Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png Flash is obviously a must have, you take flash in every games, it makes you able to initiate a fight, dodge skills or even avoid ganks. 

3.png In season 7, exhaust is the most broken summoner spell in the game, you can make anyone useless for 2.5seconds with this spell. If you exhaust someone, you reduce their movement speed and their attack speed by 30% and their armor and magic resistance by 10, and their damage dealt by 40% during those 2.5sec. You can win trades very easily with this summoner spell.

14.png In my opinion you can take ignite if :
- You are very confident in your botlane matchup and you think ennemy laners won't assassinate your ADC so exhaust isnt needed.
- Ennemy botlane has a 16.png and you have an ADC that is able to snowball a lot in midgame if he wins the laning phase.
- Ennemy team has healing champs such as 16.png8.png50.png and noone in your team will build 3165.png

Since you want to play zyra support, the Savagery mastery is useless and Wanderer can give you extra movement speed for roaming or coming back to lane.

Zyra support is extremely squishy, if you take a bad trade you will be happy to have the Biscuit mastery for extra health and mana regeneration. Assassin is bad on Zyra support because you will always want to fight close to your allies.Runic affinity is pointless since you won't be the one in your team that will get the buffs. It can add extra time on nashor though but Biscuits is better.

This choice of mastery is debatable but in my opinion with your 23 Magic penetration at level 1 rune and mastery setup I don't think Zyra needs more damage to low hp target with Merciless. I strongly recommend Meditation for extra poke in lane, you will be able to land more combos which means that the ennemy botlane will be even more pressured.

Every pros take this Greenfather gift mastery because it add bonus damage. You can use those damage throughout the whole game from level 1 (it even procs on auto attacks) to late game teamfights where 3% of current HP is not negligeable at all.
The bandit mastery gives you more gold but I think it's not that usefull because you will already get a lot of golds with 3098.png and kill/assists you will get during the early/mid game
Dangerous game is not so good in my opinion because you are not supposed to be the player that needs to survive last on zyra and you shouldnt be afraid to flash in and trade your life for the life of an ennemy fed carry so Dangerous game won't be really usefull since you tend to die a lot on this champ, some players got to +Master only on Zyra averaging 10 deaths/game

Precision provides magic penetration. Zyra likes magic penetration.
INTelligence's cooldown reduction is not very usefull on zyra compared to the magic penetration so the mastery choice is easily done

You can wonder why Deathfire touch is not seen on Zyra since she has spells that are supposed to deal damage to multiple persons at the same time. The answer is that thunderlord is super super good in lane and synergizes well with Zyra's kit. Zyra's combos is lane will always proc Thunderlord granting even more burst to a champion that is often in the top damage dealt of the game.

FEROCITY TREE

First of all you can see that everyone goes for 12 points in the ferocity tree (more damage) instead of the resolve tree (more survability and summoners spell CD).

This choice is obvious since zyra is an ap mage played support, Sorcery and its 2% increased ability damage is 10 times better than the bonus attack speed.

In my opinion the choice between Fresh blood or Expose weakness is up to you, Fresh Blood gives you a more solid auto atack poke in lane but expose weakness is better in teamfight. Never take Feast since you are not supposed to kill creeps on Zyra support.

Natural talent is better than Vampirism because you don't need the lifesteal/spellvamp and the extra ad/ap natural talent offers is really good.

As I said before Zyra is supposed to deal a lot of damage fast in teamfights, most of the time you can't charge the Battle Trance mastery. Double Edged Sword offers you directly +5% damage and you don't really care about taking +2.5% damage since if you die in a teamfight those +2.5% damage will never be the reason of your death.

Zyra's skill order pre-6 is Q>W>E>E>E>R
Zyra's max order is R>E>W>Q
On zyra, you want to max E for the extra root during that can allow you and your adc is laning phase to attack the ennemy longer while he will be rooted and vulnerable. Maxing Q for a lower cooldown is not so good because if you spam Q too much you will find yourself out of mana very quickly. 
You want to max W second and not Q because you will get a quicker recharge time if you max W and it's really nice. You can take more fights and you don't have to wait 20sec/plant but instead only 12sec/plant at max rank.


Zyra's passive spawns seeds lasting for 45 seconds, if your jungler starts on botside you can stay around his buff and then press Q when it has spawned for a super good leash. If your jungler starts topside and the botside jungle is well covered you should just go to your lane and your passive will start spawning seeds, this will lead to a very advantageous level 1 fight.

Zyra's Q is the main spell for activating your seeds. Plants spawned with your Q will do the same damage as plants spawned with your E but will have a much longer range but won't slow.
Note that the hitbox of your damage is different than the hitbox for plants to proc.
You should also use this spell to push your lane and if seeds are in the radius you can always look for some damage on the ennemies.

Zyra's W spawns seeds, you can use if with Q, E or for vision on a bush.
A very known trick on zyra is to use your Q/E and then spawn the seed with W.
Zyra's plants spawned with Q : Long Range (750) but no slow
Zyra's plants spawned with E : Short Range (400) and slow

Zyra's E will root ennemies in a line, try to hit maximum ennemies for maximum utility. Using the EW combo can proc thunderlord and after the ennemy is rooted, he will be slowed by the plant so use that to chase/escape ganks.

Zyra's ultimate deals a LOT of damage in a circle and after 2 seconds, all ennemies caught in that circle will be knocked up for 1 second.
Plants will have their duration refreshed inside the aera of effect, it's an old trick for doing early baron with plants permanently attacking the baron nashor.
Note: Your ultimate doesn't proc plants.

    Rushing Liandry is the best
    Taking that after Liandry is very cost efficient. The slow is super good on zyra.
    After rilay liandry if ennemy team stack lots of mr
    Extra movement speed is cool. You can proc thunderlord easier with luden's echo
    If you get to this stage you should consider yourself as strong as any ap damage dealer in your game

Situational Items

    Take that 4th item if your midlane hasnt built it against double ap
    This is good for early/mid game but sells this for a control ward slot
    Buy one at EACH. BACK. It's not about getting vision. It's about denying vision. Carry 2 if ennemy team plays the vision war.
    Not so bad if you need the Grevious Wound on a big healer that causes a lot of trouble

You are very squishy so if he hooks you, you are either dead instantly or you get lucky and have time to flash out. If you are already midlife you should flash out of the hook if you know its gonna hit. However, since you are a ranged champion with heavy poke and he depends only on his hook, you have the poke advantage and the ennemy adc should always be mid/low life. Miss Fortune

Miss Fortune support is the biggest counter to Zyra. She can destroy your plants super easily, you should try when her E is on cooldown so she can trade back that efficiently.

She has a heal and you don't, however you burst a lot more than her.  Don't do extended fights where she can use namiw.png and heal her adc/her damage you twice. Poking with QWW and procing with thunderlord then forcing namiw.png is enough. Always look to dodge namiq.png, if you don't have time to dodge it and the jungler is coming, just flash it.

Even if Sona is not that played/meta in season 7 I think she can do extremely well into Zyra especially in lane. If sona keeps doing short trades she will win because she has a heal that can make her sustain very well throughout the laning phase. You should trade very aggressively if you have an adc that can burst like 202.png.

Easy

Soraka is an easy lane for Zyra in my opinion even if she can heal a lot you will always outtrade if you focus her and not the adc. As you might know her only source of direct healing is her Q if she hits or potions so try to always dodge her Q so you don't offer her some free sustain.

Medium

Even in this patch 7.4, Varus is in the top 2 adc with Jhin. He deals a lot of damage especially with his varusq.png your number 1 priority will be trading efficiently and dodge his Q when he's trying to push the lane. Put him under pressure so he's forced to focus on CSing and not poking you with varusq.png. His ultimate varusr.png is really good against you so I strongly recommend flashing before it hits you and not after the root duration is over if he uses that to follow up a gank or simply if you got caught low life.

Easy

Vayne is very easy to handle as Zyra. Her short range makes you able to poke without getting hard punished and exhaust is beyond broken in trades against a vayne. If you see a trade coming try to root her after her Q so that she can't dodge it. Don't put yourself between her and a wall in range of a stun, you won't be able to fight back and you can get blown up very easily.

Ziggs APC bot is not so meta right now but it's still played. It would say it's a fairly skilled matchup, dodge all his spells and you win, simple as that.

Early game Back to Top

In the early game as Zyra you want to always keep your river warded so that you wont die to gank. While zyra is often seen as a top damage dealer in the support role she is also very abuseable because of her small hp pool and she can see her death score get really high really really fast.

You want to make maximum profit of 3303.png and later 3098.png by harassing the ennemy duo every time. You are zyra support, the ennemy adc should be punished for every bad move he makes. Harassing with Q + double W + seed from passive is extremely powerful because of the fast thunderlord proc. You can even damage both the AD and the support at the same time with this combo. Don't be afraid to take long trades in a Zyra lane because your damage is not only burst but also from the whole duration your plants are alive. If you kill your lane and your jungler wants to drake, you should QW or QWW the drake, zyra deals good damage to objectives for a support, try to ward over the drake pit and look for a root if the ennemy jungle tries to steal, same applies for nashor. Once you have sightstone, switch the yellow trinket to red trinket to deny vision to the ennemy team, don't forget to upgrade it at level 9.
Kind of obvious but in early trades, always exhaust the ennemy adc in the middle of the fight, don't use this summoner spell to chase (except if you are very ahead and they have no threat to your ADC). Exhaust is too broken of a spell to be used only to chase.

Mid Game / Late Game Back to Top

In the mid game keep your exhaust to peel your ADC, especially in this lethality meta where they get blown up so easily by zed talon quinn jayce and broken ap mages.

If you walk around the map with sweeper and you see a squishy out of position you can easily burst him 100-0 with QWWER or QWWRE even if you only have those 3136.png2301.png3020.png items.
If you are kind of behind in your build and your ADC is doing more than fine you should just focus on peeling for him with EWWQR if 2 persons run after him for example.
You can do nashor super fast with QWW (in some case you can even R the nashor to refresh the duration of plants + damage if you want to do it faster)
Always keep in mind who has 30/42mr (you deal true damge) and can be easily blown up.
Keep in mind who are the threats for your adc and do what you have to do to help him.

Patch notes 7.3

Q mana cost goes from 60 to 70, it hits a bit more poke so thats why I strongly recommend the meditation mastery even more.

Plant stuff : Now, if your ability doesn't hit, plants will auto the closest enemy unit instead of nearby enemy champion. It means that now you have to damage champs with QW/QWW or EW/EWW so they can hit the ennemy in priority.
