Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png and 14.png gives you more kill potential and early lane pressure.

4.png and 3.png gives you a lot of duelling potential and late game it makes the adc weak and shuts down the assassins.

4.png and 12.png If you want more map presence and you are sure you can win your lane without 14.png or 3.png.

You can also take 7.png or 21.png in place of exhaust if there are more than 2 carries and no assassin, but i don't really recommend it.

Masteries Back to Top

Depending on your play style there are 2+ pages of mastery that work on Yasuo.

Firstly, you should always put 18 points in ferocity, it's just the best tree for Yasuo and offerrs the most stats.

Here we have to choose from Fervor of Battle and Warlord's Bloodlust.

If you plan on going Tanky Yasuo build(I'll talk about it in the build section) then I recommend taking Fervor of Battle as it adds 112 damage late game on hit/Q, that's huge. I consider it better than Warlord's Bloodlust in this case because it's extremely easy to stack on Yasuo(Every champion hit by Q gives 2 stacks, it's considered a basic attack)

If you plan on going Assasin/Carry Yasuo build then I recommend taking Warlord's Bloodlust so you have sustain before the first life steal item(which usually comes after Statikk Shiv + Infinity Edge) and so that you have even more after it.

Start Q against Melee champions and E against Ranged champions.

I max E first and not Q because :

1. E gives more potential damage and same base damage per point.
2. E lower cooldown while Q remains the same --> More mobility and also passive refreshes more often.
3. E is sure damage (can't be normally dodged) while Q is a skill-shot.

Passive - Gives Yasuo a shield when his flow reaches 100% that disappears after 1 second. Also it doubles Yasuo's crit chance but reduces it's damage by 10%.

Normal crit - 180% damage

IE crit - 225% damage

Q - Yasuo thrusts his sword where the cursor is aiming and deals damage in that area.

His 3rd Q throws a whirlwind towards his cursor and knock ups any enemy that makes contact with it.

Tips: Can be used for kiting

You can basic attack then Q afterwards to quickly dish out some burst damage.

Can be combined with E to do damage in an circle around him.

His 3rd Q gives you roughly enough time to basic attack the target once(twice with SS, Botrk and Atk Spd runes) before he can do anything.

W - Yasuo creates a wind wall in the direction where your cursor is aimed at and blocks most projectiles in the game.

This ability has a lot of potential and requires you to be focused on the enemy animation(as to see what spells they cast and when), also remember that you can save teammates with this skill. Late game be sure to not have it on CD when a teamfight is about to begin.

E - Yasuo dashes through a targeted enemy while damaging him/her.

This is the ability that gives him a lot of mobility(when enemies are around) to dodge skill-shots or to get near the carries so you can take them out fast.

Tip: To get close to your target you don't have to always E him first, try to look for others enemies on which you can dash to get closer to your target so in case he/she uses any dash/blink you can follow him.

R - Yasuo blinks to airborne enemies and suspends them in the air for roughly 1 seconds.

Most important thing about this ultimate is to know when to use it, as it can make or break games. Some good combos are made with 61.png54.png and/or 12.png.

Remember you have enough time to basic attack the target once(twice with SS, Botrk and Atk Spd runes) and ult if you knock the target up yourself.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Against lanes which you can handle
Against lanes with high ad poke and all in potential
Against lanes that relies on basic attacks and single targeted spells to do damage

Core Items

Take Statikk Shiv if you want to play assasin style(followed by Infinity Edge) and take Trinity Force(followed by Phantom Dancer) if you want to play tanky style
Following the build paths I mentioned earlier both bring you to 100% crit, while one makes you tankier and one does more damage
Tanky build path, pick between which would help you the most in the current situation(you should almost always take botrk, not necessarily first, but you should take it)
Ninja Tabi - Against a ad or basic attack relaible team comp; Mercury Threads: Against high CC/ap team comp Boots of Swiftness: Against high mobility team comps
Assasin build path, take the new Last Whisper when they have 2+ tanks, QSS when they have cc that will kill you, Sterak's Gage when you get bursted, Botrk when you need the active, Death Dancer for more survivability, Bloodthirster for more damage

Situational Items

Replacing BOTRK in the tanky build path if the enemy has a heavy ap damage dealer
Against some really hard lanes you might want to start with a defensive item(if taking the tanky path). Ex: Renekton

VS

Aatrox

Medium

You can block his E (the slow) and when he Q's you (the flying animation is pretty clear) just dodge it through a minion or through him. Don't fight for more than you should, remember that Aatrox likes to extend a fight as much as possible. Try to burst him.

Get 14.png here as it weakens his healing. If you plan to all-in him then use ignite when he is at about 50% health. Also start 1055.png for the sustain.

VS

Ahri

Medium
Your wall can block all her spells, but after 6 think twice about using your wall when she is around(keep it for her ultimate). Bait her E and ultimate(after 6) and she is a easy target.

Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png(Prefer ignite in this match-up).

VS

Akali

Medium

Skill match up that favors her.

To win this lane you need to get to level 2 first and get an early lead. Fight smart lvl 3-5 and you can actually beat her at level 6 if she has only 1 stack on her ult and you have your ignite/exhaust up. If you lose lane you can grab a early 3155.png after/before 3087.png/3078.png.

Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png.

VS

Anivia

Medium
Dodge her Q or block it at all cost, if she hits you with it then her E will destroy you. After 6 you HAVE to dodge her Q(if equal/behind her) and block her E.
Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png(especially if you know you can't dodge her Q).

VS

Annie

Medium
Engage whenever possible on her early(except when she has her stun) and try to get a kill. Don't fight after 6 if you don't have a big lead or  3.png.
You might dodge her W/R if you press E like crazy but it's highly unlikely(you can still try though). Early 3155.png is recommended if you fall behind.

Start 1055.png, take 3.png or 14.png

VS

Azir

Medium
When he uses Q to farm/poke engage on him as that is mostly his damage(juke his soldiers and block his ultimate with wall).

Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png

His ultimate stops when it hits your wall(doesn't disappear).

VS

Brand

Easy

Your wall can block his Q, the flying particles from E, and his R. You lose this matchup if you get stunned. Try to dodge his W. Easy matchup overall(don't forget to ward your lane).

Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium
You can block her W and dodge her Q. If she hits her Q you need to put your windwall and juke around it to have a chance to win the trade. Don't fight when she hits Q and your wall is down. Early 3155.png works if really behind.

Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Play passive and wait for a gank OR go aggressive if you are sure you can zone him(remember to ward lane). Whoever gets a lead will stomp the other one.

Start 1055.png, take 12.png or 3.png.

VS

Diana

Medium

Play aggressive early and try to zone her(ward lane). Your wall blocks her Q and W.

Don't trade when she has W up(bait it). After 6 if you don't have a lead block her Q or stay under tower(after core build you beat her if equal). 3155.png recommended early if behind.

Start 1075.png, take 14.png or 3.png or 12.png.

VS

Fiora

Medium
Bait her W and engage on her, try to make the trades longer(that means you need to remember her E and W cooldown) as the new fiora is mostly about bursting the target and doesn't have a lot of sustained damage like you. Buy 3047.png early as it reduces a lot of her damage. Don't fight inside her ult and predict her Q in lane(you can dodge it).

Start 1055.png, take 3.png or 14.png.

VS

Kassadin

Medium
Play aggressive early and make him fall behind, at 6 be careful as he might be able to win a duel if you don't have a lead. Early 3155.png is recommended if getting really behind.
Start 1055.png, take 14.png.

VS

Katarina

Medium
Play aggressive and smart, don't take unnecessary damage as if she gets a early kill on you she will snowball hard. If engaged by her use W in her direction and E through her(after 6) so you can block all damage coming from her ultimate. Go in whenever her E is on cooldown or no target available for her to jump on.
Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png.

VS

LeBlanc

Medium
You need to take a lead early and predict when and where she will use W so you can dodge it. Dodge/wall her E at all cost or she will burst you down. Early 3155.png is recommended if behind.
Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png.

VS

Lulu

Medium

Play around her cooldowns and make sure to not make any big mistakes. Lulu snowballs extremely hard so if you're getting behind you should wait for your jungler to come.

Start 1054.png/1055.png, take 12.png.

VS

Morgana

Medium
Play extremely aggressive and smart(ward your lane). When you engage on her be prepared to wall her Q and remember that if she E's a target that is in air you can't use ultimate on that target. She will try to push you to the tower and roam(don't let her do that).
Start 1055.png, take 14.png.

VS

Renekton

Hard

You should go tanky path against this champion. I recommend starting 1054.png and a tank item so he can't burst you. You have to play smart so he doesn't kill you early. He snowballs extremely hard, for you to win trades you should learn his W's cooldown and also his Q's cooldown.

VS

Riven

Medium

You have the upper hand level's 1-2, after this she starts to beat you. Take care of her lvl 6 as she will try to all-in you then. You can try to fight her AFTER you got your first item and when there are minions around. Juke her Q/W and block her R(she might try 4.png->R so be prepared)

Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png

VS

Syndra

Medium

You can dodge Q, W and E and your wall can block her W and R. Don't get stunned as that will lead to your death. Play aggressive and smart(ward your lane).

Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png(prefer ignite).

VS

Talon

Medium

Talon is a pretty easy match up as he is weak-ish early game. Play very aggressive(Ward lane) and remember that your wall blocks his W and R. 3047.png early is recommended.

Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png.

VS

Tryndamere

Medium
Zone him early so he doesn't stack his passive. After 6+ fight him only when you have minions around so you can dash. Early 3047.png is recommended.
Start 1055.png, take 3.png or 14.png

VS

Vel'Koz

Easy

You can block his Q, W and E with your wall. Also to deal with his ult you can use your 3rd Q to knock him up OR e through him so he has to cancel it. Engage whenever you feel like. Take care of ganks and ward a lot.

Start 1055.png, take 14.png.

VS

Vladimir

Medium

VS

Xerath

Medium

You can dodge everything he throws at you with E. Your W can block only his E . Play aggressive early game(ward lane). When you engage be prepared to W when you are near him(He might stun you otherwise).

Start 1055.png, take 14.png.

VS

Yasuo

Medium

The one with the more skill will win ofc. For this match up you need to know how to juke his Q properly as that will deny him a lot of damage, also remember that your W can block his Q(3rd Q from distance) and if he comes to E->Q you then E through him and you should dodge it.

Start 1055.png, take 4.png and 3.png.

VS

Zed

Medium

Skill match up, try to dodge his Q and E. You might want to use 4.png to escape any damage he might do when he uses his R if you can't use your E. Try to rush lvl 2 and engage on him while he doesn't have his shadow.

Start 1055.png, take 14.png or 3.png.

Introduction Back to Top

Hello everyone, my name is Sebastian and this is my first guide featuring Yasuo, the Unforgiven. I've been playing league since the beginning of season 4 and since then I've worked my way up to diamond in soloq and challenger in 3v3 and 5v5. Normally i am a jungle main but after a long break i decided to pick up Yasuo after seeing his immense potential. It's important to recognize the opportunities you have with this champion as it enables plays that no other can make. He excels in dueling and skirmishes(he's good in teamfight only with a reliable team-comp)

Here are the main Pros and Cons that Yasuo has(Assassin style):

PROS:

  • Extremely Mobile
  • High damage output
  • Manaless
  • One of the best lvl 1-2 cheese
  • Easy to farm with
  • Assassin that brings cc
  • Wall that can protect his team and deny the enemy Adc and Apc in teamfights
  • 50% bonus armor pen from ult

CONS:

  • Squishy
  • Requires good positioning
  • Minion and map awareness is extremely important(even more for Yasuo)
  • Shut down by CC
  • No knock-ups on your team might give you a hard time focussing the enemy adc/apc
  • No ranged waveclear for defending opposing turret sieges
Basically Yasuo is one of the quickest, deadliest and strongest assassin in the game. I feel like Riot did a good job with this champion as he has a pretty big skill floor and even a bigger skill cap, and not everyone can play him well.

If anyone wants to add me in game to ask me anything feel free to do so, my summoner name is E5 BulletProof (EUNE) and Hi Im Randy(EUW).

Abilities that count as knock ups:

How to play in different stages of game Back to Top

GENERALLY:

Early game:

Play aggressive and make the enemy laner fall behind in farm(also keep warding your lane so you don't get ganked). If Yasuo gets a lead in a game he usually keeps it and will sometimes carry the game himself; that being said remember that Yasuo has a extremely good lvl 2-3 cheese and can usually win the lane if he knows how to press this advantage. Look for outplays most of the time when the enemy jungler comes and you have 3087.png(and ahead of the enemy laner).

Mid game:

If you are fed then split-push as the enemy team needs to send at least 3 players to take you down and while doing that you leave your team to push the enemies 4v2(usually meaning tower and some kills). Mid game for you starts usually when you get 3087.png3031.png and 3144.png3155.png(sometimes 3155.png is much more needed). You can leave the early dragons(1-3) to the enemy team and just split push top and get the inhibitor tower(or at least put pressure on that lane so the enemy team sends players to you). Also having tp usually makes this strategy overwhelming for the enemy team(participate in dragon fights then tp top).

Late game:

Late game you should usually group with your team(if you have combo) and try not to engage by yourself most of the time. Locking the carries with a knockup usually means a won game for your team. Also remember to not waste your wall before a big team fight and to learn to position it and around it.
