Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png  (Flash):It's a must have for Vladimir. It gives brilliant mobility for escaping and chasing, it's vital for your burst combo if you are not in range, and it benefits from you buying Ionian Lucidity Boots. Base Cooldown is 5 minutes(300 seconds) but with Ionian Lucidity Boots , this cooldown is brought down to 4 minutes, 30 seconds (270s), this 30 second cooldown reduction can make and break situations.

127.jpg
6.png  (Ghost):It's an extremely flexible, low cooldown and mobility enhancing summoner spell which is incredibly useful and in some cases pivotal for Vladimir. It provides great mobility in lane for chasing/escaping, and it in teamfights it makes you an unkiteable monster. Also benefits from Ionian Lucidity Boots. It's base cooldown is 3 minutes(180s) but with Ionian Lucidity Boots, this goes down to 2 minutes, and 42 seconds(162). While the reduced cooldown may not seem like much, it helps in planning roaming rotations and splitpushing.
127.jpg
14.png  (Ignite)-This is a great summoner spell for Vladimir in lower elo's where snowballing in lane is incredibly easy, or in situations where you need the pivotal ignite advantage/ where you want to abuse the ignite advantage. It's late game usefulness isn't that great but it helps considerably when it comes to bursting down a champion. It has a base 3 minute and 50 second cooldown, but with Ionian Lucidity Boots, it's cooldown is reduced to 3 minutes and 15 seconds  (189s).It's a great summoner spell to use in conjunction with TankBuster Vladimir as you will be mainly focused on deleting individuals.

Masteries Back to Top

The First Mastery Page:
Wanderer6311.png: Better for getting back into lane, roaming  and in some cases escaping from dangerous situations.Savagery can be used by newer players to help with farming.
127.jpg
Assassin6323.png:Better for solo lanes(Middle and Top lane, where Vladimir resides typically) and is in no competition.
127.jpg
Intelligence6352.png: Helps a small bit early game with cooldowns, and makes your spell rotations faster late game. Generally more useful.
127.jpg
Stormraider's Surge6361.png: Gives great mobility, is on a short cooldown, good mastery path and solves a lot of Vladimir's mobility issues, especially versus someone like Nasus and Trundle who have horrific slows.Thunderlord's is an option I haven't really tried out but it would be a great choice for Vladimir's who want to abuse their early/mid game power and snowball, but it is very useless late game, where the burst does not provide much.
127.jpg
Expose Weakness6123.png:Brilliant with your ultimate, makes your team deal more damage, and will help your team carry you if you had a bad game, feast is not a bad option but the sustain becomes useless mid to late game.
127.jpg
Natural Talent6134.png:Extrodinarily useful, helps with auto attacking, gives bonus ability power early game and it scales.Gives 21 bonus health level 18 when paired with your passive.Vampirism is overkill to Vladimir's kit and doesn't really provide any useful utility apart from an extrodinarily small heal.
127.jpg
Bounty Hunter6141.png: Maximizes the potential damage you can do late game, which is very useful. It's up to preference , but this is for players who can utilize it late game.
127.jpg
The Second Mastery Page(Tankbuster Vladimir): Use ONLY When knowledged and skillful with Vladimir. Brilliant build to use versus A. A Tanky laner B. A Tanky enemy team or C. Snowballing versus a very squishy team. This version of Vladimir has incredibly burst damage both on squishies and tanks, but gets punished harder for bad positoning and bad spell rotations.

vladimirpassive.png  Crimson Pact:INNATE: Vladimir gains (2.5% bonus health) bonus ability power and (140% AP) bonus health. These bonuses do not stack with themselves.
-Will loop with Rabadons(1.225% bonus health)
-Is the reason why scaling is extremely good on Vladimir
-Health to Ability Power scaling is very weak.
127.jpg

vladimirq.pngTransfusion: TARGET RANGE: 600 COOLDOWN: 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 Transfusion ACTIVE: Vladimir drains the lifeforce of the target enemy, dealing magic damage and healing himself. MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 100 / 120 / 140 / 160 (+ 60% AP) HEAL: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 (+ 35% AP) Each cast of Transfusion generates a stack of Bloodthirst over its cooldown, which is displayed in his secondary resource bar. At 2 stacks, Vladimir gains Crimson Rush for 2.5 seconds and 10% bonus movement speed for 0.5 seconds. Crimson Rush CRIMSON RUSH: Transfusion deals 85% increased damage and heals for an additional 30 - 200 (based on level) (+ 5% (+ 4% per 100 AP) missing health), reduced to 35% against minions. EMPOWERED DAMAGE: 148 / 185 / 222 / 259 / 296 (+ 111% AP)

127.jpg

-Should be used to poke targets in lane
-High cooldown early game
-Charging up a stack at minute 1:39 by hitting Blue/Red buff with a single Q gives you a single bar progression of Q.
-NEVER Waste an empowered Q heal, especially when you are missing health.

127.jpg
vladimirsanguinepool.pngSanguine Pool:EFFECT RADIUS: 150 COST: 20% CURRENT HEALTH COOLDOWN: 28 / 25 / 22 / 19 / 16 ACTIVE: Vladimir sinks into a pool of blood, gaining 37.5% bonus movement speed which decays exponentially over 1 second and becoming untargetable for 2 seconds. Enemies who stand upon the pool are slowed by 40% and dealt magic damage every half second, while Vladimir heals himself for 15% of the damage dealt. 「 MAGIC DAMAGE PER HALF-SECOND: 20 / 33.75 / 47.5 / 61.25 / 75 (+ 2.5% bonus health) 」
127.jpg
-Main escape tool throughout the whole game
-Completely invulnerable to skillshots/point and clicks
-Still damaged by Damage Over Time Effects
-High cooldown and health cost early game meaning you should only use this as a last resort/an escape from a sticky situation
-Can be used for slow CC
-Can be used to heal in all-in's, due to you a.healing from this effect b.receiving the healing effect from his ultimate or c. empowered Q Doesn't wear off/charges up while in pool form
-If activated while charging E , will deal the damage and heal of your Q, then release your E Torrent.
127.jpg

vladimire.pngTides of Blood:Effect Radius-600-Cost-8% Maximum Health-Cooldown-13/11/9/7/5:

FIRST CAST: Vladimir charges for up to 1.5 seconds, Slow icon slowing himself by 20% over the last 0.5 seconds. If Vladimir finishes charging or is Silence icon interrupted, he automatically initiates the second cast. SECOND CAST: Vladimir unleashes a nova of blood bolts, each of which collide with the first enemy they hit, dealing them magic damage that is increased the longer Tides of Blood was charged, up to the first second. 「 MINIMUM MAGIC DAMAGE: 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 (+ 2.5% maximum health) (+ 35% AP) 」 If Tides of Blood was charged for at least 1 second, affected enemies are also Slow icon slowed for 0.5 seconds. SLOW: 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60% Enemies can intercept multiple bolts, but can only be damaged once. Minions can each absorb up to 5 bolts, and damage nearby unaffected minions if hit.                                                127.jpg

-Main wave-clear tool
-Health effect makes it risky to use early game
-Provides a very small CC effect which is useful for chases or locking down opponents
-Should be used carefully in duels as minions can intercept the bolts
-If charging up pre-sanguine pool, can retain it and charge it fully whilst in sanguine pool.
-You can flash while charging up your E.
-Combos really well with ghost

127.jpg

vladimirhemoplague.pngHemoplague:
TARGET RANGE: 700 EFFECT RADIUS: 175 COOLDOWN: 150 / 135 / 120 Hemoplague ACTIVE: Vladimir infects all enemies in the target area with a virulent plague, increasing the damage they take from all sources by 10% for 4 seconds, after which all infected enemies take magic damage. MAGIC DAMAGE: 150 / 250 / 350 (+ 70% AP) Vladimir is healed per champion damaged by the detonation, but the heal is reduced to 50% after the first. 「 MINIMUM HEAL: 150 / 250 / 350 (+ 70% AP) 」
127.jpg
-In teamfights, you should a.Hit as many targets as possible with this or b.hit the most prioritized target
-If an enemy dies with this on  them, will still heal you
-Can be used while charging up E whilst not in Sanguine Pool.
-To maximize damage per combo, your ideal combo would that deals the most burst damage is E(Charge)-R-Q(which releases your E) , then you either have the choice of auto attacking, going sanguine pool for additional damage/invulnerability, or spamming your mastery emote :^).

-Huge powerspike

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Boots: Good for mobility and being able to poke easier, the 4 extra health potions help you sustain in lane, especially versus lane bullies. Amplifying Tome: Great for early game exploitation and damage. Will help you snowball but also throws you behind really hard since you only get one health potion. Cloth Armor:Good for inexperienced players who want to rush Zhonya's Hourglass versus oppressive match-ups.

Core Items

Versus Attack Damage Match Ups. Rush a Zhonya, then get Lucidity Boots, Fiendish Codex and a Kindlegem, this leaves you with a 40% cooldown reduction cap reached. Proceed to buy Hextech Protobelt, into Rabadons, Then decide with either buying a Luden's Echo into a Banshee's Veil, or Banshee's Veil into a Luden's Echo, Banshee Veil should be prioritized versus a strong AP team, whilst Luden's should be prioritized if your team needs more damage/AoE. Versus an unfavorable AP Match Up, rush a Banshee's instead of a Zhonya's.
Versus a favorable match-up/snowball lane/favorable AP-Match up. Rush a Luden's Echo(Great Waveclear, Great moblity, Amazing burst damage, Good stats), then buy a Fiendish Codex and Kindlegem for 35% cooldown reduction( paired with boots), then build a Hextech Protobelt, into a Rabadon's, then Zhonya's, and finish it off with a Banshee's Veil.
My Classic Pre-Rework Vladimir build (Hextech Protobelt is acting as a replacement for Will of the Ancients). Effectivness not guaranteed.
ONLY to be used in conjunction with TankBuster Vladimir. First item amplifying tome, into a Haunting Guise, into Sorcerer's Boots, into a Void Staff, Then Liandry's into a Rylai's, proceed to buy Rabadon's and finish off the build with Luden's Echo.

Situational Items

    Alternative item choices.
Decide on what your team needs.

VS

Akali

Easy

Easy lane, poke with Q, if she enters Twillight Shroud, use you're E, the torrent of blood will reveal her. You outsustain her burst, and your W hard counters any combo she can make.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Generally easy early game, abuse him whenever in range, but beware level 6. He scales harder than you mid game so getting a banshee's first item is a brilliant idea. Try to avoid his Q , ward your lane because he is a very gankable lane, and  when he lands W on you, run, due to the fact you  have no means of escaping.

VS

Darius

Hard

Hard lane. Very easy to farm in but he WILL punish you for bad positoning. Don't trade with him... ever. Just wait till late game or ganks.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

Go tankbuster Vladimir and abuse his early game. Mid game he can kill you, poke him down before going in and don't let him engage on you with q.

VS

Galio

Medium

Annoying lane, he does an incredibly amount of damage to you, but playing smart and avoiding his E is pivotal for winning this lane. Skill-match up.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

He may or may not beat you pre-6, but when you get Armseeker's, you win lane. Avoid his barrels, poke him at every chance you get, and run ignite to counteract his oranges.

VS

Illaoi

Medium

You are going to get bullied hard in this lane, avoid her E and Q and farm up until level 6, if you can consectuively avoid her poke and poke her down, going in at level 9 with an Zhonya's ready is almost guaranteed to be in your favour, but before that is a very bad and risky idea.

VS

Jayce

Medium

You can abuse him early game but by level 6 his item choices will powerspike his damage intensely, poke him down and don't let him poke you down, he can easily kill you very quickly so be careful. Level 9 you should be clear to kill him.

VS

Katarina

Easy

Easy lane. Poke her whenever, her Q teleport makes it incredibly easy to E her, and she is very squishy. Use your pool to mitigate her ult damage. Running ghost to catch her is vital.

VS

Lissandra

Medium

You outdamage her, but she can very easily escape from you. Farm lane, DON'T push in hard unless you ward heavily or have your jungler for counter gank ready, she makes ganking incredibly easy.

VS

Malphite

Easy

Go tankbuster and abuse his weak early game to hopefully snowball in kills/farm. Ward heavily as his Q hurts your escapes, you can W mid his Q Animation to avoid it, an optimal option when their jungler is lacking CC.

VS

Malzahar

Hard

Easy to kill pre-6, absolutely destroys you after level 6. Ask for lane trade.

VS

Maokai

Easy

An excellent counter to Maokai is Vladimir. You out sustain him, you easily poke him down, and going tankbuster means he is absolutely smashed in lane.

VS

Nasus

Hard

This is a horrid lane for you. He is the only champion that scales harder than you, and a smart Nasus WILL Smash you in trades at level 9. Deny him as much as possible early game, after that just farm and ask for ganks to hard push lane.Early game you can win trades if creep balance is in your favour, but his W Punishes you really hard for being in his creep attack range.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

Literal hell. Be ready to camp your tower, rush Zhonyas and ask for camp. No counterplay.

VS

Poppy

Easy

Easy lane, she can't trade with you. Punish her for farming, avoid walls, and W when she charges up ultimate. Her Q is easy to dodge for a ranged champion.

VS

Renekton

Hard

Horrid lane for you, he outsustains you early game and has two gap closers and a stun to punish you even more for farming, play it safe , farm to the point where he pushes in lane to punish you,  then ask jungler for gank.

VS

Riven

Hard

You get stomped pretty hard after 3, her shield mitigates your damage, and her W cancels your E charge. Farm hard and play safe.

VS

Shen

Medium

Skill match-up. If Shen lands an empowered Q with a taunt on you, you WILL lose the trade. Poke him down and make sure he does not land his empowered Q on you. Punish him for teleporting with R.

VS

Singed

Easy

Incredibly easy match up which always favours you, if it's a lane Singed, abuse his lack of ranged, and when he goes in, use a spell rotation, you out damage him, just don't chase him. If proxy singed, great! Free farm , and tell your jungler to collect free kills. Farmed Vladimir, fed jungler.

VS

Sion

Easy

Avoid his Q and dodge his E. Not that hard. You can W his R, and you scale so much more than him. Luden's for wave clear early game is incredibly useful  to prevent you from getting ganked.

VS

Talon

Easy

Easy match up, avoid his W, and play extremely safe level 2 because early game gank can mess you up and get him snowballing. Never go fully all in unless you are 100% sure you can secure the kill, because he can hop over any wall/terrain.

VS

Teemo

Medium

Delete him. Incredibly squishy, low mobility. He has high damage early game, but poke him and make sure you make it hurt him as much as it hurt you, since you have sustain. But a good Teemo can actually beat you in lane quite hard, so be careful and analyse the situation.

VS

Trundle

Medium

Easy early game, tricky mid game. A smart Trundle will get a hexdrinker/spirit visage and it will cause you  a lot of problems if you don't have void staff by that time, since he deals an extrodinarily high amount of damage. Poke him down, take Stormraider's.

VS

Twisted Fate

Medium

He has very long range with his Q And is a safe farmer. Abuse his lane when he roams, you have ample opportunity to push in and farm, don't waste it.

VS

Vladimir

Hard

Ask him for a farm lane and be comrades with him. Vladimir's should be bros :D

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Easy as hell. A good Yasuo gets stomped by a good Vladimir. Auto attack to proc his shield and Q to poke him, if he windwalls to block your E, move around. Don't let the Yasuo predict when you will release, level 6 your powerspike is a lot bigger than his, but watch out of his level 2 if you put  a point into E instead of W.

VS

Zed

Easy

He has no powerspike level 6 since you can pool his W, incredibly easy lane. Poke him down, and be careful pre 6 because he has a lot of sudden burst. An early Zhonya's practically makes him worthless.

About Me: Back to Top

Hi. I'm KneelBeforeVIad(the I in VIad is a capital i). I've been maining Vladimir since season 5 pre-rework and initially I hated him after his rework since it changed his playstyle from DPS tank to Burst Battle Mage. But I've come to learn him and he has carried me all the way to Platnium. I am nowhere near perfect with this champion when it comes to match-ups, playstyle, et cetera, but I am willing to share my knowledge that I've acquired from playing him for so long.

Vladimir's Lore Back to Top

"That which runs through you will run you through." - Vladimir
Vladimir There is a temple hidden in the mountains between Noxus and the Tempest Flats, where the secrets of an ancient and terrifying sorcery are kept. The area surrounding the temple is littered with the exsanguinated corpses of those who have mistakenly wandered too close. These served only to pique the curiosity of Vladimir, when - in his youth - he trekked through these mountains during his flight from Noxus. A day earlier, the teenaged Vladimir had brutally murdered two boys his age, for no better reason than to enjoy the intoxicating scarlet bloom that surged forth. He realized immediately that he would never be able to suppress his murderous desires, and if he remained in Noxus, his foul deeds were sure to catch up with him. Without hesitation, he abandoned the city-state, and journeyed south. The trail of bodies led him to a crumbling stone temple. Inside he found an aging monk who appraised him with eyes of pure crimson. Vladimir surprised the monk by returning the wicked gaze with zeal. Recognizing the boy's sinister craving, the monk taught Vladimir how to manipulate and control the fluid of life, often practicing on passing travelers. When it came time for Vladimir to learn the final lesson, the monk warned that failure would result in death. Vladimir did not fail, but success bore a grisly surprise. During the ritual, every drop of the monk's blood was drawn from his body and fused with Vladimir's, imbuing him with his master's magical essence, and that of every hemomancer before him. Left alone and suddenly without purpose, Vladimir resolved to return to Noxus, determined to prove the supremacy of his craft. When the Noxian High Command observed the gruesome fates which befell the palace guards, they elected to avail themselves of Vladimir's unsavory talents.
