Summoner Spells Back to Top

UPDATE: Advice on choosing summoner spells for ezreal.

1.) Flash is a must have on adc's for the big plays, escapes, etc. Ezreal is no exception. Take this every game.

2a.) Ignite for the early kills and to snowball your lane. Beware ignite falls off late game and has no defensive purposes in team fights.

2b.) Barrier is strong in s3, can negate burst and bait tower dives turning them into kills, or for just winning 2v2's or 1v1's.

2c.) Cleanse can be a necessary spell to take against hard cc that is unavoidable or for a second chance if you get caught. IE: Fiddle fear, rammus taunt, mao root, sej ulti (can be dodged by your e or flash, but it's pretty likely at some point in the game you will get stunned by it and if you don't have cleanse it could likely cost you your life.)

Utility: 0

Standard Adc 21-9-0, only difference is exchange the crit masteries for the cdr masteries. Also if you want help for last hitting exchange the attack speed masteries with the Butcher mastery.

It's better to take 9 in defense than utility because ezreal is one of the squishiest champs in the game and this build will give you infinite spammability once you get your spirit stone and tear anyway.

Max R>Q>E>W or R>Q>W>E

Q: This is your bread and butter spell, spammable long range skill shot scales off of AD and procs on-hit affects. This procs your Spirit of the Lizard Elder true damage, it also procs the slow field and sheen from Ice borne Gauntlet. Once your reach full cdr (40% cdr) with this build your q is on a 2.4 second cooldown. If you land your q it reduces all of your cooldowns by 1 second, so your q is will be on a 1.4 second cooldown if you land it. This is what makes this build so strong, it is similar to cdr on ryze, in that the more cdr you get from items the more you can utilize your passive cdr.

W: This ability isn't as strong as it used to be I like to max it last most of the time, it deals decent damage and it can be used through minions unlike ezreal's q. It's great for tower pushing as well just use it on your teammates and you steamroll towers.

E: A flash that deals damage on a 19/17/15/13/11 second cooldown. This is what makes ezreal, in my opinion, the easiest adc to play. Ezreal is the most mobile and elusive adc, you can outplay opponents, reposition, and jump over any wall in the game with this ability. With full cdr this is on about a 7 second cooldown, and if you land 2 q's its on a 5 second cooldown.

R: Global skill shot ultimate, does great damage on the first target you hit, and quickly drops off to nearly no damage the more enemies it passes through. This is great to use at the beginning of team fights if your team connects on some aoe cc or if the enemy team is clumped together. Also, lategame you can clear waves globally, which can be extremely useful. Ex. Your in a baron standoff, but your bot lane is pushing hard and you will lose a tower if your team doesn't stop the wave, but you may lose baron control if someone leaves to clear it. Np, Ult the bot lane wave.  With full cdr this is on a ~45second cooldown, down to a ~30 second cooldown if you are constantly spamming and landing q's.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

1.) This is your first big purchase, it's combining items are easy to purchase, 2 long swords (400), and a spirit stone (700). This is nice for 10% cdr working towards the cap. Also good dmg, sustain, and true dmg for all your abilities and aa's.
2.) I build a tear right after my lizard. Whenever you are full mana or in the fountain spam your abilities, or at least your q. This gives your infinite spam, and a TON of damage for little cost once you purchase your manamune. I hold off on completing the manamune until after i finish my sheen or Gauntlet but it can be rushed if you are stacking your tear fast.
3.) This item turns ezreal into a kiting machine and makes him nearly unkillable. The sheen passive procs increase your dmg and procs on your q's. The slow field procs on all your q's, the 10% cdr gets you closer to your cap(40%), and the armor increases your durability.
4.) Complete your manamune, hopefully you've been spamming your abilities a lot and you are close to your muramana. One of the most cost efficient items in the game, gives you a ton of ad for very little $.
5.) Must have in nearly all games for an adc. Increases your damage massively if they are stacking armor. Nothing more to say.
2-4.) 15% cdr needed for full cap 40%. These are the best boots available for Ezreal. Get this when you can should be in between your second to fourth purchase.
UPDATE: 1b.) If you get some early kills and are snowballing, rushing a bt is imo a stronger item to have than lizard. (this situation is if you have the luxury to purchase a bf straight up on your first or second back) After BT go on with the standard blue build, skipping lizard. Late game or even mid game you can still have full cdr with a blue pot. (250g fairly inexpensive.)

Situational Items

6a.) My most preferred 6th item. Becomes more cost efficient the late the game goes (does %hp dmg). Some good lifesteal. The Active is the real selling point though, if somehow one of their assassins or bruisers gets to you just pop this on them, giving you some extra hp and speed away with their movement speed.
6b.) QSS active, is a lifesaver/gamesaver for adc's. Damage boost is nice as well. Get this if they have unavoidable hard cc, or just a ton of hard cc to give you a second life.
6c,d,e,f) Just some other options, situational.

VS

Ashe

Medium

Early game mostly a poke battle. You have the advantage in that it is easier for you to get a kill on her pre 6 than it is for her to kill you because of ezreals mobility and burst potential with e. Pushing the lane slightly or hard can make this lane hell for Ashe, since you can poke her down with q's easier while she tries to last hit a massive wave. Careful post-6, your e is nice to dodge her ulti, but if your e is on cooldown be prepared to flash, dodge, or cleanse her arrow. She can set up ganks very well with it.

VS

Caitlyn

Hard

Difficult lane for pretty much any champ, laning against cait as an adc is hell, I hate it. Her range is annoying, and she is hard to poke down since she can use minions as a shield with her range. Just remember you outscale her and late game you will outpoke and outrange her with this build. She will becomes nearly useless late game. Just survive lane, it's best not to let her push too hard and punish you with poke while your trying to last hit under tower. The best advice against a caitlyn is to control the lane and don't let her push too hard. When your jungler arrives this is the time where you need to capitalize and get a kill or force her out of lane. Also, try to keep your tower alive as long as possible because she will roam mid and push there as well once she takes bot. She is an early game champion don't let her get a big lead and take too many objectives early game and you will be fine.

VS

Corki

Medium

He got nerfed pretty hard. Low range, you out poke. Careful of his burst though, don't just stand in his armor shred and don't get in close range aa battles with him, just poke him down.

Edit: Corki's mana costs were buffed, still an easy matchup pushing medium difficulty. This lane is all about staying at a proper distance from corki, just out off his aa and q range, but in range for ezreal to land q's. His poke got a lot stronger with this recent buff, he gets more big missiles and his r is more spammable.

Edit 2: Triforce buffs, Corki now one of the strongest ad's in the game bumped up to medium.

VS

Draven

Hard

DAAAAAAM, this guy hurts. He will rape you in straight up auto attack battles, so don't exchange with him close range. Just q him if he tries to go agro on you and moves up past his creep wave. You outscale hard he will still be able to beat you in a close range 1v1 at any point in the game, but you can outmaneuver, outpoke, and outplay him. He'll be pretty useless lategame vs this build, just siege towers, he has no wave clear or poke late game. Soooooo, kind of like Cait, don't let him snowball the game early and just survive lane.

VS

Graves

Medium

Pretty even matchup in lane, he has short range so you can abuse that. He will be vulnerable to your q's if he tries to get close and do his aa/q combo on you. He can dodge your abilities and outplay you with his quickdraw. He also has massive burst. Late game he has wave clear but there is no chance he can get close to you with this build, just outpoke and outplay him. In lane, just play it slow and poke and don't let him force you to your tower the entire lane, he can push you hard and it just limits your poke.

VS

Kog'Maw

Medium

This lane can either be really easy or really hard, depending on the skill level of the kog. Early game kog can only make small exchanges when his w is active, constantly click on his champion animation to see when it goes on cooldown, and punish him HARD. As a kogmaw player, I know how useless as fuck early game kogma is when his w is on cooldown. Just punish him for it, also pre 6 he doesnt have enough damage, burst, or mobility to kill you without a gank. You can kill him easily so make sure to pressure him. HE WILL OUTSCALE YOU HARD and post 6 if the kogmaw is good he will win trades hard. So basically punish him early before he becomes a monster who can smoke you down with 3 aa's and a few r's.

VS

Miss Fortune

Hard

Difficult match up, maybe the toughest. She is good in lane and can outrade you and she scales well into late game with her ulti. Just try and farm and sneak in some q poke. Dont just stand there are aa trade with her unless she is vulnerable to q's. Always bait trades to set up jungle ganks, when her passive strut movement speed boost is down she is VERY vulnerable and has no escapes. When she ulti's, E out immediately that shit hurts.

VS

Quinn

Medium

ummmmmm Haven't played many. Easy cause he has short range and you can dodge his blind with your e. He's just not good at the moment so should be an easy lane.

Edit: After consecutive buffs, I've upgraded Quinn to medium difficulty. Burst and damage comparative to draven or mf on aa's and his blind does a ton of dmg not to mention can chase you down with bird form even if you e away. Keep your distance and poke with q's. Approach this matchup with caution, especially post 6.

VS

Sivir

Easy

She has no range, dodge her q's and don't trade up close with her when she activites her ulti, just poker her down. Bait her spell shield, its on a very long cooldown and I don't think it worth it for her to use it on our q, because then your support can cc her or punish her and your q is on such a short cd.

VS

Tristana

Medium

Pretty easy early game, take 3 pts in the magic resist masteries, her early game damage is all magic. She has short range so out poke her. Careful of her all in's and burst damage. Don't waste your e, you need it to dodge her rocket jump, if she goes aggressive on you and rocket jumps onto you and you e dodge it, just go hard as fuck on her and you will in the trade. Late game she outscales pretty much all adc's including you, but you still can outpoke her in standoffs and you can kite her with this build. Usually in team fights their enemy frontline will be diving you, and your frontline will be diving trist. So it will just be who can come out ahead in that situation.

VS

Twitch

Hard

He's really strong right now, his burst damage is insane early game. Do NOT let him get a bunch of his passive stacks on you, he will expunge and you will be dead or severely hurt. You can our range him and outpoke him, his range is shortish w/o his ult. He also has no wave clear so you can out push him throughout the entire game, including late game when you can out siege and out poke him.

VS

Varus

Medium

He does more damage in straight up trades, in fact he does a ton of damage early game with his aa's + e or q. Punish him with poke, he is like the least mobile adc along with kogmaw. He can't dodge your q, w, or r. You can dodge his r and all of his skill shots. Save your e or flash for his ulti because if it hits youll probably be dead. Late game you can kite him for dayz with this build. You outscale with this build.

VS

Vayne

Easy

Extremely easy lane. Poke hard and punish her early game. She has no range and no damage early game unless she condemns your or your squishy support. Punish her early because she is weak. Late game with this build you can kite her forever and she can't get close. Basically she is a chasing champ and what do you do against champs that chase? You kite. Just keep hitting q's and stay at a distance every q will apply your slow field, use your e to re position. It takes some practice, but it's pretty easy once you get the concept down. Don't fight her close range late game or even mid game, she will literally 2 or 3 shot you depending on if she crits. With this build you outscale her, she has no wave clear and she is complete trash against tower sieges and she cant seige well either.

About this Build Back to Top

On the NA server it is inevitable that people will give you shit for building this way.

"TROLL BUILD EZ!"
"Y U TROLL THE TEAM EZ, NO DMG"
"lmfao ez's build rofl we lose"
"omfg our adc does 0 dmg look at that build"
You just gotta ignore them or just laugh it off and then carry them.

On the Taiwan server this is the standard Ezreal build, also in the GPL, the Taiwanese pro league ezreal is either first picked or banned out every game because of the power of this build in a skilled ezreal's hands. The adc on the Season 2 Champion Taipei Assassins uses this build in all of his ezreal games.
Here is a link to him using it in action in a GPL game:

EDIT: As this build has gained popularity it is now accepted by nearly everyone in ranked, I have even seen players and entire solo q teams get mad at their Ezreal for NOT going blue build on him ^_^. This just shows that there are always new champions and builds that can become powerful out of no where with a game as diverse and extensive as league.
