Summoner Spells Back to Top

Smite and ghost are key on Hecarim. Smite is standard for junglers due to the power of objective control and buffs. Ghost is powerful on Hecarim due to the fact it gives him bonus AD and allow him to position his ult and E better in fights and ganks.

Armor pen reds help with jungler clearing with your Q and autos as well as making you do massive damage to squishy targets in ganks early on.

Scaling armor because I don't use health pots in the jungle with flat so might as well use them and scale.

Magic resist per level for late game AP's as well as cooldown reduction for your abilities and due to the fact we don't rush frozen heart.

Movement speed quints to give Hecarim bonus AD and superior positioning in fights as well as being everywhere during the game.

Leveling Q is better now, as I believe killing the blue/red as fast as possible is better then sustaining. Although there are exceptions, such as if you have someone with a shield such as Lee sin.

W 2nd for the sustain, and at level 3 you can choose to level up Q again to farm faster to level 4 or to level up E for a gank. I usually farm, so I get Q usually.

Maxing Q to abuse it's damage on champions, as it's really high starting at rank 3 of the skill.

Max E 2nd' as the cooldown goes down more per level compared to W (2 instead of 1) and the mana cost is flat at all levels. W damage isn't that good compared to E and the mana cost is extremely high if you max it. This doesn't mean you should spam E when you do camps it's just an insane nuking/mobility tool, making you able to 1 shot people do it's high damage. If you have blue though, always spam your E for extra single target damage on camps which makes you clear healthier due to killing the big monster faster.

Ult whenever possible..

TIPS TO USE YOUR ABILITIES

When ganking someone, remember to Q first and then auto and then just click next to the champion and not on him. You want Hecarim to be able to hit his Q on the champion, as it does more damage then his auto's.

Use your W when your able to take a lot of damage, or your teams about to deal a lot of damage. Don't just go in a fight and use it cause you initiated, because I see a lot of Hecarims making this mistake and dying when they should of lived.

Don't just "tap" your E in a small fight as your E will do less damage then your auto due to not charging up.

Try to use your Ult in conjunction with your E and ghost. When you ult behind the enemy carry, you can push them back further with it as well as dealing tons of damage.

You can use your E as an auto attack or ability cancel. Say you are killing an adc and are low, you can E and cancel 1 of their autos if it is needed.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    STANDARD

Core Items

After your first initial clear, you should back and get boots, and then work on finishing your jungle item.
I find this item way better then Iceborn gauntlet. I had my doubts at first, but the AD, crit, attack speed, this item is the item everypony wants.
DONT GET THIS UNTIL YOU FINISH YOUR SPIRIT ELDER AND SHEEN. I usually go with ninja tabi, as the lower minion, tower, champion auto's, neutral creep damage is just so good for the cheap cost. I rarely get merc treads unless they have something like a fiddle. Typically if I go merc treads I'll go for a spirit visage next. If you go for merc treads, you need armor, so go for a randins.
EXAMPLE LATE GAME BUILD (yes I buy boosts upgrade a lot early after trinity for example).
When you are 6 item'd get this to replace your jungle item. It's pretty redic on hec. Also really good after trinity if you are snow balling.
FINAL BUILD. The randuin's isn't needed just buy whatever you think would help you. Zrot portal is really good for defensive stats all around as well.
If I can I'd buy phage over sheen but be sure to get the sheen next (buy an amp tome if you only have 500 gold when you back again so you can buy it if you need to back early).

Situational Items

I will miss this item on Hecarim forever. I was probably the only Hecarim to build this item and see how good it was on him. What a shame.
MORE OF A FUN ITEM. JUST W/E DONT DO IT THOUGH
Good item after trinity if snow balling BUT I DONT KNOW I DONT LIKE IT ANYWAY LOL

Machete 2 pots.

Going back Rangers Trail and boots.

Finish the warrior enchant make him clear the higher health creeps later on in the game faster as well as doing more AoE damage with his Q due to the armor pen and high AD.

Sheen improves Hecarim damage immensely, making him gank with more damage as well as clear faster. If you can buy a phage 1st back, do that instead.

Once you finish trinity force, you're damage will maintain high throughout the game, and at this point just start stacking tank items based on what you need.

Dead mans plate is a great item next as the health and armor is key stats for any melee champion. It also gives Hecarim more movement speed and burst due to his passive and due to our cdr runes not getting frozen heart isn't a issue.

Hextech Gunblade is a really great item as well. It is the blade of the ruined king for Hecarim giving him an insane active slow, insane life steal and AoE spell vamp with his Q W and R (mostly about his Q spellvamp). Your E, since we max it 2nd, will also give insane life steal. I tend to get this item after trinity (Cutlass first) if I don't need armor against say a Zed middle as it is a tank item as long as you play smart and sustain off it during fights (example is if you are 1500 hp and you're total hp is 1800 if you E R W Q into a fight you should instantly go to full hp with it, so it's a tank item due to the 300 hp it made you gain). Your Q will heal you for 70+ hp mid/early late game if you hit 3 targets.

I tend to get spirit visage next for the CDR and magic resist as this is the time team fights start to happen. The 20% increased healing does wonders for your W as well as your Hextech Gunblade healing. I used to get Maw but AD doesn't do too much for Hecarim due to him having no armor pen and his Q scaling really bad with AD.

Sterak's Gage is the next item I buy. It gives you 25+ base AD (something around 29 at level 18 I believe) which makes your trinity force proc do more damage. Trinity force procs is the majority of Hecarim's damage throughout the game but more so late game. This assures that you can carry late game with good engages and high nuking damage. If it procs (take 1800+ damage, depends what level you are) you gain double base AD which makes you hurt more but the big thing is the huge 1200+ hp shield you gain. This makes it so you can't actually die even if focused as long as your team follows up on a good engage and allows your W and hextech to refill your health bar while the shield is tanking the damage. This also prevent you from going below 50% HP so the enemy team's executioner mastery (5% more damage on targets below 25-50% health) won't work, so you will be more tanky and not die. Not a lot of people think this way and this is why I believe this to be an insane pick up on Hecarim with this build setup insuring you don't drop below 50% hp at the start of a fight.

The last item you can build really whatever you want. There are a lot of Yasuo/Jinx/Anivia players lately so I've been building it only last to make me more tank against their crits and have an AoE slow when I ult in. You can also build a Zrot Portal for the all around stats if you need the MR and armor against the enemy team. The passive is also really good for Hecarim and the voidlings will do plenty of damage with your health pool. You can get really anything such as Maw, quick silver shash or even a titanic hydra for extra burst on your E if you want to 1 shot someone or as an auto attack reset after your E. Just have an open mind about what you need last.

Sell boots 1st and then jungle item to buy last 2 items in build. FARM FARM FARM THAT'S WHAT I DO!

SITUATIONAL ITEMS

Merc treads only if they have a fiddle.

(I explain my situational in the panels above in "Situational" so lol.

VS

Amumu

Easy

Pretty easy match up. Your Q wrecks his face as well as your W, just gotta really worry about his late game really unless he gets fed early for whatever reason.

VS

Cho'Gath

Hard

Cho'Gath's auto's with his E destroy hecarim throughout the game, and his silence and knock up slow also cripple him. To make it worse, his true damage nuke also gives him a hard time to regain health in fights.

Pretty much avoid fighting this guy at all costs, unless you see a opening where he is really low health.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Medium

Can be easy but can be hard depending on the fiddle player and how well you use your CC. Just gotta make sure not to waste any CC for his drain and you'll beat him.

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

Very easy to beat, you out damage him and out sustain him in fights and in the jungle.

VS

Lee Sin

Hard

Lee sin is pretty much the most unbalanced champion in the game, that needs a nerf already. He usually just invades your red so tell your support to ward your wraiths at the start of the game.

If you do fight him though, you can beat him as long as you a kite a bit with your Q and wait for your W and there isn't creeps on you.

VS

Malphite

Easy

Farm fest, you won't kill him, he won't kill you.

VS

Maokai

Medium

Pretty much he can't do much to you except just cc you up and slow you with his Q which ruins Hecarim's E. One of Hecarim's biggest weaknesses is slows.

You can kill him easily during the game, but late game don't expect to kill him. Because Hecairm has to be button smashing his Q, his passive will just heal him too much to the point of not dying ever.

VS

Nautilus

Hard

I haven't seen a good naut in a long time, as I'm really the only good naut player right now. But whenever I vs a Hecarim with Naut, I just destroy him due to the cc and slows he has in his kit. The damage over time and shield he has just destroys Hecarim.

Be very careful of a good naut.

VS

Olaf

Medium

Depending on who gets fed, will dictate how hard or easy this match up will be.

VS

Skarner

Easy

Hecarim destroys skarner in all cases as long as it's even. If the skarner get's fed, however... The game is pretty much over.

VS

Warwick

Easy

Very easy, you out damage his heals, just stomp him.
