Summoner Spells Back to Top

12.png - I normally run teleport every game on top lane Yasuo for the playmaking potential, objective control, and to get back to lane for a kill, to defend a turret, or catch back up in farm after a death or bad trade/gank.

3.png - Normally I will take exhaust in the mid lane because of a matchup where I need to have Exhaust in order to kill them or survive their combo, like Zed or Fizz. You can take it top lane against champs like Riven, Jayce, or Fiora but I think teleport is just better overall for top lane

4.png - I think it's obvious to take Flash every game, great for escaping, outplaying, or setting up an engage.

14.png - I rarely ever take ignite in the mid lane because exhaust provides better teamfight potential, it's better for 1v1's when split pushing or in lane. Ignite is really only for snowballing, and if you don't get that early kill then ignite becomes useless unless you're against a Vlad or Swain.

Masteries Back to Top

Fervor of Battle - You can generate stacks easily with high attack speed, hitting Q's, and dashes. Just recently fervor was nerfed, so Warlord's Bloodlust is really good. Either one is fine, pick based on your personal preference, but if the lane is difficult or has heavy poke you can opt in Warlord's Bloodlust.

Fury - More attack speed, lower Q cooldown, more fervor stacks

Double Edged Sword - More dmg, kill potential

Vampirism - Lifesteal is very good on yasuo with Runic Armor mastery.

Battle Trance - This is a lot better than the other 2 masteries because you don't have to sacrifice taking more dmg, or have to get kills to get your bonus damage. You get the damage every fight.

Battering Blows - Armor pen is very good, obviously don't need magic pen.

Resolve Tree:

Recovery - Health regen goes well with runic armor and sunfire.

Explorer - Kinda useful, roam faster

Veterans Scars - Overall just helpful, more hp, good for lane/dueling

Insight - Important for having your summoner spells up a lot faster

After the recent E nerf a lot of people are maxing differently. Currently I am full maxing Q first with only 1 point in E until Q is fully maxed. I feel like the E nerfs make it really hard to lane if you max E first so Q max is a lot better because Q max makes up for the damage that was taken away from the E nerfs.

Another important thing to know is that when you use your ultimate (Last Breath), you will then be granted 50% armor penetration every time you auto attack or Q them and you crit.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

    First Back
Standard Yasuo (IE 2nd) can get whatever after these 4
Triforce 2nd (Against hard matchups, For Dueling)
Frozen 2nd (When behind, or when you need the HP to survive fights)
Rush vs. hard AP matchup or heavy AP

Situational Items

3046.png or 3087.png: I normally take Phantom Dancer 99% of the time, it's very good for 1v1 situations with the new passive as well as better stats than Shiv. Although, the few times I get Shiv over PD is because our team has low waveclear and/or Ability Power within our team comp.

Ninja Tabi vs. Mercury Treads vs. Berserker Greaves:

Normally I either go Merc Treads or Tabi. This is because as Top Yasuo you will want to be tanky, or limit the amount of CC you take.

3047.png: I buy Tabi normally when their ADC is fed for the passive, or when the enemy team is heavy on Attack Damage.

3111.png: I buy Mercury Treads when the enemy team is heavy on Ability Power, or if they have a lot of CC

3006.png: I buy Berserker's Greaves when I'm super far ahead, they're good for generating fervor stacks or having a lower cooldown on your Q

VS

Ahri

Easy

Ahri is a fairly easy matchup. You can use your yasuodashwrapper.png to abuse her early, and use your yasuowmovingwall.png to either negate her damage or her ahriseduce.png which will save you from ganks or her combo.

VS

Annie

Medium

Annie is somewhat hard if you do not play the matchup well. She is very obnoxious in lane with her poke and stun. Use your yasuowmovingwall.png to block her disintegrate.png damage, but be careful because if you block her disintegrate.png when she has full stacks, she will not lose her stun stacks. Just play to your advantage, abuse her when you can, and be careful of her stun and ult combo.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium

Cassio is somewhat a difficult matchup. I recommend taking 3.png vs. her to negate her damage. Her cassiopeiaw.png and cassiopeiaq.png can be dodged by using your yasuodashwrapper.png and you can then just yasuowmovingwall.png her cassiopeiae.png whenever she is about to poke you or when you are fighting her. Just be careful of her cassiopeiar.png and play to your advantages and you should do fine.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

The matchup against Cho'Gath is fairly easy as long as you can dodge his rupture.png . Which in order to do that you just have to dash around the minions or through him. Other than that the only thing you have to worry about is his silence.

VS

Darius

Medium

Against Darius, it becomes kind of hard to 1v1 him. You have to dodge his dariuscleave.png every singe time or he will get an insane heal, passive stacks, and a lot of damage on to you. Other than that if you can dance around his dariuscleave.png or bait it out, you can beat Darius every time.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Hard

Playing against Mundo is very hard imo because he is extremely tanky and does a lot of damage. The only thing you have going for you is that your yasuoW.png can block his infectedcleavermissilecast.png. Although, even if he doesn't hit his infectedcleavermissilecast.png he can still easily 1v1 you. I would wait for a gank or a very good opportunity to try and kill him Post 6.

VS

Ekko

Medium

Ekko is somewhat of an easy matchup as long as you can stay out of his ekkoW.png. You can just dash around his ekkoR.png and ekkoW.png quite easily which makes the matchup a lot easier on your side. Also, you can completely destroy Ekko's ekkoQ.png with your yasuoW.png. Other than that, If you just stay out of his W, most of the time you can easily beat him.

VS

Fizz

Hard

Fizz is a pretty hard matchup but you can win it with ease if you know how to play the matchup. I think Fizz will win trades with his fizzw.png and combo from his fizzq.png & fizze.png. The most you can do is trade as best as you can and use your yasuodashwrapper.png to dodge his fizze.png if you can. Other than that use your yasuowmovingwall.png to block his fizzr.png, but remember it stays wherever you placed the windwall so be careful not to pick the fish up or step on it. Otherwise, play the matchup the best you can and maybe run 3.png to win the 1v1.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

I think Gangplank is actually kind of a hard matchup. In my opinion it's kind of a skill matchup but I think GP has the advantage. Do your best to win trades by using your yasuowmovingwall.png to block his gangplankqwrapper.png, also you can yasuodashwrapper.png through minions or through him to try and get out of his gangplanke.png. Other than that just be careful of his gangplankr.png and acknowledge that his gangplankw.png can cancel your yasuorknockupcombow.png

VS

Garen

Hard

Garen is very hard to play against as Yasuo because when you yasuoE.png into him, he just silences you with his garenslash3.png and then proceeds to use his garenbladestorm.png and do a lot of damage. I wouldn't recommend trying to 1v1 him without a gank or if you have a extremely high chance of killing him.

VS

Illaoi

Medium

Illaoi is kind of a hard matchup because If you get caught in her illaoiR.png or get hit by her illaoiQ.png a few times she can easily just one shot you. You will need to dance around her illaoiQ.png with your yasuoE.png and also dodge her illaoiE.png with your yasuoW.png

VS

Irelia

Hard

Irelia is a hard matchup because if you yasuodashwrapper.png onto her she will just stun you with her ireliaequilibriumstrike.png. Although she can do this, you can sometimes beat her if you time her cooldowns and go in when her ireliaequilibriumstrike.png or ireliahitenstyle.png are down.

VS

Jax

Hard

Jax is a fairly hard matchup because of his high damage and tankiness. You will need to completely dodge his jaxcounterstrike.png with your yasuoE.png during a 1v1 situation. Most of the time, you will need to get an early lead or kill to be able to kill him early-mid game.

VS

Katarina

Easy

Katarina is a pretty easy matchup if you play it well. You can use your yasuodashwrapper.png to abuse her level 1, and poke with yasuoqw.png when she goes up for farm. Also your yasuowmovingwall.png can block her katarinaq.png & katarinar.png so that is really good for 1v1'ing. Just be aware of where her dagger falls and you can try to predict that she will to jump to it by yasuoqw.png'ing wherever her dagger is. Other than that the matchup should be easy to win.

VS

Kayle

Hard

Kayle is an extremely hard matchup Post-6 if you are not ahead early. Her kayleE.png goes right through your yasuoW.png which means that your yasuoW.png is almost useless against her. Also, she has her kayleR.png which can make her invulnerable which is really annoying when you're trying to get your yasuoR.png and combo/auto attacks off. Normally, I just sit back and farm and only fight her when her E is down. Otherwise, I just wait for jungle pressure or roams to help me get ahead somehow.

VS

Kled

Hard

Kled is somewhat of a hard matchup because he is extremely tanky while doing a ton of damage. You can neglect his kledQ.png with your yasuoW.png but still he does a lot of damage with his 4th auto attack modifier. Also you can't get away with him when he uses kledR.png because he is a lot more mobile than your yasuoE.png at that point.

VS

Lissandra

Hard

Lissandra is a hard matchup because when you yasuoE.png onto her all she has to do is use her lissandraW.png and then a full rotation of spells. Although your yasuoW.png can block her lissandraQ.png and lissandraE.png, she has fairly low cooldowns and can repeatedly spam spells and cc chain you.

VS

Lux

Medium

Lux is very annoying because she is somewhat hard to kill with her shield and if she goes 21.png or 3.png. She has very low cooldowns and has a lot of poke/dmg with her luxlightbinding.png & luxlightstrikekugel.png combo early game. Do your best to trade early and use your yasuowmovingwall.png to block her luxlightbinding.png when you are all inn'ing her.

VS

Malphite

Easy

Malphite pretty easy matchup but he is extremely tanky, and surprisingly does a lot of damage with his landslide.png and obduracy.png. Although you can neglect his seismicshard.png with your yasuoW.png, his seismicshard.png is up a lot more often than your yasuoW.png.

VS

Malzahar

Hard

Malzahar is a pretty hard matchup because he has a lot of damage and is very annoying. I'd say play this lane safe, poke and all in when his CD's are down and just be careful of his malzaharr.png. For me I'd say farm out the lane and take advantage of the matchup when you can, but other than that it is kind of hard to kill him if he plays safe and stays by turret with his malzaharr.png up.

VS

Olaf

Medium

Olaf is a hard matchup because he does an insane amount of damage with his olafrecklessstrike.png and olafaxethrowcast.png. You can block his olafaxethrowcast.png with your yasuoW.png, but it is an extremely low cooldown especially if he walks over it and picks it back up. Also, he can neglect your knockup with his olafragnarok.png, meaning you will probably never get to use yasuoR.png against him in a 1v1.

VS

Orianna

Medium

Ori is somewhat of an easy matchup but can be hard against a good orianna. Do your best to trade with her early with your yasuodashwrapper.png level 1. Other than that use your yasuowmovingwall.png to block her orianaizunacommand.png during your all in, and just be careful of her orianadetonatecommand.png

VS

Riven

Hard

Riven is a hard matchup because every time you use yasuoE.png she will just use rivenmartyr.png and then use her full combo with her riventricleave.png. Although you can outplay her and destroy her rivenfengshuiengine.png with your yasuoW.png, it really comes down to if you won the early game and skill.

VS

Sion

Easy

Sion is a fairly easy matchup because you can block his enrage.png with your yasuoW.png and you can completely get around his crypticgaze.png with your yasuoE.png. Also the armor pen from your yasuoR.png helps really well when going against a Sion.

VS

Tryndamere

Medium

Tryndamere is one of my most hated matchups as Yasuo or really any top laner. His undyingrage.png is extremely annoying because of that invulnerability he gains, meaning if you completely destroy him he can just use undyingrage.png and get a few crits off before his ult is gone. Also your yasuoW.png is completely useless against Tryndamere.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

Twisted Fate is a pretty easy matchup. Use your yasuodashwrapper.png level 1 to abuse him and constantly all in him because you will win trades. You can get killed by him if he uses his pickacard.png to stun, so just save your yasuowmovingwall.png for all in's to block his pickacard.png. Other than that, try to snowball lane and ping MIA and follow his roams if you can.

VS

Veigar

Easy

Veigar is a pretty easy matchup. You can abuse him really well early with yasuodashwrapper.png since his early trades aren't very strong. Just do your best to stay out of his veigareventhorizon.png and use your yasuowmovingwall.png during trades to block his veigarbalefulstrike.png or save it Post-6 to block his veigarr.png because that's where his main burst will come from. Other than that this matchup is pretty easy to snowball off of, just be careful of his veigareventhorizon.png for ganks/combos.

VS

Viktor

Medium

Viktor can be a hard matchup if you are playing vs. a good Viktor. Otherwise, just abuse him with your yasuodashwrapper.png as you should be able to win early trades. The only thing you can block with your yasuowmovingwall.png is the first part of his viktorpowertransfer.png so just remember that. Do your best to yasuodashwrapper.png out of his viktorgravitonfield.png , viktordeathray.png, and viktorchaosstorm.png and you should be able to kill him because he is very low mobility. Just be careful of his damage, I would run 3.png and maybe rush a 3155.png early if he is strong or the matchup is even.

VS

Vladimir

Easy

In my opinion Vladimir is an easy matchup because you can yasuoE.png into him without fear of taking a bad trade because your yasuoW.png can neglect his vladimirtransfusion.png. Also you can yasuoE.png out of the range of his vladimirtidesofblood.png meaning you may be able to neglect his two main abilities for damage.

VS

Zed

Medium

Going against Zed i believe it is mostly skill. You have to know when to use your yasuoW.png to block his zedQ.png, and also you must know when to use your yasuoE.png to engage on him. Also, he can completely dodge your knockup with his zedR.png and this can cause some problems in the 1v1 situation. Against Zed, I always run 3.png to negate his burst damage and combo when he ults you.

Gameplay (Lane, Teamfight) Back to Top

LANE:

In the top lane I normally start Q level 1 since it can be dangerous to dash into enemy top laners at lvl. 1 since most of them are AD and have a close range ability that can win them the trade heavily (Ex. Darius). Since most matchups are melee, I wait till they walk up to kill a creep and Q them through the wave. I try to get Level 2 first and then use my E Q together to dash onto them and get off as much damage as i can. Normally I can win the trade very heavily especially if they are still level 1. I just continue to do this throughout the early game of lane, and adjust to the matchup, or ganks if necessary.

For mid lane, if you're against an easy matchup you can start E level 1 and dash twice through minions and then onto your opponent for E burst and then auto as much as you can and E out. This should win you the trade pretty easily, and then just all in when you can and use your windwall for when you need to. Rushing level 2 is good, but you don't want to push the lane too hard because you might get ganked. Just be careful for ganks, ward as much as you can, play to your advantage while trying to snowball, and roam when possible.

Teamfights:

Mid game teamfights or skirmishes are really about using your allies knockups or "airborne" abilities to your advantage to get off a good ult. If your allies don't have any abilities that synergize with your allies then it's up to you to build up stacks during or before the fight starts. Most of the time you want to get a knockup onto the enemy mid laner or ADC and do your best to negate their damage by using your Windwall for the ADC's auto attacks or any other important ranged abilities. Your job as Tank/Damage Yasuo is to kill their carries while trying to survive as long as you can. To survive you're going to need to use your Ult and E to your highest capability. Mid game teamfights are very important for snowballing and getting control of objectives, and a good Yasuo can turn a teamfight easily.

Late Game Teamfights:

Late game teamfights are all about 1 shotting their ADC or Mid laner, while using your Windwall to completely negate their ADC's damage. Also you can play Tank/Damage Yasuo as a peel top laner and when the enemy team engages you use your W to delay their engage, build up stacks and then engage with an E Q combo or Knockup from your Tornado or an Allie's ability. Since you should have at least 2 tank items at this point, you will be really hard to kill and should be able to at least get a lot of damage off or take out a carry or two for your team. If you can do this, or even live while doing this, you can win late game teamfights easily.

Animation Cancels/Tricks Back to Top

Auto Attack, Q Animation Cancel:

For this mechanic you just auto attack normally and as soon as the animation for your auto finishes, you then Q. This will cancel the longer animation of a regular Q.

Dashes (E):

Walk up right next to the camps as close as you can without hitting them, face the wall you're trying to dash over, and E. You can also dash over from the opposite side if you have Vision.

Use Windwall To Escape:

You can throw your windwall over a wall and then you will gain vision of the monster or champion and you can then dash to them if you are in range.

W > Q Animation Cancel Mechanic:

This is most effective when you have the Tornado part of your Q ready, you then cast your Windwall and Q at the same time to cancel the animation.

Blind Knockup, Ward or Windwall into Ult:

If you hit a knockup in fog of war, you can quickly place a ward or throw your W over the wall to gain vision and then ult them.

Beyblade Trick:

For this trick, you need to have your Tornado ready. Then, you do a basic E > Q combo onto a minion, monster, or other enemy champion, and as the dash is being channeled you flash and then it will knock them up so you can follow with your Ult.

Airblade Trick:

I'm too lazy to make my own video, so I'm just going to link someone else's tutorial. But basically you have to use your tornado knockup or wait for another teammate to knockup someone, then start your EQ animation to any target and then ult. You will then gain a free Q stack when your animation finishes.

About Me Back to Top

Hi, my name is Dylan and my current account name is Yone with an accent over the o. I'm a Yasuo main who peaked Platinum 4 in Season 5, and Platinum 2 in Season 6 before I was perma'd. I've been playing Yasuo ever since season 4 and recently started to enjoy playing him more than any other champ in Season 5. I now fully main him and play him every chance I get if he is not banned or picked. I currently have a very high winrate/kda on Yasuo and am in the top 20 for Yasuo Players on lolskill.net. I'm currently Diamond 3 with around an 63% winrate on Yasuo and am climbing steadily towards Masters. I hope to get into Masters this season or higher if i possibly can. Thanks for reading :]
