren't dead already to your vladimirhemoplague.png.

Early Game Back to Top

Level 1-6:

Vladimir used to be a low early game pressure champion that often struggled in most matchups early. Now after the 6.9 update I believe he can now apply a ton of early game pressure by utilizing his new Q vladimirtransfusion.png's timing windows. What you do is you proc your vladimirtransfusion.png twice to charge up your CRIMSON RUSH and about 3-4 seconds before it triggers be just a bit out of range to cast your Q from the enemy so when your CRIMSON RUSH triggers, it will provide you with a brief burst of movement speed to allow you to get a big Q vladimirtransfusion.png off on your opponent with almost no respond from them damage-wise.

Overall after the patch 6.9 try to use Vladimir as a lane bully with your new Q's vladimirtransfusion.png ability to build that early advantage.

Mid game Back to Top

Level 7-12:

Vlad has become much stronger by this part of the game and can start having a strong impact. Roaming is hard for a champ like Vlad due to lack of hard CC, but still try to anyways to get pressure on other lanes. Otherwise you can push mid hard as an intentional bait on the enemy jungler and relieve the bot and top lanes by attracting the pressure to yours. Your teamfight is great with all the AoE built into your kit. Try to force the enemy team to fight you as 4 or 5 with objectives like their blue/red or at dragon/Rift herald.

Late Game Back to Top

Level 13- on:

At this point Vladimir is a monster, he has one of the best late games in league. The best part of it all is, he can split-push and teamfight exceptionally well. Weigh your options and do whats best for the team. I would recommend that you go for teamfights more often because your vladimirhemoplague.png gains more value with allies. WARD UP AND FIGHT! :)
