Summoner Spells.

These are the two main support summoner spells.


3.pngExhaust

This is going to be your main summoner spell when you support. It reduces the target's attack speed AND movement speed, it reduces its damage by 40% plus it shred armor and magic resist. It does sound OP, and it is. use it as a 2v2 fighting tool, catching tool, a disengage or whatever, but you'll mostly want to cast it on an important damage dealer (You guessed it, an ADC).

It is another strong summoner spell, it can be used as a replacement to exhaust. It applies true damage over time based on your level, reduces incoming healings on the target by 40% and it keeos sight on the ennemy even if he tries to hide in the fog of war. However, it won't detect stealthed ennemies. I suggest you run ignite against a sustain lane (Soraka16.png, Sona37.png, Nami267.png etc;).

4.pngFlash

I don't need to explain myself alot, i think. It is probably the most impactful summoner spell in the game, along with Exhaust and TP. Flash has multiple use; escaping a bad fight, dodging a fatal skillshot, repositioning yourself in a fight, going for the plays with risky engages, etc. However, don't use it for nothing; Your flash is worth alot since it is so powerful and it has a 5 minutes cooldown.

Masteries.

So i suggest the 12/18/0 page for the following reasons:

  Cunning:

- Wanderer will allow you to move quickly around the map/roam. Basic support stuff.


- You won't need secret stash since the refillable potion is stronger as support. Get assassin, you

  never know.

- Your mana isn't a problem. Get merciless, it is useful as a DPS support.

- Bandit is the important mastery as support; It rewards you for harrassing and it give you gold

  when nearby minions die. Perfect for someone who doesn't farm.

- Precision is insanely powerful. 3 + 0.3 Magic/Armor pen should help your plants. If you insist,

  intelligence isn't bad either.

- Thunderlord's Decree is just what makes Zyra a strong mage; She has constant harrass in lane

  because her plants procs the TDL and it gives her an even greater burst at level 6.

 Ferocity:

- Sorcery is the right choice. You don't need attack speed, so the +8% spell damage should satisfy

  your needs.

- Expose weakness should help your adc apply more damage, especially on the early game.

- Natural Talent Or Vampirism, you choose. Both aren't very impactful on Zyra.

- Then Oppressor, because even if you do sometimes get kills on Zyra, most of the times it is not

  gonna be enough to pick Bounty hunter. Oppressor is better early and synergize with Zyra's CC.


Alternatives:

Deathfire touch is the only alternative on Zyra, but even then it isn't as great as thunderlord. Otherwise, you could go for the Resolve tree instead of the Ferocity tree, it works well since Zyra is quite squishy.

zyrapassive.png Passive: Garden of Thorns

Once in a while, a seed or two will spawn in Zyra's area. The cooldown of this passive decreases depending on your level. Not much to say about this ability, it is great for creating plants, too bad the seeds are sometimes not un very good spots. But is sure is useful when you are preparing a teamfight; It allows you to poke alot and then create lots of Empowered Plants when you engage with your ult.


zyraQ.png Q: Deadly Spines.

An incredibly effective poke tool. When it creates a plant (by connecting with a seed), it does additionnal damage and creates a long-range plant. It is the most useful type of plant, this ability has a low CD and it does alot of damage. You know what to do: Max Q!


zyraW.png W: Rampant Growth.

This ability is so underrated by those who aren't playing Zyra. It is one of the strongest part of her kit. It allows you to plant a seed WHEREVER you want. Also, it wards a small area and those who step on these seeds are going to be under your sight for a couple seconds. It means you can use it as a ward when you are out of sightstone charges/totems, or you can use it to fight and zone people by creating plants. Unfortunately, maxing this spell won't do much since it only increases the health of your plants. Most of the time, they're gonna die anyway because of their time limit.

zyraE.png E: Grasping roots.

This ability is for sure powerful, but very Overrated by those who aren't playing Zyra. It is a snare that lasts only 0.75 seconds and has a high cooldown. Upon connecting with a seed, melee slowing plants are going to appear. Sure, if you max it, it is going to last about 1.5 seconds, wich is slightly better, but you wot be able to spam Q because you didn't max it, you'll have no damage and you will rely on a high CD skillshot. Also, once you get a Rylai, the E plants aren't that useful, since your Q plants can proc the rylai too. Basically, the e plants only have less range. But it is still important to max this spell 2nd because maxing W is useless and E is still a strong engage/disengage spell.

zyraR.png R: Stranglethorns.

I just love this spell. It is a huge knockup that deals a sh*t ton of damage, and it buffs your plants so they can last longer and deal 150% damage. It IS very strong. It can have multiple uses; engage, disengage, teamfight and zoning. Nothing is more satisfying that creating 6 plants and then buffing them and winning the fight by your own.

COMBO!!!!! [Important]

For a Quick engage/disengage, quickly cast W>E>W(>Q>R). This will create slowing plants, snare the target, knock him up, buff your plants and damage him alot.

For Zoning, use W>Q>W.

For a Teamfight combo, use W>Q>W>E>R.

Please take note that all this is theorical and that you might have the occasion of spawning more plants before ulting. These are just the impotant combos to remember.

    This is the best start IMO. unlimited potions for 150g is op.

Core Items

    These are good items for a first back, and you all need them eventually.
    Veeeeery important items!!! Get oracle lens as soon as you buy sightstone.
    I usually run ionian, but sorcerer is great if i want to go full magic pen and mobility is good is the last viable option. It allows good roaming etc;

Situational Items

    If you have problems a fed mage of you are too squishy early on, locket is your item.
    If you are playing against a lockdown team like Ashe, Veigar, Sejuani, Brand etc;
    Very good 5th or 6th item, gives tanky stats to help the facct that there's alot of HP in your build and you won't die alot.
    Awesome item, even tho it is better on mid lane zyra, it provides additionnal burst, a small dash, more HP and the hextech revolver is fun to build in lane (it makes your AAs OP).
    One of my favorite items. It synergize with zyra's magic pen. itemization.
    If you are REALLY in trouble with a mage. But still pick locket over banshee. You can have both, actually.
    If you have problems vs AD assassins

Builds.


My main build (recommended):

Eye of the watchers > Ionian Boots > Rylai > Liandry > Void Staff > GA.


My  HP DPS build (For experimented Zyra players):
Eye of the Watcher > Sorcerer's > Rylai > Liandry > Protobelt > Void staff


Defensive build:

Eye of the watcher > Locket > Rylai > Liandry > Warmog's > GA.


You will have to modify certain aspects of these builds depending on the game. Per example, you could replace any item of these builds (except core items) by another item listed in the situationnal section.

Hard

Ahri counters immobile mages. She is going to be a pain to cc with all her mobility, and she can modify your positionning with her charm. She sure is a frustrating champ to play against, and you shouldnt even try to fight her with your E. Your W>Q>W is way more effective against her. Of course, if she roams down to the bot lane, disengaging with your E/R is always a good idea.

Akali

Hard

Unplayable. This champ is the best way to annoy a Zyra player. The only spell you'll be able to cast on her is your R. Otherwise, you got to way 'til she hides in her W to land your other spells. Just don't pick Zyra if there is an Akali on the ennemy pick if possible, otherwise Rush Locket and consider Banshee's veil after your Rylai.

Alistar

Easy

Another Melee support? Easy matchup. Poke him, poke him, tilt him, and when he tries to engage on you, all-in his adc. He doesn't stand a single chance.

Ashe

Hard

Ashe's R can lock Zyra down from anywhere in the map, wich means your positionning becomes useless whenever her ult is up. it is just a big nightmare.

Bard

Medium

He really isn't such a big deal but he tilts me. Alot.
His level 1 damage is already incredible, he can roam without being punished, he has alot of cc and alot of peeling. Just a frustrating champ to play against, but you are 1000x better at trading and for that reason the matchup is reasonnable.

Blitzcrank

Medium

Don't get hooked to win the lane, but if he lands a good hook, Zyra won't be able to do sh*t. The best things you can do are the followings:

- Always hide behind your minions or out of his range

- Poke him with Q, Plants and autoattacks but if you do so hide behind your minions again

- If you get hooked pre-6, try to all-in and exhaust his ADC. It should be enough to reduce his damage considerably and damage him enough to back-off.

- It is tricky, but sometimes you'll be able to block a hook by spawning a plant in front of you. It can save your life sometimes.

Brand

Easy

Brand is indeed broken and usually does well against all kinds of supports, but not Zyra. Zyra just has more range, a similar damage, more zoning and alot of magic pen. You'll deal 100% damage vs Brand, wich is a very squishy champ. Easy matchup as long as you don't get stunned.

Braum

Easy

Your zoning is too great vs melee supports. He won't be agressive for the whole game, and you can ignore his shield easily. If he tries to protect his adc, you should still able to land all of your spells on his adc, except your snare. But the snare is going to snare him, still, so it ain't bad. plus your kill potential and level 6 is way stronger. Easy matchup.

Caitlyn

Medium

Range vs Range matchup. Really depends on skill only.

VS

Draven

Medium

That bitch hurts. Alot. In fact, his autoattack damage is 100% broken. BUT.
After getting your ass kicked in the pre-6 phase, except if you played very carefully (in this case GJ), then your level 6 lockdown will be appropriate. Draven is an immobile adc who requires a great positionning; If you snare him, ult him etc, your adc will be able to do the rest of the job and draven won't have the occasion of autoattacking, depending on his support.

Ezreal

Medium

Annoying kiting adc. Try to bait his E and as soon as you can, engage. He'll have to either burn flash or die. Calling your jungler is a very good idea vs. Ezreal, the unkillable lil' bitch.

Gragas

Hard

F*ck that champion, he is broken asf.

Graves

Easy

lol who the f*ck plays Graves adc anymore? He has low range and he is slow, you should be able to kick his ass veeeery easily and trade him without taking damage. Easy matchup.

Janna

Easy

Well this matchup is annoying but easy. Their lane won't be agressive at all and you'll be able to poke as much as you want, but alot of your damage will get blocked by the shield. Try to go agro to bait a shield, an then target the non-shielded ennemy. Janna is going to panick 100% of the time when this is correctly executed. Otherwise, you won't get alot of kills and your game is going to be based around roaming or mid/late game.

Jhin

Hard

Very strong adc with even more range than you and alot of CC. When he is paired with a damage/aggressive support, Zyra is f*cked. Be veeery passive and don't push at all.

Jinx

Medium

Well, another lane based only around skill.

Kalista

Easy

Her jumps sure are annoying, so try to play exclusively on your W>Q>W 'til you can engage, dive or deny all her farms under turret. Quite easy, she's a weak adc atm.

Karma

Medium

Be careful, she is a very polyvalent support. She has shields, snares and damage. Your advantage is going to be your zoning, your higher damage and your bigger range. Her advantages: Flexibility, Shields and buffs. do whatever you need to do to not get snared and you shouldnt die so easily.

Katarina

Hard

Assassins are good vs. Zyra in general.

Kog'Maw

Easy

A very easy lane, you'll have more range than him and more damage. He's an easy target 'til he gets about 3 or 4 items, so farm him as much as you can, he's immobile.

LeBlanc

Hard

Broken lil' sh*t. Tell me, why would they nerf Kassadin's range on his ult while Leblanc's W does the same thing, with more damage, more range, lower cooldown when used with mimic and a lower mana cost? Anyway, Leblanc is a broken assassin, good against Zyra.

Leona

Easy

What a useless support. Here's how to counter Leona:

- Every leona player has the same mentality: Level 2 cheese. Just stay back at level 2, you'll see she is going to try to E you. At level 3, she becomes completly useless against you. If she successfully E you, just snare her adc so he cant follow up. At level 6, she'll be a little more of a threat, but she falls off right after. In fights, she is ridiculously useless;
She E's, she Q's, she ults and then she's just a bag of HP running around, and you can ignore her for the rest of the fight. She doesnt have any damage or utility whatsoever: Only high CD cc abilities.
Easy matchup, like for every melee supports.

Medium

Very quick and mobile adc. However, he is only good in the early game. This matchup will depend on your adc and his support.

Lulu

Medium

Skill Matchup. Not much to say.

Lux

Medium

She is going to be horribly annoying pre-6, but then she falls off if you didn't die early and you should eventually win.

Miss Fortune

Easy

Very immobile adc, you'll be able to cancel her ult with yours at 6. No matter what happens, you'll always win against her at 6. Just be careful; before 6, her Qs can be painful if she execute a minion with it.

Morgana

Hard

Gay matchup. She can basically block your whole combo with one button: E. Just stay safe until laning phase is over.

Nami

Easy

Zyra is just a little superior to nami on every points except healing. You'll beat her as long as she doesnt land a very good Q on you.

Sivir

Easy

I really don't know what to think about this matchup. It all depends on her support. She's so vulnerable, bait her shield with your Q then all-in her. She might be able to block your Q damage, but the plant is still going to spawn. Then you can snare, Ult etc; For free. It is an easy matchup who can be more or less difficult depending on her support.
PS: She is going to push. Alot.

Sona

Easy

You have more damage, more cc, more range and more zoning than sona. She's easy to beat in lane. The only times you'll die in this matchup are when you are gonna get ganked. Otherwise, counter the Sona mentality.
When she tries to Q you or your adc, you'll have a window of time to just destroy her with your spells. Running Ignite is recommended in this matchup to go even more agressive and deny her heals.

Soraka

Easy

You might be able to poke her enough to damage her a little if you dodge her Qs, but the real matchup is about fighting. You HAVE to bring ignite in this matchup. She becomes useless when you ignite her or her adc. Having an adc with executionner's calling (800g) secures victory, and having a lockdown adc like Ashe or Kalista is even better.

Tahm Kench

Easy

Lol this matchup is so easy. Never is he going to be close enough to eat you.
A melee support is an easy matchup for Zyra.

Taric

Easy

I don't know how to explain it, but Zyra will always win lane against Taric. Taric just can't trade back because he has no damage and he is melee, he doesn't have enough sustain to heal completly from your damage and his stun's range is too low, so he can't reach you. The only time he could possibly kill you is when he flash+E and his jungler ganks at the same time.

Easy

What a sh*tty champ lol. Follow this pattern to win.

Dodge Q >Win
Don't dodge Q > all-in his adc > Win

Also you can easily block his hooks with your plants. Oh and, you'll always outdamage him of course.

Trundle

Easy

Melee support = Easy matchup.

Urgot

Easy

He is a bully because of his E+QQQQ combo, but if you successfully dodge all of his Es, The matchup should be pretty easy. Be careful tho, he sometimes is a surprise.

Medium

Annoying. If he ults, don't try running away too quickly, you might have chances to turn.

Vayne

Easy

Vayne is very bad in lane and she is countered by any poke champ. Zyra fulfills this role easily.

Vel'Koz

Medium

Really depends on who successfully cc's who. If Vel koz lands a passive on you, you are f*cked unless you have flash, and if you land a combo, he is f*cked. He is squishier than you but he has higher range and similar damage, so i guess this matchup is pretty even.

This champ is the definition of "Annoying asf". However, despite the fact his ult is annoying, he is easily beatable in lane. Your trades are better but please, DONT GET STUNNED!!!

My League Of Legends Experience

General tips and tricks Back to Top

Plants are more useful than you might think.

Plants, are not only a source of damage! They can:

- Slow when you buy Rylai's;
- Block skillshots;
- Ward an area;
- Tank camps/Dragons for your team;
- Tank a turret if you are running our of minion and you need to push a turret;
- Zone ennemies so you can apply pressure properly;
- Fight And Poke;

Do not ever throw away an advantage!

People will sometimes be mean because you are a DPS support, and not an utility support, but i you get an early advantage (one, two kills on first back) DO NOT BUY UTILITY! You have the opportunity to snowball and win your lane easily by building Damage. Just build damage early in that case (Haunting guise, Needlessly large rod) and then you can buy utility after you won lane.
Also, please take note to always rush utility (sightstone/locket/Boots/Frostfang) when:

- You are behind;
- You are getting camped;
- You are poor;
- You are losing lane;

Be careful and practice your positionning

... As well as your map awareness. Indeed, being an immobile mage requires alot of skills, because assassins and tanks are always going to be trying to reach you and kill you. To avoid that, please:

- Make sure you always have wards when you are pushing
- Keep an eye on your map every few seconds
- Always stay in the backline. You are not a tank. Unless you have gone full tank + Rylai.
- Guardian Angel is a good counter to assassins.
- Stick with your carry in the backline so you can peel him correctly.
