Reds:

Magic Pen: this is usually taken due to damage output for base skill damage on supports. I often take this if I play AP supports like Zyra and Thresh. (OR MORGANA)
Armor: More tankiness to soak more damage. Works with the ones who are generally squishy, ex. Sona; OR that synergizes with more Armor or MR, such as Leona, who has built-in tankiness stat/skill set.

Yellow:
Armor: This is a must rune page for supports as the main damage you will be taking at bot is AD.
Gold Per 5: Since the bot lane got more aggressive than before, the gold per 5 yellows are not popular as before as armor yellow has taken over for more armor. You could still take it, but it could really cost your early game.

Blues:
Magic Pen: As my support style playing, I always want to do more damage to give a chance for more killing chance. I usually take this with Thresh and Zyra.
MR/MR per level: This is also a choice of blue runes if you want to be more tanky. Tank supports like Leona will usually take this.
Quints: Health: As i explained in the car, early levels became a dangerous zone for getting instagibed as the early aggression grew from past. To prevent that, health quints are the solution for early base stats, also makes you tank minion aggros with the masteries I will be explaining below. This can be taken by any supports
Quints: Gold: SUPPORTS NEED MONEH, NNED MOAR? THEN TAKE THIS
But no really, gold per runes are not really necessary anymore to supports as kills/assists became the source of income due to aggression on bot lane. You still get tons of gold from killing wards as they buffed it, so trust me on this.

Utility: 0

Before Explanation, I wanna go over Utility tree especially first tier and second tier.

with first tier, i always go the far left, and mvt speed and mana regen depends on the champions you play.
if you're playing lulu, who has really heavy mana cost, then you would master hit mana masteries.
second tier, personally i REALLY love summoner's cd and tend to master with every support. but again its a preference, so its up to you.
gold per 10 masteries are self-explanatory. as you gave up on the gold per 10 runes, the only income source comes from your gold per masteries.
50 gold+ start will help you get 2 wards w 1 pink, health regen (thresh/leona) mana regen(lulu/zyra/morgana), and 2 potions. biscuit will help a little sustain with a little mana, while 60 second ward is very good for preventing early invade.

Defense Tree:
armor/mr health are self-explanatory. 2/1 point(s) on the champion hits will help you block 5 dmg from auto hit, which you will be often harassed by adc/supports, and more dmg will be nullified if more aa stacked. 

offense on 1 helps great on killing blows as it reduces 10 armor/mr on exhaust and that is HUGE.

Core Items

    Get Wards after the items you get from the left. you could also get tons of wards before finishing your sorc boots.
    go haunting guise as you're loads of $$. i would prefer the items then wards IF you have the money to buy them. Rush HG for Zyra, seeker's OR large rod for morgana.

    go aegis-> iron solari IF the jungler is not building
    if the enemy support has it
    when your comp is full of ad
    if the enemy has deadly cc
