Summoner Spells Back to Top

Ignite for kill lanes and Exhaust to counter assassins and high burst targets, Cleanse against champions with CC that you will want to avoid in lane phase and at level 6 and if you plan on split pushing (which is one of yasuo's strong suits) TP can also be a viable options

Masteries Back to Top

You can shift around some points in the offense tree such as taking bounty hunter if your team has low CC and you feel like you wont be able to use the passive well enough, you can also take natural talent for a tiny bit of extra damage but for the most part vampirism is much more useful to mitigate for the build path not including early lifesteal.

The idea of this 18/0/12 page is that you want Fervor as it is one of the best (if not the best) options for yasuo for most of the game, and you want points in resolve since the first 12 points offer a lot of value for looking to have stronger early laning which is where yasuo tends to struggle (especially in mid lane against all the ranged harass he is likely to run into).

The reason you want to start E is so that it's super easy to last hit and be mobile in lane, however in some lane matchups starting Q can be done to push the lane faster and trade better with your lane opponent at level 1 (this is usually never an option in mid lane however). Afterwards you want to max out your E since it scales much better with rank than your Q since your Q is treated as an auto attack for the most part and maxing E reduces the "lock out" time on casting E against the same target for a 2nd time. You only want 1 point in W since it does not scale well with ranks at all, in some cases against enemies with no projectiles (or none worth blocking you can even ignore this skill for quite a few levels).

And of course you always want to put a rank in your ultimate whenever possible.

For Yasuo, your early core rush is a Phantom Dancer since it synergizes incredibly well with your Q (more attack speed to lower its CD and more crit). After you build Phantom Dancer you want to go IE, with these 2 items completed you will have 100% Crit chance and be very strong.

Depending on how the game is going at this point you have a bunch of options for your next 3 items, typically you will want to get some items that mix damage and defense in order to get a bit of survivability since you rush such heavy damage items. If you are really ahead or the enemy has no way of stopping you from split pushing Trinity Force can be a massive boost in dueling potential however at some point you NEED to include some lifesteal in your build or at the very least pick up a second dorans blade if you dont intend on grabbing life steal.

By the end of the game you should have plenty of damage and should have at least 1 strong defensive item (probably a GA) in order to survive the teamfights required to finish the game.

VS

Ahri

Hard

Ahri can do a lot to kite you and evade your knockup charge. Hard matchup; look to farm but if you're able to land a knock-up, definitely take advantage of it. Be sure to wall her Q and Charm if possible.

VS

Cassiopeia

Hard

Cassio is extremely good at taking extended trades and her ultimate gives her enough initial damage to force you out of lane very easily, she scales just as well if not better than Yasuo since she is able to buy 6 AP items late game. Even in the best case scenario you should be looking to farm as much as possible in lane and look to start splitting the map since you will struggle to fight Cassio for most of the game.

VS

Kassadin

Easy

Play aggressively on Kass, don't just stand around and farm and let him chip you down with his Q for free. Dash through minions to gap close and see if you can get a few Q's landed; use your W to cancel out his Q if possible.

VS

Orianna

Medium

If Orianna starts E, start Q, if she starts Q, you start E. Basically what happens is, if she starts E she can't really harass you, and you can safely farm with Q. In the case she starts Q, you can harass her pretty heavily with E as you can dodge her Q and get in good damage. As the lane goes on, she becomes stronger and stronger, and especially if she gets a blue buff, she'll likely be able to poke you down a good amount. Hopefully you have a Vampiric Scepter or she doesn't punish you hard, but it's hard to win 1v1 as you'll get ganked probably if you go too aggressive. So be smart about the lane, and just try to farm, kill if you see their jungler somewhere but otherwise try to farm.

VS

Syndra

Hard

Start Boots of Speed vs Syndra as she's very skillshot reliant and if you're able to juke her Qs and trade effectively, you'll slowly win the lane. Start E and do your best to juke her Qs at level 1, you can E through creeps and through her if she's out of position or missed a Q. The early levels 1-3 aren't too bad, but as she starts leveling up and hits 6, she has a ton of kill pressure vs you. Also if you ever get ganked, it's pretty rough for you as she has good CC. Do note though, that you can block her Q E combo as long as you Wind Wall is in front of the ball.

VS

Zed

Medium

Really depends if you're able to windwall his shurikens, if you can you should be able to win the matchup. As the game progresses, you should outscale in terms of duelling potential.

VS

Ziggs

Medium

Kind of a farm land, try not to get shoved into tower and to use your windwall to occasionally block the Zigg's landed bombs. If possible, E through minions to gap close and try to land a few Q's to harass.

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

With Yasuo, if you plan on using your E + Q combo to knock up an enemy, you want to remember to squeeze in an auto-attack right before you cast your Q. You have a tiny grace period where you can auto attack the enemy right after your E and then cancel the remainder of the animation with your ultimate. Squeeze in as much damage as you can, especially if you have a ton of items and you really hurt.

During early game trading, you should look to use your E's to dash towards enemy ranged champions to get Q's and autos off on them; you actually trade quite well early on but you need to gap-close and not be afraid otherwise you get poked down. Make sure you have an escape route planned out (a chain of minions) which you'll consecutively dash through in order to get out after making your trade.

As many people already know, your ultimate (Last Breath) procs off any sort of displacement or knockup effect. If your team has a big AOE knockup champion (Malhpite, Alistar, Zyra, etc.) you want to let them initiate the fight and get the big knock up for you before you ultimate, cause you'll be able to lock up many more targets that way.

Many people don't remember that after using your ultimate you gain a significant amount of armor penetration against bonus armor (40%) so you want to definitely use your ultimate sooner rather than later in duels in order to get that extra damage.

A very difficult skill to pull off with Yasuo is weaving your autos into your Q cast sequences. Try your best to auto attack the enemy before you cast Q (try to auto attack and then cancel the animation with a Q cast whenever possible, in order to maximize DPS).

To regenerate your Flow (shield), it's better to run in a long path rather than pacing back and fourth in order to regenerate it; long paths regenerate it faster than short pacing.

Good Wind Wall usage is key to winning team fights. It's a bit difficult to say what exactly you should look to block but it'll always be situational. It's not a bad idea though, to try to block ultimate spells of enemy champions (True Shot Barrage, Super Mega Death Rocket, Tidal Wave, etc.). However, single target stunning/snaring skill shots are deadly as well if they landed, such as Morgana Binding, use your judgement to decide what you want to block but make sure you are at least blocking something!

Using your Wind Wall when sieging an enemy tower is a great way to mitigate damage, get free damage off the tower and deter the enemy from initiating on your team.
