Summoner Spells Back to Top

While playing Quinn mid, you want to go standard offensive or defensive summoners. If you're up against someone squishy like a 99_icon_64.png or an 34_icon_64.png then you want to go offensive, but if you're up against large burst damage champions such as 84_icon_64.png or 131_icon_64.png then you will want to go barrier. Another reason to go barrier is because your ultimate is potentially suicidal in late game teamfights.

Runes Back to Top

  • 9x
+0.95 attack damage Greater Mark of Attack Damage
  • 9x
+1.34 magic resist Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
  • 9x
+1 armor Greater Seal of Armor
  • 3x
+2.25 attack damage Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage

Pretty standard rune page, you want to emphasize a lot of your runes in flat attack damage to scale your abilities off of and take down your squishy lane opponent. Your seals and glyphs will be used defensively as you will be diving into the depths of most of the team fights.

Abilities are fairly simple. Your Q does the most damage, so max it first. It is your first ability so you can help jungler with their camps as blind effects the minions as well. You can also harass your lane opponent with this ability. Your second ability to max is your Vault (E), this is because it gets better exponentially, as your W does not. Lastly, you get your W at level 3 for lane vision and attack speed buff when procing your Harrier.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Standard AD build, used for increased last hitting and poke damage.
If against a high threat jungler, also good in certain lane matchups i.e Brand or Cho'Gath
These should be your first few items, they provide good damage, sustain and survivability.

Core Items

These three items you should build in almost every game. They are your core damage. Your life steal item will depend on your opponents.
If you are fed and your opponents are not stacking hp.
If your are a bit behind or your opponents are stacking hp.

Situational Items

If they are ad heavy and you get focused/killed first.
Lots of CC and magic damage? Get this.
If you are not getting focused and are fairly safe, this is a good item to add some extra damage as well as lots of health.
Also a possibility if they are AP heavy and you are getting bursted down fast.
Consider this item when snowballing in lane, Blinding assault now has a 0.5ap ratio making sheens ability power not completely useless. The vault-harrier proc in combination with this item will result in major damage.

Your itemization is fairly similar to that of a standard ADC. The biggest difference is you want to focus slightly more on the tanky/bruiser side because of your melee ultimate.

VS

Ahri

Medium

Try to dodge her poke and win trades by landing your combo correctly. Try not to get in range of her charm, if she lands this it will make it very hard for you to win a trade off.

VS

Akali

Medium

Abuse her early game weakness by landing as many auto attacks as possible.

VS

Anivia

Easy

Very squishy champion, dodge her Q and you can win trade offs fairly easily. Land as many auto attacks as possible and proc harrier for bonus damage. Her egg is very squishy, your auto attacks will make it very easy for you to get it down.

VS

Brand

Easy

Poke the living hell out of him, wait till he nukes a minion with W before going in to save yourself some hp. Getting boos in this matchup is a good idea, the extra mobility will allow you to dodge his pillar/stun.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium

She can punish you fairly hard if you stay in her spell range too long, try to poke her out with spells and burst her down when opportunity comes. Your vault makes it extremely hard for her to land consecutive poisons, use this to your advantage.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

Cho'Gath has very good sustain, but if you play his matchup correctly you can force him to use his abilities as wave clear to cs. Try to abuse his melee range by poking him, he is very manadependent. Try your best to dodge his ruptures.

VS

Diana

Medium

Same story as Akali, punish her while shes immobile.

VS

Evelynn

Easy

With recent Evelynn nerfs, this matchup is very easy for you. With your vault, she has no way of getting close to you. Use this to your advantage and abuse her lack of range.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Medium

Fiddlesticks is an annoying champion regardless and there is almost nothing you can really do about it. You're better of avoiding tradeoffs with Fiddle, as he will just heal back up. Only engage on him when either a) Your jungle is ganking or b) You feel you have enough burst damage to take him down. You do not have any hard cc to counter his drain, so keep that in mind. Make sure you use your ignite early in the fight to counter his heal.

VS

Galio

Easy

Galio is an AP counter, making this matchup very easy for you. He does have a decent amount of damage and a lot of CC so dont get too cocky. Although your playstyle isideallyannoying and aggressive.

VS

Heimerdinger

Medium

This matchup is surprisingly tricky for Quinn, even though he is extremely squishy his turrets and blind make it hard for you to kill him or get out alive. Think twice when engaging with your ult, but take advantage of opportunities to burst him down.

VS

Kennen

Easy

Your vault allows you to dodge his E pretty easily, stay behind minions and poke him out to win your lane.

VS

Kha'Zix

Easy

Quinn is a great counter to Kha, you can punish him for getting to close and csing, if he chooses to jump in you can just blind him.

VS

LeBlanc

Easy

Building a3155_32.pngagainst LeBlanc can pretty much counter her by itself. She does have a lot of burst damage but not very much sustain damage.

VS

Lux

Easy

One of your easiest matchups, land as many auto attacks as you can and use your abilities to poke her out. Try your best to dodge her harass, and take advantage of her cooldowns.

VS

Malzahar

Medium

Malzahar is a solid AP mid, besides his lack of mobility he can put up a decent fight at almost any level. You will still win tradeoffs during the early levels but think twice before getting too close post level 6.

VS

Master Yi

Medium

Abuse his short range, although in reality there isnt much you can do against him because of his heal and waveclear.

VS

Mordekaiser

Medium

This lane could extremely snowball in either lanes favor. If you manage to get an early game advantage over Morde, it should be a walk in the park because you can kite him, poke him and eat through his shield. If morde gets the early game advantage though, you will have a lot of trouble getting through his sheild, surviving his burst and making use of your ultimate. Try and ask jungler for an early gank, mordekaiser has no escape ability.

Most people don't remember that mordekaiser is still a melee champion, he cant get ALL his cs with his abilities and until he has revolver, his abilities cost HP. Use this to your advantage, stay at a safe distance where you can walk in and land a few auto attacks. This will cause him to play less aggressive and put the lane in YOUR control.

VS

Morgana

Medium

Morgana is a very safe laner because of her spell shield. You will be unable to slow or cc her most of the time so try your best to win small engagements.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

Very tedious matchup, stay behind minions and avoid giving her opportunity to spear you. The majority of the time she can just heal past your poke, but her mana is not infinite. You will still win a tradeoff assuming you can avoid getting hit by spears.

VS

Orianna

Medium

Pure skill lane matchup, Orianna can shield through a lot of your burst damage and has the potential to trade off fairly well. This is all determined on the skill level of you opponent because Orianna is a very skill oriented champion. If your opponent misplays, this lane can be pretty easy.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

Your lane matchup against Pantheon is slightly in your favor. You are able to outrange him and blind through his AD and autoattacks. Only downside to this is that Pantheons stun/combo is almost instantaneous, making it very difficult for you to blind him or trade off. Abuse his melee range to the best of your ability and try to stay out of melee rage.

VS

Ryze

Hard

Probably one of your more tedious matchups with Quinn. There is no counter here, its just he trades off with you fairly well and denies you the ability to abuse your AD mid meta.

VS

Swain

Hard

Swain is a very tanky AP champion, he has the ability to give a lot of champions a run for their money. Quinn excels at taking down squishy champions or outlaning melee champions. Swain is the exact opposite of this. Try to stay out of his stun, getting caught in this usually means you will fall victim to his combo.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

Great counter to twisted fate, you can burst him down extremely fast and blind through his auto attacks (which is an important part of tf's toolkit) Try to engage in between the casts of his "Pick a Card"

VS

Veigar

Easy

Veigar is a counter to AP champions, make this matchup fairly easy for you. Veigar is also very squishy so take advantage of this. Keep in mind this does not mean he cant burst you down as well. Try to focus your attacks and engagements inbetween his farm. Veigar's farm with his Q is crucial to his late game, abuse this and make it difficult for him to decide whether he should attack you, or kill a minion.

VS

Viktor

Medium

Viktors shield makes it very hard to trade off against him, people often mistake/under appreciate Viktor for who he is. He has immense burst damage and sustain damage, so don't take him lightly. His laser is usually easy to dodge, succeed in dodging his laser and you will be able to win a tradeoff.

VS

Vladimir

Hard

Vladmir, like swain and ryze are tanky AP casters. Quinn does not like these. Vladimir will be able to sustain through most of your poke damage and trade off with you decently. Try to play more passively versus Vladimir and take advantages of his pool cd or mistakes he might make.

VS

Xerath

Medium

Xerath is a high armor caster, typically not good when youre an AD champion. People tend not to realize that Xerath has VERY LOW starting armor, take advantage of this and fight him while hes still weak. Xerath also has very low mobility, ask your jungler for some early ganks.

VS

Ziggs

Easy

Ziggs is usually pretty squishy, take advantage of this and poke/harass him. Ziggs has a a fair amount of damage on his Bouncing Bomb so try your best to dodge them. It is also a good idea to avoid engagements when his passive is active as well. (wait for him to use on a minion)

VS

Zyra

Easy

Zyra, when playing AP mid is usually pretty squishy. Take advantage of this like you would in any other matchup. Nothing really special about this one, just be wary when engaging with you ult, she has 2 cc's to stop you in your place.

FAQs and Strategies. Back to Top

Why Quinn Mid?

Quinn is a fairly new champion, meaning people are generally unaware or uninformed of her potential burst damage. She serves the same purpose as most other AD mid champions, she can hard counter the squishy casters. It is ideal to play Quinn mid as a counter pick, but is also viable to first pick because people do not know what lane you are going in. (most assume you are bot lane)

The Combo

Ranged:

Wait until your passive targets the opposing champion. Once the Harrier debuff is on them, move in for the auto attack. Once you land the bonus damage from Harrier your next move is to slow them with your Vault. This will also debuff them with another Harrier, after returning to attack position you need to auto attack them again to proc the passive, then finish off the combo with your Q. (You can use Q first but it is generally easier to land when they are slowed)

Melee:

The Melee combo is fairly similar, the only difference is it is a lot more risky and is usually an "all or nothing" combo.
The timing of this combo is fairly tricky, you need to be able to determine your own power level and if you have the damage to kill them. You start out by going into Bird Form (your ultimate). This will give you a gigantic speed boost, so once you've used it, it is fairly easy to tunnel into your target so don't be afraid to use it from a distance. The best thing to do before you zone in on your opponent is to use your W. This will make sure that you are alone and will prevent any ganks if you decide to overextend. You start out by using your E ability to gain distance and slow your opponent. After you've closed the gap, now its time to use your Q to blind them and of course do damage. Here is where you have a decision to make. You can either a) Keep auto attacking them and pick up the kill that way (usually a good idea if there are other people around) or you can b) Proc the active of your ultimate to finish them off/deal extra burst damage or finish them off in ranged form. Keep in mind that you have a huge attack speed increase while in Bird Form, so dueling in melee form is generally better for you.

Strategies in the Middle Lane

The biggest strategy that you NEED to abuse is Quinns poke potential. Focus on landing your last hits and denying your opponents farm by blinding them. This may seem like a small thing but you are doing two things here. 1. You are denying them small amounts of farm and 2. You are getting in some good poke damage to set up for your finishing combo. When setting up kills in mid, wait for your Harrier to target them, then use that to your advantage to set up your ranged combo. (See heading above) This is generally a good idea around levels 2-4, you will win trades with almost any mid laner if you execute this correctly. Be sure to use ignite when finishing people off. At levels 3+, make sure to use your W whenever possible or whenever you are a bit over extended. This is NOT a replacement for wards but it is good to use when you have those gut feelings that you are getting ganked.

Late Game and Team Fights

Team Fights:

The main reason Quinn goes mid instead of ADC is because of her melee form on her ultimate. This can be very very risky during team fights so you need to be cautious when using it. Turning into Valor is pretty much a death sentence when running into 5 people but if done right you can deal a shit ton of damage before anyone is able to kill you. (Allowing the other ADC to still be doing their job) During team fights, it is your job to locate the primary target (Usually their ADC or their APC) and take them down as fast as you can. When diving into a team, make sure to use the active of your ultimate before you die.

Late Game:

There are two things valor is exceptional at doing late game. Dueling and Back-dooring. If at any time in the game you see someone (better if its their ADC or APC) by themselves or farming in a side lane, its almost as if its a free kill. With the gigantic speed boost on your ultimate and your immense vision from your W, you are able to speed in there and combo them down almost instantaneously. So it is a great idea to find opportunities to duel whenever possible. The second thing valor is good at is back-dooring. It is very similar to how Yi does it, with Quinns ultimate she is able to have huge attack speed as well as huge movement speed when running away. And since she is a great dueling, if the opposing team only sends on person to stop you, chances are you can just kill them. So when back-dooring, you are potentially able to create an advantage for your team when they decide to team fight.

Recent Buffs Back to Top

Some recent buffs hit Quinn in the April 30th Freljord patch. These buffs include more movement speed % increase to add to the attack speed bonus when procing harrier and general speed/utility increases in her ultimate. These buffs open much more opportunity to play Quinn not only mid lane, but any lane in general. But how can these buffs help Quinn in the middle lane?

Vault:

So lets be realistic here, the buffs help her a lot but they dont necessarily make her damage output any greater than before, so don't get too hyped up. But one thing to be wary of is the fact that her vault now BRIEFLY stuns targets, what does this mean you ask? This means that Quinn can now interrupt channeling abilities and auto attacks ect.. with her vault. This is a great mechanic to appreciate in the middle lane, it can be the difference between tradeoffs.

Heightened Senses:

The second great part about this buff is her overall mobility increases, reasons why this are great is for juking. Think about it, most mid laners require the use of skillshots, with vault and this new movement speed buff, it will make it much easier for Quinn to kite, juke and harass her lane opponent.

Blinding Assault:

Although this isnt a big change, blinding assault now has a 0.5 ap ratio, what does this mean for quinn? This essentially means that a tri-force might actually be viable on her. The bonus ability power will actually have effect on her Q, and the tri-force passive will work in amazing synergy with her vault-harrier proc. Consider this item when snowballing in lane.
