Summoner Spells Back to Top

When playing support, the spells should be always the same.

4.png Flash is always required as zilean, as he only has his speedup which he should use to save his adc from ganks.

3.png Exhaust is also support trademark spell, it can shutdown one single enemy carry for couple of seconds which grants precious time to zilean's teammates to beat them.

Viable options:

7.png If your adc takes barrier or some other spell instead of heal, this one can be considered viable. Know that windspeakers makes this spell stronger + grants windspeakers armor Mr boost.

14.pngIf your up against lane with strong sustain, this might be decent option.

6.pngGhost got recently buffed, since it has greatly lower cooldown and grants more MS to you, it can be a decent pick over flash.

Runes Back to Top

  • 9x

Zilean has really good AP-ratios on his bombs and on his ult, which is why taking pure AP from runes are generally good option. He is however naturally squishy, and might even get focused at after some successful ults which is when the defensive runes might come in handy. Zilean has long auto attacks, which means hybrid penetration is also great choise, as it increases both bomb damage and auto attacks.

//Alternative Runes

Alternatively its possible to take armor reds and maybe even yellow healths on hard lanes if you dont wanna die against some Ignite tryhard thresh.

AP per level blues are a great alternative for flat ap blues since you cant buy much ap items, only downside to them is the fact that you got a bit less bomb damage on early game.

RESOLVE

These are the typical Zilean masteries, usually your ordinary support page works but when it comes to keystones there are 2 good choises. Thunderlords makes your trading and harassing stronger, you can proc it often due to your long auto attack range. However if you are really skilled at timing your ultimate, you can take windspeakers instead. It makes your ultimate alot stronger and gives some stats when your teammate revives. I prefer windspeakers myself, supp zilean doesnt get much AP due to low gold income so this mastery + athenes is enough to your get revive heal strong enough. Here are some statistics:

Thunderlord%27s_Decree_mastery_2016.pngThunderlords DecreeThunderlord's_Decree_mastery_2016.png

+Stronger early game.
+A small bit of more damage on poke and trades.
-Scales off on midgame already since you wont deal any damage.
-Recommended for newer Zil players.

Windspeaker%27s_Blessing_mastery_2016.pnWindspeakers blessingWindspeaker's_Blessing_mastery_2016.png

+10% More healing on your ultimate.
+Extra resistances when your teammate comes back to life.
+The extra healing is very noticeable on all stages of the game.
+Extra healing boosts athenes too.
+Locket is fantastic item with this mastery, windspeakers makes locket shields stronger + grants those extra stats.
+Redemption is also fantastic with this mastery. That item's healing increases w/ windspeakers and grants tank stats.
-Requires you to land your ultimates just right.
-I can only really recommend this if you are really good at landing those ultimates right, since this mastery is pretty pointless if you miss ult all the time.
-Kind of a high risk, high reward keystone.

Deathfire_Touch_mastery_2016.pngDeathfire TouchDeathfire_Touch_mastery_2016.png

-It's really bad, i dont recommend it. As a support, your not gonna get much AP, thus it wont do any damage. On top of that your bombs grant only 2 second burn, TLD is just superior when compared to this. TLD also scales better to mid-lategame.

//Alternative masteries
You can take recovery mastery if you are fighting against Zyra or other extremely annoying poke support. Tough skin is also viable since your gonna draw minion aggro when harassing enemies with your autos.

Q: Always start with one point on this ability to apply early pressure to the lane, and max it last.

W: You should rank this ability next, when this ability gets maxed you can spam stunbombs and rootlike slows onto enemy carries, thus making you really strong CC bot.

E: This is the best slow and speedup ability in the whole game and it has more than zillion uses, its really good disengager, engager and lifesaver, you should always rank this ability first.

R: The best ult in the whole game, this thing has a modest 108 cooldown on early and only 33 second cooldown on late when you got 45% cooldown.

Why Max E over Q?

Some of my fellow Zilean players recommend maxing Q even on support role for more harassing power and longer stun, i highly disagree with them. While having a stronger stun is certainly nice, maxing your Q makes you push your lane even harder in case if you fail to land your bombs, or if your opponents know to use them in order to push the lane for them. Maxing unwind next instead of Q makes sure that you can stunbomb and slow more often, making you able to stun for longer time than using maxed Q and having to wait half a year for unwind to come back.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Still viable start. If you are up against tank support, you can take it. Auto as much as you can but dont get caught.
Great for newer players or if facing a poke lane. Zil's bombs tend to be challenging to land and if it doesnt land on enemy botlaners, it might hit to minions and thus push the lane. With this you dont have to care about poking too often since you get money while doing nothing. Recent buff added 5% cooldown to coin and 10% cooldown to nomads, i always start with this since it grants some early cooldown which is required to spam more abilities on early game. (Recommended Gold Item)
Refillable is great if you started with Coin since AC grants you HP back when enemy minions die, thus already giving you some form of sustain. HP pots are allright if facing a really painful poke lane like Zyra Cait.

Core Items

Choose one eye item depending on which one you started, get ionian boots and fiendish codex and then start building towards athenes.
These are generally your core items. You need to reach that 45% Cooldown reduction.
Sell ionian boots onto one of these if you get another CDR item, as long as you keep that 45% cdr on you.
Athenes doesnt give much AP when compared to morello, i recommend to get rabadons after athenes to greatly boost your AP. Alternatively if your on fire, you can get mejais instead.
I've been experimenting this item by starting coin instead, i can recommend taking it. Your mostly gonna stay with your adc or other teammates which means that you can take full advantage of this item's money generation, on top of that it gives more money anyways. Also grants really helpful regenation on HP and Mana.
Simply godlike item, super cheap too. It greatly increases your ultimate healing while granting really good mana & health regen and other great stats. It also stacks with windspeakers and forbidden idol items.
Next up, you gotta choose the rest of your build from these situational items. I recommend taking tank items after you got around 300 AP, that makes your ulty heal 600 HP more which is generally enough to get the job done.
Always get this at level 9, since pink wards are now removed and control wards cant reveal invisible enemies, this is your only hope against Talons and Shacos on teamfights. If enemy team doesnt have invisibility effect abusing champs and your team already has someone with oracles, you can get blue trinket to put more wards on the map.
4th item choises. If you are winning, you can buy rabadons to greatly increase your bomb damage + ult heal. If you are fighting alot, you can instead buy redemption. If you are losing and up against splitting teamcomp, buy zzrot, it grants really good resistances and that active allows you to halt enemy minions from pushing.

Situational Items

Makes Zil's bombs hurt like hell. Zilean is spamming his spells on late game all the time which means this item will be active most of the time, it also grants more movement speed.
Sometimes zil gets focused at fights on late game due to his gamechanging ultimate, that's when this item comes in handy.
If you got no deaths or really few of them and lots of assists, you can take this badboy. Enemies cant killean zilean which means you will rarely lose your stacks. Newest change to this item grants a nice 10% MS speed boost if you got 15 stacks, really nice stat on zil who already breaks the sound barrier on daily basis. If you die and you end up with less than 5 stacks, sell it.
New locket is extremely good right now. If your team needs survivability, take it. Banner is pretty shitty right now, you should get ZZrot instead since you can place it during your speedy E roams.
You can keep constant pressure on bot or top by putting this underneath your outer or inner tower, which results in the lane getting pushed constantly. Your opponents cant destroy it unless they are gonna destroy that tower anyways.
Great item overall. All stats it provides are put to good use by you.
Underrated and situational, but not to be underestimated. Grants some great tankstats and having that 60% slow helps at peeling for yourself. More of a defensive item.
If the enemy team has atleast 3 auto attack reliant champs.
Some tank items you can get.
Buffed. Makes your ult heal 20% stronger, has only 120 sec cooldown and no longer has that annoying travel time.
New athenes replaced this item as your main core item, it still can be considered if the enemy team has swain, mundo or soraka.
Kind of a risk item, it has an aura which makes all nearby enemies take more magic damage. Zilean shouldnt be in the middle of a teamfight. I can recommend it if enemy team has good divers which can just push through your frontlines, and if you have mosty AP on your team.
A decent item overall. Its semiglobal active allows you to make long range heals, however the stats it grants are pretty mediocre. That 10% extra healing power makes your ult stronger atleast.
If you made it to late game and you got full build already, sell your eye item to ruby sightstone. This item grants alot more HP + really helpful item cooldown reduction. Only if you have atleast one active item.

Early Game:

Zilean has a mediocre early game, on early you should bomb enemy champions to put some early pressure and AA whenever its safe to do so. Thats literally all there is to say, just stay safe and early game will be over soon.

Remember to keep the key objects warded, like dragon and possibly enemy blue buff.

Mid Game:

Your midgame starts as soon as you hit 6, this is the point when you get your powerspike and its only going to get better from that point. Depending on how your lane is going, you can start roaming to help your mid to get easy kill by slowing enemy laner and stunning him/her, using the ult if neccessary. However if your having hard lane, just stay on your lane and protect the adc until your jungle comes to gank.

During midgame there might be small skirmishes occuring, during this time you should know who you should ult. Generally, you should ult your adc, however there is some exceptions, for example if your fed midlaner about to die at skirmish, do not hesitate to save him, as he will put out much more damage than your adc.

Late Game:

This is where Zilean should be gamechanging, at this point you got decent amount of AP and your ults heal your teammates to almost full health. You can roam really fast with your E, thus warding objectives and saving teammates which has been catched off guard. You should stay with your team mostly, you can become a 30 second GA to your most fed teammate. Since your bombs are on low cooldown, you can go splitting if needed. Just make sure you get to teamfights in time.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Aatrox is sometimes played as a jungle, he can sometimes do a surprise jump out of bush which is why the best way to counter him is to have wards at tribush and at the river, dont over push if you dont have wards, if he jumps at you or your adc, there is not much you can do on early game except QWQ combo and a speedup at your carry.

VS

Alistar

Easy

You can poke him freely, dont stick close to your adc, or else he can headbutt pulverize both of you. He has the potential to make plays pre-6 which can lose you the lane, but once you hit 6 your most likely gonna win this matchup. Be very careful pre-6 when pushing to his tower since he can 4.pngpulverize.pngheadbutt.pngyou onto his tower.

VS

Amumu

Medium

Similar with aatrox, except this guy has more cc. If he lands his Q, you will be in troubles. Do not over-extend without wards, if you do you should stay behind your adc and put bombs onto bushes from time to time to check if he is around.

VS

Annie

Medium

Fuck this champion. Early game you need to be careful at poking if she has stun up, as she can catch you off position which might mean death to you. Poke with care, at level 6 you need to stay as far as possible from your adc, if she stun tibbers you, you both might die. However if she stuns your adc only, you can still save the adc.

VS

Ashe

Medium

Ashe is easy one to poke during laning phase, however when teamfights are about to start, things will get harder. Zilean usually is at frontlines before teamfights trying to catch opponents off guard, if ashe lands ult on zil, you might lose a teamfight because that would mean 3.5 seconds of not ulting anyone including yourself.

VS

Bard

Easy

No longer Eh, he is actually on a very good spot.

He can sustain your poke, if he tries to land that stun thing to you, slow him and stun, giving your adc a chance to iniate on him. Experienced bard is a bit more challenging to play against, they usually take ignite and they tend to know when their stun is going to land right. Do not trade autos with him since he will just throw his babies at you, just poke him from range and try to all in him.

VS

Blitzcrank

Medium

Can be anything between easy and hard, good blitz can make things hard. If he hooks your adc, you can still save him with stun and speedup. If he lands you, you might get bursted to death. Keep the lane bushes warded and respect them if you know blitz is there. If he fails his hook you can auto as much as you please. He is very squishy too for a tank, if your jungler comes for a gank your combo on him most likely means on him burning summs or death.

Tl dr; He fails hook, easy lane. He lands it, you lose.

(More information available on dealing with tanky supports section)

VS

Brand

Hard

Somewhat rare matchup, his harass is godlike. He has both burst damage and sustain damage, i recommend getting ancient coin and play passive until you get 6, then you can maybe pick him out of position with your slow. I think he is a bit easier than Zyra, since his stun is pretty situational, you can catch him on bad position with your slow and then all in.

VS

Braum

Medium

He is really tanky, he eats bombs for breakfast. Try to poke the adc but make sure your not getting Q'd by him. He can force trades by using W on his minions, then Qing and autoing to get his passive stun done, he usually does this by jumping from a bush so keeping those bushes warded is ideal.  His level 6 powerspike is also massive, him leaping to a minion and then ulting is just painful to deal with. Only way to counter this is by keeping some distance from your carry and boosting him as soon as he leaps onto a minion.

(More information available on dealing with tanky supports section)

VS

Caitlyn

Hard

She is obnoxious to play against, she has superior range and good poke. Try to poke her support. If you got ult, you can try to bait her ult by being on good distance and on low health.

She is a really good counter against your ultimate, if your teammate is doing the revive animation, she can just place a trap at them and they are insta rooted when they come back to life.

VS

Camille

Hard

Camille is ocassionally played on jungle role and even on support role since her kit is so overloaded. She is undoubtetly a hard matchup to play against, she is really mobile which makes it harder to stun and slow her, and her ultimate is superior version of J4's ult. There is no way to escape from it if she targets you with it, you can't even flash away.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

VS

Corki

Medium

He is safe laner against zilean, he has really good escape and at lvl 6 he has pretty good poke with his ult. Try to play around his cooldowns, his carpetbomb.png has a very long CD.

VS

Diana

Medium

She becomes dangerous at level 6, she will most likely dash at your adc which means that you can still save the adc, if he dashes you, then you will most likely lose the fight unless your flash is up. If your enemies have strong crowd control support like leona, thresh or morgana, you should never push too far without wards if she is their jungler or mid.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

Lol, who plays this guy on jungle anymore.

if he ganks you, you can just slow him, his W can however reduce your slow's duration.

VS

Draven

Medium

He has really strong auto attacks, but he lacks of mobility. You can easily predict where he is about to move with his bouncing axes, put bombs to where the axes are about to drop. He becomes medium-hard depending on his support, leona or lulu for example will make this lane super hard for you, maxinum amount of cc and his damage means death most likely.

VS

Ekko

Medium

Ocassionally seen as a jungler, he is very mobile. Dont try to bomb him if his E is up, he will just dodge it. Instead, wait for him to dash onto you or your carry and then use QWQ.

VS

Elise

Medium

She has high mobility, if she ganks, just speedboost your  adc. She has really strong early so be careful. She fells of late really hard.

VS

Evelynn

Hard

The unseen Evelynn is the deadliest. You should be behind your adc at all times and ready to speedboost him if your lane pushes, ask your adc and other teammates to buy pinks. If you spot her somewhere else on the map you can force trades with enemy bot without fear of her clawing at your back. Try to inform your adc not to push the lane.

VS

Ezreal

Medium

He has pretty good poke and strong mobility, basicly same thing with corki except with global ultimate. Play around his ezrealarcaneshift.png cooldown.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Medium

He has some strong ganks, you can counter him pre-6 with your speed, but if he does the ult out of nowhere and has the brain to fear you first, its GG WP.

VS

Fizz

Medium

AP fizz's burst can be hard to predict, you should use your ult on teammate who got ulted by him when the teammate has about 10-30% health left depending on how fed he is. He is super slippery, making it hard to stun him, just avoid fighting him and speedboost your teammates to fight him instead.

VS

Galio

Easy

Lol. I am just purely theorycrafting this, he can have somewhat strong early damage but if he pokes often, he is going oom. He cant ult you due to your strong slow unless he flashes.

VS

Gragas

Medium

Not often seen on Support role, but possible to see on rare ocassions, mostly on jungler but its basicly the same thing. He has decent crowd control abilities and lane sustain on, best bet is probably to poke his carry first. When he gets his ulty he can 4.pnggragasbodyslam.png gragasexplosivecask.pngonto you or your carry and then ult the victim onto bad spot, this combo takes quite a bit of skill, so watch out if that gragas has tier 5-7 mastery since its the sign of a skilled Grag player.

VS

Graves

Easy

Technically considered more like ranged bruiser now, graves is  close and personal kind of carry now. He has low range making it easy for you to harass him, just know that he can avoid your stun combo with his dash. He is more often seen on jungler now, he is mostly just damage oriented thus he really lacks CC on ganks.

VS

Hecarim

Easy

Heca likes to go fast, you can make him hate all bearded Gandalf wannabes by slowing him when he tries to iniate. When he hits 6 his ganks become more dangerous since he gets a huge gapcloser with fear clued to it. As usual just ward well after 6.

VS

Ivern

Easy

(Testing required)

I am purely theorycrafting this as usual. His Q is his only really scary move, if he lands it right he can use his shield explosion to CC you for really long time. His ultimate is also menacing, a tibbers with 3 hit passive knockup. You can thankfully check his bushes with your bombs. As usual you outscale him in utility, if you slow him down he has no escapes.

VS

Janna

Medium

Awfully boring lane, she just blocks your bombs with her shield. At 6 she can just ult to remove you from E QWQing her carry. Your gonna need a tanky CC heavy jungler to beat her. Early, try to play around her shield cooldown.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

Has high mobility, a dash and dangerous ult. Keep your bushes warded.

VS

Jax

Easy

Speedboost the adc if he tries to iniate, stay away from him or else he might leap.

VS

Jhin

Easy

Unmobile as hell, you can easily slow him and stun him. He has some really good poke and CC on him though, he can be dangerous with poke/tanky all in support.

tl;dr avoid his and his support autos, E QWQ E him when he tries to harass with his 4th shot.

VS

Jinx

Easy

Low mobility adc, slow her, stun her and murder her when she gets off position or if she is alone on lane.

VS

Kalista

Medium

Really mobile, makes landing bombs really hard. Slow her first before bombing her since your slow makes her leap shorter distances.

VS

Karma

Hard

Zilean suffers from lacklusterish early game, karma support will make the early game even worse for him. She can just shield her carry, and on duels her karmachakra.pngkarmasoulshield.png combo shield is just retardedly strong. You will outscale her when you get your ultimate, unless if opponent bot is far too ahead.

Tl:dr; Early game is probably going to be painful, laning phase might feel like an eternity, but if you get out of that on one piece she can no longer hold you from reaching zilgod mode.

VS

Kayle

Easy

She is unmobile, and your slow range is just huge, you can easily just E QWQ her if she tries to harass using her kayleE.png.

VS

Kennen

Medium

He is annoying on both support and ADC role. He outpokes you and has a huge powerspike when he gets his ulty. However i havent played against neither supp or adc Kennen in a long time, i will update this as soon as i get to play against one.

VS

Kha'Zix

Medium

Can be a real hassle, thankfully he lacks hard CC so you can just speedup your carry or yourself if he surprises you by leaping from fog of war. His leap is his scariest move, but it has a very long CD. You can easily slow stun him when its on cooldown.

VS

Kindred

Easy

Generally really easy one. She doesnt have much mobility, you can just slow her if she tries to gank.

VS

Kog'Maw

Easy

Probably the easiest carry to play against, has low range when his kogmawbioarcanebarrage.png is on cooldown and is awfully unmobile, he is dead as soon as you land your slow.

VS

LeBlanc

Hard
7.pngShe is extremely unpredictable, she can just dash at your low HP teammates and drop her double leblancchaosorb.png combo to burst them down. I recommend getting 3190.png since it can block a good bit of her damage and give you time to ult her target.

VS

Lee Sin

Hard

Kind of average pre-6 but when he gets his ulty he can be really devastating if he ward Ws behind you and ults. You can try to speedup your adc to send him to better position and stun him with bomb combo. If you fail that bomb combo, you are in trouble.

VS

Leona

Medium

Hard all in lane, but still winnable depending on the enemy adc. Dont let her zenith blade you or your screwed. If she zenith blades your adc, speedup the adc and stun her adc. At level 6 stay behind your adc, if she goes all in go on and focus her adc and prepare to ult your ad carry.

This matchup is skill dependent, it can be difficult for someone new to Zilean to play against since playing against her requires you to handle the stun bomb combo.

(More information available on dealing with tanky supports section)

VS

Lucian

Medium

He dashes alot, making landing the full bomb combo hard. Outside his dash, he can be dealt well.

VS

Lulu

Hard

Good lulu will make your life hell, focus on being on perfectly safe position and dont poke unless its safe to do so. She has much stronger slow on early which can result in you giving first blood to her carry. Thankfully your ultimate is better than hers and you outscale better to mid late.

In a nutchell, avoid trading autos since she outdamages you due to her passive, do NOT over extend after she hits 6, since she can pin you down with E Q for 2 seconds. Your slow outscales her Whimsy speedboost.

VS

Lux

Easy

Ocassionally seen on support role, she is squishy, her shield is really weak. She does have some very good poke on her. Your speedup makes it easy to dodge her binds, and her burst is very predictable and easily countered by your ult.

VS

Malphite

Easy

Easy to poke at and bully around, when he hits 6 dont be too close to your adc, otherwise you might not be able to save him.

(More information available on dealing with tanky supports section)

VS

Malzahar

Hard

Oh god, this fucking guy is now a pretty common Support pick.

His annoying passive blocks your slows, he can be dealt before he gets his ult but after that, he can be a real pain in the ass. You are an easy kill for him and his laner if he supresses you since that CC is so damn long (2.5 seconds), but if he ults your carry, you need to auto him to proc his passive spellshield and then QWQ him. Your speedups allow you to stay away from his voidling swarm.

Avoid trading with him on all stages of the game, his voidlings outdamage any carry on early-mid game and his ult is gonna destroy you if he supresses you on bad spot. You will scale better in utility.

VS

Maokai

Medium

Same thing with jax, dont let him root at you, easy to counter on jungle role but medium if facing support Treebeard. Rarely seen on support role, he works similarly with Leona. Since you use your bombs often to harass enemies, his passive is going to be up often and thus his autos sometimes heal him. His iniations are also strong if he successfully lands his point and click root, so i recommend keeping your distance from him.

He does lack the early damage, so you can try to all in his carry with bomb combo if he goes ham. You outscale him on mid late game if his adc doesnt get ahead.

(More information available on dealing with tanky supports section)

VS

Master Yi

Medium

Pre-6 countered with slows, when he gets ult he becomes so fast that even the power of time itself cannot stop him.

VS

Miss Fortune

Medium

Same as Jinx and kog. She does have some really annoying harass due to her missfortunericochetshot.png, try not to stay close to your low HP minions.

Since Support MF is starting to be a thing now, i am now updating this matchup. Support MF is generally paired with Jhin or Ashe, when she is with one of those this matchup is easily hard difficulty. This lane is pure all in and tons of damage which is Zil's weakness, they can easily cheese out kills on early game too. I recommend playing super carefully on early game and asking for ganks. She and her Ashe or Jhin are both really unmobile, thus you can pretty much quarantee a kill.

VS

Mordekaiser

Easy

Extremely unmobile, you can beat him with ease. Requires multiple points on E however.

VS

Morgana

Medium

You counter her kit decently, speedup your adc if she is about to bind or use her ult, speedup makes it easy to dodge her roots too. Stunning her or her carry might be harder since her black shield just blocks it, since your slow is casted as soon as you click it on opponent she cant block that unless she has some godlike prediction skills.

VS

Nami

Medium

Strong poke and sustain and cc, at some cases her ult cant be avoided. Poke her early to make her waste her small manapool on her heal. She is awfully unmobile, and she tries to poke with her autos often. You can E QWQ her on that ocassion with ease. She can be a real pain in the ass if she is paired with high CC ADC like Ashe or Jhin. On those cases i recommend playing around her Q cooldowns.

VS

Nasus

Easy

VS

Nautilus

Hard

Almost same thing with leona. He just blocks your poke with his powerful shield and he has some mobility too due to his nautilusanchordrag.png. You generally outscale him in utility when you get your ult. Thankfully he is not often seen on support role anymore. When his Q is on cooldown he is unmobile, you can slow and stun him to force him take some free damage.

(More information available on dealing with tanky supports section)

VS

Nidalee

Medium

On support, she has a strong spearnuke. Usually nida supports dont buy sightstones because they are forced to support, so abuse this well. She is also played as jungler, however she can be countered decently with E. Her damage output is really high and she tends to gank early, just keep your wards up and try to save mana for speedboosting your carry to safety.

VS

Nocturne

Hard

DAAAARKNEEESSS

Early game he only has his flash E combo which can be dealt with pretty easily due to your speedup, but shit gets real as soon as he gets his ult. Generally when you have no vision of him, try to stay behind your carry and be ready to speedup him/her. If enemy bot has good engagers, play super safe after 6 because this guy can just go where-ever he pleases with his ult. To make things harder is that he can block your stun with his spellshield, but he cant really block your slow since its instacast unless he has some godlike prediction.

VS

Nunu

Easy

Same thing with any other jungler who relies at walking at the lane when ganking. Support Nunu is a definition of useless, he can be pinned down and killed with ease.

VS

Olaf

Medium

Same thing with master Yi, maybe even worse than him since his ult also blocks your stuns.

VS

Orianna

Medium

Orianna support can be either easy or medium depending her playstyle,

Easy Ori is the one who pokes strongly at early, effectively making her to run out of mana. She needs to get closer to you to poke, which is when you can slow her down and stun her.

Then there's medium utility Ori, she plays relatively passive by maxing E and W, shielding all the damage and making her adc really tanky. She can also help the junglers pretty well be shielding them from long range and granting them speed boost. Not much you can do on this lane since she is gonna be behind her carry like some sort of Cyborg Janna.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

He can be countered with E pre-6, however he shits on every lane at level 6.

VS

Poppy

Easy

She used to be a common support pick after her rework but multiple nerf hammer hits made her a pretty pathetic support. Her E range is really small now, you can poke her with ease. You can predict where she is gonna move due to her passive. She becomes really hard to gank due to her really good disengage ultimate.

VS

Quinn

Easy

She is more like a jungler/top laner now but can be seen on adc on very rare ocassions. You can bully her around with your bombs and autos. If quinn is on jungle or mid, things get more complicated. Her ultimate grants her really powerful speedup which makes her really good at roaming and ganking. Keep your wards up and you should be fine.

VS

Rammus

Easy

Easier version of Heca, you can make him look so miserable by slowing him when he uses his powerball.png.

VS

Rek'Sai

Medium

Rek'sai who tunnels from unexpected location can be hard for you, however if she tunnels from expected location she can be countered with slow. You can counter her by placing wards on places where she might try to burrow at you.

VS

Rengar

Medium

At 6 his gank damage is devastating. On teamfights its wise to keep a slot dedicated for pink wards, drop it whenever you see that ! mark from hell.

VS

Rumble

Easy

VS

Sejuani

Medium

pre-6 she is easy, when she gets ult she can catch you off guard. Dont be so close to your adc, otherwise the ult explosion will freeze both of you.

VS

Shaco

Hard

He is an early game god, he can gank really well and he has great damage on him. If the enemy bot has good iniator as a support or carry with good CC you might just wanna play passive on early game, since he can just appear behind you using his bullshit stealth, he can be thankfully dealt on lategame with your ulty. Get yourself oracles and activate it at teamfights so you can see who he is going to backstab and ult the target, he is not excatly able to one shot so your team is gonna have plenty of time to destroy him when you safeguard his target with your ult.

Once in a year during bloodmoon you might encounter a Support Shaco. Shaco on support role has unrivaled bush control due to his jackinthebox.png but he is heavily reliant on them, he cant poke and go all in without you or your carry stumbling onto his lootbox. He is potentially a very scary threat if he has a premade agressive adc with him and because they tend to have exh and ignite summoners, making them have a very cheesy but scary early all in threat. He basicly has his early game, after that your gonna wreck him with your ulty.

VS

Shen

Easy

Seen on Support and Jungle role ocassionally, can be dealt well with your slows.

VS

Shyvana

Easy

She is not a threat, even when she uses her low range ult.

VS

Sion

Medium

A bit better than shyvana, pre 6 he is not a threat, when he gets that ult things will get worse. Whenever you hear that ult voice, position yourself for an escape and speedup your adc.

VS

Sivir

Hard

Sivir will never run out of mana on this lane, she abuses your every bomb. You cant stun her, but you can slow her at ganks. Play around her spellshield cooldown.

VS

Sona

Hard

She has some really annoying harass, and she can negate your bomb damage well with her heal shields. She is however super vulnerable, if you caught her off position with E QWQ E combo, she is going to have to flash or pay with her life.

She is very similar with karma, laning phase is usually as painful as spinal tap but if you manage to survive you will outscale her.

VS

Soraka

Hard

She will be annoying to play against, she will heal all your bombs. She forces you to play passive. Dont use your bombs often unless your absolutely sure you can land them on her since they will push the lane and eventually give the enemy jungler an opportunity to gank.

VS

Tahm Kench

Easy

Not really difficult, if he eats his adc, just slow him down and stun him with your E QWQ E combo. Easy to harass both him and his carry.

(More information available on dealing with tanky supports section)

VS

Talon

Hard

Assassin rework made him really good. He can roam with ease with his E and pink wards are removed, he can no longer be revealed when he ults. Just get oracles on teamfights and use em when he ults, and get locket to block some of his dmg.

VS

Taric

Easy

On paper it doesnt seem like too hard of a lane, your speedup makes it easy to dodge his slow stun.

(More information available on dealing with tanky supports section)

VS

Thresh

Medium

Goes between medium and hard, good thresh will make your life hell. Basically, you got no room to get hooked before he hits 6, pre 6 you can just flash away if he flings at you. Stay behind minions and play passive, ocassionally bomb him and speed boost the adc when he tries to get a closer look. You outscale him on mid late with your utility and due to his unmobileness he can be caught easily with your E QWQ combo.

(More information available on dealing with tanky supports section)

VS

Tristana

Medium

Almost same with corki, a little bit harder since she is bursty and thus it can be difficult to predict when she is going to ult. When her E is at its last stacks, that's probably when you should use your ult since that E explosion + ult combo is bonkers strong.

VS

Trundle

Easy

I played against one once, he is really easy if you avoid getting caught by his frozen Dong.

(More information available on dealing with tanky supports section)

VS

Twitch

Easy

Same as any other unmobile adc.

VS

Urgot

Easy

Adc urgot is easy one to bully around because of his low range, however he will bully your adc really hard and there is nothing you can do about it. Best bet is to abuse his low range by E QWQing him on bad position and then trying to go all in.

VS

Varus

Medium

He suffers from low mobility, however he has really strong poke on him. He gets noticeable powerspike when he gets his ult, at that point you need to keep your distance from your carry and save your exhaust. Use your exh at him when your carry revives.

VS

Vayne

Easy

She has low range on her, you can harass her well on laning phase with your longer autos and bombs. Only thing you need to watch out for his her Tumble, on skirmishes she can dodge bombs with it.

VS

Veigar

Easy

Rarely seen on support role, try to avoid his spells since they give him free AP. He is super squishy and Q harass is somewhat low ranged which gives you the opportunity to E QWQ him. His stun is very powerful at forcing trades and it gets only worse if he maxes this ability, at max rank this stun lasts 2.5 seconds. His burst however is very predictable.

VS

Vel'Koz

Medium
Cant Killean Zilean

Real talk, he is medium-hard. If your getting camped by J4, amumu or malhpite, his ult can wreck both of you down. His harassing power is also superior when compared to yours but he lacks on utility, he has also very long range on his harass which makes it tougher to iniate on him with your slows.

VS

Vi

Medium

Strong CC and engager, you need to hope that she focuses your adc.

VS

Volibear

Easy

You can make him look miserable when he tries to run at you by slowing him. He is slightly more dangerous on support role, if he successfully charges from an unwarded bush your slow might not be enough to stop him.

VS

Warwick

Hard

His rework turned him into horrifying ganker. He can now gank pre-6 with ease due to his W passive and E fear. His ult is now a skillshot with scales with his movement speed.

VS

Wukong

Medium

Keep the bushes warded, he might stealth at you and ult.

VS

Xin Zhao

Easy

Kinda same with jax.

VS

Zac

Hard

Worst possible jungler to play against, he can leap from fog of war and his ult can separate you from your adc. He also has strong damage.

VS

Ziggs

Medium

VS

Zilean

Hard

If you face another zilean, remember to make a joke about time paradox.

VS

Zyra

Hard

She has some really strong damage for a support, and unfortunately for everyone, she is starting to show up on support role again. This is a skill based matchup, both you and Zyra got the abilities to kill each other depending on which one gets caught first.

She is super squishy so E QWQ on her with your carry following up results in her death for sure. On the other hand, if she roots you on bad position your also probably gonna die too. At 6 you can try to all in her by catching her off position and releasing your kit at her.

Generally you got the upper hand when playing against Zyra, you can provide some incredible gank setup with your CC. Since she has no mobility, she is an easy pray if your jungler or mid laner comes for a visit.

tl:dr; Catch her off guard and she cant fight back, if she catches you with root you are probably dead.

Zilean' pros and cons Back to Top

Heightened_Learning.jpgPros Heightened_Learning.jpg

Extremely rewarding to play
Gamechanging if you know how to play him
Never banned if your looking to do ranked
Long auto attack range
Great AP ratios
Counters Assassins really well
Strong teamfighter
Strong at setting up Ganks
He has godlike peel due to his 99% speedup and AOE stun which can stun the whole enemy team.
Great at picking lone targets
Unknown, people dont know how to play against you
Ridiculous 99% Point and click slow
Most likely the most gamechanging ultimate with lowest possible Cooldown.
Can secure objectives by permaslowing enemy junglers
Has the best, spammable laugh

Chronoblast.pngConsChronoblast.png

Has no sustain
Weak VS Early all in champs
Has a very high skillcap
Has only one Damage Ability which is somewhat hard to land right, which can make this catastrophically bad on unskilled hands.
Since we wont be maxing Q first, your not gonna deal any damage even if you land those bombs.
Has some early mana issues
His bombs can steal his adc's farm and thus push the lane, smart opponents might use this as their advantage to steal your carry's CS and push the lane.
Requires good positioning, if enemy CCs you, you are probably going to die.
Requires you to time your ults perfectly.
You might become key target after some sucessful ults (global taunt)
"Pick real support, zil is midlaner and trash"

Ability explanations Back to Top

Time in bottle (Passive)
Heightened_Learning.jpg

Zilean generates 2 / 3.5 / 5 / 6 / 12 experience every 5 seconds, which does not advance his own level. When he has enough to level up an allied champion and is out of combat in the last 10 seconds, he can right-click them to initiate a 1 second channel, after which he grants them enough experience to finish their level. Zilean receives the same amount. If the channel is interrupted, Time in a Bottle goes on cooldown for 2 seconds. Time in a Bottle starts the game on cooldown.

Woo boy, this is one hell of a passive. You can gift your teammates some free experience to rank them to next level ocassionally, if used correctly you can get your ADC to get important powerspike levels sooner (Lvl 3,6), since it also grants the same amount of experience to yourself too your gonna get more experience than other supports.

Tips:

  • Save level ups for your carry when he is about to get a noticeable powerspike on next level, like using it to rank Lucian or Ashe to level 6.

Timebomb (Q):
Time_Bomb.jpg

Zilean throws a ticking time bomb to a target location that detonates after 3 seconds, dealing magic damage in a 330-radius area. If the bomb lands within 100-units of a unit or a unit moves within range while the bomb is on the ground, it will attach to them and will detonate from their current position at the end of its lifetime.

If a bomb is placed on a unit already holding a bomb, the first will detonate immediately, also stunning all enemies in range for a brief duration.

Zilean's only damage ability, its no longer as hard to land as it used to be, but its still somewhat hard to pull off right since its an AOE skillshot. If your good at Karthus or Nami, you can get the hang of it pretty fast.

Pros:
AOE Stun which gets longer as you rank it.
Huge AP scaling. (0.90)
When ranked first, it can make Zilean extremely annoying lane bully.

Stun can turn the tides of a teamfight.
You can spam your QWQ combo constantly on lategame when you got max cooldown and W is fully maxed.
Bombs grant temporary vision, making it great for checking bushes.

Cons
Requires you to land the bomb onto the same target who already has a bomb on them, which is pretty challenging.

Can sometimes steal farm from your adc and thus push the lane.

Rewind (W)
Rewind.jpg

Zilean reduces the cooldowns of time bomb and time warp  by 10 seconds.

This is what makes Zilean truely unique when compared to other mages, he can rewind to make him able to cast his abilities again. I rank this ability 2nd because it lets you spam your stuns and slow/Ms steroids more.

Pros:
Has 4 sec cooldown on lategame with 40% cooldown reduction, 3.6 with that cdr mastery.
Really spammable, only costs 35 mana to use on all ranks.

Time ward (E)
Time_Warp.jpg

Zilean bends time around a champion, slowing an enemy or hastening an ally by an amount for 2.5 seconds.

This is the best slow/movement speed steroid in the entire damn game. It starts with moderate 40%, but it gets stronger as you rank it, eventually ending up to gamechanging 99% at max rank, which is the part when your enemies will start calling you a speedhacker. You can use it to catch enemy carries off position, when they are slowed by this, you can easily land your stun at them, which is when your team can iniate and which gives you and upper hand at teamfight. You can also use it to speedup your high-cc teammates/iniators to iniate, enemies will have little time to react when malphite with 650 movement speed appears from fog of war.

Pros:
Simply the best slow in the game, only thing which is somewhat at the same level is thresh's ult, except this ability can be casted to last 5 flopping seconds.
Can be used to land your stun easier.
Has more than zillean amount of uses (heh)
You can become a Jesus to your teammates by reviving them and then granting them 99% speedup thus making them able to run away from the entire enemy team, unless they got strong hard cc.

Some ways to use this ability:
-You can use it to position your adc better during laning phase or Teamfight, for example if enemy jungler comes to gank, this ability will allow them to run to safety.
-You can use it as an engage tool, for example you can use it to make your team's iniator to position themselves perfectly to use their ults.
-You can use it to root lonely rangers, if you spot a lonely enemy champ and you got some teammates with you, this will force them to flash away or die, sometimes flash does not even save them unless they flash over the wall.
-If enemy laner's partner has recalled and other has decided to farm a bit more, you can slow and stun him with ease, which will either result in the enemy flashing away, or giving your adc a free kill.
-During teamfights you can make your adc uncatchable kitemachine.
-literally no counter play, you can flash E to root them for a decade.

Chromoshift (R)
Chrono_Shift.jpg

Zilean places a protective time rune on an allied champion for 5 seconds.

If the target takes lethal damage during that time, they will be placed in stasis, making them untargetable and invulnerable. After 2 seconds, the target is revived with a set amount of health.

This is the best damn ult in the game. If you use it on right person during a teamfight, it can result in your team winning the game. It has pretty low cooldown during mid-late game, it means that you will have it almost always up during skirmishes and teamfights. Landing this thing perfectly however will take some time and practise, if you use this ability too early, enemies might notice the glowy hourglasses and ignore the ulted teammate, if you use it too late, your teammate will die. Its generally much better to use it a bit too early than missing the ult completely.

Pros:

Gamebreaking if you know who you need to ult.
One of the best AP scalings in the game (200%), only Nunu's ultimate has higher scaling (250%)
Even if enemies notice and ignore the ulted teammate, it will grant them 5 seconds of pseudo-invincibility, giving them 5 seconds to kill the enemies.
Makes your teammates love you, your enemies in the other hand will hope that you would have ended up in their team.

Cons:
Soloque adcs, really commonly you will be matched with adcs who have no idea how zilean support works, which is why they will flash heal when they got low health even though you ulted them.
Highly visible particles, they are much harder to notice when teamfight has started.
If you misclick this ability, you might lose skirmish or teamfight.

The revive particles and sounds are the same with guardian angel which is a complete lack of potential, thankfully bloodmoon zilean has some badass recolor and new sound files on his ult.

Tips:
Generally best teammate to ult is your adc, however if your team has another carry who is super fed, you should use it at them instead, for example your mid laner.
If you are catched off guard and enemies just swarm at you, do not hesitate to use it at yourself. You can most likely even get away with it by burning flash and then giving 99% speed at yourself.

Really Important Tip When dealing with Soloque Adcs. Back to Top

Like i mentioned on Zilean's pros and Cons, Zilean is the outcast of supports, thus both your opponents nor your teammates know what you do, even though they might have a general image on what your abilities do. Most notably when dealing with carries who are unfamiliar with zilean, they tend to use their flashes or heals even though you just ulted them some seconds-microseconds ago. This is the thing that tilts me the most when playing Zilean, and thus i am making this section to this guide.

When the game starts, tell your adc to spare their sums when your ultimate is ready for use, that your gonna ult them just seconds before they die. When they revive with flash and heal up, they are going to have a major upper hand on 2v2 fights. Of course on soloque players tend to doubt their teammates and thus forming a bond of trust may not always happen, but when it does you can just dominate your bot lane and possibly get a honour of two more often. If you got level 5-7 tier mastery on Zilean, it usually makes them trust on your ulting skills.

Zilean Synergies Back to Top

Adc Synergies:

Challenger Tier:

119_64.png
Draaaaaaaven lacks of mobility and he needs CC to get kills, zilean has everything draven could ask for, MS steroid, hard cc, incredible slow and a showstopper ultimate.

115.pngSo much explosions. He is safe, and his poke pairs well with yours. On top of that, your massive slow makes it easy for him to lay his CC-abilities onto unmobile opponents. Speedup allows him to stay safe from assassins. Unfortunately, opponents can buy MMR to negate his d amage, this also reducesyour bomb damage aswell.

67_64.pngYou are both lategame monsters, so early game might be hard for you two, however things will get better at mid game when you hit 6 and its all going to get better from that point.

96_64.png
This one must be my favourite pair to play with, kogmaw is rarely seen now due to his high risk high reward gameplay, however zilean offers everything Kog could ask for, cc, mobility and revive. Jungle Kog is also ocassionally taken, and he is just as good on jungling if your playing Zilsta.

202.png
Fanciest laner around, he is much like Varus and Ashe, really unmobile but you help him to see the world. His reload can be the end of him most of the time but your ulty will help him to get a second chance.

Noticeably dangerous-tier

22_64.png
Ashe's slows make it easier for you to land your bomb combo, when she ults, you can unleash a devastating cc train by doing the bomb combo at the ulted target. Zilean's speedup also helps her to escape from ganks.

110.png
Very similar with Ashe.

6_64.png
Urgot and Zilean lane are going to be the most annoying thing in existence, Urgot is very unmobile which is when zilean hits the scene. Zil can slow enemies to make it easier for urgot to land his grenades, and he can speedup him to make him land them possibly even securing a kill.

51_64.png
Cait is super dangerous if one of the bot laners leave to base, you can slowdown the lonely one and stun him/her, then cait puts trap on their feet, and even if they do get away, she can use her ult to finish off the enemy.

133_64.png
Her strong dueling potential + your crowd control will make for a strong lane. She gets a massive MS steroid whenever she uses her ult, combined with your time warp she can just break the sound barrier.

21.png
Her rework made her alot better ADC to pair with, you can keep enemies on her ult zone with you strong cc. You both have some really good poke too.

236.png
You can force trades with him on early game, you scale really well to late.

29_64.pngVery strong late game scaling champion, early game might be rough but you will get over it and destroy them.

Good- Tier

18.pngYou got a pretty decent synergy, your slows make sure that enemies are forced to take her autos while she has her detonatingshot.png on target enemy. Remember to RP on all chat how your proud of your grand daughter, bombing people like dear ol' grandpa.

15_64.pngYour E and Her ult make her fast as fuck. She also can protect herself from hard cc with her shield, so you two are going to be really safe partners. Her low range is kind of troubling though.

429.pngI dont really like Kalista Zil combo, but its potentially very strong too. You get more CC due to her ult, and your slow makes sure she can just put spears more on people. Also she is impossible to reach due to your speedup.

222_64.pngZil's slow + her chompers kind of synergize well together, thats about it. You can protect her well, but i honestly think vayne is just better.

81.pngYou got a really nice poke together, safest laning partner with zil. If your premade with someone and your trying to learn Zil, ask your premader to pick Ez.

Not on the Same page - Tier

104.pngBasicly no longer considered to be an adc. I will update this if i get to play with one.

Jungler Synergies

72_64.png LOL this guy is the best jungler to have on your team. Give him 99% speedup and he will charge lightspeed onto enemy team and carry their carries right at you.

106_64.pngKinda like skarner, except he gets to run even faster, really good ganker when Zilean is on support role. You can either slowdown enemy to stop them from fleeing, or speedup this crazy cocaine bear.

33_64.png^ Quite same with voli.

77_64.pngMakes him run really fast with bear stance, really good ganks.

107_64.png When this guy uses his ult, E him to make him run from your spawnpool to enemy spawnpool. Seriously, he runs like Usain Bolt, too bad the opponents cant see it.

62_64.png When he uses his clone invincibility move, you can speedup him to make him get to the enemy team unnoticed and then use the ROFLcopter ultimate.

120_64.pngHeca gets more damage from extra movement speed, which means 99% more movement = tons of damage.

113.pngDevasting. Your speedup allows her to get to good position where she can throw her ultimate to enemies.

Top Lane Synergies

54.png Giving malphite 99% speedup means that he can surprise iniate really well, giving enemies not much time to scatter around to avoid his ult.

14.pngSion has difficulties sticking onto enemies, your high CC abilities and speedup makes it easier for him to channel his Q as well as allowing him to stick onto enemy carries. Even if he dies for reals, you can still speedup him on his zombie mode.

122.pngDarius is very unmobile but he really likes to just wreck people up with his high damage. His only playmaking combo is his well known flash apprehend, but with your speedup he can dive at carries and iniate fights with his apprehend. Even if he is mortally wounded, you can just ult him to allow his bloodbath to continue. One of the best toplaners with Zilean.

92.pngPretty much the same thing with Darius.

27.pngReally funny combo. They can never catch timewarped Singed. You can speedboost him and send him to opponent team to fling carries at you.

50.pngYour speedup allows him to charge at the middle of enemy team with his ult on. Even if he dies and you revive him, his ult still deals damage to nearby enemies.

23.pngHe can stick onto carries and melt their faces off with his crits due to your speedup.

75.pngNasus is known for being countered with kiting. timewarp.png Says otherwise.

150.pngMega Gnar is very unmobile, but your speedup makes it really easy for him to make big plays with his crowd control abilities.

Midlane Synergies

91.pngSimply terrifying synergy, when he ults your 99% speedup allows him to get to their carries really fast. Since you can slow opponents for 5 seconds, he gets full advantage if his passive which increases all his damage by 10%.

85.pngKennen's kennenlightningrush.pngkennenshurikenstorm.png combo and your speedup allows him to iniate teamfights. Even if he is about to die on his iniation, your ult brings him back to full health. I think his ultimate remains on even during the revive animation which makes things even better.

3.pngSimply godly. Galio has difficulties getting onto his enemies to use his ult, well your time warp and his E makes him flying to them to get those 5 man taunts. Building talisman or rightious glory is a great way to get couple of laughs and cheesy iniations.

1.pngFlash tibbers is a well known iniation move on league, with your timewarp she no longer needs her flash to do iniations.

55.pngShe deals tons of damage but tends to be blown to bits by enemy CC. When their ccs are used on her, she has a possibility to wreck them when she gets back onto the fight.

69.pngShe is basicly AP marksman on midlane, she becomes impossible to reach due to your speedup and your high CC.

Dealing with Tanky all in supports Back to Top

Like i stated on this guide's Pros and Cons, Zilean is vulnerable on all in, he recovers from it fast when he gets his ult and some points on his E. On this section i am talking on how to deal with those pesky tanky supports on early game to avoid the ultimate disaster.

Keep the lane bushes warded, many of those tanky supports like to abuse lack of vision by iniating from lane bushes, sometimes they are just staying on those bushes just to apply lane pressure and to deny CS from opponent carry. Your bombs give temporary vision on bushes, making it safe to check bushes.

Play around their cooldowns. If opponent Leona or Thresh use their threshq.png leonazenithblade.png and miss, they are helpless against your harassing.

Tanks usually dont have heals on their kit except their precious 3302.png, any damage you can inflict usually sticks to them.

Tanks are usually really good at setting up ganks, keep the tribush and the river area in front of dragon pit warded to make it harder for enemy jungler to gank.

If your playing on blueside, you can put a pink on tribush, you can defend it agressively with your bombs and autos. Either the enemy tank is forced to attack it 4 times and get good couple of hits or his carry is gonna take it out and miss CS.

Advanced Zilean Tips and Tricks Back to Top

Securing Objectives With Zilean

Zilean's slow has many uses, and here's an example of a situation where it truly shines. Your at a dragon with your jungler and adc, you have warded enemy blue buff and nearby river bush expecting enemy reksai to come steal it, and then she moves past your ward. You move at her and spam your slow and stun at her, with your low cd on your  W,  you can spam that 99% on her continuously, giving your team enough time to take out dragon and then come to execute reksai from her misery. Basicly any jungler who relies on just walking at objectives can be dealt the same way.

The art of catching keytargets

If you have maxed up your abilities as i've told, when one of your bot enemy laners recall, the one who still decides to farm will generally not know about the power of your slow. This only works if you got atleast 2 ranks at your slow and the opponent is not on turret range lacks of escape ability on their kit.

First you should slow the enemy laner, then use QWQ combo at them, then slow and exhaust them, this will most likely end up on the opponent burning flash, exhaust, heal but most of the times it will result in a kill.

After-revive Bomb Peel Tactic

If you ult a teammate which is surrounded by enemy members, you can try to do this rather difficult trick in order to save them. When the death animation has been on about 2-3 seconds, you need to QWQ stun as many members as possible, if you pull this right they will be stunned while your teammate revives, possibly giving them time to start moving, if possible throw an E at them as long as your not gonna get caught yourself.

Had to use that old gem once more. Serious talk, Zilean's E is instant cast, it means that as soon as you click your slow on an enemy, they are slowed instantly. If you have atleast 3 ranks on your time warp, you can flash E to massively slow key targets and then proceed with QWQ combo. I recommend to try keep count on enemy flash timer, if they flash away you are probably in deep troubles, but if you manage to pull this trick off they are unable to do anything for a very long period of time, granting your team some time to go ham at stunned enemy.

Literally no counter play and barely any time for them to react.

Patch notes (Patch 6.22) Back to Top

6.22 preseason patch

Zilean recieved a couple of strong stealth buffs. Most notably athenes and eye of the oasis cost less gold to build. Aegis and items it builds onto lost their iconic MR aura but they grant a good bit of armor to their wearer. Locket shield is now stronger which is a great buff to all windspeaker supports. This new support item "redemption" seems like an interesting item, but i believe its mostly gonna be a decent situational item for Zilean.

Buffs:
2302.png3174.png3222.png Are now cheaper.

3222.png20% Stronger healing on your ulty, lower cooldown, no longer has travel time.

3107.pngNew item, really strong.

3190.png Now grants much stronger shield. grants tank stats to you.

Nerfs:
3105.png3190.png3060.pngLost their MR aura.

3060.pngNo longer grants AP, ZZRot is now superior pick.

Ending Credits Back to Top

Hello, i am Dumbledore Bot, a Diamond 5 EUNE support main (climbed myself this far by playing windspeakers Zil only). Zilean used to be my brains free-champ to pick on blind picks, however that changed drastically when they reworked his kit. My specialties are odd off meta supports, favourites are 10.png98.png4.png61.png

When i first tried out Zil on S4, i did not like his kit. It was simple but at the same time it felt somewhat outdated and more suited on mid. However, after i saw a couple of videos about him on youtube, i decided to give him couple of more tries and oh baby how well those games went. Here are those inspiring vids, i am still watching them ocassionally and knowing that i made a right choise to give him more tries.
