Summoner Spells Back to Top

Top Lane

Flash Teleport is the standard top lane summoner spells. Ignite nowadays is pretty bad since most top laners can beat you. Teleport is more safe and allows you to survive lane phase and hit your mid game power spike in case you fall behind. Teleport is also useful for roaming and split pushing (although very rare that you will split push on wukong).

Mid Lane

Flash Ignite is the standard mid lane summoner spells. You have high kill pressure mid against squishies unlike up in top lane so ignite is what you are going to want to take most of the time. Teleport is viable mid as well, but I would only recommend taking teleport if you are in a real bad matchup as most of the time, you are going to want to be hyper aggressive and snowball hard in the mid lane.

New Runes Back to Top

Aggressive Page

These runes are usually going to be the standard runes for mid lane Wukong, centered more around aggression. However you can also take these runes up in top lane as well. Take this page in a favorable matchup.

Electrocute.png?width=64is the best keystone for wukong. Can be procced with E auto Q and helps him burst down enemies mid game or to trade in lane. Playing around the cooldown of this keystone is also very important to get favorable fights vs the enemy or increase kill pressure vs squishies mid-late game.
Sudden%20Impact.png?width=64Gives another extra burst of damage as Wukong will usually (not always) lead a fight from his W or E so you're gonna always be getting extra damage in your combo.
Eyeball%20Collection.png?width=64Eyeball Collection will help you once you start snowballing and roaming. Taking this rune means you're confident that you are going to be able to roam around and kill everyone and get fed.
Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=64Helps you roam around and any extra ms on wukong is pretty good.
Manaflow%20Band.png?width=64 Helps Wukong's mana problems a little bit. We are taking the sorcery page to get the extra AD that we wouldn't get from resolve or precision.
Celerity.png?width=64Synergizes with Wukong well. Gain damage from buying boots, popping youmuus in fights, and using your ultimate, as all of these helps give more ms which in turn gives more damage.

Defensive Page

The defensive page is more focused on letting you survive the laning phase to reach your mid game power spike. Take this page in a bad matchup.

Electrocute.png?width=64See above
Sudden%20Impact.png?width=64See above
Zombie%20Ward.png?width=64Now Zombie ward is better to keep you safe from ganks and you can use this to deep ward enemy jungle to help out your team and yourself.
Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=64See above
Bone%20Plating.png?width=64Bone plating helps against enemies that can force an extended trade against you.
Second%20Wind.png?width=64Helps you stay in lane and not get too too low.

General Skill Rundown

monkeykingpassive.png Literally nothing interactive you can do in game to play around this passive. It's just there and barely noticeable. You don't have to worry about this passive.
monkeykingdoubleattack.png Long range auto attack reset. Penetrates armor. You usually want to use an auto attack before Q to make use of the auto attack reset. You can also cancel the Q animation using E and R after using Q.
monkeykingdecoy.pngLeaves behind a decoy and pushes you forward in you current direction by 100 units. Stealths you for 1.5 seconds. This is useful to block skillshots, escape, or close the gap slightly to just get in auto attack range. Allows you to go on into people by surprise and you can juke people by using decoy one direction then walking the other. Pressing the stop key (S) makes you look like you used your decoy so you can easily fake engages and scare your enemy off. Decoy can also be used to tank minions and monsters. Useful for taking off minion aggro or freezing the wave. Decoy can also tank tower shots if you leave it out closer to the tower than you.
monkeykingnimbus.pngGapcloser that can hit three targets and gives you attack speed for a few seconds. You can use this to jump over some walls if there is an enemy you can E to over the wall. E is also useful for taking down objectives with the attack speed so if you're attacking a tower, E nearby minions to gain the attack speed. In rare cases, your other mimics can block skillshots for you but this is extremely rare and I wouldn't try to put too much time on learning how to.
monkeykingspintowin.png Aoe knockup that lasts for 4 seconds and lets you move around faster the longer the ult lasts. Good team fight ultimate and can be used to cancel some abilities, channels, and increase damage from Celerity.png?width=32. Can also be used to run away in some cases.

Skill Order

monkeykingnimbus.pngis taken level 1 for the purpose to either cs the first 3 melee minions, or trade with enemy laner. E should always be started level 1 except for very very few scenarios (against jax or getting invaded early)
monkeykingdoubleattack.pngis taken level 2 for the strong E auto Q combo that you can dish out on ur opponent. It procs electrocute and is a good fast combo.
monkeykingdecoy.pngis taken level 3 to be able to exit a trade safely. With W, you can E auto Q the enemy, and when they come back to retaliate you can W to safety. However this does burn mana so don't be wasteful! You can also take W level 2 in some scenarios where there is an important ability that you need to dodge with W.

For skill order it is always monkeykingspintowin.png>monkeykingnimbus.png>monkeykingdoubleattack.png>monkeykingdecoy.png. This will never ever change.

But Pride, what about Q max?

Never max Q on wukong first. Some people theorize that due to the increasing armor shred, you should max this first vs tanks. Don't. Wukong Q already has a good ad ratio that scales off total ad. However E scales off bonus Ad and if you don't put any points into E, The ability will be totally useless while Q is already a one point wonder. E is needed for part of the burst combo and if you don't level up the base damage on it its going to deal a measly 60 damage  until mid game while one point on Q doesn't make much of a difference versus 5 points on Q early game.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

This start is what you want to get most of the time. It gives you good trading power and mana sustain which you need to trade a lot as Wukong as he does run out of mana fast without corrupting pot.
Against a lane dominant champion like Jayce or Renekton a Dorans shield will give you more health sustain to survive the lane.

Core Items

Duskblade is absolutely core on Wukong and should be rushed every game. It gives him the ability to assassinate squishy targets. Wukong can also re proc duskblade using decoy.
ghostblade gives wukong more lethality for one shotting and also gives him the extra ms for roaming and to engage team fights.
Hydra although fallen off as a core item for Wukong, is now back in again with the buffs to Wukong's Q. The 80 AD is extremely valuable for spicy Q whaps and the wave clear and life steal on this item makes up for Wukong's weakness in those areas. You can grab an early tiamat after duskblade then finish the ravenous hydra later.
Synergizes very well with Wukong. Gives him a whole lot of cdr and survivalbility and the armor shred passive goes well with his ultimate. This item can also be used to shred tanks for your carries.
Depends on the enemy team. Tabi against auto attackers. Mercs against lots of cc. If their team doesn't specialize in one of these categories, you can go for mobis

Situational Items

Gives you the most lethality possible. Solid choice against a team with no tanks and no armor and you're extremely fed.
Safe and cheap option. Useful against other assassins as well
Lord dominks is super good against super tanky comps with 2-3 tanks. If they have lots of healing, go executioners and later upgrade it to mortal reminder.
Get hexdrinker against fed ap champion. Upgrade to maw super late game
Get this against champions with traps or if your team doesn't have one
    Example Final Build

Wukong builds and plays as an assassin

As you can see in the build, we look for a full damage build on Wukong. This may be unfamiliar to you guys and you might think its a troll build but this is the most optimal and viable build for wukong atm. Wukong works as an assassin with his stealth, burst, and mobility. You want to look to pick off squishy targets. But the special thing on Wukong is that he can also go for big ultimate plays and knock up multiple enemies in a team fight. This is what separates him from other assassins.

When should I go tank on Wukong?

Don't even think about it.

VS

Aatrox

Medium

Aatrox is better than you in extended trades due to his W and its best to play it safe until level 3 to do small trades. Always have your W up to avoid his Q and once you hit level 6 you can try to burst him down. Be aware of his passive though.

VS

Ahri

Medium

This all comes down to skill. She can harass you pretty hard but you will win extended trades against her with your E attack speed. You can go super ham on her before six as long as you block her charm with your clone. After six she has her ultimate dashes which makes it hard to kill her so try to fake an all in and make her blow her ultimate then find another opportunity to kill her.

VS

Akali

Medium

Akali is strong level 1 and her Q auto will deal a surprising amount of damage if you underestimate her. It is best to wait to level 2 and you can consistently out trade her. After level 6 she has the potential to straight up burst you if you use your decoy wastefully. Always save your decoy when she decides to go in on you. A nice thing about this matchup is when you use your ultimate on her and she is in her shroud, you can detect where she is if you hear the sound effect of your ultimate hitting her.

VS

Anivia

Medium

Anivia is pretty inmobile so it is easy to jump on her, but be careful of getting hit by her Q, as the Q can chunk you for lots of damage. Her range early game can give you a tough time pre six and be careful of getting baited into a bad dive as she has her egg passive. Once you're six you can have an easier time against her and straight up all in her. If you are able to dodge of decoy her Q, you'll always win.

VS

Annie

Easy

Generally against Annie you can always go for trades against her as long as she doesn't have her stun up. However at level six she has the potential to bomb you with tibbers and burst you down so make sure you always have your decoy up when she has her stun up. I like to E in then immediately decoy. Then she will stun your clone and then I will go for a longer trade against her and hopefully you may be able to get a kill against her.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Easy

Against Aurelion Sol you need to get into melee range against him. Or if he goes to Q you W to block it. He'll be entirely useless as he won't be able to hit his Q and his stars won't hit you if you E onto him early. However at level six you need to bait out his ultimate. Never commit to an all in with your ultimate unless he uses his first. Other wise he can just knock you away and you'll look stupid.

VS

Azir

Easy

Azir gets outtraded by you at all stages of the lane phase. The only way he can win is if you stay in his soldier range for a while. I like to wait until he has a soldier out for a while and a couple seconds before it despawns I jump on him. Or you can wait until he wastes Q so he can't retaliate when you go into melee range on him. similar to aurelion sol, you need to be able to harass him down post six to bait his ultimate, then go for an all in with your ultimate.

VS

Brand

Easy

Most important part about laning against Brand is you need to dodge his stun which you can do with good decoy timing. But if he lands his full combo on you it will hurt a lot. If you get into melee range you'll still beat him and at level six you can just straight up run at him and kill him.

VS

Camille

Medium

Camille actually out trades you if you go for an extended trade against her. When fighting her try to either get level 2 before her then go for a trade on her, or wait to level 3 when you have decoy. Make sure not to waste your decoy because you need to use it to block her E. Her W slow also makes it hard to run away from her. At level six as long as you block her hookshot you can still fight her.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium

Cass can easily punish you if you get hit by her Q's. She will win long trades aganist you and her W makes it so you can't E. Her ultimate is also really good against you and she can easily kill you that way. The best way to fight Cassiopeia is move unpredictably so she can't hit you with her spells and go for really short trades. If you go and try to ult her after you knock her up click the opposite directions so when she ults you you only get slowed not stunned.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

The key thing about this matchup is if you just dodge his Q you will win. Cho'gath is easily exploitable all you need to do is just keep trading with him and be aggressive as possible. Use your decoy to dodge his Q. But when he gets six and starts eating minions, he gets too tanky and at the point if you haven't snowballed on him, it is better to just focus on farming instead.

VS

Corki

Easy

Corki does surprisingly a low amount of damage early game. You pretty much out trade him all game and you just have to keep jumping on him constantly. His W is also a very long cooldown so if he ever uses it you have a free kill.

VS

Darius

Medium

Contrary to popular belief, Darius isn't that bad of a matchup for Wukong. If you bait his Q's and not get hit by them or you can just E him when he is charging his Q. you can outtrade him with an e aa q combo and when he pulls you in with E you can decoy to the side. Just make sure you're only going for e aa q combo's and backing out immediatedly or his bleed stacking will get to you. At level six you can actually cancel his ultimate with your decoy. So after you harass him down a little you can go for an all in and when he tries to retaliate with a dunk just use your decoy. At 2-3 items, you will become more useful in team fights.

VS

Diana

Medium

Diana is pretty weak pre six so you can easily hop onto her and trade with her at any point at levels 1-5. Just make sure you keep the trade short enough so she doesn't get to get a passive aa on you. At level 6 both of you have equal burst potential but make sure you don't waste your decoy as she can combo you with her Q ult.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

You can kill Mundo before his first back but after that point there is no realistic way any of you would get a kill after that. An executioner's calling would help mid game against him though. Early levels you can always go aggressive on him and outtrade him. You can use your decoy to block his cleavers too. But if you don't get a kill early it is better to focus on farming against him and just avoid cleavers.

VS

Ekko

Easy

Ekko can out trade you level 1 if he gets his third hit on you as his passive proc deals a lot of damage. At level 2-5 you can out trade him and you can use your W to block his Q from hitting you or to delay yourself from getting hit by his passive proc. At level six it is difficult to kill him at all due to his ultimate but you won't die to him either. You want to harass him with comobos and get him low and if he blows his ult immediatedly go in.

VS

Fiora

Medium

This matchup is 50/50. She can potentially riposte your combo and your ultimate knockup which can really mess you up. But you can also easily win trades early game if you are able to decoy whenever she uses her riposte. Position yourself in places where she won't be able to hit her vital. Post six she will either try to riposte when you go in for a E trade or she will try to hold it for your ultimate. If the first, just decoy immedieatedly after you E. If the second, just keep auto attacking until she is low and will panic W. Then go for an ultimate. But late game no matter what Fiora will always win a 1v1. At that point you want to look for teamfights and not fight her 1v1 as your team fight is better than hers.

VS

Fizz

Medium

Fizz is mainly annoying for his E. You can outtrade fizz 1-5 but he will win all ins post six if you are unable to block his shark with your clone. If you are able to decoy to block his ultimate then you will be able to all in him and win. If not then he will win.

VS

Galio

Medium

Galio can poke you out pretty well and he can easily counter your trades by using his taunt and E. If he goes Ap, don't let him poke you and always try to force something back when he goes for a Q. If you W his E you will be able to win the trade. If he gets his tank items there isnt really a way you can kill him. Its best to focus on farming, as a decent galio should never die to you.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

Gangplank can actually cheese you level 1-2 with his passive and Q but afterwards you will be able to win all ins. Your Q also outranges his barrels so you can clear them with no worry. If you observe him trying to hit you with barrels just E to him and avoid the damage. Gp is very exploitable and you'll always outtrade him so use that to your advantage. However don't let him just Q you on cooldown, you need to be able to force trades so he doesn't just poke you down in lane.

VS

Garen

Medium

Garen will outtrade wukong early, but after first back you can fight him. Try to always use your decoy to block his Q. If you do that you'll always win a fight no matter what. If he is charging with you at Q let him get into range and then W. then auto QE him and you'll win the trade. If you go in on him, E, immediatedly decoy as he will probably try to Q you, then auto Q him. However once he gets one tank item garen becomes impossible to 1v1 and he can pretty much tower dive you whenever he wants. However do not worry as Garen has one of the worst scalings and you just need to be able to win team fights.

VS

Gnar

Easy

Gnar gets outtraded by you whole lane phase. Just always jump on him with E and you will always be able to beat him. You can still outtrade him in megagnar but its best to fight him in mini as he is more squishy in mini gnar.

VS

Gragas

Medium

You don't see this champion in solo lanes much anymore but there is a chance you might see him agian. It is easy to block a lot of Gragas' abilities with your decoy as long as you block one of them you'll win the trade. he will either E in which case you W or you E in then decoy immediatedly so he E's your W and if you see him charging his W get in range of him and decoy so he W'd your decoy. When you go for an all in  move a lot while you are in your cyclone so you can dodge his ultimate and overall a well played wukong should win a lot of trades. But if Gragas gets tanky, it starts to become harder to kill him.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

Just wait until 3 and constantly go in for him and outtrade him. It is very easy to clear his turrets with your E and once you get tiamat. Also when you decoy the turrets immediatedly target your W so winning against Heimerdinger is very easy, since his damage comes from his turrets.

VS

Illaoi

Medium

Facing Illaoi is all about dodging her tentacles. Which is easy as long as you decoy properly and E on top of her to get out of her tentacles. If you dodge her tentacles you should win any trades against her. Generally i will save my W for when she W's me or when she goes up to E me as the E will get tanked by the clone.

VS

Irelia

Medium

You win this lane levels 1-5. If you time her clone around her E and she stuns your clone you win the trades. I like to E then decoy then auto Q her for a winning trade. But if you dont back off immediately she can jump right back in and dish out a ton of damage so keep your trades short. However post six her sustain is high and generally she will out duel you in most scenarios. It's best to wait until mid-late game where you can be a bigger team fight threat than her.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

Jarvan generally out trades you early game with his EQ combo unless you dodge it, which is pretty hard to do reliably. If he does whiff it however than you can go in for a trade on him (if he wastes his E or Q). Other than that, don't try to fight him until you get duskblade or a level + gold lead.

VS

Jax

Easy

In this matchup you need to avoid his E at all costs otherwise you take a lot of damage from his W. Take W level 1 and go up to him auto attack. When he turns on his E, W, then auto attack him afterwards. Once you get your E, you can E then auto attack. He will use his E and then i will start backing off and then decoy his stun. If you block his stun with your W you will win the trade with an aa Q. Just keep wittling him down like that and you will be able to all in him with ult. However eventually late game he will be able to 1v1 you so it is better to force team fights instead as you are more useful then.

VS

Jayce

Medium

Jayce will outtrade you and harass you pre six. There isn't much you can do about it unless you get jungle ganks. Try to use your decoy to block his Q's. There isn't much to do except farm under tower until you hit level 6. If he didn't buy tabis you can all in him. If he did, then keep playing passive until you get duskblade. Then you will be able to kill him.

VS

Karma

Hard

Karma doesn't have huge kill pressure but she is just extremely annoying. She has annoying shields and harass and there is no way you can kill a good Karma. Her gank setup is strong and she can still see you if you decoy during her W if she tagged you with her W. Just farming works against her but her trades are strong if you get caught in her W.

VS

Karthus

Easy

Just don't get hit by Q's early and you're good. Stand near your minions so if he tries to Q you, he'll also the Q the minions which means you take less damage. You win all trades early and there isn't much he can do against you unless you tank a lot of Q's.

VS

Kassadin

Easy

Kassadin is very weak pre six and you can easily exploit it by trading with him frequently. After six you continue to outtrade him but he can R away to safety so make sure before you all in that he either has no mana for R or his R is on cooldown. Be careful tho cuz eventually kassadin will outscale you.

VS

Katarina

Medium

You always outtrade her just be careful of where hear daggers land and avoid going near them. Just initiate trades onto her and you'll win. At level six save your ultimate for when she ults you that way you can cancel it. However i labelled this medium because no matter how behind katarina is she can just roam bot and get double kills. You always need to ping when she is gone or she will destroy your team.

VS

Kayle

Easy

Kayle outpushes and outranges you early but you still win trades against her once you are level 3 as long as you decoy after your combo. Keep trades short and don't extend trades with her. Keep whittling her down and eventually you will blow out her ultimate which allows you to all in her.

VS

Kennen

Medium

Kennen will harass you repeatedly and stick to you with his stun and it is difficult to chase him when he has his E. So you always want to scare him off with a quick combo so he doesn't harass you for free. But if he is low enough u can all in him and knock him up before he turns on his E.

VS

Kled

Hard

Kled is much tankier than you and he wins all trades against you with his W. In this lane you just want to farm and try not to die to him as he will snowball. If for whatever reason he drops to low health in his dismounted form go aggressive on him as you will outtrade him then. But be careful of his bar at the bottom and if it is really high up you will know he will mount skaarl again.

VS

LeBlanc

Medium

You will win trades with her but her poke is safer and she is very mobile. You can block her E with your clone when used right. Generally just make sure you get your burst on her before she does as she can easily get away with her W.

VS

Lissandra

Medium

It is near impossible to kill her after six due to her Ult so it is best to try and harass her down and kill her before then. Her harass is strong and she can push harder than you overall there isn't much to do in this lane just try to read her angles in which she will try to Q you through minions and stay farmed up. Luckily she is a pretty bad champion so you will become more useful later in the game.

VS

Lulu

Hard

Lulu is near impossible to kill at any stage of the game. Her polymorph completely screws you and her ultimate completely counters yours. Her E can see you in stealth and her poke and slows can wittle you down during lane. All you can do in this lane is farm up and try not to fall too behind her in cs.

VS

Lux

Medium

Against lux you just need to avoid her snare and you can win trades and all in her. However if you get snared she can straight up chunk you with the rest of her spells. Try to decoy to the side to avoid her Q and zone her off of cs and exp.

VS

Malphite

Hard

Malphite makes it impossible for you to harass him when he lands his E on you and he gets really tanky as the game goes on. Realistically he should never die to you and your best bet is to just farm up. Don't underestimate his damage as if you overstay your welcome he can easily kill you and set up a gank with his ULT.

VS

Malzahar

Medium

Pre six you can easily jump on him and trade against him. He is not too difficult to deal with as long as you don't take too much unnecessary poke. At level six however if you get in his E and attacked by his voidlings under his ultimate you're screwed. What I like to do is when he is low I E auto then decoy so he ults my clone and then i auto Q him and Ult for the kill. Also be careful of getting ganked cuz malzahar lanes are free ganks for their jungler.

VS

Maokai

Medium

Maokai is hard to trade with without items in the early game. I would wait until first back before doing anything aggressive. Once you have some ad you can win trades against him. But when he gets super tanky then it becomes hard to kill him again. Overall this matchup is mostly decided by the junglers. One extra tip against maokai is using your W to tank his ultimate root just when its about to hit you. Maokai will think he actually rooted you and he'll W onto your clone, wasting his abilities.

VS

Mordekaiser

Hard

You can't ever win a trade against him ever. Don't ever try to fight him 1v1. Luckily he is extremely inmobile and easy to gank so you can call your jungler up to help you and in late game team fights you are much better so just farm up til then.

VS

Morgana

Medium

Morgana's black shield won't do much against you pre level 6 so basically she is going to have 2 abilities against you pre six. You can take this oppurtunity to constantly force winning trades against her. You can bait and block her Q by E onto her then decoying. Post six, the lane becomes harder. She reveal you in stealth with her ultimate and her black shield prevents her from getting knocked up. Also she gets a tankier build mid game so its harder to one shot her. It's important to get an early lead against her and if you didn't, just try to farm it out its not too hard against her.

VS

Nasus

Medium

Pre six you can always out trade Nasus. You need to use that time to your advantage and to not let him farm safely. Nasus is also very easy to gank so communicate to your jungler to come and shut him down. At level 6 he becomes much harder to kill and he will out trade you in extended trades with his ultimate and you can't run away from him due to his wither. Luckily Nasus usually just stays top most of the game stacking Q. So if you didn't snowball on him pre six you can push and roam while their team is lacking someone with roam pressure.

VS

Olaf

Hard

Never fight this guy. He will just chase you down with Q and his ultimate completely denies yours. Luckily he is easy to gank so you can call your junlger up to gank him. But in a 1v1 scenario he will win every time. Luckily he falls off pretty hard and isn't as useful as most tanks so try to farm up against him.

VS

Orianna

Easy

level 1 you can out trade her heavily if she started Q. If she started E, then you're gonna get heavily out traded. So wait until you see her use Q to go onto her level 1. After that it is really easy. Just constantly jump on her when ur E is available. If you constantly jump on her, it relieves you pressure from getting harassed by her.

VS

Ornn

Hard

Orrn is too tanky and out trades you at all stages of the game. Just farm and don't force. Orrn can't do much if you just farm.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

Pantheon has high kill pressure on you pre six. I would start doran's shield in this lane. You're gonna have to give up a lot of cs. Just try to stay in exp range. Post six you can just run at him and all in whenever your ultimate is up. I would E auto to take down his shield, W to block his W, then auto Q ult. Also pantheon will be wanting to roam a lot so you need to be pinging ur mias.

VS

Poppy

Medium

Poppy can easily W your E and if you get slammed into a wall you lose the trade. Stand away from walls and just hit her with Q's on cool down and you should be okay. If she wastes her Q you can try to go in on her. Also starting a trade in melee range might be more optimal so she won't be able to know when you will E. Overall, this matchup can go either way early-mid game but as the game goes on, she will fall off and won't be able to kill you.

VS

Quinn

Medium

Quinn will bully you super hard levels 1-5 with her range and safety with her E. I recommend a doran's shield start against her. A good quinn will E you once you E on her. Also her blind is really annoying. The only way you'll be able to trade with her pre six is let her waste E on you, decoy to dodge her passive auto, then E onto her and trade. Once you are six you can just all in burst her as she does not have a combat ultimate. I would suggest EQ ulting her and not to auto between E and Q so that she doesn't have enough reaction time to E you. Similar to Pantheon, Quinn also can roam very well so when she is out of lane be sure to let your team know.

VS

Renekton

Hard

Besides level 1 with no fury, you never win any trades against Renekton. He has high sustain, dash, and a really long stun. His ultimate also completely denies your burst damage. Try to let him push and attempt to farm safely. If he doesn't show signs of trying to push, try to bait out his Q on the minion wave by walking near him and when he dashes decoy. Luckily outside of lane, you are more useful than Renekton so just wait until then.

VS

Riven

Medium

This all depends on the skill of the riven player. A super bad riven that wastes her spells is very easy to beat. Just wait for her to use her Q charges and then you out trade her. If its a good riven player, you shouldn't ever be able to beat her. They will wait for you to go cs and then force an extended trade against you with their Q that you won't win. Generally though if the riven is decent and holding their Q until you are at melee range. Try to play passive, let her push, and farm it out because as the game goes on, Wukong is a much easier champion to team fight with than Riven.

VS

Rumble

Medium

To trade against Rumble, I would wait until his Q goes off for a bit and just before it runs out I E onto him for a quick combo and then I run away. If he tries to hit me with E's I would block them with decoy. At level 6 his ultimate deals a lot more damage than yours. Focus on harassing him down in short burst trades until you kill him in one final all in combo.

VS

Ryze

Easy

You win trades and all ins pre six and post six as long as you just E on him constantly. However if you didn't snowball on him and he goes a tanky build that consists of the such like frozen heart and zhonyas you will never be able to damage him.

VS

Shen

Medium

This matchup can go either way pre six depending on how good Shen is with using his W. One thing you can do however is E auto him and when he Q's and uses W on himself I decoy out of his zone and then I wait for my cooldowns to come back I go back in for a trade as the W cooldown is very long. If you play around his W cooldown you can fight him. Post six this lane becomes easier as he doesn't have a combat ultimate. You can ult him during his W and he will still take damage.

VS

Singed

Easy

You will always win short trades against him as long as you do not run after him in his poison trail. Just keep harassing him down until you can kill him. At level six he becomes a little harder to kill, so if you can't seem to kill him, just farm and wait for team fights where you are more useful.

VS

Sion

Medium

This lane is dependent on how well you can dodge his E poke and his Q charge. It is pretty easy to avoid Sion Q with your W or E but be careful of getting harassed by his E poke. I would try to E on him a lot and then dodge his Q with clone. Once you done that just continue auto attacking him and you will usually win the trade. At level six you can block his ultimate with your W. Just make sure to use it preemptively so that he doesn't hit both you and your clone.

VS

Swain

Easy

The new swain is pretty simple for Wukong. As long as you E on top of him constantly you'll win trades. You can also easily avoid his E with your decoy so he doesn't pull you in. At level six you can try to bait out his ult and then run away when it is up. Once it is down you can go back in for the kill. If his healing is too much for you to handle you can buy an executioners.

VS

Syndra

Medium

You win trades against Syndra if you are able to land your combo on her before she E's you away. You always want to try to E on her whenever it is up or else you take free harass. At level six you want to EQ ult her fast so that she can't E you away in time. Or bait it out before an all in as the cooldown is long and by the time your abilities are up she won't have it as defense.

VS

Tahm Kench

Hard

Tahm Kench is very oppressive and you cannot trade with him ever. Killing him is also extremely difficult with his E. Just try to farm up as it is not too difficult against him and outscale him later on.

VS

Taliyah

Easy

She outrades you level 1 with Q but after that you just win every trade as long as you don't take harass. Her ult is a very fast roaming tool so getting a tiamat early can help to push her in and not let her roam.

VS

Talon

Medium

This matchup is determined by how much better you are at at using your clone to block his spells. If you are able to bait out his Q  or W on your clone then you should win the trade. However, mess up and get passive procced and you will get destroyed. Also his R lasts longer than your stealth so don't rely on that to save you from his R>

VS

Teemo

Easy

Teemo beats you levels 1-3 but once you get all your abilities you outrade him every time. I like to E auto W to him then if he blinded me then i will stall out blind in stealth and continue to follow him and auto Q him when the blind wears off. If he hasn't blinded me yet I immediatedly Q him and walk away. Keep doing that you should be good to go. Post six this is even easier. You can just EQ ult the little guy and ur ult hits him during blind. Later this matchup changes difficulty  depending on the teemo's build. Full damage? Easy. Ninja tabi Frozen mallet tank? Hard.

VS

Trundle

Hard

Extrememly difficult matchup. His Q will steal your AD, he can force an extended trade vs you with his W and E which you do not want. And he has lots of sustain. The only time you should think about trading is when you're close to your own tower and he Q'd a minion. Otherwise, just farm and become better in team fights.

VS

Tryndamere

Hard

You can out trade him when he has no fury with a quick combo but you need to keep the trade short or else he will run you down with crits. Post six you will never kill a trynd realistically because of his R. Generally in this lane i just let him push to my tower and I farm under tower until i get a gank.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

Just jump on him whenever your E is up. You will out trade him every time. The only thing you have to be careful about is if he is walking up to you with gold card. That probably means you're getting ganked. Other than that you also have to ping your team whenever TF is meta. You can always beat him in a 1v1 but if he works with his team he can shut you down.

VS

Udyr

Medium

Udyr can easily cheese you in the earlier levels so just stay back and farm. If he ever goes near you with his bear stance use decoy an he will usually attack it. At level six you can try to kill him but you need to harass him down. Udyr is hard to kill in lane with his W life steal but usually once you get your duskblade, you can one shot him.

VS

Urgot

Hard

Urgot will always out trade you at all stages of the game. If you ever jump on him, he will fling you into his W which is too tanky for you to damage thru and he deals a lot of damage to you. Try to farm in this lane. Doran's shield might help. You can use your W to block his E or R to survive, but thats about it.

VS

Veigar

Easy

you out trade him during laning phase if you are able to pull a quick combo on him before you get stunned. If you see his E animation you can actually use decoy to slightly push you out of the way. Other than that, just try to kill him as much as possible before he gets a lot of stacks. A hexdrinker should be able to deny him his burst mid-late game.

VS

Vel'Koz

Medium

If you don't get proced by his passive you win the trade. Try to always be trading with him or you will get poked. Avoiding his E is important because if you get hit by it, you're guaranteed to get passive proced. Luckily for you your E and W are all good tools to help you get out of his skillshots. You can block his Q with your W and you can use your W to push yourself out of his W and E.

VS

Viktor

Easy

You out trade him all game if you just constantly use E on him when it is up. Unless you stay on his W which is extremely easy to get out of, you win every single trade. Just keep the aggression on him.

VS

Vladimir

Medium

You out damage him and you can block his E with your W. Avoid his super charged Q, as it heals him a lot and damages you a lot so watch his bar below him. Other than that you should be good to go to out trade him. However if he plays safe and just farms, it'll be difficult.

VS

Volibear

Hard

You can block volibear Q with your W once he gets near you but other than that, don't try to trade with him unless he wastes his W on a minion. Realistically, you will never be able to kill this guy due to his passive and once he is level six his all in is stronger than yours. Just try to farm it out and outscale him late game. Executioners might help against him later on.

VS

Xerath

Medium

Always try to go for trades on him when your E is up. Don't let him just poke you all lane. He has all 4 skillshots so you gotta have your happy feet going. You can block his E with your W however and one thing i like to do against xerath is E then W and walk to the side,  and he'll usually E your clone. Then go back in for auto attacks. You out trade him all game, but if you let him poke you from long range, you're going to have a tough time.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Yasuo has a stronger level 1 and 2 so just play safe until level 3. Once you're level 3 just go for quick combos and immediatedly run away after. If he dashes to you decoy. Once you're level six you can all in him pretty easily. I would q him preemptively, getting rid of his shield. Then all in once your Q is back up. You continue to win this lane up until he gets phantom dancer and ninja tabi if he happens to buy tabi.

VS

Yorick

Medium

You win the trade early game pre six if you dodge his E. You can use decoy to move out of it to the side. However post six it is very hard to kill yorick. His ult is good against you and his Q's will start to hurt a lot. If you didn't get an early lead on him just try to farm it out and be more useful in team fights. He will outsplit you so work with your team to stop him from splitting.

VS

Zed

Easy

Zed might be able to out trade you level 1 if he lands a Q on you but after that you should win every trade. Your trading combo is stronger than his. If you ever get to 50% health make sure to pop a potion so he doesn't get his passive dmg. At level six you can just decoy whenever he ults you and he won't know what to do.

VS

Ziggs

Easy

You out trade ziggs all game but don't allow him to poke you. It's easiest to force an extended trade with him before he gets his W. Once he has W just go for a quick E auto Q combo. At level six he has a semi global ultimate so make sure to ping your team when he is MIA as he might be looking to throw his ult some where bot or top.

VS

Zilean

Medium

You can easily out trade zilean. He does win a trade level 2 if he gets a double bomb on you but once you are level 3 you can start winning trades against him. A good thing to do is E auto W then follow him and auto Q. That way you don't get double bombed by him. At level six you still win trades, but his revive ult makes him hard to finish off. However he can't activate it when he is knocked up, so make sure you can knock him up before he ults.

VS

Zoe

Easy

You easily win all ins against zoe if you don't get hit by her sleep. You win trades level 1 but then you have to play safe once she hits 2. When you're level 3 you can go for an E auto W auto q trade. You W and walk to the side to dodge her E that she'll probablby throw and then you continue the trade after that. If however you do get bubbled, you'll definitely lose the trade. Dodging Q's is relatively easy and you can block them with your W if you use it early enough so the aoe doesn't hit you. At level six you can crush the lane even harder. as her ultimate doesn't do much to avoid your all in.

Introduction to Wukong/Combos Back to Top

Before getting started, I am going to clear up one major misconception about Wukong.

"Wukong is a tank/brusier."

No. Wukong has zero synergy with tank items. He does not have high base damages to be able to be useful while building no damage and at that point you might as well pick tanks with higher base damages or more cc. Building tank on Wukong is equivalent to building tank on zed/talon. Don't do it ever. Even if your team has no tank.
Wukong is an assassin at its core. He has stealth, low cd gapcloser, and burst to be an extremely good assassin. Also hitting a high damage ultimate on many targets is very useful for your team. The goal of Wukong is to farm up for his core items, and one shot squishes in team fights or pick them off when they're alone. Under rare circumstances, Wukong also can peel for his adc, but your main job is going to be your team's assassin.

When you play Wukong, an important combo that you are going to use all game is the standard
monkeykingnimbus.png + AA+ monkeykingdoubleattack.png combo. This is the best combo to use from range to gap close and proc your electrocute and be in position to use your ultimate. Early game this is your main trading combo. However, if you are in melee range, you want to use your Q before your E. The reason behind this is because Wukong's Q pierces the enemy armor for a few seconds and this will amplify your damage towards the target after you Q. This combo should look something like AA + monkeykingdoubleattack.pngmonkeykingnimbus.png. This will deal more damage than the E auto Q combo so it is more optimal to use in melee range. But usually you will still be using the combo above because it is more reliable and can be used from a distance. After you dish out your damage combo sometimes you will want to use your decoy to get out safely. This burns a lot of mana so you don't want to always use it. Sometimes the enemy will get scared from your combo and back off which allows you to save decoy. If they go back in aggressively that is a good time to use decoy. Once you're level six it is extremely important to use your Q before your ult. If you don't your ultimate will deal significantly less damage. You can cancel the Q animation with R if you time your R after your Q auto attack right. Once you get duskblade, an important combo is monkeykingnimbus.png + AA +monkeykingdecoy.png + AA +monkeykingdoubleattack.png This will allow you to proc duskblade twice, dealing a lot of damage. This is more optimal against tankier targets as this combo is more delayed and takes more time so if you try it against a squishy, they'll probably run away and by then its more optimal to use a standard combo and one shot them. Finally, for engaging on Wukong you can easily be sneaky and jump on their backline without being noticed. You do this by using decoy from fog of war, pop youmuus and run in and EQ ult their backline.

Early Game/Lane Phase Back to Top

Top Lane

Wukong's matchups top lane are mostly skill or hard matchups. He wins very few matchups. Generally following the matchup guide line above is important, because Wukong's playstyle in the early lane phase is very matchup dependent. Sometimes he can start trading a lot and sometimes he has to avoid trades at all costs and just passively free farm. Generally, you need to utilize your monkeykingnimbus.png + AA + monkeykingdoubleattack.png combo to make short trades. Wukong excels in short trades while other top laners have a stronger extended trade. Most of the time you will want to throw out your combo and back off immediately, whittling them down until they are able to be killed in an all in. Otherwise, just farming is fine and is a safe option to reach your mid game power spike. A good thing to do in the early game to impact the game is to deep ward the river/enemy jungle. This is even more important with zombie ward. Warding the river and the enemy jungle helps your team know where the enemy jungle is and this will help your team make better decisions. Usually you want to do this when the wave is shoved to enemy tower so you do not miss too much cs doing this. If you ever fall behind, you will want to let the minion wave crash to you so you can set up a freeze to safely farm and come back mid game. If you ever do get a lead in lane, you can focus on either continuing to try and smash lane, or if you are post six, just shove waves and roam mid or into enemy jungle to kill enemy jungler, then go back to catch top wave and rinse and repeat. Once you get a lead on Wukong, you need to be able to look to kill other enemies besides your lane opponent and impact your other teammates and help them get leads as well. You can also look to shove top, recall and walk down bot lane and force a play there and tp top lane afterwards. As you can see with a lead on Wukong you have many options to help out your team. Mobility boots will help if you find yourself roaming a lot. Remember to take objectives off of roams as well like rift harold, towers, and dragon.

Mid Lane

Unlike top lane wukong, mid lane wukong only has winning, or skill matchups. Wukong wins most lanes against mages due to being a better trader and he has a stronger combo than assassins like zed. As Wu mid, you always want to be looking to be extremely aggressive, going for trades all the time and trying to kill them with ignite later. Good thing to do against mages is jump in level 1 and get your electrocute off and at that point they will be at half hp. The thing you need to be careful about though is getting poked. Don't be scared when they poke you and play back, they will still be able to poke you no matter what. Once you get a kill in lane, push waves and try to roam bot or top (preferably bot) if you see an oppurtunity. Wukong in the mid lane can have access to roam to a lot of places.

Overall, the goal of your early game is to farm, get a lead, roam to other lanes, and transition to team fights.

Mid/Late game Back to Top

Mid game is your strongest point in the game. Level 11 and duskblade is a very strong point in the game for you.  You want to be abusing this powerspike, by forcing team fights and grouping around objectives. Most of the time you want to be looking for a way to stealth your way in to the enemy backline. By now you should have youmuu's and you should be able to engage a lot easier. You usually want to decoy in and combo the enemy with ultimate and one shot them. Usually you won't want to be engaging and make sure their ADC/AP is vulnerable without protection from their support. Trying to kill an 81.png with a 117.png sitting next to him isn't going to work out by engaging head on. So it is more optimal for someone on your team to engage and then you follow up and kill the backline in the middle or end of the team fight, when the carries and support have used major cooldowns like Ezreal E and Lulu Ult. However, if your team can wombo combo, you can also try to land an AOE ultimate on multiple targets to set up for your team's wombo or go in and ult after you team used their aoe. Another thing you can do is peel for your adc. I would only do this if my adc is stronger than theirs and I am far behind and cannot kill their carries. You can just land Q and Ult the enemy that is on your adc and not only do you cc them, you also make them easier to kill as the armor penetration on the target allows your adc to deal more damage to them. This becomes even better with black cleaver for more armor penetration for your adc.

Remember to keep side lanes pushed and catch big minion waves and push the sidelines out before starting fights. This will keep you ahead in cs and exp while also pressuring the enemy once they have sidelane minions crashing into them. Usually as Wukong I will catch a side lane then come group with my team. Someone on their team will catch the wave that I pushed and then we win the 5v4.

Late game on Wukong is pretty much the same thing as Mid game except the fact is now that baron and Elder dragon are important objectives to contest. Also late game usually most carries will have zhonyas, GA, and locket which will be annoying. Look to fake engages, catch them off surprise, or let your team bait out their cooldowns before going in.
