Summoner Spells Back to Top

Flash 4.png is good in any ways: to be aggressive or just to escape from a gank.
Teleport 12.png is really good. You can play aggressively by teleporting onto the botlane and make everyone snowball.

In the 5.22 patch, all is about snowballing now. Taking an ignite 14.png can be an advantage on the lane.

Masteries Back to Top

[6.04] Grasp of the Undying is essential for toplane. It gives what Yasuo needs in laning phase: sustain. And this, combined with his 1v1 potential, makes him even stronger.

But Warlord's Bloodlust can be taken tho. It gives him good sustain aswell. Here's the mastery page:

With Yasuo toplane, you prefer max your QyasuoQ.png first. Maxing EyasuoE.png is better in a poke phase with some squishy AP Carry.
But if you're against a squishy toplaner, it's free for you to max your E if you feel like.
At your level 3, you can take your Wind Wall yasuoW.pngif you're against skill shoter.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    An aggressive start.
If you're afraid of the enemy jungler or of a good early toplaner.
This is the worst starter you can do with Yasuo. It gives you stustain of course, but you really need HP pull with Doran's blade/shield.

Core Items

I don't like Berserker's greaves on Yasuo, it gives him some attack speed that he doesn't need. I much prefer Tabi or Mercury which depends on enemy team.
As Yasuo top, you'd rather build some tankiness for you and your team, your core build is enough in terms of damage.
Typical full build most of the time.
Core build damage. I think Infinity Edge is better than Trinity now because of its attack damage given.
After testing PD, I realized a good potential in this item but I still think it's not enough. And Statikk has been buffed in 6.01 on minions damage (+120%), so I think it's still better to build Statikk Stiv. Concerning Sunfire Cape, it has also been buffed (+10 armor) and infighting damage is really great.
Trinity Force is still viable to me. But for now, I don't really know when to build it effectively.

Situational Items

In a full AD comp against you, you can build Thornmail even if I don't particularly like this item but it can be interesting. A Hexdrinker can also be good for hard AP laner and AP jungler like Vladimir-Elise.

The Bloodthirster 3072.png is better than the BoTRK 3153.png imo. It gives you more lifesteal, more attack damage and you don't really need the BoTRK's passive in this snwoballing meta.
Honestly, I've never used Hexdrinker 3155.png on Yasuo and I don't see his utility. But you can use it if you're getting bullied against a strong AP.

As I said, I'm still testing Phantom Dancer and Sunfire Cape. Honestly, both are good, really good.
Yasuo has a good gapcloser, and the Sunfire Cape has a good synergy with him but I'm still wondering if it's worth to take it rather than the Dead Man's Plate.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

It depends on the early game. In a way, you can burst down Cho'Gath in early because of his weakness. Otherwise, he will scale and will become way too tanky for you.

VS

Darius

Medium

The new Darius match-up isn't that difficult. If you didn't play Yasuo enough, it could be difficult to handle this match-up but you just need to bait his Q and then, you can trade him and go away with your E.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Hard

WIth the buff of Mundo recently, it became difficult for Yasuo to outdamage him with his new E. Just ask your jungler to come in early game and to make you snowball the lane and it won't be a real problem to you.

VS

Fiora

Medium

A skilled match-up. It will depend on skills of each of you. Try not to let her beat you with her passive and bait her Q. The one who takes the first kill will usually snowball the lane.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

Easy match-up for Yasuo. Gangplank isn't strong early on so enjoy this advantage by poking him with your combo E-Q-E. Your E can avoid his barrels easily.

VS

Garen

Hard

Garen is way too tanky for Yasuo. Just wait for your jungler to come and keep checking your botlane to get an opportunity to teleport and to get 1 or 2 kills and then dragon.

VS

Gnar

Easy

Gnar is squishy in early so take advantage from that to harass him with your combo after doing the camp.

VS

Hecarim

Medium

Hecarim can be difficult depending on his level. If he rushes Trinity, you should be fine and abuse his weakness early on.

VS

Illaoi

Medium

Illaoi has no cc in her kit, but she has high based damage so be careful. If you get hit by her Q illaoiQ.png few times, it would be over if you're getting combo'd. She hasn't been nerfed in 5.24, so she can outscale you if she's good.
Avoid her E illaoiE.png with your Wind Wall yasuoW.png or side steps. This ability is overpowered.

VS

Irelia

Medium

As Yasuo, you don't want to give Irelia a free kill. You need to ward your lane and not to get ganked by the enemy jungler. Don't let Irelia stun you with her E.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

Medium match-up. It only depends on J4's aggro and on your jukes. If he can't poke you with his Q jarvanivdragonstrike.png, you should be fine and trade him when his cooldowns are down.

VS

Jax

Easy
Jax is really weak in early game. All you have to do is to punish him everytime he's trying to last-hit. When he's starting to trade you with his E jaxcounterstrike.png , you have 2 possibilities :
  • you can poke him with your Q yasuoQ.png and E yasuoE.png
  • you can avoid his stun by using your E yasuoE.png in minions and trade him back

Both ways are good and it depends on the situation, your HP and his HP.

VS

Malphite

Easy

You can't kill the rock but he can't kill you. Just farm and keep watching your botlane to teleport and to get 1 or 2 kills.

VS

Maokai

Medium

Maokai has an infinite sustain, and he still has some damages. If you don't have the advantage in the trades, just farm up and you'll outscale him. Mercury's treads is recommanded.

VS

Nasus

Easy

It will depend on Nasus. If he's smart, he will take a Cloth armor with 4 potions and sustain until the end. But your abilities can make him to back couple of time.
Punish him when he's stacking and everything should be alright.

VS

Olaf

Easy

Olaf is easy to handle early on even if he has one of the best early in the game. Dodge his Q olafaxethrowcast.png and it should be fine in the trades.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

Pantheon is a pain in the *ss. He can harass you, stun you, and kill you easily.
Start 1029.png + 2003.png recommanded.

VS

Poppy

Hard

Op sh*t champion. She will just be too tanky for you and deal you massive damage. Ban her.

VS

Quinn

Hard

Quinn is indescribable, this match up is so boring. Her Q quinnQ.png is really annoying, her E quinnE.png can kite you easily if there's no minions to dash on. Wait for an opportunity to kill her, or wait for your jungler to come.

VS

Renekton

Hard

Renekton has really high damage early on so don't try to trade him. Your level 1 is stronger than his own so try to poke him as much as you can because he will rekt you when he will be 2. But you outscale him in late so just farm and wait for your items.

VS

Rengar

Medium

Rengar is weak early on. He will hide in the bush and just farm with his passive. Put a ward in the bush and harass/punish him when he tries to last-hit.

VS

Riven

Medium

Skilled match-up. Once again, it depends on skills of each of you both. But as Yasuo, you can block her Wind Slash with your Wind Wall with the right timing. Try to avoid her dashes with yours in her minions.

VS

Shen

Easy

This match-up is the same as Malphite's one. You can't kill the ninja but he can't kill you. So just farm up and wait for your mid-late game.

VS

Singed

Easy

Singed is an extremely easy match-up once you get your Statikk Shiv. Just let him proxy and wait for your jungler to kill him with you and it will be over for him.

VS

Trundle

Medium

Trundle is easy if you know how to play against him. You just need to keep some attention of his cooldowns and not to be surprised of his ult. Bait his Q trundleQ.png before all-in him.

VS

Tryndamere

Hard

Tryndamere is hard if he gets the advantage in the first trade. If he crits you in a trade, your lane will be over so try to dance in his minions and poke him. Don't let him a chance to auto attack you.

VS

Vladimir

Easy

Vladimir is an easy match-up for Yasuo because you can dash. Just E him, Q him and auto-attack him few times and back off using your E to disengage.

Tips & Tricks Back to Top

  • Let's talk about the tornado. You have many ways to use it properly.
To gapclose, you would prefer E yasuoE.png and Q yasuoQ.png the opponent to have him everytime.
It also works with a basic Q yasuoQ.png

Just like this :
1449248677-screen02.png

Then, there is a very powerful tornado combo with Yasuo that I've not seen much: Tornado-Flash.
It's simple, let's say you do the Flash-Tornado combo, the enemy sees your flash and can easily avoid your tornado by flashing too. But avoiding a Tornado-Flash is more difficult and requires more reflexes.
To do it, you need to cast your tornado and during the tornado's casting time, flash and enjoy your free kill.
I still have no video for the moment, but I'll get a new computer as soon as possible, and make more examples.

  • Now, a tip with your ult.

With Yasuo, your DPS is really important. While you hit your tornado, you can AA once to increase your damage and then ult.

Pros & Cons Back to Top

  • Pros :

- high mobility when well-played
- high damage with few items
- very useful wall if well put
- burster and tanky with the good build
- no big counters
- high pressure in lane

  • Cons :

- can be camped easily
- hard to master
- weak level 4 to 6

Early game Back to Top

First of all, I heard so many times Yasuo isn't good in early and I think he is. Your levels 1/2/3 is sick. Use your Q to poke and farm at the same time. Then comes your level 2: E on a minion to get 25% damage, AA the enemy champion, E on him/her to get 50% (max damage on your E), Q and kite him and E back to minions. This will make you win all the trades if well done.

But be careful of some aggressive early toplaner like Renekton or Tryndamere who can outdamage you.

Mid game Back to Top

The mid game is also important. Most of the time, you will win your lane and bully your opponent. Now there are 2 cases:
- you bully him more by pushing his lane to death
- you push the lane and then you roam
These 2 ways are both good but I usually push the lane to death to attract enemy team to me and just like that, my team will get objectives (towers, dragons, etc...)

Roaming is also good when you have a midlaner with a crowd control (LeBlanc, Orianna, Azir, etc...)
Do not hesitate to take kills, Yasuo can a game on his own.

Late game/Teamfights Back to Top

Since 5.22 patch, there is no late game anymore, kinda. Games don't last more than 30 minutes now. But let's imagine you reach the late game.

In late, you have your full build. You can tank and deal tons of damage to enemy carries. But Yasuo can be an easy target for a tanky champion with CC like Skarner. Your lack of "natural tankiness" is problematic at this point so have a good positionning and come when the fight is already engaged, do not engage by yourself.

Your W is crucial for you and your teammates. A good windwall will stop the AD Carry and some of the AP Carry dps on you and you mates and save precious seconds for your team. Think about it, the wall isn't useless.

Who am I? Back to Top

Hi, I'm HighFive from EUW server, I'm actually Platinum 5 and this is my first guide. I'm a main midlane but I really love Yasuo on the toplane and I don't like him much on mid.

Feel free to rate my guide if you liked it. And you can put a comment down below if you think it helps you, if you have an advice or if you think I should change something, let me know. :D
