Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png
The play maker. This Summoner Spell allows you so much mobility it is essential. Care the dreaded "FAIL FLASH" though. It still always happens to the best of us. =]

14.png
Ignite is just what you need when you wanna secure that kill. It deals True Damage depending on your level and gives 5ap and 5ad from Masteries once you use it and its on cool down. It also reduces the enemies healing so those pots wont save him. =]

12.png
I rarely take Teleport but sometimes it is essential when you're versus a team comp with many global's. You can keep up with the ganks and save people with 'E: Command: Protect.'

Runes Back to Top

  • 9x

AP%20Quint.pngQuints:

Flat AP: Pretty basic on any mage. Increases damage on all your abilities, how much your shield protects, AND your auto attack damage.

Magic%20Pen%20RedReds:

Magic Pen: Again you want the Damages! Magic penetration means you will ignore an enemy units Magic Resistance thus making you deal more damage.

Armor%20Seal.pngYellows:

Armor: Good seal all around for any Champion. Reduces damage taken from minions when you're harassing. Trust me, you will be harassing with your ball.

Mana Regen: I do prefer the Armor seals, but the mana regen is also a great choice. It allows for constant poking and farming with your abilities. Later in the game mana wont be an issue and staying alive in lane so you can farm is essential. Farming with autos isn't difficult at all either because of Orianna's Passive.

AP%20Blue.pngBlues:

AP per Level: Again with the damages!! More Damage, bigger shields, harder autos.

vv Boring math stuff vv

AP/lvl gives you 9.18ap at lvl6 when you get your ultimate and can really deal damage. With AP/lvl you exceed the flat AP with 12.24 AP at level 8.

Flat AP blues gives you 12AP from start to finish. Which gives you very strong harass but Orianna isn't the kill pre-lvl6 type. You want to farm and have as much Ability Power as you can when the team fights start.

Offensive Tree:

Love 'Spellsword' which just adds to Orianna's passive auto attacks.

Utility Tree:

This pretty much takes care of any of your mana issues. As you start to get more accustom to Orianna the more comfortable you will get to her mana pool. So don't get discouraged if you feel like you go oom often. Remember to auto attack, they do hit quite hard.

Level of Importance. R-Q-W-E

Passive: Clockwork Windup:

Orianna's basic attacks deal 10 / 18 / 26 / 34 / 42 / 50 (+0.15 per ability power) bonus magic damage. Subsequent attacks against the same target within 4 seconds deal an additional 20% magic damage. This bonus stacks up to 2 times.

So this is why i stress the auto attacks.

---------------------------------------------------------

Q: Command: Attack:

  • Free Face Check
  • Harass lane opponent
  • Zone Opponent
  • Farm Creeps, if 2 minions are dying at the same time, auto attack 1 and Q the other.

I level Q up first because of the reduced cool down and increased damage. It allows you to reposition your ball more frequently with more damage. The best part is the Mana cost which does not increase with Ranks. Q is 50 mana always.

---------------------------------------------------------

W: Command: Dissonance:

  • Great AP scaling
  • Speed Ally, Slow enemy
  • Clear minion waves at rank 2
  • Combo with 'Ultimate' for damage

Level W next for the Damage and increase in ally speed and enemy slow.

---------------------------------------------------------

E: Command: Protect:

  • Shield yourself or an ally.
  • Grants passive armor and magic resist to holder of ball.
  • Increases the tether at which your ball will return to you.
  • Great way to position your ball to land a game changing Ultimate in team fight.

Level E last mostly for the utility. This should be the initiator of ganks and team fights. It also feels amazing when you save an ally who is just about to die from an ignite or something.

---------------------------------------------------------

R: Command: Shockwave:

  • Great AP Scaling
  • 1 of the best initiator for a team fight.
  • Knock back and stun

Of course Rank up your Ultimate whenever available. The damage is too good to pass up.

Situational Items

Welcome to Summoners Rift!

To start 1001_32.png and 2003_32.png2003_32.png2003_32.png is ideal. Movement speed is always good early. Take advantage of the boots to dodge enemy harass and move in and out of combat efficiently. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

On First back:

Try to back with ~1000g for 1056_32.png1056_32.png. Double Dorans gives you mana regen, health, and sustain. You cant go wrong. Don't forget wards! 2044_32.png

Eventually though, you will know when to skip double Dorans and dive straight into your final items.

Rush:

3010_32.png to 3027_32.pngRod of Ages gives you so much survivability + sustain. You want to stay alive in team fights to deal damage but also support your front line and ADC with 'Command: Protect.'

I'd recommend RoA if you're against a high pressure team with lots of assassins. Also, if your team is a bit squishier. This season they're trying to reintroduce more assassin based junglers meaning your team will be minus a tanky bruiser to stay behind.

OR

3028_32.png to3174_32.pngAthene's Unholy Grail gives you mana sustain. I don't prefer it but, i know this is a crowd favorite. Athene's gives Ability Power, Magic Resist, 15% CDR, and a ton of mana regen. This makes it a lot easier to spam skills worry free.

I'd recommend Athene's if you're not afraid of being dived, or you feel your positioning will always be prime. This item helps out your lane phase more than anything. With the MR you should be able to constantly out-damage your lane opponent. But remember, as the AP mid you are usually entitled to the Blue Buff. This gives you all the mana regen and cool-down reduction you need.

Finish 3020_32.png before completing 3174_32.pngor 3027_32.png to amplify damage.

2044_32.png

Aim For:

3089_32.pngDeathcap for the increased Damage. This amplifies everything so the sooner the better. Including AUTO ATTACKS. This is must. Deathcap should always be your 2nd or 3rd major purchase.

3001_32.png Abyssal Scepter gives you Magic Resist and Ability Power. I would get this item before 3089_32.png if you're behind and the enemy team is AP heavy.

3135_32.pngVoid Staff gives you the magic penetration needed to cut through all the Magic Resist any enemy team has acquired. Remember it cuts through a 35% of any Magic Resist.

3157_32.pngZhonya to stay alive!! Don't forget to use it. I usually move it to my #2 slot so its an easy click away. Sometimes things go wrong and this can make a huge difference, not to mention the armor it provides.

(Extremely risky) A trick i have done before to win a fight is flashing into the enemy team and popping my ult and immediately after Zhonya. This works much better in premade 5s, but very impressive in solo Q, if it is successful.

2044_32.png

The late Late game.

3026_32.pngGuardian Angel is always great last item. Robot with two lives? Why not.

3102_32.png If you're having trouble with an enemy team hard initiate like 32_icon_64.png ult or 53_icon_64.png grab.

Wards and Elixirs!!

Don't forget these! When at full build it doesn't hurt to buy all the elixirs you can. 2039_32.png2042_32.png2037_32.png

2044_32.png Buy 1 if not 3 wards every time you back. Congratulation your new habit just gained you 500 elo! 2044_32.png

VS

Ahri

Easy

  • Dodge her abilities early
  • Zone with your ball, keep it between your minions and her.
  • Hard to kill after 6 because of her Ult.
  • Get to 6 first.

VS

Akali

Easy

  • Easy early zone
  • Your abilities are skill shot based so you can get her in her bubble
  • After 6 be ready to 'Command: Protect' yourself when she jumps to you.
  • Out farm her
  • Easy to counter in team fights. 'Command: Protect' whoever she jumps and 'ULT'

VS

Anivia

Medium

  • Hard to harass with his long ranged stun.
  • Dodge stun and beware of getting ganked.
  • If you can get a good zone on her early you win lane.
  • Push, hard for Aniv to farm under tower efficiently.
  • Out Farm her. YOU ARE THE FARM QUEEN.

VS

Annie

Easy

  • Easy to notice when her stun is coming.
  • You out range her.
  • Beware of ganks and you'll be fine.
  • Outfarm her.

VS

Brand

Easy

  • Use minions to avoid his stun
  • Your ranges are pretty similar but his 'W: Pillar of Flame' is mana heavy and not too hard to dodge. Giving you advantage if he misses a couple.
  • Stay away from minions after 6 or his ult will bounce to you multiple times.

VS

Cassiopeia

Easy

  • Cass has a very similar play style as Ori
  • Similar range on harass so just try to dodge her abilities.
  • You do have the advantage after level 6 tho because you can still deal damage to her without actually having to face her.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

  • Cho'gath has a lot of stain so its hard to poke him down to the point where you can kill him.
  • Dodge his skill shots, use you 'W: Command: Dissonance' if you have to.
  • Out Farm him.

VS

Diana

Hard

  • Her shield makes it hard to harass her.
  • You do have an advantage early because you are ranged and she is melee.
  • Just focus on farm after 6. You probably wont get a kill without a God Mode Gank.
  • Diana OP

VS

Evelynn

Easy

  • Evelynn is a very short ranged champ so take advantage of that.
  • She cant win a fight head on so be careful her trying to initiate from behind you when she goes MIA

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

  • Fiddle has to stand still to deal damage with his "E: Drain" which makes it easy to land your harass.
  • Keep him zoned and out auto attack him when he silences you.

VS

Fizz

Medium

  • Hard to land your abilities because of his high mobility
  • Easy to out farm
  • Don't try engaging full on early. He will out damage you.

VS

Galio

Medium

  • If you're able to avoid his Skill Shots you will be fine.
  • Galio tend to push hard so be ready to farm under tower which shouldnt be too difficult after some practice.
  • Difficult to poke down because he builds Magic Resist to gain ability power.

VS

Gragas

Easy

  • Out farm.
  • Easily dodge harass.
  • Use your ult on yourself if he 'E: Body Slams' you.

VS

Kassadin

Medium

  • His high mobility makes it difficult to land Skill Shots
  • Easy to zone pre 6
  • Out Farm, you provide way more in team fights.

VS

Katarina

Medium

  • High mobility.
  • Save your 'R: Command: Shockwave' for when she Ults
  • You can counter her in team fights with a good Ult
  • Out farm her.

VS

LeBlanc

Easy

  • Your Shield gives you enough to survive her burst.
  • Easy to zone.
  • Easy to out farm.
  • Push lane hard if she is missing, she probably went to gank other lanes because she cant kill you. Call MIA constantly.

VS

Lee Sin

Easy

  • High mobility.
  • Harass to win lane.

VS

Lux

Medium

  • She does out range you.
  • Essentially a farm lane.
  • Out farm her.
  • Don't get snared

VS

Malphite

Hard

Yes AP Malphite!

  • Q hurts.
  • Harassing him is very difficult.
  • Try to harass with Autos to zone him but care his Q.
  • Just outfarm

VS

Malzahar

Easy

  • Your 'E: Command: Protect' negates almost all his damage.
  • He will push so farm under tower.
  • Try not to harass too much and wait for ganks.

VS

Mordekaiser

Easy

  • You out range him.
  • Wait for his shield to lower when you harass.
  • Tends to push lane, practice farming under tower.

VS

Morgana

Medium

  • Essentially a farm lane.
  • Out farm her.
  • Don't get snared
  • Black shields negates your burst/harass/CC so wait for ganks.

VS

Orianna

Medium

  • Outplay.
  • Out Farm.
  • Dodge her abilities and hit yours.

VS

Ryze

Medium

  • Very strong early game.
  • While he is very short range he can deal tons of damage if he catches you.
  • Try keep ball with you and send it directly at him when he advances on you.
  • Easier for him to get around ball if you have it out in lane.

VS

Swain

Easy

  • Out farm.
  • Even if you get snared you can still Shield yourself and then send ball to him to harass as you retreat.
  • Just beware ganks.
  • Keep distance from him.

VS

Syndra

Easy

  • Similar range
  • Dodge her abilities.
  • Shield allows you to survive her burst at 6.

VS

Talon

Easy

  • Talon has to jump right on top of you to deal high amounts of damage.
  • Keep from getting harassed and you win lane.
  • Keep distance.
  • Shield allows you to survive his burst.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

  • You can see his Gold Card a mile away.
  • Essentially a farm lane.
  • Keep up with his ganks.
  • Call MIA

VS

Veigar

Medium

  • Scary stun.
  • Out farm.
  • Wait for ganks

VS

Viktor

Easy

  • Similar range on harass
  • Easy to avoid laser.

VS

Vladimir

Easy

  • Wait for him to Q and then advance on him.
  • Too tempting for Vlad to Farm without Q.
  • Take advantage of his cool downs.
  • Out farm.

VS

Xerath

Easy

  • Out Ranges you.
  • He becomes immobilized for .5s which is enough to flash and land full combo.
  • Dodge harass.
  • Out Farm.

VS

Ziggs

Medium

  • Harass as strong as yours.
  • Farm as strong as yours.
  • Outplay him in team fights for the win.

Zyra

Easy

  • Her Plants add to your Creep count and give gold. Take advantage.
  • If you avoid snare you will be fine.
  • Tends to push, practice farming under tower.

So the Matchups Back to Top

So I tried to make a little section about every possible match-up you will probably encounter. Yes, some are a lot harder than others; but remember you are Orianna. The Farm Queen. So, as long as you avoid dying in lane, your farm alone will get you through to the team fights. This is where you excel.

Orianna.jpg

About the Lady of Clockwork Back to Top

Orianna is definitely a unique and challenging champion.

She is different from most champions yet, extremely fun and rewarding to play.
There are a few things to keep in mind, though.
Orianna's Champion Spotlight

Mechanics:

  • All of her abilities originate from her Ball.
  • Orianna's Ball does have a maximum range and is not infinite.
  • An arrow will always point towards your ball.
  • The color of this arrow determines your balls distance.
  • Green means the Ball is close.
  • Yellow means the Ball is a fair distance away.
  • Red means the Ball is far away, and moving just a bit away will recall the Ball back to Orianna.
  • Upon reaching max distance her ball will instantly return to her.

Pros:

  • The Farm Queen.
  • Strong lane phase presence.
  • High burst damage.
  • Strong team fight initiate.
  • Strong team utility (Shield, Speed Boost/Slow.)
  • Roaming presence.
  • High skill cap.

Cons:

  • Skill shot dependent.
  • Easy to lose control in the middle of a huge team fight situation.
  • Easily oom if you spam skills without restraint.
  • You need to keep tabs on not only your champions location; but your balls location as well.
  • High skill cap.

Lore and Background Story.

Orianna1.jpg

Game Play Back to Top

Orianna is the type of champ that applies pressure at all stages of the game.
Use this to your advantage.
Zone them out.

The game begins at champion select.
Check out the next section for optimal partnerships and team composition.

Early.

  • So, as the game starts, you want to get out of base as soon as you can. Use your ball to scout brushes that may harbor possible invaders and ruin their plans.
  • While laning, try to wait until about level 3 to start poking down your opponent. Remember to always follow up a good Q-W combo with auto attacks. Your 'W: Command: Dissonance' creates a field that slows your enemy and speeds you up; making landing your autos fairly simple.
  • Always try to stay above half on your mana. You want to be able to follow up on any ganks that come your way; or get away from potential threats.
  • Be aware of the jungler's. Both yours and your opponents. Orianna is great for assisting around the map if your team gets invaded or if your jungler goes a little too aggressive.

Mid.

Ball.
  • Be aware of your Ball's location.
  • Remember to always enter any engagements with your ball.
  • Do NOT leave it at 'Blue Wraiths' as you go to assist your team at Dragon. Your ball will still have to travel from where you last left it; to where you want it to be. Unless, of course, it has already returned to you.

Game-play.

  • As the mid lane you have easy access to the whole map. React to friendly or enemy ganks bottom and top lane.
  • Remember that a single tower is more important to single champion kill.
  • I usually like to gank the closest lane, with my jungler, after getting my 2nd Blue around ~13:30.

Fights

  • Most fights mid game usually take place around the jungle area where you have the advantage.
  • Using your ball to zone and separate the enemy team is ideal if you're in a safe position, like over a wall.
  • Having to pass your ball is extremely dangerous for the enemy team.
  • Your primary engagement should be an 'E: Command: Protect' to an 'R: Command: Shockwave' so you can can stay a safe distance from the main engagement but still be able to do heavy damage.
  • After the main engagement your primary role is to SUPPORT.
  • Don't try to assassinate anyone after your engagement.
  • Don't forget about the knock back of your ult. Remember it knocks opponents a FIXED distance towards your ball. Use it correctly when trying to either close the gap, or create distance. Like so.
  • The next section down (Clockwise Champs) explains the best combos and ideal engagements.

Late.

Game-play.

  • As late game approaches, you need to NOT get caught.
  • Nothing is worse than throwing a game, because some teammates can not stay with group.
  • Usually, later in the game, there will still be some Tier 2 towers that can easily be picked off. Especially if you already have an inhibitor down.
  • If there is a stalemate create fights in the jungle and NOT under enemy tower.

Fights.

  • So this is where you separate the good and the GOD Orianna players.
  • Land that ultimate to make or break the fight.
  • AGAIN, LAND THAT ULTIMATE.
  • Refer back to GAME-PLAY/MID/FIGHTS section to get detailed instructions about the team fights.

Clockwise Champs (Great Synergy) Back to Top

THE GAME STARTS AT CHAMP SELECT.

So, here is a list of champs that synergize extremely well with Orianna.
These are usually Tanky Bruiser Jungler's that can penetrate the enemy front lines, and make it
extremely easy to land a game changing ultimate on the enemy team.

Champion Select plays a huge role on how the game will turn out.
Nothing feels better than when you're itching to play Orianna and you see your team mates
choose one of these champs.

12_icon_64.png
Alistar can be played Support or Jungle. He gets extremely tanky with his ultimate and is able to rush through the enemy front line. If he catches a high priority target with his 'Q: Pulverize' you can send your ball to him and unleash 'Command: Shockwave.'

32_icon_64.png
Amumu has a great gap closer with his 'Q: Bandage Toss' which stuns the enemy hit. He also has one of the best initiates in the game with his 'R: Curse of the Sad Mummy.' This combo is GG.

31_icon_64.png
Cho'gath gets extremely tanky no matter what and is very hard to deal with. Now imagine 'E: Command: Protect' on him. He becomes the scariest front line ever.

131_icon_64.png
You play the role of AP Mid so having a Diana Jungle or Top creates great synergy. She has tons of mobility and should be capable of getting to high priority targets. Her 'W: Moonfall' brings everyone closer together, just how you like them.

36_icon_64.png
Dr. Mundo is similar to 31_icon_64.png in the sense of providing an amazing front line. Mundo becomes extremely difficult to deal with late game. With your support he can breach enemy lines and survive the focus of many enemy champions.

9_icon_64.png
Fiddlesticks is making a comeback this season. Like 32_icon_64.png, if he gets a good ult in, so do you. He already has so much built in CC that his ganks are very powerful; although he doesn't have the best gap closer.

3_icon_64.png
Galio doesn't exactly have the gap closer either like most of these other champs do but he is a great asset to the team if you're running a defensive late game composition. If he gets a good ult off, you do too.

120_icon_64.png
Hecarim has one of the best ganking potentials with Orianna. His great mobility plus your 'W: Command: Dissonance' allows him to catch just about anyone. His ultimate also makes it very easy to land a good 'R: Command: Shockwave.'

59_icon_64.png
Jarvan IV has an ultimate that traps your enemies in a ring keeping them from escaping, this is where you need to hit your ultimate.

24_icon_64.png
Jax is one of the best late game assassins in the game. His ultimate allows him to dive into the enemy team and survive long enough to drop multiple enemies. Be sure to assist him with 'E: Command: Protect'  and 'W: Command: Dissonance.' He also makes landing a good ultimate very easy.

64_icon_64.png
A good Lee Sin on your team is always such a relief to have and a great asset to the team. He has a ton of early game pressure which should make for easy laning. His kit allows him to have tons of mobility and extraordinary ganks. Keep him alive and take advantage of his mobility. Where he goes your ball should too.

54_icon_64.png
Malphite has one of the strongest initiates in the games along with 32_icon_64.png. When Malphite uses his ultimate be sure to wait a second for the enemy team to be grounded again. This extends the duration which they are stunned and knocked up when you land your ult right after. Check it.

57_icon_64.png
Maokai has one of the best ganks for Orianna. If he gets to your enemy, then so does your ball. One of my personal favorite partnerships.

56_icon_64.png
Nocturne has strong early game a huge global presence. Make sure to beware of his ultimate though, it has a pretty far travel distance so your ball could return to you and you will end up ulting yourself. Save your 'E: Command: Protect' after he lands on the enemy so you know your ball will reach and land a good ult.

80_icon_64.png
Pantheon has a great gap closer which stuns the enemy. Try to wait a second to ult so you allow the full duration of his stun.

33_icon_64.png
Rammus has a 3 second taunt and high mobility. Use your 'W: Command: Dissonance' to help him catch your enemies. Great combo for catching enemies out of position. Let Rammus be the tank!

98_icon_64.png
When you have a Shen on your team you make it extremely difficult for anybody on your team to die. Your 'E: Command: Protect' and his ultimate 'R: Stand United' creates a very difficult shield to get past. He also has a Dash which taunts enemies; if this is used offensively, it creates a great opportunity to land 'R: Command: Shockwave.'

102_icon_64.png
Shyvana doesn't have much early crowd control early for ganking. That's where you come in. If you can slow your enemy down with 'W: Command: Dissonance,' Shyvana will be able to easily close the distance for a powerful gank. Again, her ultimate makes her very tanky and allows her to dive straight into the enemy team. At which point a 'R: Command: Shockwave' is in order. The Combo

Skarner is great for initiating fights and picking enemies off. You make it extremely easy for him to catch an enemy with 'W: Command: Dissonance.' Skarner doesn't have as much mobility as the other champs so he wont always get an AD Carry or AP Mage so try to save your Ultimate for them.

Warwick doesn't have very much CC for early ganking but is capable of dealing a lot of damage if you can help him catch your enemy. Keep an eye out for his 'R: Infinite Duress,' which suppresses the enemy for a few seconds, creating a great initiate opportunity.

Wukong is a sneaky little fellow. Protect him with your Ball as he goes stealth and jumps on the enemy team. His ultimate, not only knocks enemies into the air, but is able to move while doing so. Landing your ultimate should be cake once he has gone in. He has 1 of the best surprise attacks/team fight engages in the game.

Conclusion and About Me. Back to Top

First of all, I want to thank you for visiting my very first guide ever. I tried to make it as informative and as easy to read as I could. I do plan to edit and add to this guide a bit further but I just wanted to get it out there for people to see and use. I am open for any suggestions or comments, so please let me know. =]

I've been playing leagues for about 2 years now and i absolutely love it! I know I have lots of room for improving my LoL game, but I feel like i do know the game mechanics very well. I'm pretty confident in my ability to provide a good explanation and analysis on how the game works. I barely reached Gold Rating for Season 2 and I felt extremely accomplished; but I do plan on taking it further this season.

Thanks again everyone.
