Prioritize your ultimate then max Q since it's your main damage dealer then getting two points in W then max your E.

Putting two points in W will substantially increase your wave clearing since it can wipe the whole wave with a mere Q + W combo.

Maxing E 2nd increases it's uptime since the CD is lowered and the aspd is buffed and AA's lowers the cooldown.

Start

With the increase in base movement speed it is safe to say that the boots meta has been abolished. AD's can now safely go dorans blade or longsword 2 pots. This only made Graves more bursty in lane so abuse the free AD start in lane. If you have decided to go 1055_32.png then make sure to utilize the free AD and trade with the enemy, just AA to regain your HP. Going 1001_32.png gives you a better margin to outplay but will leave you weak in early trades, make sure to plan your pot consumption wisely, there is nothing worse than having no pots and being pushed and harassed under your tower.

Core

A bloodthirster rush is encouraged since the earlier you get it, the earlier you could stack the free AD. But if you're having a tough time, make sure to buy an extra dorans blade. To continue that, black cleaver has been a lucrative item, AD + armor pen is suitable for AD casters like Graves so build it 2nd or after a PD depending on the game. If you find yourself having trouble living, buy a GA against bursters and QSS against CC, a dead AD is no good.

Situational

If you're feeling trigger happy, the classic IE + PD combo is still legitimate but I don't prefer it as much because of the new Black Cleaver. It's too good of an item to pass up.

When people think of ADC, Graves comes to mind first. He has been nerfed numerous times because of his amazing kit but despite the numbers being nerfed, it doesn't change the fact that his kit is still KING!


Pros

  • One of the best wave clears in the game
  • He is tanky for an AD carry
  • Can 100-0 combo
  • ASPD steroid almost always up late game
  • Dash over walls
  • Smoke can lag enemy or used tactically
  • Can snipe with ulti
  • He's a safe pick
  • He's a babe

Cons

  • Lowest range out of the basic AD's (525)
  • Hard time against longer range AD's
  • Mana consumption
  • Could uncontrollably push the wave and leave you at risk

Early Game

A way to show your dominance is freezing the lane to your advantage, doing so leaves them vulnerable when they're going in for the CS (E > Q > AA > W > AA combo), and makes your lane safe from jungle ganks. Another way to win lane is to push and win in CS, Graves has one of the best wave clears because of his AOE. Pushing the lane can cause the enemy to miss CS under the tower and feel pressure, this specifically works against low base AD's but you are more susceptible to a jungle gank. Furthermore, if you're paired up with a CC heavy support, make sure to let them know that you're a threat by "faking" the engage to zone them, if successful you can zone the enemy or punish their mistakes. TIP: get your passive stacks up before engaging. 

Mid Game

Graves is amazing mid game, you will probably have your BF items already which only increases your damage. AD casters usually dominate in mid game because of people rushing their core items and not buying resistances. Make sure to pressure dragon, push, or group up. Call in your jungle near dragon and force an exchange on bottom lane that would either kill or weaken them, this will let you take the dragon uncontested. Now there are two things you can do, either split push or 5 man group. Split pushing works best if almost every lane won and there is no clear objective but towers. Finally, Grouping if lanes are pushed and if teamfights will be in your favor. TIP: Q > W clears the wave entirely.

Late Game

You either stay with the team and revolve your plays around Baron and inhibitors or keep split pushing Doublelift style. Make good use of your Q > W > R in teamfights and hit as much people as possible. Also your E helps you position yourself so just keep attacking to keep its uptime. TIP: Always use your W at chokepoints or in the middle of the teamfight, this will confuse the enemy if they either engage or back off, so make great use of it instead of spamming it with no intention.

To be a better AD in teamfights, the main question you have to ask yourself is: "can this guy harm me? is that person dangerous?" If so, you have to position yourself with those factors in mind, if not you could just ignore them and attack  the actual carries.

Best

117_icon_64.png Lulu has been very dominant lately, her kit is perfect for Graves. A movement speed buff/polymorph CC, shield that grants extra damage, amazing poke, and an ultimate to protect you in case you get rushed which can also be used offensively.
16_icon_64.png Heal and mana? No problem, soraka got yo back, you'll stay in lane for years and be able to shove the wave to the enemy tower with no problemo. 
44_icon_64.png Two machos in one lane? DAMN. His cc, ult, passive, and armor debuff makes smashing enemies easy.
37_icon_64.png Sona brings poke, sustain, and cc to the lane. Landing a good ult can instakill the enemy.
53_icon_64.png He should be banned in every game. He's a no risk high reward champion.

Counters

54_icon_64.png An ADC's worst nightmare. His ult + E will leave you useless.
4_icon_64.png TF's global pressure makes laning hard. Make sure to cop a feel of how dominant TF is and base your aggressiveness on it.
107_icon_64.png Rengar should be banned every game. His innate tankiness, burst, and broken stealth mechanic makes surprise ganks easy.
35_icon_64.png Shaco becomes quite troublesome under the hands of a skilled player. Stealth and built in slow can turn the tides of the lane.
