Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

Untitled-1.png

4.png Flash is the first Summoner Spell and I recommend always taking it when you're playing this champion. This is because Flash is the best Summoner Spell around. It is a really good and reliable Summoner Spell. It can be used offensively, defensively and is honestly, a really good Spell to take.

12.png Teleport is the second Summoner Spell that you should take on Yorick. This Spell is really good because it can be used to get back to lane quicker and it can also be used to help your team. In the early game, you want to teleport back to lane after your first back. Then you should look for Teleport opportunities where you can help your team.

New Runes Back to Top

Runes

Untitled-1.png

Yorick is quite strong with these Runes and they will allow him to sustain in lane and deal lots of damage to the enemies throughout. You want to be taking Resolve as the main Rune tree. Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=32Grasp of the Undying is good on him because he benefits from it. As a melee, AD champion, he can easily proc this Rune. It will allow him to sustain with the slight healing, but also deal extra damage to enemies. Overall a really solid Rune. The next Rune you should take is Demolish.png?width=32 Demolish. Unfortunately, there is not much you can take in this section so Demolish will have to do. This will allow you to take towers faster if you're pushing lane. The next Rune you want to take is Iron%20Skin.png?width=32 Iron Skin. This is good as it grants Armor against AD champions like 58.png Renekton or 122.png Darius. I recommend taking armor against tanks too like 57.png  Maokai or  54.png Malphite. Alternatively, you can go Mirror Shell if you're against an AP or a heavy AP enemy team comp. The final Rune in this tree should be Second%20Wind.png?width=32 Second Wind. This is a good Rune as it allows you to regenerate some of your missing health after going for fights. This will allow you to sustain and survive in lane for longer.

Untitled-1.png

As your secondary Rune tree, I recommend taking Sorcery. Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32 Manaflow Bond is very strong currently, and it will allow you to use your abilities more freely because of the refund. As Yorick, you will be using your abilities often, so having the refund allows you to sustain a little bit longer. Always use your abilities if you can get them for free! Your final Rune is going to be Scorch.png?width=32 Scorch. This is a really good Rune because it allows your abilities to do slightly more damage. It's good early and in team fights.

Ability Rundown

Untitled-1.png

Yorick's Passive is Shepherd of Souls

Yorick and The Maiden of the Mist can each have up to 4 Mist walkers under their control.

Yorick also raises a grave for every enemy champion, and sometimes non-champions that dies near him. YORICK1.png

Untitled-1.png

Yorick's Q is Last Rites

Yorick's next basic attack deals bonus physical damage and heals him for an amount. If Yorick is below 50% health, the ammount healed will be double.

If there are 3 Graves (from his passive) nearby, Yorick can cast Awakening. If Awakening is cast, he raises Mist Walkers under his command and consumes all the graves nearby.  Your Q will also leave a Grave if your Q kills the enemy.

dot-pattern.pngYour Q is an auto attack reset. Make sure to auto the enemy, and then use your Q. Before going for trades, try your best to watch the positioning of any graves. These will help you deal damage to enemies and can easily chunk them. Also, do not fight if the enemy Jungler is missing or headed topside, make sure to watch the map before going in for any trades.

YORICK2.png

Untitled-1.png

Yorick's W is Dark Procession

After a brief delay, Yorick summons a wall in a target area, trapping any enemies inside. After 4 seconds the wall collapses, however it can be targetted by enemy champions and destroyed earlier. Turret shots destroy the wall immediately- no matter the health.

dot-pattern.pngYour W is very situational and I do not recommend using it in every trade. Make sure to not waste it. In team fights you want to use it and try to hit whoever possible. In some games, you can try and hit the enemy backline, but in most games you will be using it to CC the enemy frontline. Using your W is important, but only under certain circumstances. You can also use your W as a buffer for the enemies. For example, if an enemy Jungler is coming to gank, you can place your W near his path, it will either hit them or make them take a slightly longer route-giving you time to back off.

YORICK3.png

Untitled-1.png

Yorick's E is Mourning Mist

Yorick throws a black mist that splashes aross an area dealing 15% of the targets current health. Affected enemy champions and monsters are slowed and marked. Marked enemies give Yorick bonus move speed when moving towards them.

dot-pattern.pngYour E is really versitile. It can be used offensivly to chase enemies (thanks to the increased movment speed) but it can also be used to escape. The slow is really good if you're trying to escape. For example, when running away you can use your E to slow the enemies and then use your W to trap them whilst slowed. Alternativly, you can start fights with it. Such as using your E, catch them with W and then follow up with Q's and auto attacks.

YORICK4.png

Untitled-1.png

Yorick's Ultimate is Eulogy of the Isles

Yorick summons Maiden of Mist and 2 Mist Walkers. She remains on the battle field until she dies. If he deals damage to the target, he will deal 5% of their max health as extra damage.

dot-pattern.pngYour ultimate can be used to attack enemies, but also to attack towers. If you have a hefty minion wave, you can use it to deal even more damage to the tower.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Corrupting Potion is the optimal starting item.
Dorans Shield is good against poke enemies and ranged ones.
Dorans Blade is an okay start, but it's not always sustainable.

Core Items

    The first item is Tri-Force.
Your second item should be Boots.
    You need Stereks Gage third.
I like to get ZZ Portal fourth
Your 5th item is Spirit Visage
Your final item is going to be Dead Mans Plate

Situational Items

Your traditional and most popular build. This is what you'll be building most games.
Items that are good against heavy AD teams.
Items that are good against heavy AP teams.

Item Build

Untitled-1.png

Yorick has a very good build path. At the start of the game, you have three choices of starting items. I personally prefer to take 2033.png Corrupting Potion because it gives me lots of sustain. It also allows me to use my abilities more often and without worrying too much about my mana. If you wish to play more aggressively you can take 1055.png Doran's Blade. This item will allow you to deal more damage to the enemy laner, however, this is very risky and will not always work. If you are against an AP champion top lane, such as 10.png Kayle, 50.png Swain, 8.png Vladamir or 17.png Teemo then you may want to take 1054.png Doran's Shield.

Untitled-1.png

Your first major item is going to be 3078.png Trinity Force. This item is quiet expensive, so it will take a lot of time to purchase it. However, once you have it- you will be incredibly strong. This item grants a range of bonuses that will improve your gameplay. Because the item takes lots of time to purchase fully, you can purchase small parts of it and then upgrade it Second. If I am against an AP lane, then I would recommend getting and upgrading 1001.png Boots first. You want to get 3111.png Magic Resist Boots. If you do not get early boots upgrade, then you want to get 1001.png Boots second.  You can get either 3111.png Magic Resist Boots or 3047.png Armor Boots. These are the only two I recommend taking.

Untitled-1.png

The third item to purchase is 3053.png Stereks Gage. This item gives you health and damage. It will allow you to sustain for longer and deal more damage whilst alive. Overall a very good item. Your fourth item is going to be 3512.png ZZ'Portal. This item is very good and will give you a tun of defensive stats such as MR and Armor. But we are only really getting it for the active. This item will aid in helping us push towers. This item is good as you can constantly have 1 or 2 lanes pushed when you're using this item. Also, You could ZZ portal bot and then group, or you can rotate to another lane and push that.

If you do not want to get 3512.png ZZ portal 4th, then you can get it last. I like it early personally.

Untitled-1.png

Your final two items are going to be 3065.png Spirit Visage and 3742.png Dead Mans Plate. These two items give you a wide range of defensive stats and will allow you to stay healthier in team fights. These two items are great. If you didn't purchase 3512.png ZZ'Portal 4th, you should get it last and replace it with 3065.png Spirit Visage as your 4th item.179.png

VS

Aatrox

Easy

This is a decent matchup for you. Aatrox isn't very strong but taking harass from him is no good. Poke him when you can with your E and Qs. Because he is a melee champion, you should go for an early trade. When you have 3 graves up, use your Q and go in on the enemy.

VS

Camille

Hard

This is a hard matchup because Camille is very good against AD melee champions. Yorick will suffer in this lane because she has the overall damage advantage. She also is very mobile and can escape your W. Because he is a melee champion, you should go for an early trade. When you have 3 graves up, use your Q and go in on the enemy. This is one way of pushing the lane into your advantage.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Cho'Gath is a Medium matchup. He's really easy to play against but is more frustrating than anything- this is why i've rated this matchup as a Medium. Try your best to sustain adn survive. He has lots of CC so try to dodge as much of it as possible. This is a farm lane unless you get a gank.

VS

Darius

Hard

Because he is a melee champion, you should go for an early trade. When you have 3 graves up, use your Q and go in on the enemy. Beware of Darius' bleed during this stage as he will out damage you. Remember his Q- once he's used it try to escape it or get close to him. If you can dodge it, perfect. If not, then get as close as possible to him because it will reduce the damage.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium

This is a medium matchup because Dr.Mundo is very good at farming and can easily beat you. His damage is insane if you let him poke you. Go for early trades and try to dodge his skill shots.

VS

Fiora

Hard

This is a farm lane. They are incredibly strong so make sure to play safe. They have the damage advantage and can easily kill you. Try your best to survive the lane and not die. You can go for early trades if you have graves up.

VS

Galio

Easy

This is a tank matchup and you should win it. They are also melee so this is good for you. In the early stages of the laning phase you want to go in for trades whenever you have 3 graves up. When they're about to come up- go in for a combo. Beware of his CC and try to dodge it if possible. You can counter him with your W.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

This is a farm lane. They are incredibly strong so make sure to play safe, you have to dodge as many of his barrels as possible. They have the damage advantage and can easily kill you if you let them poke you. Try your best to survive the lane and not die. You can go for early trades if you have graves up.

VS

Gragas

Easy

This is a tank matchup and you should win it. They are also melee so this is good for you. In the early stages of the laning phase you want to go in for trades whenever you have 3 graves up. When they're about to come up- go in for a combo. Beware of his CC and try to dodge it if possible.

VS

Malphite

Easy

This is a tank matchup and you should win it. They are also melee so this is good for you. In the early stages of the laning phase you want to go in for trades whenever you have 3 graves up. When they're about to come up- go in for a combo. Beware of his CC and try to dodge it if possible.

VS

Maokai

Medium

This is a tank matchup and you should win it. But Maokai is Maokai, and is incredibly strong if you let him go for trades. He has sustain and insane damage, keep that in mind when going for trades. Also do not stand to close to the bushes and beware of saplings. They are also melee so this is good for you. In the early stages of the laning phase you want to go in for trades whenever you have 3 graves up. When they're about to come up- go in for a combo. Beware of his CC and try to dodge it if possible. You can counter him with your W.

VS

Nautilus

Medium

This is a tank matchup and you should win it. They are also melee so this is good for you. In the early stages of the laning phase you want to go in for trades whenever you have 3 graves up. When they're about to come up- go in for a combo. Beware of his CC and try to dodge it if possible. You can counter him with your W.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

The enemy has high damage output in the early game. Try your best to farm what you can and avoid fighting at all costs. This lane should be a farm lane for you, but the enemy will want to fight. Try to keep the wave in a favourable position and do not push. They can heavily deny you.

VS

Quinn

Hard

The enemy has high damage output in the early game. Try your best to farm what you can and avoid fighting at all costs. This lane should be a farm lane for you, but the enemy will want to fight. Try to keep the wave in a favourable position and do not push. They can heavily deny you.

VS

Riven

Hard

The enemy has high damage output in the early game. Try your best to farm what you can and avoid fighting at all costs. This lane should be a farm lane for you, but the enemy will want to fight. Try to keep the wave in a favourable position and do not push. They can heavily deny you.

VS

Rumble

Medium

This is an easy matchup but is rather frustrating to play against. Try your best to farm and back off he goes in to trade with you. You should poke when you have your graves up, but other than that- play relatively safe. He can easily kill you because of his rumbleflamethrower.png Flamespitter. I recommend getting early Magic resist boots.

VS

Singed

Easy

This is an easy matchup but is rather frustrating to play against. Try your best to farm and back off he goes in to trade with you. You should poke when you have your graves up, but other than that- play relatively safe. If he decides to to proxy farm you, then farm under your tower. D O N T C H A S E S I N G E D

VS

Sion

Easy

This is a tank matchup and you should win it. They are also melee so this is good for you. In the early stages of the laning phase you want to go in for trades whenever you have 3 graves up. When they're about to come up- go in for a combo. Beware of his CC and try to dodge it if possible. You can counter him with your W.

VS

Swain

Hard

The enemy has high damage output in the early game. Try your best to farm what you can and avoid fighting at all costs. This lane should be a farm lane for you, but the enemy will want to fight. Try to keep the wave in a favourable position and do not push. They can heavily deny you.

VS

Teemo

Hard

The enemy has high damage output in the early game. Try your best to farm what you can and avoid fighting at all costs. This lane should be a farm lane for you, but the enemy will want to fight. Try to keep the wave in a favourable position and do not push. They can heavily deny you.

VS

Trundle

Easy

This is an easy matchup but is rather frustrating to play against. Try your best to farm and back off he goes in to trade with you. You should poke when you have your graves up, but other than that- play relatively safe.

VS

Vladimir

Hard

The enemy has high damage output in the early game. Try your best to farm what you can and avoid fighting at all costs. This lane should be a farm lane for you, but the enemy will want to fight. Try to keep the wave in a favourable position and do not push. They can heavily deny you.

Early Game Back to Top

Early Game and Laning for Yorick

Untitled-1.png

Yorick is not very strong early. You need your items to get strong and deal damage. With that said, you need to play relatively safe in the early game until you have some levels behind you and an item or two. At level 1 you want to start yorickq.png Q and get the level 2 advantage. To get level 2 first, you need to kill 7 minions before the enemy. Once you have level 2- you need to walk up in the lane, use your yoricke.png E and follow up with auto attacks on the enemy. If you cannot go for an early all in, then just farm and play safe.

You can go in for a early trade once you have 3 graves up. To get graves quickly, last hit with your yorickq.png Q.

Until level 6 you will be mostly just farming. However, you should try to poke when ever possible. Before going in for a trade, make sure to have as many graves up as possible. Read below for some combos that you can use!179.png

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid Game for Yorick

Untitled-1.png

During the Mid Game is when Yorick really shines. By this time you should have your first item, boots and building towards your third item. You are very good at pushing and fighting enemies - because of your passive. Before going in for any trades, make sure to have as many graves around you as possible.

Because Yorick can be played as a team fighter and a split pusher, you should push side lanes and then group. In the mid game, you want to be as proactive as possible. If your team needs you to group then you should, however if your team can fight without you then you should continue split pushing.

If an enemy champion comes to stop you splitpushing, you can either try to fight them or rotate to help your team. If nobody is coming, then use your yorickr.png ultimate to get the tower quicker! But beware, if an enemy does come- there may be others following them.179.png

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game Yorick

Untitled-1.png

Late game is when Yorick can fall off if you've been playing him wrong. You will need to either focus on splitpushing or grouping. I recommend grouping and helping your team. Because Yorick can trap enemies with his yorickw.png W, in these late staged team fights, you want to hit whoever you can and enclose them.

Yorick is hard to solo carry with, so you need to have good communication in the late game to win. Try your best to deal damage and help your team. You cannot directly control your yorickr.png ultimate, so make sure to place it down whenever you can.

Before going for any sort of team fight, make sure to have as many graves around you as possible. Your ghouls will deal lots of damage to the enemy if you have them up!179.png

Combos Back to Top

Combos

Untitled-1.png

yoricke.png  E + yorickw.png W + yorickq.png Q  | Standard lane combo. You start with your E to slow the enemies, then you use W to trap them. You then walk in and follow up with your auto attacks and Q.

yoricke.png  E + yorickw.png W + yorickq.png Q  + yorickr.png R | Level 6 all in. Make sure to trap them before using your ultimate. If you fail your W, then just back off.

yoricke.png E + yorickq.png Q | Standard laning phase combo.

yorickq.png Q +  yoricke.png E | Standard laning phase combo.

yorickw.png W + yoricke.png E + yorickq.png Q | Combo against melee champions.

yorickw.png W + yoricke.png E + yorickq.png Q + yorickr.png R | Combo against melee champions after 6.

Important to Remember

Untitled-1.png

  • If you miss your W do not continue with your combo.
  • Make sure to have as many graves up before going in for trades.
  • Watch your W location, the timing can screw up your combos.
  • Watch your mana bar before going in for trades.

Team Fighting Back to Top

Team Fighting

Untitled-1.png

Yorick is a really good champion because he can team fight in two different ways. The first way is fighting the enemy backline. This is pretty simple and is something that you will be doing in most games. You want to use all your abilities and try to kill the enemy backline. Remember to use your yorickr.png ultimate even if you're going to die!

The second way is by focusing the enemy frontline and peeling for you carries. This is a really good way on protecting them and also dealing damage. If you do not get ahead as Yorick, then you should probably do this in the game. Not everybody can peel for their carries, but Yorick can! Use your yorickw.png W to catch anyone who is trying to get onto your ADC.

It is important to know which to do and when, unfortuantly it is incredibily situational so you need to decide what you should be doing.179.png

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

Tips and Tricks

Untitled-1.png

  • Your yorickq.png  Q is an auto attack reset. Remember to auto attack, and then use your yorickq.png Q.
  • Before using your ultimate on the enemy tower, make sure to have ghouls up. They will tank the tower before your  yorickr.png ultimate creature.
  • Your yorickw.png W can be used offensively or defensively. In team fights, you want to use it either on the enemy frontline or try to hit the enemy backline.
  • If the enemy is ganking your lane, you can use your yorickw.png W to protect yourself. Place your yorickw.png W in their path. Moving on from that, you can also use your yoricke.png E to slow them.
  • If you are low on health, use your yorickq.png Q to heal yourself- it's not much, but it's better than no healing.
  • You can summon more Graves by last hitting with your yorickq.png Q.

How to lane Melee Vs Ranged Back to Top

How to lane Melee vs Ranged

Untitled-1.png

In League of Legends, there are a plethora of champions with different shapes, sizes and abilities. Many champions are melee and are recognizable by their point blank basic attacks. If you’ve ever played a game of League and if you’re reading this, you would know how unfortunate and painful it is to play as a melee champion against a ranged one.

Many players seem to give up the laning phase when they see that they’re against a ranged champion. Fear not! We will discuss some things you can do in these matchups to help improve your laning experience. Using the information presented will allow you to be more active in lane rather than giving it over to the enemy.

Starting Items

If you are a champion that doesn’t have the best early game, then I recommend starting with Doran’s Shield. This item is good as it gives you some early defensive stats that will benefit you in the early levels and help you sustain. Realistically, you will be unable to always trade exclusively against ranged champions. Taking early defensive stats will allow you to survive for longer during the early stages of the game.

image1510910303.png
Dorans Shield is a great starting item.

The item itself gives 80 health and flat health regeneration every 5 seconds. This is good because it will heal you back quicker when you are attacked. It will also restore health when taking damage from enemies. I do not recommend taking harass for free, but in some situations you will have to take damage to farm. This is overall a really good item to start with because it will allow you to survive in lane for longer against the enemy's harassment.

Level 1/2

In Melee versus Ranged matchups, the lane is quickly dictated by who hits level 2 first. In the all matchups, you will want to hit level 2 first but especially in melee versus ranged. If you do not get the level 2 first, then you will be denied minions and farm. While you may not be able to do anything against Ranged champions early, it is important to hit the level 2 to stay up in CS. Being an equal level will prevent the enemy going for extremely trades in the early levels. This will also prevent you from being poked out and losing minions and the experience. Farming is something you need to do and you must make sure to keep the wave in a reasonable position so you can farm easier.

Trading

Going for early trades against champions with ranged can be one way of swinging the lane into your advantage. If you can get the level 2 advantage, then you can go for a trade if the enemy is still level 1.

You can try to fight them if you have ranged abilities such as Akali Q, Zed Q and Talon W. However, this is very situational and depends on the champion you’re playing and who you’re against. It is recommended to look up your champion's power spikes. Most Assassins have the opportunity for an early level trade such as Zed’s W+Q combo. Champions who deal damage will benefit more from these early level trades compared to tanks.

Ability Farming

Most champions in League of Legends have at least 1 damaging ability. Some of them cost mana, some cost health and others cost energy. If you're in a matchup where you are being heavily denied CS from a champion with range, then I recommend trying to farm with your abilities.

If your ability doesn't cost any mana, then it is possible that you can farm with that ability. Dr. Mundo, The Madman of Zaun, has his Q ability that doesn't cost any mana but instead health. This ability will refund the cost if you kill the enemy hit. This can be a good way of farming because you are able to regenerate and get the cost back immediately or over time.

There are some other champions that can benefit from using their abilities to farm with such as Zed. While this sounds good on paper, it is highly situational. You should not, and I do not recommend using your abilities to only farm with. You need to poke and last hit. If you are only farming with your abilities, then you lose all your poke potential. You should not use your abilities to farm if they have high mana costs.

image1510910750.jpg

Sacrifice CS for Experience

Getting farm is incredibly important. In lanes where you will be poked when going to take farm, it is best to sacrifice some of them for the experience. While you do need gold and minions to buy items, experience and staying alive is more important. You need to stay up in CS and levels to still be hazardous to the enemy. While high elo players suggest getting a high amount of CS at 10 minutes, in lanes like this you will have to take what you can get. I recommend always trying to get Cannon minions, but be prepared to sacrifice some. Is that minion gold worth the amount of harassment from the enemy? Keep that in mind when farming.

Itemization

Depending on your champion, you may need to pick up more defensive items early. If you’re a tank and playing against someone with range such as a Kayle or Swain. I recommend buying early armor or magic resist before getting your first core item.

image1510911314.png

In Season 7, Bramble Vest was introduced and it is an amazing item. It’s a mini Thornmail with the same “Thorns” passive. It will deal damage back to enemies when you’re being attacked from basic attacks. This is good as it will allow you to deal damage to them when they attack you. At 1000 gold, the item grants 35 armor which will also help you when trading and farming.

There are many other defensive items out there. Some may be more viable then others and you should build what you need right now to survive the laning phase. Ninja Tabi is another good example of an early defensive item. However, you should only get this item if you will directly benefit from it.

Minion Wave

In every laning phase, you should play around with minion waves to get the most out of your lane. This depends on your champion, but you should try to have it in a more defensive position outside of your tower. You do not want to push the wave because the enemy will easily freeze the wave in a position much further up in the lane and deny you CS. This is something you do not want to happen. When backing or roaming, push the wave as far as you can so they cannot take your tower. Minions will act on instinct and if you’re being attacked by autos from the enemy champion, they will switch targets. This means the wave may mess up - keep that in mind when playing around with minions.

Roaming

If you’ve messed up the minion wave and are being heavily denied, then you should roam. If you are a champion with any potential CC, then you can look to roam and rotate with or without your jungler. Before roaming, make sure that it will be worth it. Push the wave so the enemy cannot take your tower. Look for potential opening in the game where you can gank your middle or bot. Wait for the enemy to use a core ability before going ham.

You must remember that you will be in a disadvantaged position at the start of the game. It is important to farm up and play safe especially early. You should try to position the wave in a favourable position to sustain a high level of creeps while also staying healthy and not being poked easily by enemies. It is better to stay a few CS behind early rather than having to back because you took too much aggro. Practise makes perfect when playing melee versus ranged. Every lane is different so keep an eye on what you can do to have the best possible outcome to this laning phase. In many cases, experience matters as League of Legends is a very, very situational game.

Basic Creature Interaction

  • You cannot always control your ghouls. However, hitting an enemy with your yoricke.png E will make any ghouls leap towards that enemy. This means in order for your creatures to deal focused damage to the enemy champion, then you'll have to hit them with your yoricke.png E.
  • Your yorickr.png ultimate will continue walking even when you've left it in a lane. She will run it down that lane, dealing damage to minions and towers that are in her way. When she is spawned, she will bring with her a few ghouls.
  • If your yoricke.png ultimate sees that you're nearby and focusing an enemy champion, she will come to help you and focus them too.
