Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png11.png--> Most common Summoner Spells for Jungle usually.

6.png11.png--> Not bad on Voli for engaging, chasing, or escaping.

New Runes Back to Top

231.png
With the new runes, Volibear has a few ok-ish/good options, but Aftershock.png?width=32 (Aftershock) is probably the best overall keystone for him. Following that, you can take Perseverance.png?width=32 (Unflinching), Conditioning.png?width=32 (Conditioning), and Overgrowth.png?width=32 (Overgrowth). For your secondary tree, you can take Triumph.png?width=32 (Triumph), and Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32 (Legend: Tenacity). This page offers a tanky primary with a secondary that helps us survive and stay in the fight. However, Revitalize.png?width=32 (Revitalize) doesn't seem like a bad option either when compared to Overgrowth.png?width=32 (Overgrowth), since the increased healing will help buff up his passive. Up to you on that one.

231.png
PRIMARY: Resolve

Aftershock.png?width=32--> Aftershock works the best for Volibear because your Q can proc it and you become very tanky, and the extra blast damage is pretty nice as well.

Perseverance.png?width=32--> Unflinching is good for helping Volibear escape and chase opponents; increased tenacity and slow-reduction are key to helping him do just that.

Conditioning.png?width=32--> Conditioning is pretty good for Volibear jungle; the extra resistances post 10-minutes are good for mid-game.

Overgrowth.png?width=32Revitalize.png?width=32--> Overgrowth is pretty good and the extra HP via killing monsters is great. However, Revitalize isn't a bad option either, the increased healing from our passive is definitely nice.

179.png
SECONDARY: Precision

Triumph.png?width=32--> Triumph is far and away the best out of the 3 options on the first row. Works great for staying alive in fights and going for more risky plays.

Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32--> Legend: Tenacity is a perfect fit for Volibear. Gaining Tenacity for takedown's can help us stay alive and keep moving in team-fights, especially against enemy compositions with high amounts of crowd control.

For Volibear, we max volibearw.png (W), then volibearq.png (Q), then volibeare.png (E). And we level up our volibearr.png (R) when applicable. Our volibearw.png (W) is a large portion of our damage, our volibearq.png (Q) is our chase/escape/engage tool, our volibeare.png (E) is our slow for enemy champions to help us get into volibearq.png (Q) range, or to get in a few more auto-attacks. Our volibearr.png (R) is a lighting damage effect that helps out put out more DPS (Damage Per Second) in a team.

231.png
volibearpassive.png

PASSIVE: Chosen of the Storm

Volibear will regenerate 30% of his max HP when below 30% max health over a 6 second duration.

Voli1.png

Volibear's volibearpassive.png (Passive) is great throughout all portions of the game. It can help us win early duels or 2v2's, or help us survive in a team-fight. In combination with runes like Revitalize.png?width=32 (Revitalize) we can sustain in fights and do more work for our team.

231.png
volibearq.png

Q-Ability: Rolling Thunder

Volibear gains bonus movement speed (bonus movement is doubled when moving toward a visible enemy champion within an 1800 unit area). Also, Volibear's next attack (with his Q-active) deals bonus physical damage and flings the target over and behind him. This ability will also reset Volibear's auto-attack timer.

Voli2.png

Volibear's volibearq.png (Q) is his primary engage tool. It helps us start fights and offers the CC needed to proc Aftershock.png?width=32 (Aftershock). The bonus movement speed is also good for disengaging or running away from a bad fight if need be.

231.png
volibearw.png

W-Ability: Frenzy

PASSIVE: Volibear basic attacks grant bonus attack speed for a 4 second duration stacking up to 3 times. At 3 stacks, Volibear can use the active portion of this ability.

ACTIVE: Volibear bites a target for physical damage, increasing by a percent based on how much health the enemy is missing. Frenzy's cool-down is also halved if it is used on a monster.

Voli3.png
Volibear's volibearw.png (W) is a good chunk of his damage throughout the game. Proper timing is key to having success with this ability. Using it when their HP is too high can make it ineffective, which can be costly.

231.png
volibeare.png

E-Ability: Majestic Roar

Volibear deals magic damage to all nearby enemies and slows them. Minions and Monsters are feared instead, and slowed by 100% for the duration.

Voli4.png

Timing Volibear's volibeare.png (E) right before his volibearq.png (Q) is a good way to ensure you can get into range to land the volibearq.png (Q). Using this ability in the middle of a team-fight can be huge, and may offer your team the winning edge if the slow allows your team to jump onto their carries and take them out.

231.png
volibearr.png

R-Ability: Thunder Claws

Volibear deals magic damage up to 8 nearby enemies. Afterwards, for up to 12 seconds, Volibear's basic attacks deal the same damage as bonus magic damage that bounces up to 7 nearby unaffected enemies.

Voli5.png

Starting a fight off with a volibearr.png (R) followed by a volibearq.png (Q) is a good way to start off a team-fight. Outputting as much damage as possible is ideally what you want to do. It can help take down their carries, which is essential to winning a team-fight.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Standard Jungle start.
Standard Jungle start, except switching refillable potion for 3 health potions.

Core Items

    Standard Tank Volibear Build.
    Tri-force Volibear build.
    Another Tank Volibear build.

Situational Items

If you need more engage, this is a good buy as well.
    Good against AD champions/compositions.
Good against compositions with a lot of slows.
Good buy at times. Depends on the circumstances of the game.
Good against champions like Malzahar and Brand.
Not a bad option sometimes. Good if you're looking for a little more damage output.
Niche. Not bad if you need to keep your carries alive.
Niche. Another good option if you need to keep your carries alive.
231.png
1041.png--> Machete is the best starter item for Volibear jungle. Lifesteal and attack speed are good for helping us clear the jungle early on.

1401.png--> Blue smite Cinderhulk helps us chase down opponents (or escape from opponents). Also, it helps us scale up into the game to become a massive front-line tank.

3111.png--> Merc treads are great against CC and magic damage. The tenacity helps prevent you from getting locked down, and the magic resist is good against AP threats.

3078.png--> Tri-force is a good damage option for Volibear. This item gives us a lot of good stats, and helps boost our damage in team-fights.

3065.png--> Spirit visage is good because it can help increase our passive healing in a big way. Also offers health and MR.

3075.png--> Thornmail offers armor and health, and reflects magic damage back to the enemy. Also slows their attack speed when you're hit by one of their basic attacks.

3083.png--> Warmogs offers Volibear a large amount of health and 10% CDR. Also, if you're over (or at) 2750 HP, you get the awesome passive which restores a large amount of HP after not taking damage for a short time.

3742.png--> Tankiness and move speed. Along with the extra damage when Deadman's is ready to proc, this item is pretty good on Volibear.

3143.png--> Good against AD damage threats. Slows attack speed, and has an AoE slow active, while reducing critical damage. It also offers a nice amount of armor and HP.

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

231.png
1. Volibear's volibearq.png (Q) resets his auto-attack timer.

2. Volibear's volibearw.png (W) applies spell effects as a single target ability. His volibearw.png (W) can also be blocked by spell-shield.

3. Volibear's volibeare.png (E) will fear clones. hallucinatefull.png (Shaco R) for example.

4. Upon casting his volibearr.png (R) Volibear gets slightly larger in size.

5. Timing your volibeare.png (E) right before your volibearq.png (Q) is a good way to chain-CC an enemy champion.

6. Volibear's volibearw.png (W) does damage based on how much max HP the enemy is missing. Keep that in mind.

7. Volibear's passive volibearpassive.png (Chosen of the Storm) starts it cool-down as soon as it activates.

Playing as Volibear Back to Top

231.png
Early game: Most match-ups you face should be a "farm up and scale" type thing. Volibear is an engage tank, and he needs items to serve his purpose as a huge front line enager for his team. Farm up and look to scale into the mid-game/late-game.

Mid game: Mid-game is when you group with your team and contest objects. Volibear is a front line champion, and you should look to protect and peel your carries, or attack their carries if the chance prevents itself. Again, itemizing correctly is key to having a solid mid-game.

Late game: Peel for your carries and threaten their carries; decide whether or not you should peel back and help your carries, or go forward (soaking damage) and attack their carries. Decision making is key in these late game team-fights. Also, consider what objectives are up, and look to ward them up and take them, or contest the enemy team if they try to take them.

About me Back to Top

179.png
I began playing league around the start of season 4 and picked up Yasuo around March of that year, and have remained a dedicated main since then (My favorite skin is High-noon, and I like all of the chroma's). After a few months of dedicated playing, my main account hit platinum 2 in season 5 and my smurf had reached diamond. Following that, in season 6 I was able to cruise into Diamond smoothly on my main account and currently in season 7 (as you probably saw by my lolking link). I ended season 7 in Diamond 5 sadly because I didn't have a lot of time to grind out games, and because I was simply not good enough to climb to where I wanted to be. I did however peak Diamond 3, 100 LP (D2 promos), so while I'm not yet where I want to be, I know I can do it in the future.
