Summoner Spells Back to Top

3.png Exhaust is the primary spell you're going to use as support 26_64.png. It reduces damage which helps against burst on you or your ally and slows for easier kites on enemies. You can use 14.png if you think there is no situation in the game you're about to enter in which 3.png will not make a difference compared to ignite. (Not Realistic)

4.png Flash is Magic, Flash should be Worshiped, Flash is GG. A staple for every champion quick gap closer/gap opener for kites and getting into position or getting out of a bad position. Only on certain champions for certain metas will flash not be used.

Ferocity:

Sorcery - Increases ability power and spell damage. Good steroid passive.

Double Edged Sword - As the name states deal and receive more damage.

Natural Talent - AP per level passive damage increase.

Oppressor - Our combo slows and then stuns the enemy(ies). Perfect for more damage output.

Piercing Thoughts - Extra MagicPen to help you're Bomb damage.

Deathfire Touch - ThunderLord's Decree is the Hype right now with all the pressure it bring from the cunning tree. Unfortunately as a support Zilean its hard to get the proc off, especially when during the mid game where you're trying to land a stun and be ready to support an ally. You do not have the time to auto so you can get the proc off for barely any damage, basically it becomes irrelevant. Now you're stuck with no keystone and that's not good, so just go DFT and guarantee your extra damage.

Cunning:

Wanderer - Movement speed outside of combat. Allowing for faster movement through out the map, helping with catching up to team fights and ward placing/clearing.

Secret Stash - Potions and flasks last a bit longer getting more out of them and transforms health potions into Mana Biscuits which give you health and mana.

Meditation - Built in 3028.png but not as strong. Helps you stay in lane longer with more mana to assist in peels/engages.
Bandit - Passive gold over time and gold on hit. Helps with get you gold faster as you shouldn't be last hitting with your adc.

Patch 5.21 New Passive -  Time in a Bottle!

COOLDOWN 120 seconds
EXPERIENCE RATE 2/3.5/5/6/12 every 5 seconds (at levels 6/11/16/18)
Time in a Bottle cannot be used in combat

Time in a Bottle - This passive seems very overpowered at the moment. I've play tested it and it's roughly the same results each game.  We maintain an even lane against enemy they will fall behind 1 level consistently and if we get ahead we maintain same levels (as a duo bot) with the solo laners. Not sure if that's what Riot intended but if its not abuse it while you can, this is definitely an amazing and ridiculous buff!!

Time Bomb - Your first ability to be maxed, its stun duration is increased and more damage for the early game harass during lane. With recent changes it was made into a skill shot and stuns if landed in succession. Your Only damage spell even if you miss people would rather not take damage so it can be used for zoning as well.

Rewind -  This should be maxed second. You need the reduced cooldown to you use it more often and be able to spam out Q stuns and E speed ups and slow downs. The bread and butter of the kit it reduces the cooldown of your Q and E by 10 seconds and it's what ties all your combos together such as Q-W-Q / E-Q-W-Q-E

Time Warp - Your speed up and slow down it starts with 40% at rank 1 and that's all you'll need for early and mid game. This is the last spell to be maxed.

Chronoshift - This spell makes 26_64.png what he is and divides the legendary Zileans from the Aram Zileans. Having to determine which ally and at what time will be targeted by your R will win or lose you games.

3092.png Has a really strong activation so I'm going to have to just say it's going to be a preference between 3069.png/3092.png Talisman brings more utility while Frost Queen's a lot more aggro with the bonus damage.

2044_32.png Knowing when you're enemy is coming helps you die less and control more objectives.

2049_32.png Free wards, 4 wards every time you go back to base and a staple for any support no questions asked.

3028_32.png Keeps your mana at healthy levels and allows for more spam on your spells in team fights.

3069_32.png Perfect item for Zilean early gives HP regen, MP regen, CDR, movement speed, and passive GP/10 with an active that speed boosts all allies in its range. it helps with retreating and initiating fights. Ex: drop a Q on 54_64.png use the active then use your E on him (turning him into Sonic) he runs in ults they drop, then Q again on 54_64.png and stun and watch your carries clean up ezpz.

3364_32.png Trash their wards with less vision they have a harder time controlling objectives and die more due to lack of vision.

3270_32.png you get enough cooldown from 3069_32.png3174_32.png so you don't need the 3158_32.png and it helps with movement around the map.

3174_32.png Tremendous mana regen during mid/late game and you will no longer have mana problems spam over and over and over.

3089_32.png You're getting into late game and you don't want your damage bombs to fall off so hard they begin to heal your enemies! Extra AP helps with damage and with all the combined items up to this point your mid and adc carries will revive with full health and tanks with 50% plus which is huge when major cooldowns have been blown already to kill such an important target.

3023_32.png luxury item helps with more slows makes you move faster and makes warding and walking through jungles safer.

3190_32.png Helps against the 1_64.pngs, 115_64.pngs, 50_64.pngs, etc. With the shield active and tank aura it helps your team survive against wombo combos or fed mid laners with a lot of team damage. The extra health also helps you with some added tankiness.

3026_32.png If you're the focus in team fights this helps a lot with not having to use your ult on yourself. Extra armor and magic resist helps with some tankiness and resurrecting twice is always fun. 

3050.png When your far ahead and want to end the game, the stats give you decent armor for when the ADCs start to hurt and the bonuses granted off the proc are outrages and def a plus! Your ADC will love the 50% crit boost and spammy APs will like the 20% AP boost as well. You can switch targets every 1 minute making it very versatile. I instantly fell in love with this item on release.

When he uses his set up zone out his ADC with double Q and stun so he can't do damage, if you miss its ok they will know he can't walk through it or he will be stunned so they'll either not go in at all or take a longer route around the circle giving your adc extra time to move after the knock up. You can also just stun the ali pre 6 and punish him super hard and/or kill him. With his regen harass becomes a little pointless at time but it's ok just ask for help from other lanes and you'll do fine.

Simple match up just Dodge his Qs and when he goes out to collect meeps harass and zone his adc making the lane impossible if he tries to come back into lane through choke points or river through Qs and Es on him and punish him.

*Note: You can throw Qs in the middle of his tunnel and he will be stunned on his way out

Braum

Easy

His shield blocks your bombs damage ONLY the stuns will still go off and you don't even have to aim it correctly  b/c the shield picks it up right away attempting to block actually becoming a magnet and making for easy stuns on him and his adc . Dodge Qs and slow him if he lands a Q he wont catch up to go for AA damage. Easy to see his all in coming at you and you can prepare accordingly.

Her shields early block your Q damage, so don't spend your mana trying to harass they have around the same mana cost and things will stalemate.  Wait until you gain a good amount of regen and higher Q ranks other than that just use it for a stun set up (remember to use slow first or you it will be extremely difficult to land Qs on her).

Medium

Her damage early is really good so you're main priority and not getting hit her shields coast a ton of mana and she has no speed increase unless the uses a charge which doesn't matter since your slow will make it useless (Slow percentages and calculated from current movement speed not base)

Same as 12_64.png when she goes in zone out her adc or stun her off your adc or w/e ally in the current situation. Be careful when using R immediately after she uses hers because her allies might not get in range to nuke the target and you don't want to waste the cooldown on nothing

Hard

Her mana costs are about the same as yours and her kit is a bit stronger in lane so just play passive and wait for assistance from jungler and other laners. Her harass is really strong early but if she uses rabbit go for a E-Q-W-Q-E combo and try to punish her once your adc breaks cc since she wont be able to shield

Morgana

Hard

She's a nightmare in lane. Just hide behind creeps to dodge her snare and bait our black shields for set up with your ADC. You can begin to try and out trade her once you get some mana regen but until then just play passive no need to feed her or her lane.

Nami

Easy

She's a bit of a problem early but once you get enough regen you can out damage her heals. Her spells cost a lot more mana and she will oom herself trying to keep up with your harass. Her passive is ruined with your slow and she's really squishy making her pretty free in lane

Sona

Medium

Early Lane she is very dominant over Zilean with her Q spam into empowered autos but just like 267_64.png you begin to out damage and out regen her heals and harass. She's just as squishy as you and you can set her up for easy kills

Soraka

Hard

her silence makes it really difficult to complete the the double Q combo and her strong heals make your R harder to outplay with since they have time to heal and land a silence/snare on you target being revived. Survive in lane by playing passive ask for help from laners and push into mid game quickly where you outshine her kit with extremely low cooldowns

Hello everyone thank you for going over my guide. My name is Loqki, recently promoted to Plat 1 hoping for Diamond soon! I began to play league when 99_64.png was introduced as a new champion. I began playing 26_64.png Season 3, i had taken a break for a year and had no one to play so i decided ill have some fun with Zilean in some quick ranked games. I did very well that game and continued playing him and made it to gold 1 out of silver 4 with ease. Ever since then i continue playing Him as a main and hope to inspire and teach other people how fun ZIlean really is.

This Guide is for SoloQ ranked and should help with picking up the basics of the champion. Zilean is very dependent on learning through experience and failure since he spells are extremely situational but with enough practice it gets ridiculously fun!

Pros & Cons Back to Top

Pros:

-Incredible play maker

-Great poke early game

-Amazing peel for allies

-Amazing initiation through manipulation of allied and enemy movement speeds

-Pretty safe laner with his slows and stuns he's pretty difficult to gank.

-Extremely Adaptive to all situations


Cons:

-Very Squishy

-Very skill dependent

-His Main CC is hard to land (Practice makes Perfect)

-Very Difficult to learn the situations and how to use your abilities effectively for each one

Tips and Tricks! Back to Top

-Your Q does not have to blow up on a target to stun you can drop 2 on the ground and if an enemy walks over it they will be stunned.

-Your Q can be placed on and picked up by allies, using the Q combo on a melee ally will detonate and trigger the stun. It can be easier sometimes to land the stun on a melee ally since he/she will the in the thick of the fight and wont be trying to dodge it.

-Be Careful using your R on a full health target as the enemy will just ignore him and kill a different target, which necessarily isn't a bad thing since its ridiculous peel for the ulted ally.

-With dash heavy champions like 92_64.png it's almost always best to just slow her than try to outrun with a speed up, since the distance covered will only be the jumps and the target will go nowhere without the dashes help while slowed.

-Your Q combo is really easy to land when you slow your target and you can bait out flashes very easily.
