Welcome to my Guide on Zoe!

Accounts: Precocity (NA), AspectSG (NA), TaliyahBestGirl (NA), Áspect (NA), Àspect (NA)

divider_4.png

4.png Flash
  • Your only form of escape
  • Can be used to escape/secure a kill
  • Extremely useful and to be used in every match

6.png Ghost
  • Can be used to escape ganks and secure kills
  • Allows you to chase and kite more effectively

 14.png Ignite
  • Good to get early kills in lane
  • Use in match-ups you can win
  • Effective against healers (ex: Vlad, Swain, etc.)

3.png Exhaust
  • Use this against aggressive enemies and assassins
  • Extremely safe pick that can help survive many situations and even secure kills or land combos

21.png Barrier
  • Good pick into assassins or champions with high burst
  • Gives a lot of survivability both early and late game

12.png Teleport
  • Use against farm lanes
  • Useful for pulling off ganks to other lanes, and still keeping control over your lane
  • While good for map pressure, you lack high lane pressure

7.png Heal
  • An off pick but still good for survivability with the healing and extra movement speed
  • Can surprise enemies that think they have the kill
  • Works well into champions that have a lot of skills shots (ex: 101.png268.png, etc.) to help dodge, and gain health (for burst)

1.png Cleanse
  • Good into enemy comps with heavy CC (crowd control)
  • Essential in point-and-click CC lanes (i.e., 4.png13.png)
  • Lacks lane pressure, but increases survivability
  • Can help against 3.png14.png, or 11.png debuffs

New Runes Back to Top

divider_1.png

Runes Reforged

*Any runes not listed are, in my opinion, not good enough at this moment or just on Zoe as a champion

divider_4.png

KEYSTONES

Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 - best ability for poke, and waveclear if the enemy stands in minions. Synergizes really well with Sleepy Trouble Bubble (Zoe's E)

*This is the best keystone on Zoe and should always be taken in almost every situation. Other keystones are not as effective.

divider_4.png

SORCERY

Nullifying%20Orb.png?width=32 - Great into heavy AP matchups (i.e. 7.png105.png) or heavy AP jungler/mid combos.

Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32 - A pretty good choice on Zoe that helps with early game sustain and ability spam. Helps keep your waveclear and sustain up.

The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=32 - Another good choice on Zoe. Helps keep her ultimate cooldown extremely low, on top of it's already low CD. Makes engaging with "Sleepy Trouble Bubble" or laning more poke a lot easier. Reduces CD to 9.35 seconds rank one (5 casts), but only to 6.8 seconds for rank 2 and 4.25 seconds at rank 3. (Original Ultimate CD: 11/8/5)

Transcendence.png?width=32 - Makes your CDR cap easier to hit, but is less needed as you will most likely be building Morellos, Hourglass, and Lichbane.

Celerity.png?width=32 - Movement speed works really well with your item builds (Lich Bane and Ludens) and also with your passive. One of the better choices between the 3 in this tree.

Absolute%20Focus.png?width=32 - My favorite choice on Zoe. It rewards staying healthy and gives you a lot of early game damage, especially for waveclear.

Scorch.png?width=32 - Really good for Zoe's poke using both Q or E.

Waterwalking.png?width=32 - Synergizes well with Celerity.png?width=32 and her other items, but isn't as good as the other options, in my opinion.

Gathering%20Storm.png?width=32 - My favorite choice of the three, the other being Scorch. Gives good early and late game damage to help your AP from falling off harder than it would.

divider_4.png

SECONDARY TREE 1: DOMINATION

cheap%20shot1.png?width=32 - Synergizes with Sleepy Trouble Bubble's damage amplification making your Q hit harder.

Sudden%20Impact.png?width=32 - Great use with your Ultimate, giving you constant Magic Penetration, especially when combined with 40% CDR and Ultimate Hat.

Zombie%20Ward.png?width=32 + Ghost%20Poro.png?width=32 - Both good choices, but the others are better. Gives you a lot more vision when invading, or helping your jungler out. Can lead to collapses with "Sleepy Trouble Bubble" that can pick off invading enemies, or unaware roamers.

Eyeball%20Collection.png?width=32 - Another good pick, but I usually take Ravenous%20Hunter.png?width=32 over it. Take this if you're confident in your roaming and especially if you're in voice coms with your jungler.

Ravenous%20Hunter.png?width=32 - My favorite choice of this tree. It can be replaced on personal preference, but it gives a lot of sustain to Zoe and her early game pressure.

Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=32 - Another viable choice, but not my favorite. Works well with Celerity.png?width=32 and Waterwalking.png?width=32 and movement speed items.

divider_4.png

SECONDARY TREE 2: INSPIRATION

Biscuit%20Delivery.png?width=32 - Not a bad choice, but could be better. Gives good in lane and scaling mana sustain.

Perfect%20Timing.png?width=32 - Works really well when building Hourglass and/or when you're into AD assassin matchups (i.e. 238.png91.png)

Magical%20Footwear.png?width=32 - Pretty good choice as it allows you to rush your core items without the burden of buying boots. Will impact early game roams however.

Future\'s%20Market.png?width=32 - Not the best choice, but not the worst either. Allows you to reach core items faster.

Minion%20Dematerializer.png?width=32 - I haven't personally tried this, but it sounds good on paper. Will probably help with clearing waves more efficiently with Q, as it is your only source of doing so.

Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32 - I also haven't tried this, but it doesn't seem bad, especially if you're buying times like Zhonyas or GLP.

Approach%20Velocity.png?width=32 - This doesn't seem bad either and would definitely work well with "Sleepy Trouble Bubble" and team comps with high CC.

divider_4.png

SECONDARY TREE 3: PRECISION

Presence%20of%20Mind.png?width=32 - I've been running this almost all of the time if I'm taking the Precision Tree. Gives good mana sustain, especially when not taking Manaflow Band.

Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=32 - The other essential choice if going into the Precision tree. Perfect for finishing off low health enemies.

divider_4.png

DISCLAIMER: Runes Reforged gives a lot of new options and different effects than the old runes. This guide is still a work in progress during the preseason, so these runes are subject to change constantly, until the new season starts. These Runes will be updated much more.

Description of Abilities

PREFERENCE SKILL ORDER: R>Q>E>W

zoepassive.png Passive: More Sparkles!
  • Casting an ability will cause your next auto attack or your bubble to do increased damage.
  • Acts similar to sheen procs.
  • Can be used on the first and second cast of Q

zoeq.png Q: Paddle Star
  • Can be cast two times and is Zoe's core damaging ability.
  • Distance traveled will increase the damage the star does.
  • Combed with E and ult can set up a lot of burst damage.

zoew.png W: Spell Thief
  • When an enemy uses a summoner spell or active item (from this list - Credit to Vandril) they leave behind a spell shard, available to be picked up by Zoe for a short period of time.
  • The spell or active item picked up will be bound to your "W" key, and will only last a short period of time before it disappears
  • Zoe can only pick up one spell shard at a time, but can click on shard to pick them up, even if she has one already (this will replace the current shard, if there is one).
  • Minions can also drop spell shards and will be indicated by a balloon hovering over one of the minions.
  • Zoe must kill the minion with the shard to receive it's shard
  • After using a shard (picked up by W), Zoe will gain a bursat of movement speed and produce 3 damaging orbs that float around her
  • This is similar to Ahri's W effect and will prioritize the enemy she is attacking

zoee.png E: Sleepy Trouble Bubble
  • Zoe throws a bubble a short distance that will cause an enemy to be drowsy before falling asleep for 2 seconds
  • If cast over a wall the range will double
  • If the bubble misses it will be placed as a trap on the ground for a few seconds
  • When in trap form, the bubble (as of 7.23) has a slightly larger hitbox than it appears

zoer.png R: Portal Jump
  • Zoe teleports forward before returning back to her original cast position.
  • She is allowed to cast/recast abilities during her ult
  • Her ult will proc Zoe's passive
  • Best used to engage with Sleepy Trouble Bubble or extend the range + damage on her Q
  • Can also be used to dodge skill shots, if timed properly.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Basic starting items for sustain, harass, and waveclear.
I usually looks for this on my first back. Gives good sustain, and the ability to snowball and roam.
Lost Chapter is a good start to Zoe's mana sustain and building into Morellos for CDR.
If running Manaflow Band, sustaining fine, or getting blue buffs you can take Fiendish Codex instead of a Lost Chapter start

Core Items

Ability Power and CDR are essential to Zoe's kit (frequent poke and burst).
Your core a majority of the time. Can be replaced with other options.
Works perfectly with Zoe's passive and gives a lot more burst. The extra movement speed also helps with Zoe's slippery nature and plays off of her W.
Really good use of protection as Zoe has no proper escapes. Usually build this 4th to max on CDR and to stay safe.
Final items that can be swapped in whatever order is needed for the game. Deathcap if no MR and void staff if building or will build MR.
Build as of 7.23 *items can be swapped as nessecary (Morello + Boots > Lich Bane > Zhoynas > Deathcap + Void Staff)

Situational Items

    Extra movement speed and burst.
Only buy if hard snowballing early and you are capable of not dying and losing stacks.
If you're into hard AP or hard CC matchups.
If you don't need the percentage penetration from Void Staff need to burn through health enemies.
divider_1.png
Item Guide

divider_4.png

Starting Items:

1056.png - Great for sustain in lane (health and mana), and more ability power

2003.png - Gives good health sustain

3340.png - Always get before leaving base, and upgrade to 3363.png or 3364.png at level 9

1082.png - Usually get on 2nd back. Allows for snowball and makes your potions heal more. The mana is also a good addition, but the main reason is to stack it on roams. This is really only good in match-ups where you get blue, or you can roam soon after backing.

2031.png - Gives good sustain and helps with roams and resetting back to your lane without having to spend gold on potions.

2055.png - Gives vision on the map. Really good for tracking the enemy jungler, clearing bushes to make secure roams, and set ganks up for your jungler.

divider_4.png

Core Items:

3802.png - Helps early game sustain and allows you to build into Morellos quickly.

3165.png - Gives sustain when building, and great stats when finished. Extra AP and mana, along with 20% CDR

3020.png - Can be switched out for other choices, but the magic pen. is good when having to get to get your early core.

- Boots Guide Below -

divider_4.png

Other Items:

3089.png - Perfect for enabling Zoe's assassin/poke playstyle

3135.png - Works extremely well against comps stacking magic resist. Will feel like nothing was even there.

3151.png - Applies a burn and gives good sustain and damage. The extra magic penetration also helps damage stay present while building/finishing this item. Works best into heavy HP champions due to it's % current health damage.

3116.png - Slows enemies allowing you to kite, or chase extremely well. Works well with Zoe's movement speed from items, but isn't the best item to buy unless you're snowballing,

3285.png - Provides heavy burst damage and can melt squishy targets constantly, and clear waves even faster.

3157.png - Best used into hard AD enemy teams and assassins (Ex: 238.png91.png, etc.) or those with hard engages that can take you out of a fight. Can keep off a lot of damage and allow you to stay alive and help your team. If you don't have a proper front-line, or are being focused, this is a good buy.

3102.png - Good against burst AP champions (Ex:  103.png134.png, etc.) to reduce their damage, and against comps with CC. Also, good against teams with hard engage, or pick potential (i.e, 22.png110.png)
3041.png - If you are snowballing, and you can keep your lead, feel free to upgrade your 1082.png to gain more early power.

divider_4.png

Boots Guide:

3020.png - Early magic penetration used in most circumstances. If building   3157.png or  3102.png  this option will give the magic penetration you need when behind an item.

3111.png - Helps into heavy CC match-ups, and heavy AP comps. Is also useful when not building hard MR items and need a bit of safety.

3047.png - Helps deal with heavy AA (auto-attack) teams, and heavy AD. Similar to mercury treads, can help stay safe if not building other defensive items.

3009.png - Good for early spike, and to match champions like 136.png. Slow resist and extra movement speed makes it easier to dodge skill shots, and for slows to be less punishing.

3158.png - Good for early spikes when you won't be needing magic penetration, and you aren't buying 3157.png or 3102.png (would over-cap CDR). CDR allows for more frequent roams and the ability to spells up more often.

Zoe's Combos Back to Top

divider_1.png
Zoe's Combos

divider_4.png

Q  dot-pattern.png Q: Zoe's most basic combo. Shooting the star behind you will give extra distance before launching it again for wave clear or basic poke damage in lane. This can also be done by shooting the start forward and redirecting the star quickly after, to either the sides or slightly forward.  If you're in range to auto attack feel free to do so.

E  dot-pattern.png Q dot-pattern.png Q + Auto: Another of Zoe's basic combos. Lading the E will give you time to shoot Q backwards and get both the E increase damage and the increased range damage on Q. The following auto will make good use of your passive.

Q  dot-pattern.png R dot-pattern.png Q + Auto: Used to gain distance for Q damage and is a quick and easy wave to poke, waveclear, or finish off kills.

dot-pattern.png E dot-pattern.png Q dot-pattern.png Q + Auto: Using R to get into melee range use Zoe's E to easily apply your sleep. While they are stunned, line up Q and finish the combo for maximum damage with no return.

dot-pattern.png R (backwards) dot-pattern.png Q dot-pattern.png Q + Auto: Another variation of the previous combo, but in a different order. Adds a different style of surprise to the combo, but lacks in E reliability.

dot-pattern.png R dot-pattern.png E dot-pattern.png Q + Auto: Not reliable but plays around the trickster element of Zoe, providing you can land your skill shots.

dot-pattern.png F dot-pattern.png E: A combo that gives you a lot of range to land your E. Great for engage or picking enemies as you teleport back to your R and out of danger.

dot-pattern.png R dot-pattern.png E dot-pattern.png Q: This combo is extremely reliant on landing your skill shots and is very quick. With little room for error the combo will not be used in a lot of situations and should be replaced with simpler and more effective combos.

R (Behind a Wall) dot-pattern.png E: Allows to cast E at a longer range and catches enemies off guard. Probably my favorite combo and is pretty similar to how high elo Fizz mains use their ult to kill their laners.

dot-pattern.png Q dot-pattern.png R: A way to shoot a Q by throwing it behind you and shooting it before R-ing foward to increase the distance, like you were to do a Q-R-Q. (Thanks to https://www.reddit.com/user/Kazistrasz)

*All other combos are most likely not worth noting (not reliable) or are similar variations of the few listed.

7.24 Nerfs and Fixes
This patch fixed a lot of Q bugs and also took away power where Zoe was too strong. W was nerfed on minion drop spells to only last 20 seconds from their original 40. Her E was also given a long stun duration, but has less range over walls, less of a slow, and only refunds the CD on champion hit.

I go by the summoner name AspectSG, and have been playing league for since September of 2015, and have 5 accounts in Diamond (S7).
I've recently been a Taliyah and Gangplank player and am now including Zoe in my lineup. I've play tested Zoe for a few games on PBE and will continue to update the guide, the more experience I have on her when she's on live.

This is also my second guide, the first being on Taliyah! Feel free to check it out here.
