Summoner Spells Back to Top

I prefer to run Ignite on Annie support although you may prefer Exhaust.  Annie will often be most of the damage once you decide to all in someone with a will timed stun so landing Ignite/Exhaust really tees up the kill for your partner.  Landing Ignite secures more kills with Annie, so go with Ignite.

Flash is mandatory on Annie.  Flash-Tibbers is nothing to fuck with.

I believe runes (used in conjunction with masteries) should be used to improve your champion's early game.  You want to start with the best possible edge, so you can snowball.  Annie has strong early game, strong scaling and still great late game potential.

The strategy is simple, flat early game stats, will allow you to get fed and snowball instead of relying on late game (scaling) runes to kick in later.  Its important to remember there isn't a one-size-fits-all setup for any champion, but this is my favourite setup.

Annie Armor Support Runes Stats:
3% Move Speed (or 2 Armor Quints)
16 Ability Power
8.5 Attack Damage
9   Armor (or 18 if you take 2 Armor Quints)

2 Quintessences of Move Speed: (3% MS)
These, along with your AD Reds are what give you your unique poking ability.  These two MS quints let you send punishing auto attacks frequently. This is the whole key to this guide.  THESE QUINTS ROCK.  However, I still like the Double Armor Quints setup I ran last season and I still use that page when i feel I won't be able to get away with my aggressive auto attack game (and will actually end up getting hurt in lane).  Replace with Armor Quints as Needed

1 Quintessence of Ability Power: (4.95 AP)
I prefer to take just one AP Quint because as an active support we will take some auto attacks and limiting yourself to just one AP Quint grants you a solid 16 AP when combined with 9 Flat AP Glyphs.
However, 2- 3 Flat AP Quints give Annie a lot of kick for the early levels.

9 Flat AP Glyphs: (1.19 AP x 9 = 10.71 AP)
Flat AP Glyphs are most of the AP you will need all game and they are perfect for Annie support.  These are mandatory.

9 Greater Seals of Armor: (1.00 Armor x 9 = 9 Armor)
Flat Armor Seals really are crucial in the bot lane.

9 Greater Marks of Attack Damage (0.95 AD x 9 = 8.55 AD)
OR
9 Greater Marks of Hybrid Penetration: (0.90 Armor Pen. x 9 = 8.10 Armor Pen.)
                                                                 (0.62 Magic Pen. x 9 = 5.58 Magic Pen.)
Hybrid Pen Marks open up a world of poke for Annie.  These create a decent poke from a safe range of 625.
But I prefer even harder hitting early game with 9 Greater Marks of Attack Damage (0.95 AD x 9 = 8.55 AD).
The temptation to take 9 Greater Marks of Hybrid Penetration isn't worth sacrificing your strong early game auto attack poke.

The Offense Tree is IDEAL.  Your welcome.

Offense tree aside,
I like Movement Speed so I take 3 points in Utility and put the rest in defense.
Sometimes, I use a page with the Juggernaut Mastery (instead of the MS from the Utility tree).

Support Annie
  1. Max W (Incinerate) First, it is your bread and butter instant cast AOE stun.  Take a point in W whenever possible.  (Except lvl 6)
  2. Take your R (Tibbers) whenever available.
  3. Max your Q (Disintegrate) and take your 1st point in it at lvl 2 unless you will be delaying a much needed stun in doing so (in which case save your mana and your ADC's creeps my taking Molten shield at lvl 2.
  4. Take your E (Molten Shield OP!) at lvl 2 if you don't have many stacks on pyromania otherwise take it at lvl 3 after and max it last.  I like 2 points in Molten Shield before lvl 11, but it sacrifices some damage.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Default Start for hard hitting autos. Dont upgrade Spellthief's because the gold per 5 doesn't increase.

Core Items

======= Early Game ======= ----------Sightstone---------- Sightstone is the most cost effective item...but I prefer to use regular wards until I get the Greater Stealth Totem. If you choose to build the Sightstone don't upgrade it. The main purpose of the Sightstone is it enables you to carry a sweepers lense. Skipping sightstone is choosing to forgo the sweepers lense and the gold is spent on early AP instead.
======== Mid Game======== ----------Core Items--------- *Alacrity Mobility Boots: are ideal because Annie will often initiate team fights with her CC and can benefit from the out of combat movement speed due to her stand-offish nature (when she has Pyromania active). *Oracle's Lens: your job as support is to provide vision to your team and cripple the other teams vision. you need this. *Rylai's Crystal Scepter: gives 500 hp, 80 AP and an incredible slow that syergizes well with your spells. Tibbers' aura becomes a perma-slow. Rush the Giants belt part if you need health. You may prefer to build Zhonya before Rylais depending on your game.
======== Late Game ======= ---------Luxury Items-------- *Zhonya's Hourglass: will save your life, let your run in deeper to make stuns and transform you into a significant damage dealer in the end game. *Rabadon's Deathcap: Huge 30% AP Boost, never choose this before Zonya's (zonya lets you bait like a god). Note you can control tibbers during your Zhonya. *Liandry's Torment is AMAZING with rylais. Pedobear aura becomes even more deadly.
Optional Upgrades Feel free to sell Frostfang this late
Full Build + Elixers & Oracles Lens

Situational Items

-----Alternative AP Items----- Lich bane is underrated on Annie Void Staff is situational Magic pen for targets that have stacked Magic Resistance.
------Magic Resist Items------ Choose between these two.
--------Armor Item--------- Some fed AD champ is on the other team.
Surprise! Annie Support can build AP now because shes gonna get so much gold with the support rework.

Blitzcrank

Tell your ADC to all in their ADC if you are pulled.  While you want to avoid Blitz's pull at all costs, you can counter-engage post-pull.  Stun and all in their ADC now that you are within range!  While you cannot perform this trick as well as Alistar you can pull this off too.

Consider extra Vision Wards and win the vision war!

His passive shield is deceptive unless disabled!

VS

Caitlyn

Medium

Note Caitlyn out-ranges you with a range of 650, your auto attack range is 625.  Her aa is much more fluid too.  Time your auto harass carefully.

To avoid them trading back with you at all time your auto attack harass while the enemy's auto attack is on "cool down" (that is to say they are casting an auto attack at a minion or some other target and you can attack them before they "reload").   This is especially useful against someone like Caitlyn, who has a much more fluid auto attack.

Nami

Nami is difficult too poke because of her W(Ebb and Flow) ability she can counter poke you and heal off the damage you do from a single auto attack.  Her AOE stun range is longer than your W but shorter than your max range Tibbers.  She gives her lane sustain and you do not.  So, have potions on you throughout the laning phase to avoid frequent recalls.

Just be weary of the above and proceed as usual.

VS

Quinn

Medium

VS

Sivir

Hard

i consider Sivir difficult since Annie needs to adjust her play-style to avoid Sivir absorbing the stun with her spell shield.  Try to bait her spell shield and then engage her while its on cooldown.

You can also launch a Q with 3 stacks of pyromania.  If she doesn't spell shield your Q, quickly cast E or W to make the Q proc the stun.

Sona

She can be easy too but a Sona with high AP or a chalice is a nightmare.

Matchups Back to Top

Annie support fairs pretty well against all match-ups.  Most lanes come down to vision control (and player skill and play styles). Mind the auto-attack and spell range of the enemy champions.

In any match-up just remember your short spell range and that if you are close enough to land a spell they are too.

Try not to Kill Steal (KS) the ADC, but if you do spend it wisely.

To avoid enemies trading back with you, time your auto attack harass while the enemy's auto attack is on "cool down" (that is to say they are actively casting an auto attack at a minion or some other target and you can attack them before they "reload").   This is especially useful against someone like Caitlyn, who has a much more fluid auto-attack.

Abuse your auto-attack 625 range.  Try Mixed Pen Reds or Flat Dmg Reds!

Peel for your ADC!

Early Game Tips Back to Top

Remind People In queue who you are (Annie Support w/ Ignite)!

How to make good use of early time and mana:
  1. Cast W (get a stack of Pyromania)
  2. Buy Your Starting Items (1 Pink Ward, 3 Green Wards & 3 Pots)
  3. Cast W (get a 2nd stack of Pyromania)
  4. Leave the well with full mana towards wherever you are scouting
  5. Cast W (get a 3rd stack of Pyromania)
  6. Wait to cast your next W if you are leashing a buff
  7. If you start Blue side (bot right base)  ward the Tribush at 1:55 / Purple side ward the dragon at 1:50
  8. Enter the lane with a charged stun and nearly full mana
For Invasions always bring a fully charged W stun.

Zone people with the threat of pyromania and endless auto attacks.  Your 1.25 sec stun is long, but not the full 1.75 sec of level 11. Pyromania's great peel and hard cc.  With MS quints you can be quite the bully.

Setup a bush with a pink ward for you to camp out.

If you blow your stun early you might consider leveling your Molten Shield (E) at lvl 2 so that you can quickly get your stun back up without losing tons of mana or stealing your companion's cs.  You are useless early without the threat of a stun.

When Tibbers is up mirco him to harass enemies, tank appropriate threats, provide vision and scout around.
Tibbers' aura continuously procs Rylai's!

Teammates can Teleport to Tibbers!

Always Max W first, And Upgrade Tibbers whenever possible.  2 points in your Molten Shield are nice before level 11.

Your job is primarily to support your ADC with wards and engage all in to tee up kills.  Levels 1-9 you will be doing most of the damage during an engage.

Mid Game and Late Game Tips Back to Top

Engage team fights with a Flash to a stun imbued Tibbers.   Flash-Tibbers isn't anything to fuck with.

Roam with Alacrity upgrade Mobility boots with Oracle's Lens warding the map!

Alacrity upgrade Mobility boots help you catch people with your stuns and to disengage yourself.

Tibbers can be used as a part time Ohmwrecker with his huge HP (1200 / 2100 /3000).  Let him tank turrets strategically.

When Annie is tanking a turret shot use your Molten Shield!   Molten Shield OP!

Tibbers can tank dragon for your you and your weak ally.  He makes impossible things possible.
