Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells you should take:

FLASH
4.png
You should always have flash on Wukong, no matter what role you're playing as or what lane you're in. Flash allows you to escape ganks, get kills you wouldn't be able to get otherwise, get in range for monkeykingnimbus.png so you can engage, save a monkeykingspintowin.png when you messed it up by suddenly standing in their team. It's almost too much to name. Take it 100% if your games with Wukong.

IGNITE
14.png
I usually take ignite as my second summoner spell, because wukong is a snowballer who has a strong early-game. You need some kills to become a threat later, because just farming up when you have a bad game will leave you kinda hopeless because it will take a very, very long time before you will become strong and you don't have the best wave-clear. Another problem would be that Wukong can be caught easily when split-pushing and is too useful in teamfights to do it too much. In other words, take ignite most of your Wukong games.

TELEPORT
12.png
The other commonly seen second spell for toplane. Teleport allows you to roam, join teamfights, contest dragons, split-push and recall early without missing much farm. You can take this if you're playing draft-mode and you have a lane where you're going to struggle (Darius for example), but I usually would still take ignite over teleport because every lane is winable and ignite just gives you the extra combat-power.

Summoner Spells that are OK to take:

GHOST
6.png
I personally don't use this very often, but it is a pretty decent spell on Wukong when paired with flash. It gives you an extra escape and a way to be even more impactful with monkeykingspintowin.png because more movement-speed means more control. You are however, most likely at a disadvantage in a 1v1 and laning-phase in general.

EXHAUST
3.png
Quite a good combat summoner for top lane. This allows you to win all lvl 2 all-ins if they were to happen (and you should always force them) and it helps you stick to important targets better. Exhaust scales a lot better than ignite, but exhaust is easily wasted and it is harder to get kills with it compared to ignite. It is not bad by any means, but most of the times, ignite is still the better choice. It is very good to take to hard, all-in lanes to prevent getting first-blooded.

SMITE
11.png
When you're jungling, take this

Summoner Spells you don't take:

All other summoner spells tbh

Also don't take the other bullshit like 10.png or 2.png (EDIT: RIP in pieces revive)

14.png4.png Also has the highest winrate on him, at 56.51%

Masteries Back to Top

Why thunderlord's over deathfire touch?

The reason for this is simple: Not only is thunderlord's decree the strongest keystone mastery at the moment, it synergises well with Wukong since his standard harass combo of monkeykingnimbus.png -> AA -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png is a quick burst that damages the opponent 3 times, proccing thunderlord's decree.

Why take 12/18/0 instead of 0/18/12?

This is because the Ferocity tree offers a lot more for Wukong than the resolve tree. For example:  bounty hunter and double edged sword. This means you need to make up for your lack of tank stats in items, but it's worth the trade, as the items really favor bruisers this season.

Why take bounty hunter instead of oppressor?

I feed like bounty hunter is better because Wukong is good at snowballing, so early kills mean that you'll have an easy time just murdering entire teams. He also only has one form of CC, being his monkeykingspintowin.png, so oppressor will not be activated that often with Wukong anyway. On jungle Wukong with Red buff and 3706.png, opperssor would be a viable option.

I feel like the rest is pretty self explanatory

So, a big discussion among Wukong players is what you should max first, Q or E. Like you can see I strongly advice you to max your E first, because:

Leveling your Q first gives:
  • More damage (30 per time)
  • More armor reduction (+5% per time)
  • Lower cooldown (1 sec per time)
Leveling your E first gives:
  • More damage (45 per time)
  • More attack speed (+5% per time)
The main reason I max E first is the fact that you'll deal more damage at early levels, and the fact that the armor reduction is not that useful in the early-game because your opponent won't have much armor at that moment. The cooldown of your Q going down by one second isn't that impressive honestly, because maxing E will still give you the highest damage output overall. Some people think that you should max your Q vs very tanky lane-opponents, but I also disagree with that. Vs a tank you want to focus on farming, pushing and roaming, maxing E allows you to do that way better. And attack-speed is also very good vs tank champs, since less damage is blocked from your abilities.

You can take Q at level 1 and E at level 2, it doesn't make a huge difference honestly, just experiment with it for yourself. I just prefer E as it helps with getting 2 minions at the same time.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Big balls start. Gives a lot of early AD and some pots for lvl 2 trades
Against heavy ad lane with strong early game (Tryndamere for example)
Just not a good starting item on wukong imo (notes)
against a poke lane (teemo for example)
To avoid skillshots (Nidalee's spears for example)
Good sustain start. You can take this into pretty much every lane
    for laningphase. always start this
    super late-game options (full build)
More in-depth on starting items in the author-notes!

Core Items

Ideal first back: Serated Dirk: Huge damage boost. Hexdrinker to have kill potential and defenses vs mages. Vamp for sustain. Tiamat if you're rushing Hydra. Phage not often. Cleaver rush is rare
Try to Get 3 of these in every game you play. These are your main damage items. Your defensive items are ofcourse very sitiuational. I like rushing hydra in most lanes and getting ghostblade or cleaver after. LW is more lategame in S6
Also early game core. Take one of these, depending on what defensive item you take first. This will make sure you have some survivability in early teamfights and skirmishes
    EXAMPLE VS AD HEAVY
    EXAMPLE VS AP HEAVY
    Example of a full build
Example if you are the main damage dealer on the team
example when you need to be the main tank on the team
Example of a full build V2
a carry build if you have trouble engaging fights
Iron for tenacity + slow resistance, Wrath for more damage (Iron is prefered)
A Bruiser build if you have trouble engaging fights

Situational Items

if they have a lot of burst or if you get focussed in teamfights, get a ga. It is a good defensive item vs a mixed team. Go full retard when it's up
The 4 viable boots options. I went into more detail in the author notes down below, so check that out if you want to know when to buy which boots
Do they have too much ad for you? get some armor. Only take thornmail vs 5 ad or fed adc, I usually take a randuins only, but the others are better in some situations
Get hexdrinker asap if you're against an AP lane (Vladimir for example). upgrade into maw later in the game, as 5th item for example
Since Wukong is so incredibly reliant on snowballing, I don't think this 'farm and wait for late-game scaling' item is any good on him. Pretty much ADC and Gankplank exclusive anyway
If you're fed, and they are building armor (semi-core). Essential vs multi-tank comp. You are however, usually better of with flat armor pen
Take bansees for most tank stats, take maw vs bursty mages as an offensive item. Take mercurial scimitar as offensive item vs hard cc spells (morgana for example). If you need some extra cdr and a defensive mr item, spirit visage is your best friend
Both are great armor pen items if you're looking for a more assassin-like playstyle. Both are great for solo-target burst. I prefer ghostblade however, because of the active
Good for initiating teamfights. if you are going for this, don't wait too long with buying catalist, it provides great sustain. make sure to pop it right before engaging as it will then slow duing your ult
If you need a lot of HP, these 2 items are both good items. HP scales well with your passive, but usually items that give both hp and resistance are better.
Seems to be a decent replacement for ravenous hydra. It gives a bit of healing during your ult, but works best with your e and q
Good item for early sustain in hard lanes. Can be built into rightious glory or warmogs armor. Only take it to harder lanes, especially if they have hybrid/true damage
Jungle wukong build, i have made a short section with more information down below. With the new BC, you can get 40% with it if you take good runes + masteries and warrior enchant. this means you dont need the cdr boots
The 'Allorim way' is getting 2 early doran's blades, so you can either push an advantage, or to have a real form of sustain vs harder lanes. Don't go full ryan choi though, 2 doran blades is enough
These are items that are good to take against CC. the QSS and banshees are better vs 1 hard cc spell you need to block (morgana bind for example), the tenacity items are better vs cc focused teamcomps

VS

Aatrox

Easy
DIFFICULTY: 3/10

Not a hard lane for you because he is squishy and has weak early-game 1v1 potential, just make sure his aatroxQ.png is on cooldown before you use your monkeykingspintowin.png or make sure you have another way to stick to him after he uses it to get away (4.png for example). He has decent sustain if he can farm, so try to deny him. Never forget his aatroxpassive.png because using too many cooldowns and summoners just to get rid of that 'guardian angel' is not worth in most cases (unless you can kill him afterwards).

OR

VS

Akali

Easy
DIFFICULTY: 2/10

She is squishy and very weak pre-6. Try to deny her of CS and kill her if she comes to close. After level 6 you still have the advantage if you don't let her roam. Always have a 2043_32.png when playing vs her, even if she isn't your lane opponenent. Don't let her akalimota.png -> AA for free, as she Akali actually does mean damage if you let her. If you both hit 6, you're stronger as she needs to stack her ult first, before she can win all-ins.

START: 1036_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3

OR

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 and 2004_32.png x 1

VS

Ashe

Easy

DIFFICULTY: NOT A LANE MATCH-UP

This should never be a problem for you, even if she is 20/0. You can block her asheR.png with monkeykingdecoy.png and your monkeykingspintowin.png is way to bursty for her to react, also, she has no escapes.

START: This champion does not affect your starting items.

VS

Azir

Hard

DIFFICULTY: 8/10

If you ever have to lane against this guy as a wukong, you're gonna have a bad time. He has insanely long ranged poke with his sand soldiers' auto-attacks. When you both hit 6, his azirR.png destroys your entire engage because it will knock you back. Don't use monkeykingspintowin.png if he still has his ultimate, because you'll most likely waste it. Your early harass is slightly stronger, but he is mobile and can also engage very hard. Try to harass back from his poke and try not to get zoned.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 and 2004_32.png x 1

VS

Caitlyn

Easy

DIFFICULTY: NOT A LANE MATCH-UP!

She is very squishy, has no good escapes and you can block her caitlynaceinthehole.png with monkeykingdecoy.png. She should be no trouble for you.

START: This champion does not affect your starting items.

VS

Cassiopeia

Easy

DIFFICULTY: 3/10

Overall annoying in laning-phase but your all-in burst is to much for her and when she poisons you with cassiopeianoxiousblast.png or cassiopeiamiasma.png use monkeykingdecoy.png so she can't rape you with her cassiopeiatwinfang.png. If you think she is going for a cassiopeiapetrifyinggaze.png, use monkeykingdecoy.png in advance so she can't all in you during the 2 second stun, but only for 0.5 seconds, which means she can't burst you down, and ofcourse turn around to deny her the stun all together and instead you just get slowed for 2 seconds.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 and 2004_32.png x 1

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 6/10

He's tanky and has a very strong silence. Wukong needs his abilities to be strong so this lane will be very annoying. Ask for a early gank and gain dominance of your lane, after that just farm and start roaming. Get a 3155_32.png if he goes full AP. Try to deny him stacks on his feast.png by harassing him in lane, or when he tries to ult you, make your monkeykingdecoy.png tank it. You can do this by using monkeykingdecoy.png when his rupture.png knocks you up, as he'll most likely try to ult you mid air or soon after. Once he gets to about 4+ stacks he will be very tanky, probably too tanky to handle for you. Don't focus on fighting him then.

START:1001_32.png and 2003_32.png x 4

OR

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 and 2004_32.png x 1

note: get boots to avoid his rupture (Q)

VS

Darius

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 5/10

The reworked Darius is not a lane bully anymore. If he charges his dariuscleave.png, use monkeykingnimbus.png on him as he will not apply dariuspassive.png (the bleed) and his dariuscleave.png will do recuded damage. His dariusnoxiantacticsonh.png doesn't slow attack-speed anymore, so you can get good trades, even if you get hooked in. If Darius has 12.png and you have 14.png, you can kill him early. Trade at level 1 and 2 so you can go for a kill at level 4. You can cancel the animation of his dariusexecute.png by pressing monkeykingdecoy.png.

START: 2041.png and 2003.png x 3 and 2004.png x 1

VS

Diana

Medium

DIFFICULTY: 5/10

She has quick bursty trades, but is kinda squishy. Make sure you don't get poked down by her dianaQ.png. She is pretty easy to just all-in as her only escape (dianaR.png) will put her in a worse position than she already was (in lane). Abuse your stronger early game and ask for ganks, as she is easy to gank.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 and 2004_32.png x 1

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 5/10

He's tanky as fuck, but has no real way to damage you. Ask for a gank and gain lane dominance. Then, once you're done farming, start roaming. He relies very heavily on getting an early 3065_32.png, so since you're AD, that already gives you an advantage. You can kill him before level 6, but after that his sustain will likely overpower you. Never focus him in teamfights.

START: 1036_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3

OR

START: 1001_32.png and 2003_32.png x 4
note: start boots to dodge his infectedcleavermissilecast.png

VS

Ekko

Medium

DIFFICULTY: 5/10

Early lane is a bit rough, but after level 3 you can just deny his ekkopassive.png with monkeykingdecoy.png. Ekko has difficulties in extended trades as he has long cooldowns and can only proc his passive once. Abuse this and try to extend trades as long as possible. After level 6 you can burst him down easily. Just make sure his ekkoR.png isn't a good escape route. Wait until his hologram is pretty close to where Ekko himself is and take your chance, as he can't use it to escape that way. In teamfights you should just blow him up and force him to ult defensively.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 2004_32.png x 1

VS

Fiora

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 5/10

You can win early trades very hard. After level 6 it's gets easier as long as you don't waste your monkeykingdecoy.png. She can parry 14.png and the knock up of monkeykingspintowin.png and the damage of monkeykingdoubleattack.png or monkeykingnimbus.png. It's hard to monkeykingdecoy.png properly because her fiorapassive.png disapears for her team when you do (vision wise). When she fioradance.png you, you should use monkeykingdecoy.png, even though she will know you used it, she can't auto-attack you so it gives you some room to breath as she can't proc the 4 chunks of the ult. Her late game is very strong though, so don't expect to 1v1 her even if you win lane.

START: 1029_32.png and 2003_32.png x 4 and 2004.png x 1

VS

Fizz

Medium

DIFFICULTY: Depends

General:
- he's hard to catch (has 2 escapes)
fizzseastonepassive.png leaves a mark making monkeykingdecoy.png kinda useless outside of trades
- use monkeykingdecoy.png block his ult

4/10 AP (3100_32.png3089_32.png3285_32.png): He isn't going to outburst you, he's very squishy and has no sustain and a bad laningphase overall. You can abuse his early laning phase a lot and you should. Shove waves so he can't roam and just trade as often as possible. As long as he can't roam he'll be useless as he can really 1v1 ever.

6/10 AD (3078_32.png3153_32.png3091_32.png): Does a lot of damage early and wins any extended trade with you. He's still a slippery fish and is hard to just straight up kill. His fizzseastonepassive.png does a lot of damage at all stages. Late game you should just try to blow him up in teamfights.

7/10 Bruiser (3717_32.png3078_32.png3110_32.png): Also very annoying. He'll get to lane at level 2 and since you can't shove effectively at level 1, he wont miss any xp. Abuse him when he doesn't have a 3715_32.png yet, as you'll have a spell advantage. He will be impossible to kill while still putting out good damage. It isn't as good as a few patches ago, but it still works.

VS

Galio

Easy

DIFFICULTY: 3/10

He has pretty good early harass, but he benefits most from building magic resist, which is useless against Wukong. You'll force him to build armor, lowering his damage to be pretty much non-existent early mid-game. His ult is pretty nasty though, but it doesn't cancel yours.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 and 2004_32.png x 1

VS

Gangplank

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 7/10

He has really hard hitting barrels on his raisemorale.png and better sustain/poke than you. Try to trade a lot early, as he will start outscaling you after level 5 due to the high damage on his barrels. Use your monkeykingdoubleattack.png to destroy his barrels if they are seriously zoning you, otherwise don't come near or use a standard basic attack.

START: 1029.png and 2003_32.png x 4 and 2004.png x 1

OR

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 and 2004_32.png x 1

VS

Garen

Hard
DIFFICULTY: 8/10

THIS MATCH-UP SUCKS. Garen is too tanky for you to kill and if he has used his garenjustice.png on you, using monkeykingdecoy.png afterwards is useless. The silence on his garenslash3.png is a pain as well, so the moment he will hit it on you, use you monkeykingdecoy.png to avoid the silence. Just try to farm and roam because you can't kill this guy. His damage output pre-6 is pretty low though, so you won't need armor or anything like that. I was up against one of these badboys in ranked and I could hold my own pretty well early game, but he got a level 3 triple kill so the rest of the game wasn't very eye-opening on this match-up. Don't let him use his garenpassive.png, use monkeykingnimbus.png when it gets activated.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 4

VS

Gnar

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 4/10

Gnar is a pretty easy match-up for Wukong. He only has 100 more range when you use monkeykingdoubleattack.png, so even though he is ranged, it shouldn't be a problem. When he is mini Gnar you should just harass him by jumping onto him, because he is very squishy. He is however, pretty hard to monkeykingspintowin.png when he is mini Gnar, because of his gnarE.png. In his mega form, I suggest you harass him less because it makes him tankier, but you can monkeykingspintowin.png him a lot easier. Try to block his boulder toss (Q mega) with your monkeykingdecoy.png. Don't start teamfights if he is mega Gnar or if he is about to be.

START: 1036_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3

OR

START: 2041.png and 2003.png x 3 and 2004.png x 1

OR

START: 1054_32.png and 2003_32.png x 1
note: get doran shield if you're scared of his poke, get long sword if you want early kills

VS

Hecarim

Medium

DIFFICULTY: 6/10

Hecarim is a very tanky and mobile toplaner, which might make people think he would be a counter, but since he can't really trade with you 1v1, it isn't that bad. Just trade all day and kill him when he gets very low. He is hard to monkeykingspintowin.png because of the mobility I mentioned earlier, but if you don't use it when you'll need the full duration to kill him, but more as a last burst, you should be fine. Keep trades short as his hecarimrapidslash.png has strong early game damage and has a very short cooldown. His teleport ganks are insanely powerful, but you can't do much about that making it a big problem.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 and 2004_32.png x 1

OR

START: 1029.png and 2003.png x 5

VS

Heimerdinger

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 5/10

DON'T FIGHT HIM IN HIS TURRETS!!! Really, just don't, because he will kill you (for early levels that is). Just let him push and farm, but once you reach early-mid game and have your monkeykingspintowin.png you should harass him a few times, even if he is hiding in his turrets, and all in him once he has about half hp and you have your cooldowns back up. Try to block his hextechmicrorockets.png with your monkeykingdecoy.png. Disengage on his H-28Q Apex turret (upgrade!!!.pngh28gevolutionturret.png).

Irelia

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 6/10

She is more of a late game champ and since she does true damage, get hp early. You should be able to kill her at level 2. At level 7-9 she will probably overpower you, so start roaming from that point on. Stack hp when the she gets ahead and try to harass her as much as possible. Her stun might be a pain but you can win early trades. Do take magic resist to this lane, or else her ireliaequilibriumstrike.png will absolutely destroy you. 3078_32.png is her absolute powerspike.

VS

Janna

Hard

DIFFICULTY: NOT A LANE MATCH-UP!

Janna, she is a strong support atm, but that doesn't really matter untill lategame. The problem with her is, she destroys all your attempts of engaging during a teamfight and can keep you of her carries with ease. She can knock you out of your monkeykingnimbus.png with her howlinggale.png and when you try to use your monkeykingspintowin.png) during a teamfight, she can just reapthewhirlwind.png you away. Very annoying.

START: This champion does not affect your starting items.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

DIFFICULTY: 5/10

This guy has pretty good damage early game, but is mana-hungry and skillshot-reliant. Be sure to have good vision control because J4 is great at setting up ganks with jarvanivcataclysm.png. This lane can be easy if you take advantage of your slightly stronger early-game. In teamfights he can lock down your monkeykingspintowin.png by jarvanivcataclysm.png you, making you blow your ult or pop your flash. You can win lane, but the real question will be who will be more game-changing in teamfights? You can escape his jarvanivcataclysm.png by using monkeykingdecoy.png when standing as close to the wall as possible, as it pushes you forward just a little bit. This is important to remember when facing him, even though it is very hard to actually pull of.

VS

Jax

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 5/10

Once he jumps on you with jaxleapstrike.png, just monkeykingdecoy.png away and you should be fine. Same thing goes for his jaxcounterstrike.png. He is a bit too tanky for you to kill him in one combo, but early game you should be stronger than him, since you need two abilities to do damage, and he needs all three. Keep your trades short so he won't get the extra attackspeed. You should always save your monkeykingdecoy.png for when he jumps on you, because a good jax will jump on you as soon as you waste it and all in you. And the second you get stunned by his jaxcounterstrike.png it's over. The earlier levels are very risky for both of you, since the one with the first kill gets a huge advantage. I advise to play very safe at level 1, play more aggresive at level 2, and from that moment just try to harass and to not get caught by jaxcounterstrike.png. At level 6 you need to keep an eye on the passive on his jaxrelentlessassault.png, which makes every 3rd auto-attack deal bonus damage. A good Jax will always play aggressive after those two auto-attacks. If he pairs it with jaxleapstrike.png and jaxempowertwo.png, it will deal insane damage. It resets after 2.5 seconds, so just for that little time to save you from a lot of damage.

Jayce

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 4/10

He will poke your booty 'til the end of time. Just play safe and kill him once you're level 6. He can't really do much to you when you get your monkeykingspintowin.png. He won't do much damage if he falls behind so just play safe early so he doesn't get ahead. He is pretty good at preparing ganks so keep your bush warded. Make agressive early plays and try to keep the minion wave out of turret range.

VS

Kassadin

Medium

DIFFICULTY: 5/10

Kassadin is an anti-mage: he counters magic-damage (no problem), has a strong slow (kinda annoying), but what makes him most annoying is the amount of mobility his riftwalk.png gives him. Early harass is key in winning this lane, his level 1 is strong, but 2-5 is pretty meh, while wukong starts shining from level 2 and up. You should get an early 3155_32.png to survive kassadins bursty trades at level 6. Try to push him into his turret at level 6 and keep him there so he can't roam.

VS

Kayle

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 6/10

Kayle is a very annoying champ to lane against. Her kayleR.png negates most of your monkeykingspintowin.png damage. She does way too much damage for you to do anything early game because of her poke and she has more sustain because of her heal. She is pretty squishy though, so if her ult is down, try to all in her.

VS

Kennen

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 6/10

This lane is annoying, but has potential to be easy. He will poke you 'til the end of time, but you can also harass him a lot. His lightning works like a 3087.png so even when you use your monkeykingdecoy.png it will still kinda reveal you to him (it follows you while your in stealth). He is very squishy so once you're level 6, this lane becomes in your favor. Also, don't stack early armor, because even though most Kennens start with AD items, they will eventually start building AP items. Kennen is hard to monkeykingspintowin.png because he can dash away with kennenlightningrush.png and the stun on his kennenpassive.png. So just play safe at early levels and kill him once you can take his poke.

DIFFICULTY: 4/10

He's squishy. When he jumps on you, just all in him and it should kill him. The thing that does suck in this match-up is that he knows when you monkeykingdecoy.png because of his passive, your decoy doesn't get isolated, a nasty interaction tbh. Just keep trades short and it will all be fine.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 7/10

I honestly don't know why people still find this the ultimate wukong counter. He has an advantage over you, that's true, since he has a lot of true vision with his blindmonkqone.png and blindmonkeone.png, so your monkeykingdecoy.png isn't that usefull, but you can win most trades and since they removed the attack-speed reduction from blindmonkeone.png. Your monkeykingnimbus.png now has actual harass potential vs lee sin and you can out-damage him at level 3, since you can wait with taking a point in in your monkeykingdecoy.png until level 4. The only thing that still makes this match-up annoying is the fact that when you use your monkeykingspintowin.png he can either ward hop away with his blindmonkwone.png or kick you back with his blindmonkrkick.png.

Lissandra

Medium

DIFFICULTY: 6/10

She has strong early harass and can shut you down easily in teamfights. If you use your monkeykingspintowin.png in a teamfight, she will lissandraR.png you and make you pretty useless for the rest of the fight. Try to focus her in fights so she gets no real chance to cast it. An easy way to counter this is buying a 3139_32.png to get rid of the stun. You are versus a very high damage AP opponent, but you should get a 3065_32.png/3102_32.pnginstead of a 3156_32.pngbecause you will lack HP otherwise. If you can bait her lissandraR.png on your monkeykingdecoy.png you'll be in a very good place.

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 4/10

Lulu top is annoying and not very common. She has great poke and zone potential, a slow, a speed buff, a shield and a insta-health gaining ultimate. Laning phase is not that bad if you start 2041.png because you can spam harass and heal from her poke. She is however impossible to kill with your monkeykingspintowin.png because of the slow, shield, speed buff and lulur.png I mentioned earlier. If you can save your monkeykingspintowin.png to burst down her last 200 hp, that's good, because if you can't you'll most likely end up wasting it. Also, pix can reveal you during your stealth, so keep that in mind while laning.

Annoying to lane against. He has good harass and a very annoying, long silence. Avoid standing near minions with alzaharmaleficvisions.png on them if they're about to die, as it will spread towards you. Try to bait his alzaharnethergrasp.png on your monkeykingdecoy.png. You can do this, since him using his alzaharnullzone.png means he usually follows up with that ult. Try to trade early, as he still is a mage and usually can't trade that well early.

DIFFICULTY: 7/10

Maokai is one of those toplaners that just there to provide CC and soak up damage. His early game is weak and he is extremely mana hungry, so harass him as often as possible. Later in the game he is just as useful as you in teamfights (which is very useful). Maokai does do decent damage when built AP, so if he goes for a 3027_32.png first, get a 3155_32.png to counter pretty much all damage he wants to do vs you. His maokaitrunkline.png can knock you out of monkeykingnimbus.png. After level 6 he can win any trade in lane.

DIFFICULTY: 4/10

I think Wukong is a decent master Yi counter. He is squishy, so he is never safe in lane vs you after level 6. His early game is actually pretty strong, but after level 6 he can't do much vs you. His alphastrike.png can be cancelled by using monkeykingdecoy.png as soon as he uses it, but it won't go on cooldown. He does however have more sustain than you. Nocturne has a spellshield in the form of nocturneshroudofdarkness.png which makes early trades pretty hard, as one ability is negated. You should punish Nocturnes early game, as he will start outtrading you sooner or later. He can only block one tick of your monkeykingspintowin.png, but it will deny a knock-up. Use monkeykingdecoy.png after you get hit by nocturneunspeakablehorror.png as he will have a harder time estimating the distance it takes before the 'connection' bewteen you two breaks and the fear gets negated.

DIFFICULTY: 8/10

Olaf is a very effective counter to wukong, because he has great early harass with olafaxethrowcast.png and because you can't really trade with him. His passive makes you lose all close trades. His olafragnarok.png prevents the knock up from your monkeykingspintowin.png, but if you use it while you're on him he doesn't get the time to activate it. He is pretty strong and has alot of damage. The only advantage you have is that he doesn't get stronger in lane at level 6. He can't do much about your monkeykingspintowin.png because his only hard CC is a stun for which he jumps on you, making him take way more damage in the process. Don't use your monkeykingdoubleattack.png when he has pantheonpassive.png up, because it is just a waste of mana, land one basic attack first. Her harass is stronger at level 1 but at level 2-5 she can't outtrade you. She is extremely mana hungry and you should take advantage of this. Once she is out of mana she's pretty fucked for lane, or she will have to base. Don't focus her in teamfights as she will most likely not use her poppydiplomaticimmunity.png on you. DIFFICULTY: 7.5/10

He is pretty tanky, and deals alot of damage. You might want to ask for an early gank, depending on how your lane goes. If you start to lose, just go roaming. When his fury bar is red, he is more likely to play aggresive. You can't really trade with him, especially pre-6, so even if your lane goes well, you might want a gank or two. His renektonreignofthetyrant.png counters your monkeykingspintowin.png in the same way Nasus' ult and lulu's ult counter yours. Rengar is a very strong laner, but not early. He will outsustain you and has a lot of burst, but you outdamage him early-game, by a landslide if he can't use his rengarQ.png twice, that is his only source of early damage. Just don't get hit by rengarE.png or he will fuck you up. Also, DON'T CHASE HIM IN THE BUSHES. He will just hop onto you 10 times and you're dead. If you can make him waste his cooldowns on your monkeykingdecoy.png you can jump on him and win trades even harder. It's never wise to fight him if he has 3 or more ferocity stacks, as he is able to get of the empowered abilities which hurt and make it pretty much impossible to win trades.

DIFFICULTY: 8/10

She is pretty squishy and has no real escape, but is very mobile. Try to all in her at level 6 and you should be fine. Really focus on not dying because you can't overpower her at level 6 when you do die. Try to play safe at earlier levels because she can combo very hard and has no mana to worry about. When possible, let her push and ask for ganks. If you're really falling behind, an early 1031_32.png will do wonders. A good Riven is incredibly difficult to lane against, so if she knows what she's doing, really start playing safe. Level 1 trades can be won, but don't even try level 2-5.

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 6/10

Rumbles early game is pretty weak, so you should harass him as often as possible. At level 4 Rumble starts scaling, so try to harass him down before that moment. In lane, don't eat free damage from his rumbleflamethrower.png and block his rumblegrenade.png with your monkeykingdecoy.png. Avoid walking through his equalizer in lane, even if it blocks your escape path. In teamfights, your number 1 priority is getting out of his rumblecarpetbomb.png. Wukong is pretty good at moving fights due to his own ultimate, so scare Rumble and his teammates away from the equalizer as it makes sure you and your team don't have to stand in it.

DIFFICULTY: 6/10

This is a match-up that will change 180 degrees at level 6. Pre 6, you will have a clear advantage because you will have higher damage and can jump on him for free, after 6 however, this match-up will become way harder. Swain will outsustain you by using swainmetamorphism.png without any problems and he can poke you down so you can't all in him. The problem is that if you do not destroy his lane pre-6 (which is not easy if he plays anywhere near safe), you will need to roam to be of any use. note: get a Doran's shield to survive his poke, cloth + 5 pots might work, but Doran's shield is defenitly the superior option

VS

Trundle

Medium

DIFFICULTY: 6/10

Trundle is an underrated champion because of his weird kit. At level 2 you have a huge advantage vs him, just because he can't say no when you jump on him with monkeykingnimbus.png and gain a lot of dominance in lane that way. Trundle is not very strong in 1v2's, so asking for roames and ganks leaves him as a vulnerable target and will most likely result in a kill. Also, you're better in teamfights than him, so help your team when laning phase ends. Don't fight him in his trundleW.png and also avoid fighting if he uses his trundleQ.png on you as he gains damage while you lose some. His trundleR.png steals your defences and does % health damage, so if you're the main tank on your team, he will most likely always try to use it on you.

VS

Tryndamere

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 5/10

He can extend trades longer than you want, has more sustain and has a better early-game than you. But you're way more usefull in teamfights than he is, so take advantage of that. He is very squishy, so if you can get some early harras and make him use his undyingrage.png for the damage of your monkeykingspintowin.png, you can kill him with one monkeykingnimbus.pngAlso, igniting him at the end of undyingrage.png pretty much always results in a kill.

START: 1029_32.png and 2003_32.png x 5

VS

Udyr

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 7/10

He has good early damage and 9/10 times will be built with both movement-speed and tanky items. Try to time your decoy for his udyrbearstance.png so you don't get stunned and harass him immidiately after. Start roaming when he gets too fast/tanky to kill, becasue you are more usefull in in teamfights than he is. Trying to 1v1 him is very hard because it is just unfair, 1 animal vs 4 animals.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 and 2004_32.png x 1

VS

Urgot

Medium

DIFFICULTY: 7/10

His poke is very strong and he can win trades at pretty much all stages of the laning-phase. You have no way to dodge his urgotplasmagrenade.png, which ensures that he will hit his urgotheatseekingmissile.png. His shield from urgotterrorcapacitoractive2.png can tank a lot of your damage in trades, your monkeykingdoubleattack.png can easily be blocked this way making you lose these trades pretty badly. Engaging on him for an all-in is also dificult since his urgotswap2.png can really screw you up. Avoid trading and try to live through his unforgiven poke. Play this lane very carefully.

START: 1054_32.png and 2003_32.png x 1

VS

Vayne

Easy

DIFFICULTY: 3/10

Vayne top is just a very poke heavy lane, similar to teemo. If you can survive the poke, kill her once you're level 6. Vaynes vaynecondemn.png is annoying because it knocks you back, so using monkeykingspintowin.png on her is a bit harder than usual. The best way to solve this problem is use monkeykingnimbus.png on her so she will use that vaynecondemn.png and re-engage afterwards. It has a significantly longer cooldown than monkeykingnimbus.png so when you monkeykingspintowin.png her on that second engage you'll probably get the kill.

START: 1054_32.png and 2003_32.png x 1

VS

Vladimir

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 5/10

The only way for you to kill this guy is to wait for him to use his vladimirsanguinepool.png and then immediatly after use your monkeykingspintowin.png, never use it if he still has his pool. Once again, rush a 3155_32.png, he's AP. You will outdamage him early, very hard, so get flask and spam harass. You will kill him after a few trades. Don't give him to much time to regen, always harass him. You really do need 14.png in this lane, if you don't want to lose 100% of your kill presure.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 4

VS

Volibear

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 5/10

He's pretty tanky. Bait his volibearq.png on your monkeykingdecoy.png. Disengage on his volibearr.png and ask for a gank before you try to kill him. Don't focus him in teamfights and keep up in farm. You won't kill him often since he is just very tanky and because of his volibearpassive.png he is almost impossible to just all-in.

VS

Warwick

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 5/10

You can win early trades, but he'll just sustain back up. He can shut down your monkeykingspintowin.png by using his infiniteduress.png and rooting you in place. Also something to keep in mind, once you're below 50% hp, your monkeykingdecoy.png is absolutely useless because of his bloodscent.png. This lane can go either way, but if you get some cooldown reduction and lifesteal, you can destroy him 1v1. Try to make him use his infiniteduress.png on your monkeykingdecoy.png.

VS

Wukong

Easy
DIFFICULTY: 12/10

If you follow this guide, you will kick his monkey booty right back to the jungle. Show him how it's done! Try to hit level 2 first and all-in him for first blood or atleast force him out of lane.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 and 2004_32.png x 1

OR

START: 1029_32.png and 2003_32.png x 4 and 2004_32.png x 1

note: The Wukong that outsustains the other will win this lane, so flask is the way to go. Cloth armor is also a very good option since monkeys are full ad, it is the better option if you are really new because it will help you with not dying earlygame

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 4/10

Xin needs to get ahead to do damage to you, so buy a lot of wards and you win. Yes it is that easy vs Xin as Wukong. He can't outdamage you, so he will have to build tanky and he will do even less damage. The thing that does suck about this lane is that he has sustain, so he might force you out of lane in the early game, but it isn't a real problem. He does have a nasty knock-back, so the kill pressure for you in lane is also quite low and he is pretty annoying to deal with in teamfights.

START: 2041_32.png and 2003_32.png x 3 2004_32.png x 1

VS

Yasuo

Easy
DIFFICULTY: 4/10

Annoying match-up because he has good poke. Wait until he has used his hurricane and monkeykingspintowin.png him immediately after. He is squishy so just repeat that and get fed. Also, try to bait his yasuoR.png on your monkeykingdecoy.png by letting your monkeykingdecoy.png get hit by his hurricane and by not getting hit yourself. Yasuo doesn't really get that stong until he has a 3087_32.png, so there is a small gap between you getting level 6 and him getting his shiv where you can absolutely abuse him.

VS

Yorick

Medium
DIFFICULTY: 6/10

Your lack of early sustain hurts like hell in a lane vs Yorick. A 'good' Yorick is a pain to deal with, but is this lane is not impossible to win. If you can harass him a lot at early levels and kill him before you both hit 6, you're set in lane, because once a yorick is behind he becomes pretty useless.

note: rush a 1053_32.png because you'll need the sustain in this lane harder than in any other lane, trust me.

VS

Zac

Medium

DIFFICULTY: 6/10

You are not really going to kill this guy. He has good sustain and ok damage and is one of the few champions in the game who gets away with building 100% tank. Don't all-in him just to pop his passive unless you can kill him afterwards, it's just not worth it. Try to roam a lot.

VS

Zed

Easy
DIFFICULTY: 3/10

This can be really easy, especially if the Zed doesn't have advanced mechanics. You can jump on him and he can't return more damage than you, so trading is very easy. He is squishy as hell so once you're level 6, jump on him and kill him. If he tries to zedR.png you just monkeykingdecoy.png when he and he will do pretty much no damage. You should not lose this match-up, just harass in lane and wait it out until level 6, as that's when you have the biggest adventage.

For the featured match-ups that can be seen above, this is what the difficulty scaling means:

1/10 - 3/10:  You should not lose these match-ups if you consider yourself a Wukong main.

4/10 - 5/10: These match-ups are either a skill match-up or slightly in your favor. Try to win 75%-90% of these match-ups.

6/10 - 7/10: These match-ups are either a skill match-up or slightly in your disfavor. Try to win 50%-60% of these match-ups, but if it is a little less, that's ok.

8/10 - 10/10: If you can win these match-ups, you did a very good job. be proud and clap your buttcheeks. If you don't win these match-ups, that's ok, because all of these champions are very effective counters to you. I pretty much always have trouble in these lanes. Luckily only one of Wukongs counters is played often (in toplane), being Riven, which is a winable lane if you can get some early snowball with ganks, outplays of simply surviving until level 6.

NOTE: All match-ups that have CRYSTELINE FLASK and 2003.png x 3  as recommended item can be swapped for the new 2033.png!!

Items' author notes (In-depth) Please read! Back to Top

addtext_com_MTgxMzAwMTA1MDY.jpg

NOTE: Items are always situational, but if you want one main build you can build in almost every game, build this in the order they're noted: 3142.png - 3074.png - 3111.png - 3071.png - 3742.png - 3102.png

Examples of situational items: 3068.png3036.png - 3065_32.png - 3143.png - 3026_32.png - 3156_32.png

I usually take 3 offensive and 2 defensive items, but if I still feel too squishy, I take 2 offensive and 3 defensive instead (the 6th item spot is for boots, as you'll always need those):

Offensive Core: 3074.png3071_32.png3142.png (3158_32.png3156_32.png3036.png)
Defensive Core: 3102_32.png3143.png3026_32.png (3111.png3065_32.png3742.png)

It depends on how the game goes if you eiter go for 3 damage items or for 3 defensive items (boots excluded).

When to buy what:

- Attack Damage: 3074.png3036.png3071.png3156.png
- Cooldown reduction: 3071.png3158.png3142.png3065.png (never forget cdr is capped at 40% or 45%)
- Armor:  3143.png3742.png3068.png (3047.png)

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A question i hear pretty often, why don't you just always start with 1055_32.png ? And the main reason is, Wukong does not auto attack enough for it to be cost efficient in my opinion. Starting longsword and 3 pots will give you 3 more ad and 230 more health because you can afford 2 extra pots at level 1. I think that will give you more damage and sustain. It will also get you to your 3044.png3134.png or 3077_32.png faster.

MORE IN-DEPTH INFO ON 3158_32.png DOWN BELOW
3158_64.png - My prefered boots on Wukong, he is very strong with cdr since he's an ad-caster with long cooldowns

3111_64.png - Must have vs insane CC comps, but since the 2138_32.png also gives tenacity, 3111_32.png aren't as necessary. They are however still important vs teams that have even 1 or 2 hard CC spells.
A team to buy 3111.png against: 57.png32.png134.png222.png89.png

3047_64.png - Good vs AA heavy champs, helps a lot vs fed ADC's, but they don't scale well compared to most boots and they are (in my oppinion) the weakest boots in most scenarios, as they also have the lowest winrate of all boots.
 A team to buy 3047.png against: 92.png35.png91.png119.png412.png
3009_64.png - Extra movement-speed is very nice on Wukong, so is the slow-redcution. Also strong in teamfights

WHY NO 3117_64.png - They are the slowest boots in teamfights, which is really bad for Wukong, so dont pick these (not even if you're jungling)

WHY NO 3006_64.png - Wukong is an ad-caster, so he benefits more from cdr than attack-speed

TL;DR on boots:

3158_64.png are easier for carrying in solo-queue, 3111_64.png are just a must have versus hard CC teams, as it is better to have quality monkeykingspintowin.png over quantity monkeykingspintowin.png in teamfights.
Champion that you'll need 3111_32.png against are champs like 32_64.png25_64.png85_64.png1_64.png113_64.png, champions that have insane (chain) CC and thus can shut you down in teamfights.

swifties.png

For anyone wondering, 3009_32.png do have the highest winrate on him at an insane 75%+. So even though they aren't one of my personal favorites and I rarely build them myself, they are very very strong on him.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

About DPS Wukong, yes I have actually tried it and even though I didn't do bad, I just did not have the AD to make myself useful in teamfights. As you can see we also ended up losing the game. I am not saying DPS Wukong is bad, it's just way, way worse than AD Bruiser Wukong. Your monkeykingnimbus.png steroid should provide you with enough attack-speed.

3078.png3004_32.png3153_32.png3087_32.png3046_32.png3031_32.png3172_32.png3508_32.png3190_32.png3512_32.png3078.png

Ok, do you see those items? Yeah? Well DON'T get those on Wukong.

These items can be seperated into 3 sections:

Attack-speed/Crit: not good on Wukong, he is an AD-caster, Items with high AD-scaling are way better on him. Critrate goes to waste since he doesn't auto-attack much and his abilities don't crit
Bad tank items: Not bad in general, just very bad on Wukong for whatever reason
Mana: I don't think any of these items are good mana items on Wukong (and their other utitlity isn't that amazing either), the only viable one's would be 3110_32.png and 3800_32.png (and maybe 3025.png, I don't know yet. Still experimenting with pre-season myself).

I don't really feel like these items need much explanation on why they're not good on Wukong, they just don't
work on him

3078.png  Trinity force section (why you don't buy it)

Don't build it, pls

There are multiple reasons why Wukong is not good with trinity force, but first i'm going to talk about why people build it on him. Just like with champions that are good with3078.png like 39.png24.png105.png81.png75.png78.png (Fizz and Ezreal both AD ofcourse), Wukong has a spell that is also an auto-attack, being monkeykingdoubleattack.png. I think this is the main reason people buy it on Wukong, as it usually synergises well with champions that have that type of ability. Why is that not the case with Wukong? Well, main reason would be that Wukongs monkeykingspintowin.png makes it so that he can't auto-attack for the duration of it, wasting the entire item as it is only beneficial when auto-attacking. The 2nd reason is that 3733 gold is very expensive for an item that doesn't offer much more than a stronger monkeykingdoubleattack.png and a stronger auto-attack after your monkeykingnimbus.png. The final reason I think it's not good on Wukong, is because Wukong has amazing AD-scaling, and 3078.png only gives 30 AD, so items that actually give AD would be way better offensive items for Wukong. (3074.png3071.png3142.png3036.png3156.png). With the season 6 changes it got better on him, now giving 20% CDR, but it is still not worth the gold imo.

IN-DEPTH ON THE CORE ITEMS:

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

3071_64.png Black Cleaver section

Build as 2nd, 3rd or 4th item

And now I will be talking about why I think  3071_32.png is the best item for Wukong. Flat AD, CDR, Armor pen passive, Rage passive (movement-speed) and HP are the most important stats on Wukong, and black cleaver gives you all of those stats. Another reason is because Wukongs monkeykingspintowin.png does damage every 0.25 seconds, meaning it will stack 3071_32.png's passive pretty much instantly giving you insane DPS in teamfights with your ult. I think this item is beyond core on Wukong, even though I sometimes don't find room to fit it in my build myself (because I need defensive stats or w/e my excuses might be). As I said earlier, try building it every game. Wukong has an insane 67% (!!!) winrate with this item, making him the 'best' champion for building black cleaver. So build it, really, just do it.

CLEAVER.OP.png
67% WINRATE WITH 3071_32.png, SO JUST BUILD IT!

 3074.png Ravenous Hydra section

Build as 1st item

If you have been paying a little attention while viewing this guide, you know that the 3074.png is the other must have item on Wukong for every game you play. The reason for this is that the hydra gives you all the things you need because Wukong does not have them built into his kit. These things are Waveclear, AoE Physical Damage, Health regen and Lifesteal, while it also gives the huge amount of Flat AD and the active which really helps in trades and it also provides some extra waveclear. Personally I think this should be the first item you finish 95% of your games, just because it is a huge early power spike. And just like with the 3071_32.png, Wukong is the 'best' champion in the game to build this item, as he has the highest win-rate with it stading at a whopping 63% (!!!). There is only one champion that even comes close to such a win-rate with this item, being 59_64.png at around 60%, as you can see.

hydra.ook.broken.png
63% WINRATE WITH 3074.png, SO JUST BUILD IT (as well)!

3142.png Youmuu's Ghostblade section

Build as 1st or 2nd item (Best if rushed)

The season 6 changes to ghostblade really favored Wukong a lot. They removed the crit-rate, which is nearly useless on Wukong, and instead gave the item 35 bonus AD. This change in my opinion finally made it a very viable option, instead of just being a decent engage tool. The buildpath of 3134.png and 3133.png might be a bit weaker than the Brutaliser , it's still a buildpath that kinda favors him as both items just give stats Wukong benefits a lot from. The active which gives attack- and movementspeed is also really great on Wukong. It really enhances his 1v1 power (which is pretty decent to begin with). The item also makes it a lot easier to just jump on their backline. It's especially great if the enemy team doesn't have more than one dedicaded tank.

goddasmooi.png
SHIT'S GOOD, AND THE WINRATE ISN'T TOO SHABBY EITHER! (63%)

3143.png Randuins Omen section (3068.png)

Build as 3rd or 4th item

Ok, the first defensive item I absolutely adore on Wukong is 3143.png. This item gives you HP and Armor, an Attack-speed de-buff and an AoE Slow, stats you'll need vs any team that actually follows the meta (as they'll atleast have an ADC). The counterpart of the 3143.png cape is the 3068.png, which is also extremely strong on Wukong providing more HP and Armor and some AoE magic damage while losing out on the attack-speed slow and slow active. I prefer Randuins Omen, but both are fine and I actually used to prefer sunfire cape for more than a season. Sunfire cape has a 56% winrate on Wukong, while Randuins Omen is at about 55%, so there barely is a difference. You could say it comes down to personal preference more than anything, so try it for yourself.

YOU'LL MOST LIKELY NEED ATLEAST ONE, TAKE YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCE

3742.png Dead man's plate section

Build as 3rd or 4th item

Dead man's plate is a very good item right now, it is great for tanks and bruisers (Wukong being one of the latter). It gives very cost efficient (126.55% with the passive) tank stats and a very good passive. Wukong benefits a lot from the bonus movement-speed as it really helps with engaging teamfights. The auto-attack proc of the passive does NOT PROC FROM monkeykingdoubleattack.png!! This is actually a really important thing to keep in mind. This is good and bad at the same time. When Going for a teamfight, engaging without the use of an auto-attack will allow you to keep the momentum, even if you use your monkeykingdoubleattack.png. This item also provides a single target slow (not as good as 3143.png, but still good to have more CC than just your ultimate). I think this item is really good on Wukong, not a must buy, but definitly one of the better armor items for him.

VERY GOOD ITEM, JUST TAKE A LOOK AT THIS THOUGH:

In general: 3143.png vs auto-attackers (Crit) (51.png23.png39.png) and 3742.png vs AD-casters (121.png110.png126.png)

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

3035.png Last Whisper section (3036.png3033.png)

Build as 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th item

Last Whisper is an amazing item on any AD damage source, and Wukong is no exeption. Last Whisper gives Flat AD and Bonus Armor Ignore (35%) (which goes up to 40% when upgraded) for a very cheap price. This item is what turns Wukong into the lategame beast that he is. If you combine 3035.png with 3071_32.png and the armor pen from your monkeykingdoubleattack.png, you have 100% (!) (bonus) armor pen, making it possible for you to wreck the tankiest tanks and blow up the strongest carries. There are 0 reasons to not buy this item on Wukong as it is very cheap and just so strong. Last whisper has the same winrate as 3071_32.png on Wukong, sitting at 67% (!!!), this item is core in the sense that you should try to get it every game, but if you feel like you have enough damage and need to focus more on being a tank, do that, as some games just require you to be more tanky instead of being a heavy damage dealer. You can get an early 3035.png (2nd or 3rd item) if you're doing really good in lane and just want to focus on doing as much AoE damage as possible.

You usually would want to upgrade it into 3036.png unless you need the grievous wounds vs like 36.png or 106.png, take 3033.png against them.

 lastgwisper.png
THIS ITEM IS SO GOOD ON WUKONG, BUILD IT! 67% WINRATE

3158_64.png Ionian boots of Lucidity section (3111_32.png)

Build between 2nd and 3rd item (get some 1001_32.png very early)

Ok, probably the most controversial part of my guide, these boots right here. Most people prefer 3111_32.png or 3009_32.png which are both very great boots on Wukong, and in some situations (vs CC) they are the better choice, but for most of my Wukong games, I pick up the CDR boots. Why? Because CDR is insanely broken on Wukong. Wukong is a hard-hitting spellcaster with an extremely high impact ultimate. The more often his abilities are up, the more damage, CC and utility he brings to his team. The cooldown of his ultimate with max CDR at stage 3 (level 16+) is only 60 seconds, meaning it's up for almost every fight. After doing some research I came to the conclusion that the winrate of these boots on Wukong is around 63%, which is not bad at all. If you have more experience with Wukong and are doubting this, all I can say is try for yourself, they're really good on him. If you really don't need the extra cdr, 3111_32.png are always good boots to pick up on him.

CDR ON WUKONG IS BROKEN, BUILD THIS ONE TOO!

Build as 4th or 5th item ( 3211_32.png shoud be built mid game vs a lot of magic damage/fed mage)

These 2 items are my main magic resist items on Wukong. These items are very similar, both giving Magic Resist, HP and Health regen, but the similarities end there. The 3065_32.png gives you Increased Lifesteal + Health regen (making it synergised with 3074.png) and 10% Cooldown reduction, where the 3102_32.png gives you a Spellshield which can block 1 enemy ability. If you need magic resist I recommend taking one of these most of the time, as they also give hp and other forms of utility, making them good defensive items. The winrate of both items is about 56% on Wukong, making them solid items to pick up for him.

ONCE AGAIN, PERSONAL PREFERENCE, VERY SITUATIONAL

3156_64.png Maw of Malmortius section

Build as 4th or 5th item (rush 3155_32.png when facing a mage in lane)

Maw of Malmortius is an item that is made for bruisers, so it is strong on Wukong. Maw gives Flat AD, Magic resist, Armor pen. and a Magic Shield. This item also has a second passive, giving you bonus AD, according to how much % HP you're missing. This second passive is what makes this so strong on Wukong as he just dives into the enemy time, and since you're not building full tank, they'll focus you. This will make you do even more damage because of that giving you a stunning 95 AD if you're at 30% HP or lower. The magic shield really helps vs bursty mages that deal magic damage like 38_64.png45_64.png103_64.png. This item is pretty situational, but also very strong. Wukong has a 64% winrate with this item, which once again is very high.

MAW.png
VERY SITUATION BASED, BUT IS VERY STRONG ON HIM

3026_64.png Guardian Angel section

Build as 6th item

Guardian angel is a fantastic item, once every 5 minutes, since it has one of the best passives from all items in the league. Guardian angel gives you Armor, Magic resist and a revive. This item is great for the games where you are the carry, since people rarely focus bruisers if they also have a guardian angel. And even if they do focus you, you'll respawn anyway, making it possible for you to escape or put out a bit more damage before dying. If this items' passive is on cooldown, I suggest you sell it for another item, to (if it is needed) buy it back 5 minutes later, since without the passive, it's one of the least cost efficient items in the game. Wukong has a 56% winrate with this item.

YOU CAN DIE TWICE, HOW COOL IS THAT?

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

3083.png Warmog's Armor section (3053.png)

Build as 4th, 5th or 6th item

3083.png is just a great item if you need a lot of HP. And while the out-of-combat health regen passive might be neat, that's not the reason you buy this item. You buy it when all you need is just a shitload of HP. This can be against 2 things: True damage or so much mixed damage that stacking armor and MR would take too long and be too expensive. This item isn't core as in 'you should buy it every game', but it can be a lifesaver against certain teams. The new 3053.png is a good replacement for Warmogs on Wukong. You'll usually get focussed when you go in to monkeykingspintowin.png, so the extra unexpected survivability will come in handy. Both are good.

SO MUCH HP, SCALES WELL WITH monkeykingpassive.png

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

3812.png Death's Dance section

Build as 3rd or 4th item

Pretty good damage item for Wukong. It is a good replacement for 3074.png if you want some sustain in your games. Experiment which one you like more. I would personally think that 3074.png is still slightly better, since the passive of 3812.pngdoesn't work fully on AoE abilties like monkeykingspintowin.png.

IT SEEMS TO BE PRETTY GOOD AFTER THE BUFFS

 2138_64.png Elixir of Iron section

Get whenever you need them, always get when full build

The elixir of iron is very strong on Wukong especially if you get 3158_32.png, because you really need Tenacity on Wukong as CC destroys your teamfight potential. Elixir of Iron gives you Tenacity, Slow resistance, a size increase and the 'path of Iron'. This means you'll be a lot more resistant to all forms of CC (slows especially). This elixir does stack with the passives from 3111_32.png and 3009_32.png, so it is still the best elixir to get when you have one of those boots, but it is very core if you get 3158_32.png. You shouldn't wait until you're full build before getting this, it is good to always have one in your inventory after level 9, as it just is very strong for only 400g per purchase. Don't waste it, just wait for the teamfight to start before using it, or use it before engaging on a strong CC opponent.

HUGE MIDDLE FINGER TO HARD CC COMPS, GET IT WHEN THEY HAVE GOOD CC BUT YOU DONT NEED 3111_32.png

1036_64.png2033.png1029_64.png1054_64.png1001_64.png Starting Items section (2003_32.png)

Get these at the start of the game (duhh)

1036_32.png and 2003_32.png x3: This is the most common start in easy match-ups for Wukong top-lane. This item gives nice early ad and enough money to buy a few pots. This item is a risky start, but is very good to get first blood in easy lanes that won't harass much. This item is good for getting to an early 3134.png or 3077_32.png. I don't take this start that often as it can easily backfire on you since you don't have real sustain.

2033.png: The safest and 'best' start for Wukong, also the most populair. This start gives you some much needed sustain and allows you so use spells a lot more freedom since you have a bit of mana-sustain as well. This start helps you with early trades and just laning in general as you can just refill flask by basing. This is by far the safest start (with a few exeptions) and i take this in most of my ranked games. The only thing that sucks about this start is that you will fall slightly behind itemwise.

1029_32.png and 2003_32.png x 4: This is the start you need to take in the hard AD match-ups that will absolutely destroy you in lane (122_64.png92_64.png2_64.png80_64.png64_64.png23_64.png58_64.png114_64.png). This is just to make sure you can survive early laning, as these champions just shit on you (early). You need to play these lanes very carefully and just take the abuse, in most cases until you're level 6.

1054_32.png and 2003_32.png x 1: Take this start vs hard poke champs. You can most of the times also take 2033.png to these lanes, but vs hard auto-attackers especially it's probably the better choice.

1001_32.png and 2003_32.png x 4: Take these to avoid skill-shot heavy champions. This start isn't the best on Wukong, but if you think you can dodge most of the skill-shots from your opponent, feel free to take these.

3074.png3071_64.png3142.png Ultimate Core section

These three items right here, are what makes Wukong the monster that he is. I have made a section for each of these, but they deserve more attention, as these three items together are just very, very powerful. The combination of these items gives you so much offensive presence that you can become a carry for you team. These 3, boots and 2 tank items are pretty much the ideal scenario in my opinion.

Pros and Cons of Wukong (why take Wukong) Back to Top

addtext_com_MTc0OTMyMTQ4Mjg.png

Wukong is my favorite champion in the League. I think he is very strong and viable, but he lacks a lot of things that make current meta top-laners very strong. So I decided to list some pros and cons of Wukong:

LANE:

   PROS for lane:

  • Snowballs hard
  • Has pretty strong trades that are easy to execute
  • Can disengage pretty decently with monkeykingdecoy.png
  • Can bully to infinity with some snowballing
  • Very flexible build path
  • Good at setting up ganks at level 6
  • Can both push and farm under tower pretty effectively
  • Can easily harass with random monkeykingdoubleattack.png as it extends his auto-attack range
  • Has good roames (in case of harder lanes)

   CONS for lane:

  • Gets snowballed on pretty easily (messing up early is usually a very big problem)
  • No natural sustain
  • No CC pre-6
  • Pretty vulnerable to ganks (especially from non-skillshotdependent junglers)
  • Can easily be builied by strong laners
  • Gets shut down by early armor
  • Melee

TEAMFIGHTS:

   PROS for teamfights:

  • Amazing teamfight ultimate
  • Great AoE damage
  • Good AoE CC
  • Great initiation
  • Good at bursting down AD/AP carries
  • Hard to kill due to passive and bruiser build
  • Can easily flank backlines
  • Great synergy with other teamfight champions (more about that later)
  • Your 3071_32.png let's other AD champions do more damage

   CONS for teamfights:
  • Relies a lot on follow up from teammates
  • Can't really disengage after fully committing
  • CC can ruin engage

Why take Wukong?

Wukong has been one of the strongest champions in the game for a very long time, even though he isn't concidered OP or anything like that. He fits into most teamcomps because he provides: Damage, Tankiness, Engage and CC. The fact that he fits with pretty much all teams makes him a very strong champion for solo queue. This also makes him a pretty good champion to main as you can pick him for most games. It is also nice that he can cover 3 lanes: top, mid and jungle. This is also pretty useful if you want to actively start maining him. He also isn't the hardest champion to learn; easy to learn, not that hard to master. This is because all you need to know, is when and how to engage teamfights and how to use your monkeykingdecoy.png.

Also a pro to Wukong is that he doesn't have many hard counters, and they don't get played ofter either. This means you'll usually have a safe lane where you can start snowballing, giving you an easier time with carrying.

Another good thing about Wukong is that people sometimes underestimate how strong he actually is. Especially early-game. Wukong is strong at all stages of the game, making sure you can carry pretty much every game if you get snowballing. He also has a pretty high winrate, usually somewhere between 52% and 55%, a very solid winrate. This alone shows that he is a pretty strong solo queue champion. It sometimes even is (one of) the highest in the game.

Ability Overview Back to Top

addtext_com_MTgxNjM1MTA1MzM.png

A.jpg - Stone skin (P)

Stone skin gives Wukong bonus armor and magic resist for each enemy champion within a 1400 radius. The amount of armor and magic resist gained is 4 at level 1, 6 at level 7 and 8 at level 13. This is a great passive. This passive gives you the tank stats you need. During laning phase this isn't much of a passive, but in teamfight it really adds up, granting you 40 armor and magic resist if their entire team is there after level 13. This will keep you alive in fights, even when building mostly damage. This passive naturally works well with stacking HP.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

AA.jpg - Crushing blow (Q) 2, 8, 10, 12, 13                                                CD: 9/8/7/6/5

Crushing blow gives wukong 125 bonus range on his next auto-attack (300 total). This next auto-attack will do bonus physical damage and reduce the enemies armor by 10/15/20/25/30% for 3 seconds. This ability is great for lane, but probably falls of the hardest from all of wukongs abilities because you need to combo as fast as possible so you can burst carries. This ability is so good in lane because of the bonus range and armor pen. If you can use this ability without closing the gap with monkeykingnimbus.png you can win most trades. You can also use it to harass back when they jump on you and disengage immediately.  This ability is an auto-attack reset so try to use it immediately after landing a basic attack for more damage output. ALWAYS use this ability before using your monkeykingspintowin.png because the armor debuff will give you a very significant damage increase (even if it isn't maxed yet).

AAA.jpg - Decoy (W) 3, 14, 15, 17, 18                                                             CD: 18/16/14/12/10

Activating decoy places a clone at the location of Wukong while Wukong himself becomes invisible for 1.5 seconds. After those 1.5 seconds the clone disapears and does AoE damage around him. This is an amazing ability at each stage at the game. It brings insane utility and CAN BLOCK EVERY SINGLE-TARGET SPELL IN THE GAME. I can't tell you how amazing it feels seeing 3 ultimates being wasted on a decoy. Needless to say this spell can be gamechanging. In lane it is also great, giving you an escape and helping in trades. Making your enemy focus the decoy and taking damage really gives you that extra trade potential. This ability also drops minion agro, which is very important to come out on top when forcing early trades. Using this ability in the fog of war allows you to get closer to enemies while you're still invisible. This is very important for roaming/ganking, as it really catches your opponents off guard since they can never see it coming (assuming it isn't warded).

AAAAAAA.jpg - Nimbus strike (E) 1, 4, 5, 7, 9                                                         CD: 8/8/8/8/8

Nimbus strike makes Wukong dash to a target enemy while sending out 2 images of him self to attack other nearby enemies. This ability does physical damage and grants Wukong 30/35/40/45/50% attack-speed for 4 seconds. This is Wukongs main damage source in trades and is a great initiation ability. It's unpredictable, never misses and does a crapton of damage. It is a great gapcloser to jump on the enemies and burst them with your full combo. Remember that using this on enemies/enemy minions that are near the enemy you want to hit will let the clone do the damage for you if they're close enough to that other enemy/enemy minion. This helps if the enemy you want to damage while they're just out of range of this ability. This might seem hard, but it's very easy to pull of if the scenario is there.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.jpg  Cyclone (R) 6, 11, 16                                                                           CD: 120/105/90

Cyclone, the mother of scaling abilities in the league of legends. Cyclone makes Wukong spin, giving him a huge AoE knock-up for 4 seconds. Every 0.5 seconds Wukong gains 5% movement-speed. This ultimate is amazing, it probably is tied for best ultimate in the game for teamfights together with orianna's orianadetonatecommand.png. The scaling on this ultimate is insane. The damage on it is 20/110/200 base damage (+110% AD) per second, which means the total damage this ultimate can do is 80/440/800 (+440% AD) physical damage. Yes, that is a lot, so use this ult wisely: blow up carries and win teamfights! This ultimate works insanely well with 3071_32.png because it does damage every 0.25 seconds meaning the passive will be fully stacked after hitting someone for 1.5 seconds or earlier if you for example already hit them with your monkeykingdoubleattack.png or monkeykingnimbus.png.

Ability Combo's Back to Top

addtext_com_MTgxNzI5MTA1NDE.jpg

This section is inspired by Tiko's Talon guide

This section is about all the spell combo's that you should do with Wukong:

PRE 6:
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

AA -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png -> monkeykingnimbus.png -> AA -> AA -> AA...

This combo gives you the most damage in early trades. The way this trade works is walking into melee range for an auto-attack, then resetting you auto-attack timer with monkeykingdoubleattack.png, for the bonus damage and armor penetration. After that you close the gap with monkeykingnimbus.png and auto-attack away with your attack-speed buff.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

monkeykingnimbus.png -> AA -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png -> monkeykingdecoy.png

Once again abuse the fact that monkeykingdoubleattack.png is an auto-attack reset. The monkeykingdecoy.png at the end is optional, but it can save you from a lot of harass if you time it correctly (it drops minion agro as well).
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

AA -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png

Just for a quick trade in lane. If you can get of a free auto-attack when your opponent (for example) comes to farm, they'll retreat afterwards, but since you monkeykingdoubleattack.png extends your auto-attack range, you'll be able to hit the enemy with that too.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

POST 6 (and post tiamat):
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

monkeykingdecoy.png -> monkeykingnimbus.png -> AA -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png -> 3077.png -> monkeykingspintowin.png

This is your combo to assassinate someone after you've hit level 6. Use monkeykingdecoy.png for the stealth so they won't see you coming, monkeykingnimbus.png to close the gap, auto-attack + monkeykingdoubleattack.png for a quick burst of damage and armor pen, use your 3077.png  for a bit of extra damage and finish of with a juicy monkeykingspintowin.png for great damage. Doing the combo this way allows your spells to come of cooldown during your monkeykingspintowin.png, as that spell lasts for 4 seconds.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

monkeykingnimbus.png -> monkeykingdecoy.png -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png -> monkeykingspintowin.png

A sneaky combo. Use monkeykingnimbus.png to attack an enemy and use monkeykingdecoy.png afterwards to confuse them, making them waste cooldowns or making them think you disengaged. After that, use monkeykingdoubleattack.png and follow quickly with a monkeykingspintowin.png, this gives your opponent no time to react while you put out a lot of damage.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

AA -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png -> monkeykingnimbus.png -> 3077.png

A quick harass combo, you can use monkeykingspintowin.png if you are going for a kill, but this is just a general combo for quick harass on your opponent.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

4.png -> monkeykingnimbus.png

If you're out of range of hitting your monkeykingnimbus.png, you can obviously use flash to get closer to your enemy, so you're in range for monkeykingnimbus.png.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

monkeykingdecoy.png -> 4.png

Using monkeykingdecoy.png before flashing will make your enemy over-predict your movement or just flat out lose you because you travel such a huge distance while you're stealth. Your enemy will most likely not know that you flashed which also gives you a small advantage. This trick works even better if you flash over a wall as the enemy won't be able to immediately follow you.

Power Spikes Back to Top

addtext_com_MTgxOTM1MTA4MjU.jpg

Level 2: Wukong's level 2 is one of the strongest in the game because his simple monkeykingnimbus.png -> AA -> monkeykingdoubleattack.png combo has insane burst at early levels, compared to pretty much every other champion. He can win almost all trades against opponents in lane, as he also gains a small armor pen. bonus (10%) and a pretty nice attack-speed boost (30%) to continue attacking his opponent.

Level 6: Just like most champions, Wukong becomes a lot stronger at level 6, but since Wukong's ultimate actually has such a high impact on the game, since it gives him huge AoE damage and finally a form of CC. It really enhances his burst and power in skirmishes/teamfights. Your roaming potential also becomes pretty huge.

Level 11: Level 11 is Wukong's biggest power spike, as the base damage on his ult goes from 20/s to 110/s, a huge increase of 90 base damage/s, or a total increase of 440 base damage. This makes Wukong's ultimate outclass pretty much any other at level 11, as the potential damage is absolutely insane.

Level 13: At level 13, you have maxed out monkeykingnimbus.png and monkeykingdoubleattack.png, so your 2 damage spells are on their peak base damage wise. The cooldown on monkeykingdoubleattack.png is also only 5 seconds (CDR not even taken into consideration). Your passive monkeykingpassive.png also gains it's final boost, making you a lot tankier in teamfights.

Level 16: Wukong's final power spike is level 16, because his ultimate gains another 90 base damage/s, putting the total at 200 base damage/s, or 800 base damage.

godzamme.png

As you can see, the longer a game lasts, the higher Wukong's winrate. However, after the 40 minute mark, the moment most people get to full build (or atleast somewhat close), Wukong's winrate dips. The reason for this is because Wukong's ultimate is damage over time, which usually falls of pretty hard late. All I am trying to show here is that Wukong only get stronger until level 16, after which he starts falling off. Keep this in mind when playing him, try to end before 40 minutes, as it is hard to still carry a game if you have already fallen off a little.

Playstyle Back to Top

Artist: Skyserpent

Early Game:

Early game you want farm only using abilities when there is no other way of getting the CS, because Wukong is very mana hungry early game. It depends on your lane opponent if you can harass or not and from what level you gain an advantage. The easiest way to trade is monkeykingnimbus.png - AA - monkeykingdoubleattack.png (- monkeykingdecoy.png). You can ofcourse keep attacking if you want or save your monkeykingdecoy.png if they don't attack you back. Another way to trade is AA - monkeykingdoubleattack.png - monkeykingnimbus.png - AA - AA - AA... This is the most effective trade because you shred their armor and make more use of monkeykingnimbus.png attack speed buff. This trade is however a bit more tricky because you have to walk in melee range, rather than using you gapcloser to, well, close the gap. monkeykingdecoy.png is an important spell to have off cooldown before engaging. The enemy might outdamage you, or maybe the enemy jungler is nearby, so never harass with your monkeykingdecoy.png on cd. Force level 2 fights on Wukong in lanes where you don't have an early-game disadvantage (so not vs 80_64.png92_64.png64_64.png) because in lanes that are even or where you have the advantage, you shouldn't really lose that fight if you do either of the combo's mentioned above.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mid Game:

I consider a league match mid game once you hit level 6-8, because that's when laning becomes less important and you start going for objectives. I always try to get my tower around these levels so I can help lanes that are behind. If all lanes are going fine, just keep pushing. I usually roam mid a few times, especially if my lane is rough or if they have a squishy mage mid. If you want to all in a single person mid game, your combo is probably something like this: monkeykingnimbus.png - (AA) - monkeykingdoubleattack.png - monkeykingspintowin.png. If you need to do it fast, because the champ you all in has CC for example, leave the extra auto attack out of the combo, just so you can do it fast. Just make sure you don't waste your monkeykingspintowin.png because the cooldown is pretty long mid game.

NOTE: Wukong is not your standard 'island toplaner' that would not leave his lane until the 30 minute mark or someone who just bullies and farms. Wukong is a champion that needs some snowballing to be effective, and even if you're able to get snowballing in lane, start roaming: Make a tp play botlane or just run mid or force a skirmish in the jungle, anything that leads to a teamfight is what Wukong wants. It's the best way to get back from being behind or push your advantage for the rest of your team.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Late Game:

Late game for me is when the first inhibitor dies and later. This is usually when you have most of your core items and when it's is pretty much just one big teamfight. You are very important for your team every teamfight and because you have so much cdr you have your monkeykingspintowin.png for every teamfight. Always focus AP and AD carries and try to make them use cooldowns on your monkeykingdecoy.png just before the teamfight starts. Keep your team safe and use your monkeykingspintowin.png to it's full potential, even if you die. You do need to keep in mind, once you ult, don't force it to work if you blew it. If you overextend just so you atleast do some damage with it, there is a big chance of you just dying. Do not ult just one person, unless they're the fed carry, just wait for a moment where they're grouped together and take your chance. Don't ult tanks unless you are getting a huge advantage that way (for example: the enemy jungler dies that way and can't steal dragon/baron). Just try to make your monkeykingspintowin.png as impactful as possible!

Yellow: Places where you can use your 3074.png's active to jump to the adjacent camps (Blue, Raptors and Gromp). This ofcourse also works with 3077_32.png. The way this works is that you attack the camp with the hydra, they will start attacking you back, giving you vision of the camp which allows you to jump to that camp with nimbus strike (E). You can use a 3340_32.png to jump to all jungle camps, but these are the only 2 that work with the hydra as far as I know. This is a useful shortcut and might be a lifesaving escape in some situations.

This video includes some tricks for Wukong, including the 'tiamat trick' and another very OP trick featuring 59.png's jarvanivcataclysm.png. Definitly worth watching.

Green: Places you need to green ward/trinket ward when on red side (river entrance and your tri-bush)

Blue: Places you need to green ward/trinket ward when on blue side (river entrance)

Pink: Place you need to pink ward when on either side (baron)

Purple: Places you need to pink ward when on red side (your red-buff)

White-ish yellow: Places you need to pink ward when on blue side (your tri-bush)

note: You can ofcourse only place one pink ward at a time, only ward baron pit once baron becomes a seriously contested objective!

Synergy for Wukong, more counters and lane swapping Back to Top

addtext_com_MTgwNTAxMTA0NDg.jpg

Wukong is a champion that excels at teamfights, so it's important that your team works pretty well with your kit, this includes champions with AoE damage, hard CC, AoE CC, hard engage, tanks, movementspeed bonus. Here I've some of the champions that he has the most synergy with.
  • 157_64.png: Every Yasuo player knows the joy of having a Malphite or Wukong on the allied side. Yasuo's yasuoR.png is an ultimate that can only be activated if an enemy champion is knocked up, and yes, your monkeykingspintowin.png is indeed perfect for this, especially because you can knock up the entire enemy team in one monkeykingspintowin.png if they're crowded together.
  • 61_64.png: Orianna provides alot of CC with her ult orianadetonatecommand.png and this allows Wukong to knock up atleast 3 people if the ult is done correctly. Ori and Wu can wreck entire teams in mere seconds just because of their ults. If she puts her ball on you with orianaredactcommand.png just go ham, there is no way you will lose the teamfight if Orianna can ult afterwards.
  • 55_64.png/3_64.png: Your monkeykingspintowin.png provides some nice AoE CC, so champions as Galio and Katarina, who also have AoE ults, but need some peel to be effective, can get some very nice ults of while you're knocking everyone up. You can also use your ult after Galio's, but getting a good galioidolofdurand.png of as a Galio is pretty hard, since he can't engage himself and thus needs CC, for which you are very useful to him.
  • 32_64.png: Using your monkeykingspintowin.png after Amumu's curseofthesadmummy.png will give a nice wombo combo since you should be able to knock up a full team. Let him engage first and come after him, wait for his ult before using yours.
  • 150.png: The combination of a gnarR.png against the wall, followed up by a monkeykingspintowin.png is absolutely devestating. Gnar and Wukong are 2 of my favorite champions in the game and I have pulled of this combo, multiple times, with either champ. It isn't the hardest combo to do, but boy is it strong and satisfying.
  • 59_64.pngjarvanivcataclysm.png works very well with monkeykingspintowin.png, but it's hard to pull of compared to what's listed above. It can however, be very rewarding when done correctly. The more people he catches with jarvanivcataclysm.png the more damage you can do and the more likely you are to win the teamfight, especially if he catches some carries.
  • 89_64.png: Leona is one of the strongest supports teamfight wise. Her engages are very strong because she can jump in with leonazenithblade.png, stun with leonashieldofdaybreak.png and leonasolarflare.png, and she won't even die because her leonasolarbarrier.png makes her insanely tanky. Following up when she goes all in will win you most teamfights, especially when you're ahead
  • 54_64.png: Malphites ufslash.png has basically the same use as your monkeykingnimbus.png and monkeykingspintowin.png combined: engaging a teamfight and knocking up the enemy team, doing less damage than you in the process, but giving enemies less time to react. The thing that is great about having him on you team is that you can let him go in first, knocking everyone up, follow up with your own combo for huge chain CC and win a lot of fights like that.
  • 15.png: Nothing is more fun than hearing a Sivir pop her onthehunt.png and knowing that you can go full ham in a teamfight while running at them with insane speed. This synergy obviously comes from making it a lot easier to engage in a teamfight.
  • 113_64.png: If Sejuani can land her sejuaniglacialprisonstart.png on 2 or more enemy players, you can easily follow up and you have a very big chance of winning that fight. You can both engage very hard and have strong synergy thanks to this. It doesn't really matter who engages first, since you knocking everyone up with monkeykingspintowin.png makes sure Sejuani will land her ult, cause since patch 5.6, her missing that ult is actually a big problem.                                 opcombo.jpg
Wukong and Sejuani have one of the highest winrate combo's in the game at 57,6%

Here a little bonus clip featuring me and some friends. This displays the reason why Wukong + Galio is such a good combo (all credits to Galio though, I didn't do too much :p)

Some strong teamcomps you can run with Wukong in them (just example comps):

                                                              -TOP-                                                                           -JUNGLE-

62_64.png32_64.png61_64.png429_64.png89_64.png    - 62_64.png106_64.png8_64.png104_64.png143_64.png    - 62_64.png113_64.png90_64.png429_64.png111_64.png    - 68_64.png62_64.png85_64.png96_64.png412_64.png
62_64.png120_64.png55_64.png15_64.png267_64.png    - 62_64.png57_64.png161_64.png222_64.png201_64.png    - 62_64.png59_64.png69_64.png110_64.png53_64.png    - 54_64.png62_64.png157_64.png15_64.png89_64.png

Well, all this synergy is nice and all, but it isn't that important, as long as your team isn't behind most teamfights are easily winable. A big problem ofcourse, would be the things that counter Wukong, so ive listed some overall weakness that aren't necessarily his fault, but more depends on the opponents or just the current situation.
  • Wukong is bad vs CC (crowdcontrol) so he naturally is bad vs for example 89_64.png254_64.png268_64.png. Even worse are knock-backs as they'll make you waste your cyclone (R), so 40_64.png5_64.png64_64.png18_64.png67_64.png79_64.png are very big problems in teamfights and skirmishes. Champs that summon terrain like 59_64.png34_64.png268_64.png can also destroy your teamfights for the same reason of just denying your engages
  • Single target CC isn't that bad since decoy (W) blocks it completely, vs for example 25_64.png106_64.png103_64.png53_64.png
  • Silences, polymorphs and fears get their own category since they leave you even more vonurable for a few seconds, so champs like 9_64.png31_64.png86_64.png56_64.png117_64.png16_64.png are all pretty annoying and have potential to kill you very easily, not solo, but in teamfights because they can prevent you from escaping, engaging or doing any significant damage
As far as laneswapping towards for example the mid-lane goes, Wukong mid is actually very viable. He is very strong vs squishy mages and can provide strong dragon control and has amazing roames. Right down below I have written a small piece about Wukong jungle, which is also very viable in my opinion. Build wise you would have pretty much the same build as always (with maybe a bit more focus on damage since you are the midlaner after all). I have decided to list match-ups that are safe and unsafe to lane swap towards once you have originally locked in Wukong for top-lane. Starting of with the mid-lane:
  • Safe to go Wukong mid vs: 4_64.png34_64.png25_64.png55_64.png76_64.png63_64.png91_64.png99_64.png131_64.png161_64.png105_64.png115_64.png134_64.png103_64.png84_64.png69_64.png
  • Unsafe to go Wukong mid vs: 30_64.png31_64.png45_64.png43_64.png50_64.png and cheese mid-laners (= uncommon picks) that would normally rek him in top-lane like 80_64.png and 92_64.png
And as far as jungling goes, most junglers that aren't good in early 1v1's or invades are no problem, so for laneswapping to the jungle, note:
  • Safe to go Wukong jungle vs: 33_64.png32_64.png80_64.png79_64.png107_64.png154_64.png120_64.png28_64.png106_64.png266_64.png121_64.png60_64.png113_64.png
  • Unsafe to go Wukong jungle vs: 421_64.png254_64.png2_64.png35_64.png64_64.png77_64.png5_64.png as they can easily kill you in an invade

Ok, so I've covered the champions that counter Wukong, the ones that don't and the ones he has synergy with, but what about items? We all know that 238_64.png for example, gets destroyed by both 3140_32.png and 3157_32.png. Does Wukong have items that counter him like that? Not as extreme as this example with Zed, but there are a few items that do screw him over pretty hard, so let's have a look:
  • 3087_32.png: The lightning follows you when you get hit, even if you're invisible with decoy (W) giving away your position and this might get you caught, even though people often overlook it
  • 3157_32.png: You can't burst mages in teamfights if they have this
  • 3151_32.png: Gives you a 'burn' that doesn't transfer to your monkeykingdecoy.png when you use it (similar to jungle buffs), so the enemy knows when you fake it and when you realy use it
  • 3092_32.png: Very strong slow that gives vision when it hits, making monkeykingdecoy.png useless afterwards
  • 3512_32.png: you aren't good to deal with splitpushers at all, since you're needed in teamfights, so defending outer lanes vs a champ with this item can be a pain. It gives a ton of armor as well
  • 2043_32.png: Breaks the stealth from your monkeykingdecoy.png
  • 3143.png3742.png3075.png3110.png: A lot of armor can shut down your burstpotential a lot, and his sustained damage isn't that great vs tanks

Jungle Wukong Back to Top

addtext_com_MTcwNTI5MTQxNzU.jpg

Yes, this is a guide for Wukong in the top-lane, but I got into playing Wukong jungle somewhere in S4 and I absolutely loved it. His early clear is bad and he is a pretty challenging champion to jungle with, but his ganks are very good, especially when you gank a lane with CC. The only problem with ganking is that when you don't have Red-Buff, you have no CC at all pre-6, making it hard to gank lanes that don't have CC either. But the jungle has changed alot since pre-season 5. It got a bit tougher, but jungle Wukong still has great potential.

Ok, so when you're jungling, you obviously want to take 11.png and you want to change your build a bit. No matter what jungle item you get, you will always get the warrior enchantment because it is the only jungle enchantment that you should even consider getting on him. Cinderhulk as item is not bad on him, but you'll really lack damage early which is very bad. For those who have some experience with the new jungle, you'll know that the initial jungle item comes down to personal preference more than anything. You can take each one of them on your jungler and it is good. These are my favorites in order on Wukong: 3706.png>3711.png>3715.png, but like I mentioned earlier, they are all viable. If you decide to switch your trinket to 3341.png however, I highly recommend taking the 3711.png.

The reason I like 3706.png the most is because he has no CC but his monkeykingspintowin.png. So Wukong's ability to gank is greatly increased with the slow and movespeed buff from 3706.png

Wukong's early clear isn't good, so you can do one side of the jungle (3 camps which are preferably Gromp, Blue buff and Murk wolves) before having to base. If you get a very good leash it is possible for you to do the Raptors if you focus the small ones first (which you should always do as wukong when clearing them). If you want a more indepth jungle Wukong guide I would recommend the other lolking guides, but this just gives you an idea of what I think is the best way to play him now. And as with every jungler, ward shit and learn to smite ;)

BUILD:

START: 1039_32.png and 2031.png
1st Back:  2032.png
Full Build example:  3707_32.png - 3074.png - 3111_32.png - 3071.png - 3143.png - 3102.png
                                    3707_32.png - 3074.png - 3111_32.png - 3142.png - 3143.png - 3065.png
                                    3707_32.png - 3142.png - 3111.png - 3071.png - 3143.png - 3102.png

Take monkeykingdecoy.png at level 2 so it can tank camps for you, so you remain healthier (VERY IMPORTANT)

Junglers you should avoid picking Wukong against: 35_64.png77_64.png421_64.png2_64.png

Also, I prefer this rune page as MR does nothing in the jungle and this allows you 40% CDR from masteries, 1400.png and 3071_32.png.

About me (my champion stats) Back to Top

addtext_com_MTgzMDMzMTEwNjY.jpg

My name is Bartthetosti and I play on EUW. In S5 i ended as a Gold V, I got placed in Silver V that season. I don't really enjoy playing ranked that much, so I might stay unranked this entire season. I ofcourse wish you all luck in the dangers of yolo queue. If we were ever to meet in a match, carry my noob ass please. Thanks in advance.
My favorite champions are: 62_64.png150.png24.png2.png120.png68.png104_64.png111_64.png89_64.png106_64.png in no particular order, but Wukong and Gnar being my favorite of the bunch. I don't really main a specific role, but jungle and top are my favorite roles (and probably my best roles), my worst role is probably ADC (someone teach me plox).
