Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png FlASH IS A MUST! Best summoner spell in the game. Yasuo doesn't have a reliable escape and flash can be used both in offense or defence.

12.png Teleport is a good summoner spell for top lane, it could be used mid but in my opinion there are better options for mid. Allows you to roam around the map and good for objective control.

14.png Ignite is good for both mid and top, but I would usually always take this on mid lane and if I feel like I can kill my top laner early on I will also take in on top.

21.png Pretty good for mid lane, not as good for top in my opinion. I guess this is just personal preference and good against bursty champions like 238.png and 103.png.
3.png Good for both mid and top, I usually take this vs bursty opponents like 238.png and 103.png.

Masteries Back to Top

At the moment, my two personal favorite keystones are Warlord's Bloodlust and Grasp of the Undying

When I pick Warlord's Bloodlust: If my enemy laner is ranged. This means I can lifesteal way better off minions because I probably won't trigger Grasp of the Undying alot. Warlord's Bloodlust is usually picked if you're playing Yasuo mid lane.

When I pick Grasp of the Undying: When my laner is melee. This means I can probably trigger Grasp of the Undying consistently and makes it a better choice then Warlord's Bloodlust.

Graps of the Undying mastery page:

Ferocity:
-Fury
-Feast
-Vampire
-Bounty Hunter

Resolve:
-Recovery
-Tough Skin
-Runic Armor
-Perseverance
-Swiftness
-Grasp of the Undying

As a side note, if you're planning to kill your enemy laner early on then taking Opressor isn't a weird choice, especially if you're maybe premade with your jungler and if he has CC.
Remember your tornado also works with Opressor!

Against a melee laner you probably want to max your yasuoQ.png first and against a ranged laner you probably want to max your yasuoE.png first.

yasuoE.png Has a higher base damage. If you're up against a ranged laner then you won't always be in range to trigger yasuoQ.png hence why this is the better choice.

However, against a melee laner you probably want to max yasuoQ.png because you can keep harassing with it.

If you are really having a hard time against your laner who has projectiles then maxing yasuoW.png is viable because it lowers the cooldown of the wall.

Always put a point in yasuoR.png whenever you can of course.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Standard start.
Defensive start if you're afraid of your enemy laner or feel like you're going to be ganked early on.
Agressive start but not really the best at the moment.
    Defensive start vs AD champions.

Core Items

Statikk is more expensive then Phantom Dancer and is probably better for mid lane then top lane. Phantom Dancer is probably better for top lane because of the passive. It's great for 1v1 scenario's and split pushing. Choose one of them.
    See Statikk Shiv description.
Infinity Edge is probably better with Warlord's Bloodlust or when ahead alot. Trinity Force is probably better if you have Grasp of the Undying. It doesn't matter if you chose SS or PD. Choose one.
    See Infinity Edge description
After you chose between PD and SS and IE and Trinity Force.

Situational Items

Can be handy if your team has someone like Tahm Kench or Thresh, but it's not often picked in the current meta.
Vs. fed ADC in the enemy team.
    Vs. heavy AP teams.
    Stacking armor? No problem.
    Vs. tanky teams
Can be handy for split pushing.
Always buy one of these elixirs when you are full build and have leftover gold.
Currently my go-to armor defensive item.
Always good. The passive is so good and if the enemy has AP damage then this is most of the times a must.
If you need more damage but also MR.

VS

Ahri

Easy
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

If you place your wind wall correctly you can block everything of her.

VS

Akali

Hard
Start: long sword + 3 health potions.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

I usually lose my lane versus her, I don't know what makes it so hard but it is just very hard.

VS

Annie

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

Skill dependant matchup, this can go either very good or very bad.

VS

Brand

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

Brand has very high burst but if you can manage to block / dodge his stun then you should be okay.

VS

Cassiopeia

Hard
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

Cassiopeia can place her abilitys over your wall so you have to be very good at dodging else you are going to back alot of times.

VS

Diana

Easy
Start: long sword + 3 health potions.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

If you block her Q with your wall she cannot dash onto you and you will win the trades.
However, her Q is on a lower cooldown then your wind wall so watch out for her when your wall is on cooldown.

VS

Fizz

Medium
Start: long sword + 3 health potions.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

Your wall stops his ultimate from travelling, but it doesn't remove his ult, nuff said.
If you do not block his ult, well then.. yeah.

VS

Galio

Easy
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

His passive goes with magic resist, and you are attack damage so his passive will be useless against you.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - W - E.

If you can manage to keep killing his turrets this will not be a big problem, you also have your wall for all of his spells, including turrets.

VS

Karma

Easy
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

You can block her Q which is her main damage and poking ability.

VS

Karthus

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

Your wind wall is useless and he can slow you and keep kiting you.
He cannot escape from you tho.

VS

Kassadin

Medium
Start: long sword + 3 health potions.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

He can jump over your wall.
If the player is good on Kassadin, this might be a pain for you, if not then it will probably be a pain for him.

VS

Katarina

Medium
Start: long sword + 3 health potions.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

Unless you have a stacked Q when she engages on you with her ultimate, you cannot disrupt her ultimate. She can also jump to you and it is hard to place your wall.
You can beat her in lane but you have to play correctly.

VS

Kayle

Hard
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

I can just tell you there is a VERY little chance you are going to win versus her in lane.
When I play Yasuo, Kayle is banned or there is already another mid laner in the enemy team. Else it is maybe better to dodge when you are versus her.

VS

Kennen

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

A skill dependant matchup.
You can block his Q which is his main poke ability but that is everything.

VS

LeBlanc

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

If LeBlanc plays correctly she can beat you.
You can block her Q and E if she just casts it onto you but if she first uses W on you then you are probably dead.

VS

Lulu

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

She can put her pet on you and then shoot her Glitter Lance onto you. But if she tries to just shoot Glitter Lance on you without her pet then you can block it.
I say this is a skill dependant matchup slightly in your favor.

VS

Lux

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

You can block her spells except her ultimate. But if your wall is down and you get snared then you are probably dead.

VS

Malzahar

Hard
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

He can just cast everything at you and you can't do anything about it.
You also are melee so be prepared to go back, alot.

VS

Mordekaiser

Hard
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

Mordekaiser doesn't care about your Wind Wall and can ignore your poke, unless he is not good at Mordekaiser you aren't going to win this lane.

VS

Morgana

Easy
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

Just block her Q and you will be fine, if she ults on you then try to get near her minions, so you can dash on them to get out of her ult range.

VS

Nidalee

Easy
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

What can I say about this...
Just wind wall all day and she isn't going to hit you once.

VS

Orianna

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

Skill dependant matchup. Nothing else to say about this.

VS

Riven

Hard
Start: cloth armor + 5 health potions.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

You are dead. x_x
Just don't go vs Riven in lane.

VS

Ryze

Hard
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

He can just poke you all day and if you try to come at him he just snares you and keeps kiting and poking you.

VS

Syndra

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

She can poke you all day but if she misses her stun, and still tries to ult you then you can block it.
If you play this correctly then you can win this matchup.

VS

Talon

Medium
Start: long sword + 3 health potions.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

He has high burst but he is just like you an AD assassin, you can block his W with your wall but this matchup can go either way.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just block everything he has.

VS

Veigar

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

If he is smart and doesn't put his stun around you but casts it so that you will stand on the edge of it, then he will probably one shot you. If he puts the stun around you then just do not walk in it but try to not be stunned and block his incoming damage with your wall.

VS

Vel'Koz

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

Skill dependant matchup.
You can block his Q but he can still burst you down.
You can win and he can win, really skill dependant.

VS

Viktor

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

If you get stunned you are probably dead, else you can block his Q and dodge his E so he has only his ultimate to kill you, which is not going to work.

VS

Xerath

Easy
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

If you can block/dodge his stun you will probably be able to win this lane. His ult can be very good tho if he hits all 3 of them.

VS

Yasuo

Medium
Start: long sword + 3 health potions.
Max: R - Q - E - W.

Best player wins! :D
But yeah you are obviously better.

VS

Zed

Medium
Start: long sword + 3 health potions.
Max: R - Q - E/W - W/E.

If he gets over your wall, he can probably burst you down.
If he doesn't hit his Q's on you then you really cut his damage and killing potential.

VS

Ziggs

Medium
Start: dorans blade + 1 health potion.
Max: R - Q - W - E.

If you can dodge his bombs and block some with your wind wall then you should be okay and be able to kill him after level 6.
This matchup can go either way.

Gameplay Back to Top

An agressive or passive playstyle depends on each person, and it works both on Yasuo.
Generally I like to be a little agressive in lane when I know I am safe, or not going to die by going in agressive.
Always ward your lane and know where the enemy jungler is.

EARLY GAME:

In the early game, Yasuo is really not as bad as people say.
Of course, your mid and late game is stronger but that does not mean your early game is weak.
Try to go for a kill when you can, this means you probably have to poke the enemy down to a certain point when you can just all in and destroy him, but be careful with this because if you could burst the enemy down, your opponent might also know that and the jungler can be in bush next to you.

ROAMING:

Once you reach level 6 and you have your ult available you can start roaming to other lanes, I often roam to the bot lane since your support probably has some crowd control and can lock them down so you can just dish out the damage and earn some kills/assist which also helps the bot lane with winning their lane.
You can also roam to top, but it might be a little harder to get a kill because the top laner is often a tank / bruiser.
If you know where the enemy jungler is, you can also try to pick him off, but it can be dangerous if the jungler is close to a lane because he can just ping his teammates and they come to kill you.

TEAMFIGHT:

What you want to do in teamfights is shutting down the enemy mid laner or AD Carry.
Of course, if you can kill anyone it is great but the mid laner and the ADC are your main focus.
If there is no way you are going to get past those big tanks / bruisers, be safe an protect your ADC, or just dish out as much damage as you can.
Ask for some extra protection from your team, since you are big a damage dealer for your team, and probably you are not too tanky.

LATE GAME:

Late game you can probably 1v1 most players in the game and if you are fed or well farmed, you will have insane damage.

For more specific information against a champion, see the matchups tab and click on the champion you want to know more about.

Pros and cons Back to Top

PROS:

-High damage output.
-Strong during all stages of the game.
-Can counter many champions due to his amazing wind wall.
-Very strong automatically triggering shield.
-Low cooldowns.
-(In my opinion) good for SoloQ.
-Easy farming.
-Gets 2x more critical chance from every item.
-Can use E to escape, chase and dodge.
-Does not use mana.
-Long range on R.
-Good teamfighter if you catch some people in your knock up and ultimate.
-Good duelist.
-Can snowball hard.
-Can pull off some really fancy plays.

CONS:

-Can be hard to play and hard to master.
-If you miss your knockup then you can be screwed if no one else has a knock up.
-Can be ganked easily if not close to enemy minions/monsters.
-Squishy.
-No sustain.

Tips and tricks Back to Top

TIPS:

-When ganking or going into a fight in general, try to stack your Q so you have your knock up ready.
-Use your E on a minion to close the gap between you and your opponent and then when he starts running away, you can E to him and cut him down.
-Yasuo has 2x as much critical chance with all sources he gets it from, so also from runes and masteries. *hint hint*
-The cooldown on your E is so low that you can E most minions in a wave, so this is very good for cutting down your opponent or escaping.
-Your E stacks with damage everytime you dash through an enemy unit, so try to hit E first on a few minions and then use it on a champion.

TRICKS:

Those tricks are hard to pull off, I would NOT try to do it when chasing or escaping since they do not always work if you do not stand 100% correctly.

-You can cast your wind wall and Q (tornado) at the same time, this makes the wind wall cancel the Q or Q tornado's animation. Good for catching people off guard.

-You can use the raptor's to get over the wall, you have to be close to the crimson raptor.
You can also get from the wall closest to the blue turret to the crimson raptor with vision on the raptors, just Q the crimson raptor for vision.
Another raptor trick is to get from the right raptor over the wall, or from the wall to the right raptor.
Yasuo Raptor Dash 2.png

-You can get from the small wolf to the other side of the wall, you have to stand close the small wolf.
Yasuo Wolf Dash.png

-You can get from the blue sentry to the other side of the wall, you have to stand close and slightly to the right of the blue sentry.
Yasuo Blue Dash.png

-You can get from the small golem to the other side of the wall. You have to stand close to the small golem.
You can also get from the other side of the wall to the small golem by having vision on the golems, just Q him once.Yasuo Golem Dash.png

-You can get from the gromp to the other side of the wall, you have to stand close to the gromp.
You can also get from the other side of the wall to the gromp if you have vision over him, just Q him once.
Yasuo Gromp Dash.png

-You can get from the small red minion to the other side of the wall, you have to stand close to the small red minion.

Yasuo Guide Warrijur.png

Platinum IV season 5.png

Hello I am Jurre and I play on the Europe West server.
This is my first written guide ever made.
As you can see my most games played at the moment are with Yasuo. (Of course this is probably a while ago when you are reading this guide, but you can check out my profile anytime.)
I have been maining him at the mid lane and I really enjoy him since the moment he was released.
I bought the bundle the day he came out and have been playing him alot since then.
If you still have questions about my guide or something else, feel free to add me ingame and ask them, or just leave a comment. :)
I do also have a YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLEXZuS413mDKjucChXWmkw

As of 30-4-2016 I do not play Yasuo that much anymore but I'm starting to get a feel of him again, the guide is decently updated but the matchups might be a bit bad and itemization might be a bit off. I will probably update this later on!
