You can even start E 2nd with similar results, maybe a bit lower if you start raptors and do a full Redside clear including Golems. I like to start 2nd if I do a red or even raptors start to maybe get a cheese gank on mid if mid is getting pushed in and burn a summoner or even a First Blood.

Starting Items

    Talisman because Zac starts red side and does AoE damage and stuff

Core Items

    I prefer chilling smite to slow an enemy champion long enough to ult and widen that window, also Zac does (Kinda) burst damage when he engages and chilling smite is good with that.

Situational Items

    Depends on enemy team. Take Tabi when enemy team has auto attacking champions or a high ad comp. Especially if enemy ADC is fed (or Yasuo down here in Gold). Take mercurial in the case of heavy cc and also if enemy ap (Midlane??) champion is snowballing, it mitigates early damage by quite a bit when you e.g gank. (Similar with Tabi) I wouldn't not recommend any of the other boots, Zac is a tank and unlike e.g Elise who often buys Mobility boots early to gank a lot is very useful and becomes stronger as the game goes on.
    Both are very good, I often take Randuins because it is a really strong item and synergises well with Zac e.g when running down an enemy to ult back into the team, the randuin's slow+Chilling smite+Q or E. It is also very good vs the ADC in this meta who build Crit heavy e.g Infinity Edge,Stattik Shiv,Phantom Dancer,Rapid Fire Cannon (Or just all the Zeal items). I often build Randuins over Dead Mans. Dead mans is also a good option, especially if you are not great with Activateable items. On top of that the Auto attack slow also synergises with kit really well. It is a good option vs Mid-Range champions that you can run to or engage upon without taking too much punishement. (Strongly recommend the Randuins tho!!) Thornmail is a really great item. Zac is always the frontline and it is a really good item because you will be soaking up a lot of damage being the tank, and on top of your cinderhulk, you actually deal a noticeable amount of damage to carries without much life steal. It is also good vs a fed Attack Damage carry champion that has heavy life steal e.g Fiora, Yasuo or an adc. Over all a strong item, I will build it most games.
    I would often build this item if I have a really fed carry that I know I can rely upon to do good work (Carry me) (Often your duoQ buddy maybe?) It is a very good item and offers quite a bit of tackiness. It is a very gold efficient item.
    These 2 items work wonder together, if you activate Stoneplate and then the Locket, you and the ally champions around you will receive a HUGE shield because the Locket shield scales off of Maximum health. They are both insanely gold efficient. Can also be conjoined with Warmogs for big gains (shield). I sometimes build locket 2nd item if lets say my mid and top/bot are both doing good and need help from an assassin on the enemy team or a few member and I follow it up with the StonePlate, then warmogs. The warmogs gives a lot of health and we all know Zac's in-game size scales off of health. It also gives insanely fast health regeneration after you lets say won a fight and want to take baron or elder or an objective etc or if you got chunked. These 3 items together actually don't cost a lot but are very efficient.
    Spirits Visage is a great item for Zac. I will build this item at some point in the game if there is any AP on the enemy team, it feels really good when playing because of the pretty insane blob health gain. The CDR is also very good for Zac's long cool downs on his vital and game-changing abilities. Adaptive Helm is built very rarely, I would only build it versus a Cass or Syndra or an AP champion's damage which relies heavily on spamming abilities e.g Cass E and Q and Syndra Q. I will almost never build Abyssal mask unless my team has a heavy ap comp or if I have an Orianna on my team who relies on me to deliver the ball or an Amumu? Or a Rumble (any AP champion with a high impact AoE ult) I almost never build this item personally.

Here are some champions who out pressure you and just are not desirable for you be be up against, in the jungle and out in the game.


79.png Can stop your E engage with his E and also delay or stop the death of the champion that you have ulted back into your team with his Explosive Cask.
60.png Out pressures you in the early and ganks a lot faster and clears a lot faster in the jungle, if she finds you anywhere in the jungle she will kill you if you don't have any help. Can counter jungle you very easily because of clear speed. Later on in the game you have a larger game impact than her. Probably a lot of champions that do similar things sorry if I don't mention all. 
40.png Her Q and ult counters your engage completely. A good Janna will just interrupt most of your Es and can save carries with her Ult BEFORE YOU BEGIN CHARGE UP OF ULT UNDER ENEMY CHAMPION!!! Definitely room for counter play like any other champion but yeah. Tough.

412.pngCan be called as a counter, a good Thresh will be able to Hook you in mid air or flay you off of a carry. Tough.
78.png Her W can cause you to get stunned if you E into it and also her ult can take you out of the fight when you are trying to get onto a carry to ult back into the team.
