Summoner Spells Back to Top

You play 83.png as a top laner, so you take 12.png. He is one of the better split pushers, so I do not recommend taking a combat Summoner Spell instead of it. Everyone takes 4.png, so you can do that as well on 83.png

6.png has no direct synergy with Yorick's kit like e.g. 27.png , 120.png or 2.png do. But it is still a viable choice on him and enhances his teamfighting for the sake of slightly weakening his laning phase in winning matchups, because you cannot surprise fools with a quick 4.pngyorickspectral.png.

New Runes Back to Top

Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=64 Grasp of the Undying is your go-to Keystone on Yorick. His ghouls yorickpassive.png apply it and a champion building Titanic Hydra 3748.png tends to like Runes that give flat max HP, which is also why you should go for Overgrowth.png?width=32 Overgrowth.

As a potent split pusher, Yorick makes good use of Demolish Demolish.png?width=32 to take down turrets, especially in wnning lanes it often gives you the edge to get first turret takedown. However, you are not always in winning lanes, so UnflinchingPerseverance.png?width=32 is a viable alternative if your enemy laner has annoying CC that prevents you from reaching him.

Conditioning.png?width=32 Conditioning outclasses the other two resistance giving runes. You have to get to the 10th minute to make use of it, but this should be possible with the help of runes like Biscuit Delivery Biscuit%20Delivery.png?width=32.

To top it all of, Cosmic Insight Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32 gives you the CDR you want to farm yorickq.png comfortably in the early game and transitions well through all stages of the game. You will build items like Trinity Force3078.png, Spirit Visage 3065.png and Death's Dance 3812.png, which means getting to the 45% cap is not unlikely.

The Keystone tree is pretty much mandatory to get optimal results, even though a tree built around Electrocute Electrocute.png?width=32 can also work with an agressive playstyle.

In the secondary tree, you can add in some variation depending on your playstyle and expectations of the game.

Other paths I consider worthy of giving a shot is Taste of Blood Taste%20of%20Blood.png?width=32 + Ingenious Hunter Ingenious%20Hunter.png?width=32 to bounty hunt enemy champion and reduce your 3748.png cooldown down to 12 seconds and Transcendence Transcendence.png?width=32 combined with another item and going for a CDR overcapping build, granting you cheap bonus AD while enjoying countless unique passives.

or

yorickreviveally.png>yorickspectral.png>yorickravenous.png>yorickdecayed.png

 yorickspectral.png

Q - Last Rites

This is your main damage ability and the ability that makes Yorick really unique. At first, it resembles other autoattack resets like siphoningstrikenew.png or monkeykingdoubleattack.png, but it has different traits. Besides resetting your autoattack timer and buffing your attack's damage and range (yes, it increases your range for that attack!), it creates a grave upon last-hitting a minion or monster. It is nigh impossible to create the graves104.png for Ghouls without using Q, so better take and max this out first.

yorickdecayed.png

W - Dark Procession

Your only form of hard CC on Yorick. Upon a short delay, it creates a cage that traps enemies inside it. Just like  trundlecircle.png or crystallize.png, it knocks champions standing on the position of the created terrain back, which interrupts channeled abilities likejhinr.png or missfortunebullettime.png and can set up yasuorknockupcombow.png. I had succes with maxing this second over yoricke.png.
I prefer to max it over yoricke.png, becuase the cage having more HP has more impact than a slight damage boost.

yorickravenous.png

E - Mourning Mist

Your utility kind of spell. It slows enemies hit, deals % of current HP magic damge with a minimum capped to it, so you can sometimes finish enemies off with it or just use it for poke. The ability not only slows the enemies, but also chooses the focus of your yorickpassive.png and yorickreviveally.png while giving them and yourself a movement speed boost in the target's direction.

yorickreviveally.png

R - EUlogy Of The Isles

As every ultimate in the game, you level it whenever you can. It's %HP damage is a big deal in duels and 1v2s and you somewhat rely on it to compete with other champions after level 6.

b) 3071.png3047.png3812.png3748.png3143.png3026.png

a) That's a build you can always go and rely on to some extent. It gives him 30% CDR, buffs his empowered autoattacks further with 3078.png3053.png, the 3065.png increases his built-in healing, 3742.png makes him sticky and 3748.pngturns him into one of the fastest, if not the fastest pusher in the game.
Boots are to be chosen according to the enemy comp, the Mercuries in the picture are just an example.

In lane, you rush 3057.png unless you get crushed. In that case, take the 3044.png  or tanky boots first. Complete your 3078.png. After that, complete your boots in case you didn't already and go for either a part of 3742.png or 3077.png, depending if you deem waveclear or mobility and defense more valuable at the time. Finish these items and then build your CDR item. This should be either 3065.png3156.png or 3812.png. You can't really genrealize this too much, so pick a situational item of your choice last. My recommendations are 3053.png because of the synergy with 3078.png and 3026.png as a general improvement of your tankiness and annoying factor ;)

The items are explained in greater detail below this:

2033.png

Corrupting Potion is your starting item. Your early levels are pretty weak, so you want to profit off the sustain and want to win short traded with your ghouls, who proc the damage part of the consumable.

1027.png2031.png

Alternatively, you can go "The Gangplank Start" to rush your Trinity Force even quicker. I personally dislike it, but you can consider going for it if the matchup is comfortable for you.

1054.png2003.png2003.png

Doran's Shield is a possible choice in lanes you expect to lose, too. The passive regeneration along with its cheap price allows you to take two potions and basically sustain anything unless you get shut down really hard by the enemy jungler.

3078.png

Trinity Force is an item you always want to rush. With your role as a splitpusher, your job is to take down towers quickly. yorickspectral.png is not only and empowered attack, but also an autoattack reset, you want to maximize your damage with using AA-Q-AA combos in short trades or pushes to deal a lot of damage in a short amount of time.

3071.png

Black Cleaver is a DPS oriented alternative to Triforce. You sacrifice your 3057.png Procs for tank shredding abilty. I personally dislike it, but I wanted to include this item, since it also found succes on 83.png.

3025.png

Iceborn Gauntlet might fit in as well with a build around 3071.png or instead of this item. It overcaps your CDR if you don't use different runes and/or cut out another item, so I rarely prefer to build it. On top of that, my experience tells me that 3742.png is enough to be sufficiently sticky.

3047.png3009.png3111.png

Boots are a must-have on any champion. 83.png prefers tanky boots, since he does not profit from Zerkers, Sorcerers or Ionians (since he gets full CDR anyway). Just build according to the enemy comp.

3742.png

Dead Man's Plate is the item that makes you sticky. Already having built 3078.png, building an 3025.png becomes somewhat redundant, so you take this to increase your tankiness, while also adding some situational damage and movement speed to your Arsenal.

3748.png

Titanic Hydra further enhances your splitpushing power, as it gives you another autoattack reset and lets you almost oneshot minion waves with your autoattacks. You build a lot of HP items, which synergizes well with Hydra's passive. Don't build it when you fall behind, as it's pushing power does more bad than good in that scenario.

3065.png

Spirit Visage is your go-to MR item, since you rarely fight 5v5s, which would justify building 3102.png over it. Spirit Visage also increases the built-in healing from yorickspectral.png.

3812.png

Death's Dance is an alternative to 3065.png as your sustain item. You can take it into a full AD enemy comp or when you snowball the game. It gives a little bit of the old Yorick feeling back, because your yorickpassive.png and the Maiden apply the lifestealing effect of it (yes, yorickreviveally.png applies standard Lifestea, even if it is magic damage).

3156.png

Maw Of Malmortius is a more offensive alternative to spirit visage. when you go out even or ahead, you might take advantadge of yorickspectral.png's 1.4 AD scaling and build this item to complement offense and defense in one go. You can build it instead of 3748.png early when laning against champions like 68.png or 85.png.

3053.png

Sterak's Gage is a nice item, since it amplifies your 3078.png procs and also offers good stats in general for 83.png.

3026.png

Guardian Angel is a nice ball of stats with a nice passive that can delay your downfall, of which your team can profit in their 4vX push on antoher side of the map. Definitely not a bad item on him.

3193.png

Gargoyle Stoneplate fits into the same niche as old GA does, since it gives the same base stats and even more if the enemy team collapses onto you. It helps delaying the enemy team, but can be a bad purchase if your team fails to punish the enemies for collapsing onto you.

3194.png

Adaptive Helm can be taken into consideration for opponents like 69.png268.png112.png and other DPS-heavy mages that kite you to your demise.

3068.png

Sunfire Cape is a fine item to run into physical damge threats. The passive increases your pushing speed by a bit, but don't get overzealous and buy it from behind, since it doesn't help you to freeze your lane.

3143.png

Randuin's Omen can help you beat crit heavy champions such as 157.png and 23.png. The overall stats and the active aren't too bad either.

3046.png

Phantom Dancer has some viability on any split pusher. Wouldn't advise you to build it, but this may be due to my personal bias against crit items used on champions that don't build 3031.png. My opinion might change on it, but the raw AS feels lack luster as well, since you rely more on 3057.png procs anyway. Can be good against high damage duellists in the enemy team.

3512.png

Zz Rot Portal is found in the most popular / highest winrate builds on Yorick. I don't like it, as you already are a good splitpusher without it and this item would not add as much to it as you think it would. However, it's stas are all useful and if you can use it well, you are free to justify building it.

3800.png

Rightheous Glory would make sense from a mobiliy perspective, since you lack engage possibilities, but if you feel the need to buy this item, you might as well play a different champion or report your team.

3142.png

Youmuu's Ghostblade is more of a fun item than anything else, but if you won the game anyway and want to fool around, then consider building this and oneshot their underleveled ADC with a 3078.pngyorickspectral.png empowered autoattack, tons of AD and some lethality.

3147.png

Duskblade of Draktharr and the recently added True damge onhit can catch many enemies off guard. When snowballing, you can look into picking up this item. I expect the free sweeping lense-like passive to be nerfed in the future due to it's usefulness.

3814.png

Edge of the Night might be the best lethality option on Yorick, because the shield and the overall stats come in handy. Question remains if it is a good item in general, so take care.

3031.png

Infinity Edge does NOT interact with the damage coming from yorickspectral.png. It's probably terrible. Don't try this at home, kids.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Aatrox has to go melee to do massive damage and you can punish that. if he uses aatroxq.png offensively, you can keep him in your yorickdecayed.png and swarm him with Ghouls. His strength is his sustain, and even that can be partly matched with your yorickspectral.png.

VS

Akali

Medium

She can win short trades and can chase you down post 6 when your yorickreviveally.png is unavailable, but you have counterplay against her, since she cannot really get out of fights without  wasting damage of her akalishadowdance.png. Don't forget to bring 2055.png, so you can still aim yorickdecayed.png and yorickravenous.png when she hides in her akalismokebomb.png.

VS

Camille

Medium

This is an interesting matchup. Both of you have empowered autoattack reset spells as key strength in yorickq.png and camilleq.png, so be aware of the time windows in which you want to trade. Avoid the outer ring of camillew.png and dodge the camillee.png if possible. Your 1v1 all-in with yorickr.png outshines hers with camiller.png, but she can actually run away of  yours, so take care.

VS

Cho'Gath

Hard

His vorpalspikes.png can poke you down while farming yorickq.png without using Mana. On top of that, his chogathpassive.png helps him sustain off of your Ghouls. Going full AP, he has some kill pressure, but if he doesn't get a lead, he is in danger of losing 1v1s.

VS

Darius

Hard

He has constant kill pressur on you and outtrades you early with his dariuscleave.png, which will zone you a lot. If he does not get kills, you outscale him post-6, but be aware of his blood stacks.

VS

Diana

Medium
131.png does not sustain as well, but has a lot more upfront early game damage than 83.png. As you farm your yorickq.png, she can almost guarantee hitting her dianaarc.png onto you and and her dianaorbs.png is decent against your yorickpassive.png. You eventually outscale her and win all-ins as usual.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

He can barely punish your weak first levels, later on you beat him up with your ghouls. Gp the 3071.png route if the enemy composition consists of multiple tanks.

VS

Ekko

Easy

You shouldn't get affected by a thrid proc of ekkopassive.png unless you missplay the matchup. When you have ghouls, he should not feel free to go melee. As he has problems winning trades, he will likely roam and attempt to win fights with his team. Use these time windows to moan down his turrets.

VS

Fiora

Hard

This matchup depends on Fiora's usage of fiorariposte.png, like any Fiora matchup. She can also dodge your skillshots with fioraq.png, but still has to run into you to deal damage, so you got that going for you, which is nice. If she plays it right, you are screwed. She ecels at lvl 1, where she is like you, but mobile and more damaging and sustaining.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

You lose the first levels as he can poke you down with parley.png and matches your sustain with removescurvy.pngraisemorale.png is also annoying, since it clears out your yorickpassive.png in 2 instances. AT level 6, you have kill pressure on him as yorickreviveally.png outshines cannonbarrage.png in a straight 1v1.

VS

Garen

Medium

He is not ranged, but his garenq.png can screw up your yorickq.png, so take care. He wins the first levels with this garenq.pnggarene.png unless he misses more than half of the garene.png duration and you hit a beautiful yoricke.pngyorickw.png. Don't 1v1 him when you are the villain.

VS

Gnar

Medium

This is a matchup that is slightly in Gnar's favour, but can be won if you hit more skillshots than he does. Your HP stacking gets a bit countered by his gnarW.png %HP damage and he can escape your yorickdecayed.png with gnarE.png.

VS

Gragas

Medium

His sustain from gragaspassive.png outclasses the one from yorickq.png and he can gragase.png out of your yorickw.png, which removes a lot of your kill pressure. Also, all of his spells are AoE, which removes your yorickpassive.png with relative ease. But he does not have a lot of kill pressure himself, so you can farm your items well and become relevant in the midgame.

VS

Graves

Hard

This is a nightmare for you. He cleares your ghould quickly with gravesclustershot.png and has a range advantadge with his AoE autoattacks, that also hurt more than those from traditional AD Carries. Besides that, he is also mobile and can slow you down and deny your vision with gravessmokegrenade.png. If he uses gravesmove.png agressively and you are not in your first levels, there is a chance to get some good trades off.

VS

Illaoi

Medium

This is a skill-matchup. Her sustain is bigger than yours, but she needs to hit some illaoiq.png to really keep up with it. Her illaoiw.png deals %HP damage, which is always annoying for offtanks like 83.png, but your damage from your yorickpassive.png is nothing to laugh a t either. Be brave and fight her if she illaoie.pngs on you, it will work out well if you do it properly.

VS

Irelia

Medium

This is a skill matchup. She wins the first levels and always has room for outplays with her ireliaequilibriumstrike.png. Sustain battle is a close one and she has a good tool to clear your yorickpassive.png with ireliagatotsu.png. Don't underestimate her and you will be fine.

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

This is a skill matchup in your favour, because Jarvan has to come close to you to deal the majority of his damage. Dodging the knock-up part of his jarvanivdemacianstandard.pngjarvanivdragonstrike.png combo should be enough to win trades. Your sustain from yorickspectral.png and the adding damage from your yorickpassive.png give him quite some trouble.

VS

Jax

Easy

This is definitely a winnable matchup for you. He cannot jaxcounterstrike.png the whole damage period of your yorickpassive.png and can be locked into your yorickdecayed.png, since he doesn't want to jaxleapstrike.png defensively, and even if he does do that, you can farm comfortably. But don't yorickspectral.png straight into his jaxcounterstrike.png, you will regret it.

VS

Jayce

Hard
126.png bullies pretty much any top laner due to his range and insane earöy game damage with jaycer.pngjaycew.png in combination with Thunderlord's Decree. YOu are forced to play the first levels safely and maybe buy some early 1029.png and 1028.png items to stay relevant. As he has no real ultimate, you can win an all-in at level 6 with yorickreviveally.pngyorickravenous.pngyorickdecayed.png if you aren't too low HP.

VS

Kassadin

Easy

His nulllance.png won't stop most of your damage and he is melee with a weak laning phase himself, so you can farm relatively safe. pre-6 he is even immobile, which can lead to kills.

VS

Kayle

Medium

You would think that 10.png crushes 83.png due to her range and her other kiting tools, but it isn't as easy as that. There are opportunities to farm yorickq.png when her judicatorrighteousfury.png is on cooldown, and your all-ins can force her judicatorintervention.png, while your yorickr.png can remain on the battlefield. Respect her damage and go for a 3155.png if you deem it to be necessary.

VS

Kayn

Easy

More of an easy matchup. He can barely afford to use his kaynq.png offensively, since you would just outdamage him with yorickq.png and your ghouls, while kaynq.png and kaynw.png don't even get to clear the ghouls in one go. His kayne.png sustain is higher than yours from yorickq.png and he can use it to walk though yorickw.png, but that is more annoying than concerning. The cooldown and mana cost is fairly high anyway and I would not call lane Kayn completely viable either.

VS

Kennen

Hard

Kennen has no trouble zoning you off your wave and punishing you with kennenbringthelight.pngand kennenshurikenhurlmissile1.png just in case you want to farm. His lvl 6 All-in kennenshurikenstorm.png is also stronger than yours yorickreviveally.png.

VS

Kled

Hard

You cannot stand up to Kled in the first few levels unless you consistently dodge his kledq.png. His kledw.png is somewhat predictable, but a good 240.png knows how to guarantee that his abilities are landing by using klede.png properly. In an even setting, you will come out on top as usual. Be aware of his kledr.png, especially when yorickr.png is on cooldown he can chase you down with relative ease.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium
64.png is very similar to any other AD bruiser that you can face toplane, such as 92.png or 58.png. He dominates you in the first levels, assuming he hits hits blindmonkqone.png and blindmonkeone.png, but if he makes a mistake and lets you go into extended melee trades, you will overpower him eventually.

VS

Lissandra

Medium

This champion can become an obstracle if the player punishes your farming with lissandraq.png and poking you down, which may prevent you from winning an all-in. However, 127.png will eventually shove you in, which leaves room for you to create graves with yorickq.png and fighting back with your yorickpassive.png and yoricke.png. With some early MR and your 3078.png, you should win an all-out 1v1 using your yorickr.png.

VS

Malphite

Easy

This one should be easy. He does not have a lot of kill pressure onto you and his landslide.png barely deny your main damage from yorickr.png and yorickq.png, since theirs is gated by cooldowns anyway. I recommend running a 3071.png build in this matchup.

VS

Maokai

Easy

The tree can be cut down, since he is melee and not able to deal huge damage in the early game, you can farm up and win trades against him. maokaiunstablegrowth.png does not work wit hhis allied minions, so feel free to hit yorickravenous.png and yorickdecayed.png.

VS

Nasus

Easy

His nasuse.png does not clear your yorickpassive.png with ease and  your yorickq.png outshines his nasusq.png in lane by a lot. On top of that, your % maxHP damage from yorickr.png works quite well into him. Run 3071.png if you feel like it.

VS

Nautilus

Easy

Nautilus is on the easier side of the bracket. He has low damage in general, you only need to respect his first few levels a bit more if he starts 1056.png. You should be able to farm this one out until level 6 and then cut him down with your %HP damge of your yorickr.png.

VS

Ornn

Medium
516.png in general is an overtuned champion at the moment, but 83.png deals with him fairly well. Sure, the max %HP damage from ornnw.png is working well against your HP stacking especially in the late game, but he loses trades over a longer time, since your yorickpassive.png will shred his armor with 3071.png and his cooldowns even before that stage in lane are so high, which results in your DPS being higher. 516.png can win short trades however if he happens to hit his ornne.png into a wall or the pillar from ornnq.png if you are brittled, so stay aware of his positioning. Your yorickw.png interrupts his ornne.png and thus you can force his flash if you trap him with it and deals enough damage. Your mixed damage from yorickr.png also helps in fighting him, since it forces him to build both resistances.

VS

Poppy

Easy

Poppy is one of the stronger champions in general, but 83.png does quite fine against her. She has to run into you to deal her damage, and as long as you avoid getting knocked into walls by her poppye.png, you can win the matchup by the usual Ghoul swarming and sustaining with yorickq.png.

VS

Quinn

Hard

Pray. And with this, I do not refer to the Longzhu ADC, but to your enemies' playstyle. There is barely anything you can do in the first levels, as she can outtrade you with ranged harass from quinnq.png, her autoattacks and empowered hits from quinnpassive.png. Her quinne.png also delivers some outplay potential on her side, because she can utilize it to escape your yorickw.png. GL in esports.

VS

Renekton

Hard
58.png is one of the few melee top laners that wrecks you due to his enourmous early game strentgh. Respect his combos and try to dodge his renektonsliceanddice.png and renektoncleave.png. When he does not create an advantadge over you early, feel free to beat him with an army of yorickpassive.png and continue to outscale.

VS

Rengar

Easy

This rarely happens but I remember beating Rengar in lane, even after he came out fresh after his rework in his arguably broken state. He has to go melee and cheese with bushes to even hurt you. His rengare.png is also a lot harder to hit than yoricke.png. Against good Rengars, you maybe want to buy some early 1029.png before buying your powerspike item, but that's pretty much it.

VS

Riven

Hard

A good Riven destroys anyone, including 83.png. If she misses her CC and is bad at animation canceling, you can actually win, but don't rely on that.

VS

Ryze

Hard

This is a touch matchup in the first 5 levels. His ryzee.pngryzeq.png combo clears your yorickpassive.png pretty easily and his ranged harass punishes you decently when farming yorickq.png. On top of that, he can restrict your all-ins with his ryzew.png. At level 6, you gain a combat ultimate with yorickr.png, while ryzer.png is not one, so might win all-ins from there. Build 3111.png.

VS

Shen

Easy

That's a chilly one. He has some damage, but no direct kill pressure, so you can safely farm your yorickq.png and scratch him down while his shenw.png is on cooldown. You can  go the 3071.png path for this matchup obviously.

VS

Singed

Medium

His poisontrail.png clears your yorickpassive.png easily, but he does not have actual kill pressure. Extended 1v1s are won by the yorickr.png's heavy %HP damage, which counters the HP stacking singedpassive.png enables.

VS

Swain

Hard

Pre-6, this is an absolute nightmare for you. 50.png is the go-to champion to zone off melees in the toplane, he literally cretes zones.  Once you hit 6, there is a chance to make it run out of mana by just donning your yorickr.png and violently pushing him in. Buy early MR 1033.png.

VS

Tahm Kench

Easy

He can beat you up if he hits his tahmkenchq.png and you allow him to chase you down to a follow-up tahmkenchw.png, which deals sick % max HP damage to you. However, his  tahmkenche.png is not sustaining him as well as your frequent usage of yorickq.png and your yorickr.png % max HP damage works extraordinarily well against the health stacker that 223.png is.

VS

Teemo

Medium

This matchup can be hard against, good 17.pngs, as they will punish you really hard and abuse their range advantadge in the early game. Sneak onto low HP minions and lasthit them with yorickq.png before he can deny it with blindingdart.png  and fall back immediately after. you outsclae him and can win trades with yoricke.pngyorickw.png combos, especially when he does not snowball off of you.

VS

Trundle

Medium

This is a tricky one. His trundletrollsmash.png can screw your yorickq.png if he times it well and he outduels any melee toplaner in genereal. You have to rely on him missplaying the 1v1 and hit good yoricke.pngs, in addition to using well timed proccs of the yorickr.png damage.

VS

Tryndamere

Medium

Skill matchup. Yes, Tryndamere requires skill. You both have sustain abilities, and you likely will not kill each other, since a good 23.png will use his undyingrage.png well and spins his tryndameree.png defensively out of your yorickw.png.

VS

Veigar

Easy

His veigarbalefulstrike.png does not oneshot your yorickpassive.png, so he can get into trouble if he tries to farm them for his passive. veigareventhorizon.png can deny you all-ins, but once it is down, he has to respect you a lot.

VS

Vladimir

Hard

This is hell. 8.png has more range and more sustain than you, can deny a good part of your damage with his vladimirsanguinepool.png and can all-in you at lvl 6 with his vladimirhemoplague.png. You cannot really abuse his early game and might even have to take early 1033.png to at least survive this. Only light of hope is the fact that vladimirsanguinepool.png does not allow him to surpass your yorickw.png.

VS

Wukong

Medium

You cannot match his early damage, but your lvl 6 powerspike is greater than his in a duell. If you can avoid him snowballing off of you, you should be fine. Consider early buys in 1028.png and 1029.png.

VS

Xin Zhao

Hard

He wins melee trades in a 1v1, thats why you have to avoid pushing hard when your yorickr.png is down. With yorickr.png, you can turn the 1v1 into favourable 1v2s. If he doesn't snowball with a +20cs farm lead and/or some kills, you should win over him in the mid- and lategame.

VS

Yasuo

Medium

His mobility with yasuoE.png is pretty annoying, also his yasuoQ.png outranges you and yasuoW.png can block your yorickravenous.png. If he doesn't snowball and you manage to hit your stuff, you start to win around lvl 6.

VS

Zac

Easy

You are relatively safe in this matchup, but be aware that his heavy CC from zace.png and zacr.png is great at assisting ganks, which he might call for. Generally, you push him in post 6 and take the turret, since he is likely too tanky to take down on your own.

Comment about the Matchup Section Back to Top

More matchups are to be added as I play them more. Be aware that with buffs and nerfs, it is hard to keep them all updated and as always, the matchup texts are very generalized, as you can write essays about any matchup, which I did not deem necessary.

Missconceptions and fun facts about Yorick Back to Top

I earlier talked about the fact that 83.png loses most Matchups but often gets away with it, since the player knows him a lot better than the enemy, which is a common pattern of e.g. Onetrick Ponies of unpopular champions. In this section, I want to give some examples of that, so you can

a) Use it to your advanatdge when playing 83.png

b) Use it to your advantadge when fighting 83.png

-  yorickpassive.png are nothing like regular minions. They get oneshot by single target abilities, but they have [(10-95)+30% of  Yorick's total AD] as their Attack Damage, which is 27 AD at level 1 without items and 125 AD at level 18 without items. In comparison, Melee Minions have at 12 AD. Thus, they are a lot more glass cannon-like than regular minions and not to be underestimated.

yorickpassive.png apply both 3071.png and Lifesteal for 83.png

-yorickr.png deals magic damage scaling with your AD, but does apply Lifesteal for 83.png.

- You can 12.png to yorickpassive.png

yorickr.png is killable with 11.png

yorickr.png split pushing alone is better than never using it at all, but still a pretty lackluster gimmick. You don't use the insane %HP magic dmg procs by not grouping with her and don't spawn new yorickpassive.png with her passive when she is alone.

- Use yorickr.png when you are really sure that you fight a winnable fight or can push a decent chunk out of enemy structures. You can back off with her very rarely as she keeps pushing once she targets the enemy minions.

- Focus minions over turrets whilst pushing with yorickr.pngunless a turret is urgent to take and the enemy is about to defend it. You will keep spawning new yorickpassive.png and thus delay the point of time in which the turret focusses down the yorickr.png.

yorickw.png will get focussed by the turret really early and wins you quite a bit of time in turret pushes.

Yorick's role as a champion and when to pick Yorick Back to Top

Yorick is a tanky fighter that excels in splitpushing and dueling, but definitely not in teamfighting. Be aware of the fact that Yorick does not fit into any team composition. He should never be your only tank and needs assistance in applying CC to the enemy champions, since he lacks actual hard initiation. On top of that, a team that utilizes Yorick needs a decent source of magic damge and waveclear, so the team can hold on when pushed in 4v5. A good team composition with Yorick can look like this:

83.png154.png161.png202.png25.png

On the other hand, you should take into consideration what the enemy team has to offer. The playstyle of spawning your own minions to outpush the enemy gets countered by mobile ranged champions that have little trouble clearing waves of minions and ghouls. As you intend to build many items that grant HP to make use of your 3748.png, enemies with %HP damage are annoying o deal with. Champions that disengage can become a struggle, too. So, do not pick Yorick against something like this:

85.png32.png134.png67.png40.png

This does not mean that you can straight up not do well with Yorick in a grouped fight against this comp. You still have outplay potential in fights where the enemies have to run into you, such as fights around Dragon and Baron or in skirmishes forced with your 12.png.

Laning as Yorick Back to Top

Level 1

There is no sugar coating it: Yorick's level 1 is one of the weakest in the game.
You have two options:
1) Get pushed in, keep calm and farm with your yorickspectral.png
2) Rush level 2 and skill your yorickravenous.png so your ghouls grow a brain
If your opponent has kill pressure, take the safe approach and let the wave push to you, while avoiding trades. If you have nothing to fear, keep autoattacking the wave and don't neglect your lasthitting with yorickspectral.png to create graves.

Level 2

Level your yorickravenous.png  and throw it at your enemy in case you have at least 3 graves prepared. If you succesfully hit your yorickravenous.png , cast the second cast of your Q, Awakening, to spawn yorickpassive.png. Because the enemy is marked, they will start chasing your enemy and instantly attack with their leap. As you are not fighting a bot, you will have received some punishment as well, so this is a good opportunity to use a charge of your 2033.png to turn the trade in your favour.

Level 3

This is the point of the game where you start to get a little bit of kill pressure. Level your yorickdecayed.png, so you can trap enemies that are marked by your yorickravenous.png and surrounded by yorickpassive.png. This 'combo' can also used the other way around, which means you cast yorickdecayed.png first and garuantee hitting your yorickravenous.png through it.

Level 4-5

Just keep maxing your yorickspectral.png and get stronger.

Level 6+

Level your yorickreviveally.png, but use it wisely. You should cast it shortly after succesfully trapping your enemy. Be careful, the Maiden sometimes ints into the enemy turret if you use it inappropriately.

Mid and Late Game as Yorick Back to Top

As I said before, you don't pick 83.png for direct 5v5 action. He is all about pressure, comparable to 75.png or 27.png. You split push a lane to draw multiple foes to your part of the map and let your team win on the other side of the map, or vice-versa. This, however, does not mean you should never join. If your team has an idea of how to play with a 83.png, then they may set up some 3649.png to enable 12.png flanks for you, that can catch their backline off guard.

With the 7.10 changes, your yorickpassive.png stay on the map even if you leabe them alone pushing, so you can set up a wave with 3 or 4 of them and then join your team to create pressure on two parts of the map without having to use your  yorickr.png.

You should be aware of the enemies' movements on the map and thus avoid getting ganked and killed over and over. Pushing agressively is dependant on your yorickreviveally.png if you aren't ahead, so take care of yourself.

To get in a comfortable position, you can solokill the Rift Herald with the help of your yorickreviveally.png and yorickpassive.png, but be aware of the enemy jungler. If he is not nearby and you already got your 3078.png, you can take the Herald in about 20s.

Yorick Support ? Back to Top

I also tried running 83.png in different positions, and surprisingly, Support has been the second most succesful one.

You start him with 3302.png and use the stacks in combination with your yorickq.png to create the graves. With your passiveyorickpassive.png you will eventually get a third grave to cast Awakening and thus do some combos with yoricke.png. But to make this easier, I recommend going for 3097.png before you build a 2049.png, but still buy 2055.png to not piss your team off.

Core items should be 2303.png2045.png, boots and something that completes your CDR, for example 3025.png and 3060.png.

Don't forget to change to 3341.png when you got your 2049.png and to upgrade your 3341.png at level 9 ;)

Yorick Jungle ? Back to Top

83.png is able to jungle thanks to his sustain from yorickq.png and overall decent survivability in the early game. After getting a leash, he can use his lvl 2 to create 3 graves at the Wolves or Chickens. The AoE damage from yoricke.png helps here. If you don't plan to gank at level 3, do not skill yorickw.png yet, as every rank in yorickq.png helps you sustaining and fighting through the jungle.

You don't have mana issues in the jungle, so I recommend starting 1041.png + 2031.png2003.png are an option, too.

Upgrade to a smite item, but upgrading to a complete jungle item is not worth its gold early on. Instead, you should rush your first big CDR item in 3078.png / 3025.png / 3071.png and look to get early boots, because you do not assist well in ganks based on your kit alone. This is why I prefer 1401.png as the go-to smite item, but others have their place as well.
It is viable to sit on a 3077.png or 3751.png to help in powerclearing the Jungle, but a CDR item or plain tank items like 3742.png can be aimed for if needed.

A full build might look like this:

1401.png3047.png3078.png3748.png3812.png3742.png

About the Author Back to Top

Hello, my name is Lukas, I am 20 years old and I play League regularly since Season 3.

I started to main Yorick as he got his rework in summer 2016. I occasionally played the old Yorick and have always been vocal about him being an underrated pick in general, which might be due to the average skill level of my oponents, as I play in Gold Elo for about 2 years.

If you have some questions, feel free to ask me here or on my Twitter ( @JustKrincy ), which I want you to follow in case you liked the guide ;)

PS: Special thanks goes to @TGSasakiHaise for helping me playing out some of the Matchups in custom games :).
