Summoner Spells Back to Top

Flash over ghost for the Flash>Q plays, personally I always run flash for Aatrox.

Ghost can be taken for tomfoolery in their jungle, its preference.

Marks - Flat AD/Armor Penetration

  • 6 bonus AD and 4 armor penetration.
  • 0.824 Damage multiplier against blue which is a 0.074% increase in damage dealt. Most noticeable from Blood Price procs on early game champions.

Seals - Flat Armor

  • 12.7 Armor
  • Offers 8.9% Physical Damage Reduction (Calculated with 30 starting armor)
  • This is currently the best Seal rune on anyone

Glyphs - Flat Magic Resist

  • Beats Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist until level 9.
  • Early game survivability while ganking mid is an often overlooked stat.

Quints - Movement Speed

  • Aatrox gains 15.5 movespeed at level 1.
  • Great for outmaneuvering in the jungle and essential towards being a presence on the entire map.

***
Feel free to change out MS quints for your choice, with Aatrox's broken sustain you are really freed up to do what you like with his rune setup.

Utility: 0

9/21 for the late game durability. As a jungler you will generally need to be a frontline for your team as the game progresses. Aatrox will naturally have the damage from W max with my rune setup to be a powerful ganker/assassin/diver early game so that you can start the snowball.

21/9 is definitely the most popular for damage dealing junglers right now, especially with the updated Spirit of the Lizard Elder item.

Dark Flight

  • Take this at level 2 for chase/escape/general mobility throughout the jungle.

Blood Thirst/Blood Price

  • Max this first.
  • Overpowered sustain/Dueling power.
  • Have the third strike prepared for Blood Price before a gank for powerful burst.

Blades of Torment

  • Max this second.
  • A difficult skillshot, shoot it as the enemy lands after the Dark Flight knockup to guarantee an easy slow.

Massacre

  • Badass skill name.
  • Pop this while the enemy is knocked up with Q, combo with Blades of Torment and Blade of the Ruined King [Active] for the dirty burst combo. DIRTY DURT

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Start Machete to farm jungle hard.
Go double doran's if you have trouble with Aatrox's early game.
These are the two most popular jungle items in 4.21

Core Items

These three items are your core rush. 3 Lives Aatrox OP. Boots are your choice
    Very strong Aatrox items.

Situational Items

Ninja Tabi if ADC is wrecking crew.
    Splitpush/Dueling Aatrox.
Somehow you fed on Aatrox and now you must repent.

Starting Dorans Blade is for early strength in counterjungling/ganking.

It is definitely an option to start Machete to get your Spirit item even sooner for hard jungle farming.
**With the new Conservation Stacks, a jungler is almost forced to buy a Spirit item. The Conservation passive allows you to move around the map and make plays while still generating gold until you are stalled at 80 stacks of Conservation.

I would recommend you build BotRK after your Spirit item and from there begin your Guardian Angel.

SotD is a rare item that I will build in order to diveburst onto squishy's. SotD Active->Q->Blood Price Proc->BotRK Active->E->Massacre turns you into a veritable divebomb nuclear warhead of burst damage!

In the current meta [2-7-2014 NA SoloQueue] I believe that Aatrox is stronger as a splitpusher rather than an assassin/off-tank. Ravenous Hydra is probably a safer item than BotRK if this is the style of play that you are pursuing with him.

VS

Amumu

Easy

A weak jungle dueler, try to catch him at his red after you take blue. Let him tank red until you can smite steal it, skill your Blades of Torment and kill him.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

A weak jungle dueler, try to catch him at his red after you take blue. Let him tank red until you can smite steal it, skill your Blades of Torment and kill him.

Do not get knocked up by his Rupture or his team will have time to save him and kill you.

VS

Darius

Medium

He is a strong jungle dueler. Depending on his runes and masteries he may be healthy enough after red to duel you out of your passive..

VS

Diana

Medium

Diana's shield early-game is a lifesaver. Just continue your jungle path to red after you take your own blue because she is too durable to kill quickly and escape.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium

VERY LOW HEALTH by the time he gets to his 2nd buff. Mundo will generally start red though and there isn't a bush to peak at blue safely from. If you catch him and don't immediately kill him he will kite you and you will never catch him. Infected Cleaver op.

VS

Elise

Hard

In my opinion she counter's Aatrox. A very strong dueler, great mobility, a good Rappel will ruin your Dark Flight and your passive is useless in a 1v1 situation against her.

Try to avoid this spider.

VS

Evelynn

Easy

A weak jungle dueler early, try to catch her at his red after you take blue. Let her tank red until you can smite steal it, skill your Blades of Torment and kill him.

VS

Fiora

Medium

Depends on Fiora runes, lifesteal quints will make her survive the jungle and surive you.

VS

Fizz

Medium

Don't bother trying to invade, you will never catch this Playful/Trickster.

VS

Hecarim

Easy

A weak jungle dueler early if you can land Dark Flight after he has activated his Devastating Charge, try to catch him at his red after you take blue. Let him tank red until you can smite steal it, skill your Blades of Torment and kill him.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

h0mmerd0nger

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

A weak jungle dueler as long as you catch him without Dragon Strike and Demacian Standard, try to catch him at his red after you take blue.As long as you wait for his cooldowns to be down he can't escape.  Let him tank red until you can smite steal it, skill your Blades of Torment and kill him.

VS

Jax

Medium

A weak jungle dueler as long as you catch him without Counter Strike, try to catch him at his red after you take blue.As long as you wait for his cooldowns to be down he can't escape.  Let him tank red until you can smite steal it, skill your Blades of Torment and kill him.

VS

Kha'Zix

Hard

such isolation, so burst. wow.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

If he starts Machete + 5 hp Pots he will have plenty of HP to escape you. If he has W+E he will escape, if he has Q+W and didn't kill wraiths he will Q to wraiths and escape. He will probably start red regardless. I advise you to just carry on to your own red buff after blue.

VS

Master Yi

Easy

WRECK DIS K!DDY AT RED OR BLUE ABSOLUTELY COUNTERED BY THE DARKIN BLADE YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

VS

Nasus

Medium

Cheesing Nasito Brown at his red depends on his summoners and runes. Ghost will make him hard to kill but you're basically guaranteed to blow his Ghost. Any Nasus with Flash is going to have a difficult time in the early game and is most likely trying to farm Siphoning Strike for the late-game. He will not have wither at his level 2 red so my recommendation is to try and ride on him.

VS

Nautilus

Medium

This guy's early-game survivability/damage is VICIOUS due to Titan's Wrath. If you fail to kill him immediately in his jungle then he is going to start swingin' on you and you won't be able to escape this CC machine.

VS

Nocturne

Hard

One of the classic jungle brawlers. Don't fux wit him homi. Unspeakable Horror OP.

VS

Nunu

Hard

Anyone playing jungle nunu is a Faggot. You won't catch him, he'll sustain through you by munching something, and he's most likely going to try and steal your red.

VS

Olaf

Easy

This nigga jungles at like 14hp and 90% of the time has 6.png instead of 4.png. An easy kill to pick up if you can locate him in the jungle. Late game he will be able to duel you solidly though.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

This can be a tricky guy to duel with. Cycling your moves as Pantheon in a 1v1 situation in order to maximize your passive is key and the skill of the Pantheon you are playing against is a big deal here. Do NOT let his passive block your third hit of Blood Price if you are going HAM with the damage. If this guy pops your passive then like Elise, he will probably finish you off easy.

VS

Poppy

Medium

No fun. Her passive pretty much makes you her bitch. If she catches you with that stun in the jungle early you will go down.

VS

Rammus

Medium

An easy man to cheese at red, he takes a good bit of damage from the Elder Lizard after his abilities go CD.

His lategame is outrageous so abuse him pre-6 as much as you can.

VS

Rengar

Easy

Go to his red and cheese him. There is a great chance he will go to your red and try to cheese you, the key is to not wait too long to for him.

You must know when to start to take red and when to stop waiting for some scrub to cheese.

VS

Wukong

Medium

He will outduel you ult vs ult if he has any kills. Just tread lightly..

VS

Zed

Easy

Very easy to bully in his jungle pre 6. He can ult duel you post-6 but your passive is great against him..

Jungle Tactics Back to Top

Blue Start

  • Start with Blood Price to gain attack speed through your passive.
  • Take blue smiteless.
  • If enemy jungler is weak dueler/weak sustainer then you can wait in their red brush.
  • Smite their red while they tank it, gain level 3 and wreck them for the early game cheese.

Red Start/Smiteless

  • Start with Blood Price to gain attack speed through your passive.
  • Take red smiteless.
  • Rush to your blue and take it with smite.
  • Gank mid/top, whichever is closer or less pushed.
  • If neither is an option then I recommend you farm your jungle until an opportunity appears to countergank/counterjungle.

Red Start/Level 2 Gank [RISK]

  • Start with Blood Price to gain attack speed through your passive.
  • Take red using smite.
  • Gank top or mid at level 2, if you do not burn an enemy flash or get a kill you will be set back for a very large amount of time with little gain.
  • Your mid must capitalize on this for it to be worth.

Dragon Control

  • As a jungler it is your responsibility to have a pink ward and enough hp pots to be able to capitalize on dragon when the opportunity presents itself.
  • Keep the timers and don't be a fKin baddy.
  • Do not be afraid to ult on dragon for the attack speed in order to rush it.

Aatrox Ganking Tactics Back to Top

Dark Flight

  • By showing yourself to the enemy while you're in a position to gank, they may panic and immediately use their escape like 79_64.png Body Slam or 8_64.png Sanguine Pool.
  • Be patient with Dark Flight and do not miss it because it was juked out by an escape ability.
  • ***MUST LAND DEAD CENTER FOR KNOCKUP OR U B4D***

Blood Thirst/Blood Price

  • Your Champion Buff Bar will display if you have the third strike prepared for Blood Price, try and have this ready when you move in for a gank.
  • Do not be afraid to switch onto Blood Thirst and start auto-attacking minions in order to survive if a gank goes badly.

Blades of Torment

  • A question that I am asked a lot is how to land Aatrox's E. This is a surprisingly tricky skillshot due to the unique targeting display and slow missile speed.
  • The only tip that I have is to practice, it will come with time.

Massacre

  • Great burst and a huge attackspeed boost, the earlier you pop this the more damage output you gain.
  • You may want to save it for the instant damage if you're afraid of scaring them away from a brawl.
  • Pop this while the target is airborne from Dark Flight.
  • You can use this ability to push towers when an enemy is driven from lane.
