Summoner Spells Back to Top

Personally, I think your only options for summoner spell with Jarvan are Flash and Smite,  you can trade Flash for Exhaust if you like having even stronger ganks, but less mobility.

11.png-If your jungling you need smite, it makes your clear times faster, helps you secure/steal buffs, dragon, baron.

4.png-A very powerful mobily spell, gives you another gap closer, another way to get out of your ult, allows you do have a stupid momments from time to time and survive it! Has a use in offense- flash to the enemy carry for your combo and defense- do flash over a wall and get away.

3.png-A strong CC and debuff, helps your ganks become even more potent, makes you very strong in 1v1's and let's you shut down enemy carries late game.

Runes Back to Top

  • 9x
+0.95 attack damage Greater Mark of Attack Damage
  • 9x
+0.16 magic resist per level Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
  • 9x
+1 armor Greater Seal of Armor
  • 3x
+2.25 attack damage Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage

My runes for Jarvan, in season 2 they used to give both +10AD and +10 Armor pen with this page. Still good tho, gives you everything you need- killing power in the jungle and vs other champions, armor for safer jungling and Mr for fighting  casters  late game.

*Started using Full AD reds and Quints since they nerfed the ad/armorpen mix page

*A mix of AD and AS reds work well to now- since the extra true damage from machete is really strong

For masteries I go 9/21/0 getting some CDR, AD  in offense, then putting 21 points in defense and becoming a shield for my team, getting masteries that help my tank champions as well as jungle monsters.

I you feel like being a even more macho tank with more utility and less dmg you can go 0/21/9- getting things like:  Cdr, move speed and longer buff duration.

Grab E first, it's your main jungling tool- AoE Dmg and a passive AS and Armor bonus, take Q at lvl2 for more AoE and an armor shred. Take a point in w when you wish to gank (lvl3 or 4). Max Q then E take a point in W early and put more points in to it if you feel the need for a stronger slow/shield. Of couse take your ult at lvl 6,11 and 16.

*Some tips for every skill

Passive-Your passive is a nice boost in damage, if you can, try to hit as many different targets with it as possible.

Q-Use it mostly with your E, but you can also poke with it and wave clear (Q then E works best, if it is too dangerous to dash in)

W-It's a nice AoE slow, don't forget you can use it over walls(like Phreak did in the spotlight) and also remember that it's a decent shield that might just save you from things like that evil 30_icon_64.png Ult.

E-Aside from being part of your signature move you can also you this skill to scout out the enemy team.

R-You can use this to stop your foes and then just Combo out of it, leaving them trapped.

*E used to be the skill to max first but this season it's all about the damage early

Situational Items

Helps you out vs AD heavy teams
When your fighting a lot of casters
    Helps against mixed damage
    Offensive options
    Utility options
Best boots for you Tabi- vs AD Treads- vs AP or CC
Find that boots of mobility work very well now, if they don't have strong CC or if you plan to get tenacity from Spirit of the Ancient Golem
    The usual tank build
The (not so) Usual DMG Build
The Usual Build if you get rocked hard early game (aka support build)

Jarvan is a champion that has a lot of options, when it comes to his build-he can go full tank, pure damage,

sub-support or tanky-dps bruiser. So there are a lot of good items for him.

2045_32.png-Helps you and your support ward up the map, Vision is Power.

3078_32.png-Gives you many stats, lets you do Tons of Damage.

3031_32.png-If you think the best defense is offense even the IE can work..

3156_32.png-Gives you MR and a shield, helps you deal with mages like 30_icon_64.png

3143_32.png-A strong item that lets you counter AS reliant teams (jungle72_icon_64.png, top5_icon_64.png, ad carry67_icon_64.png) or just a AD carry that is getting out of control.

3190_32.png-A item that gives you a good and strong mix of tank stats +AURA.

3153_32.png-Offensive option with a good active

Remember your build should always change- always look at the enemy team, maybe the is an item that counters them all? Or maybe only one of them is doing well and you can just buy items vs him. Then look at your team- what does it need? More of a dmg dealer or a tank?

The only thing you should be certain is that your build will start with a Hunter Machete 1039_32.png and that in the end you will have boots as one of your six items.

VS

Aatrox

Medium

He can decent clear time and sustain, better damge and ganks, the passive helps him out early game also

VS

Alistar

Easy

Jungle ali got killed by the new jungle.. The only thing you have to worry is his early ganks. Then again if you find him in the jungle you can probably kill him.. if his team does not react in time

VS

Amumu

Medium

Amumu's weakness is that he needs the first blue.. but can live without it.

His greatest strength- late game: the CC, the %dmg and so on..  try to end games fast and/or make him fall behind early

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

He's fast, has a lot of CC and is very tanky

VS

Darius

Medium

Not that fast, but he can take and deal lots of damage

VS

Diana

Easy

Fast and has good damage, but her ganks are not the best and her utilityand impact are low if you get the best off her early

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

He might be fast, but he has a hard time escaping you since most Mundo players run smite and exhaust

VS

Elise

Medium

Fast, sustained, good damge and utility.. she has almost everything

VS

Evelynn

Medium

Her damage is really high and he's fast, has an easy time snowballing

VS

Fiddlesticks

Medium

He's on the slower side, but gets faster with lvls and items. Thats why he's weakest early game, that's why you should try to invade, maybe steal his blue.

P.S. use your cc to stop his ult...

VS

Gangplank

Easy

Not the same pirate he was season 1, now he can barely jungle- he's slow and gets really low + he can't cleanse you knock up or ult

VS

Hecarim

Medium

Like amumu- he's slow and quite weak early, but very strong late game and also he snowballs like a mother******.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

VS

Jax

Medium

Just don't underestimate him, he's a better jungler than people give him credit for

VS

Kayle

Easy

She can get strong, she clears fast and she can also go support-ish

VS

Kha'Zix

Easy

Better laner than jungler, he just can't get the gold to insta-kill someone unless he has a godly early game, but he's very easy to kill early also

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

His mobility matches yours, but you have to remember that he is stronger early and you are stronger later

VS

Malphite

Easy

Slow, but tanky and has lots of utility from his slow, as reduction and ult

VS

Maokai

Medium

CC and tanky, has alot of utility, very strong early

VS

Master Yi

Medium

He's fast and has very good damage, if he gets a few kills early he can go into carry mode

VS

Nasus

Medium

Strong all game long, gets alot off free stats- lifesteal from passive, damage from Q, negative gold for you-W, armor Pen from E, Hp and damage from R. Things you should know- he is quite happy to just farm since he will become a god sooner or later in late game and also he % damg from his ult allows some early dragons and barons

VS

Nautilus

Medium

Even more CC than you and also an extremely tanky fellow. Don't be surprised by his W damage early-mid game if you let him just wack you over and over

VS

Nocturne

Medium

Has very high damage and kill your mates quick if he snowballs so try to stop him

VS

Nunu

Medium

He can be a real pain, but just try to keep your buffs in check and call for your teammates help when he invades you

VS

Olaf

Easy

He's strong early and if he's ahead. But your just his best counter

VS

Pantheon

Easy

Understand that he does not jungle- he just ganks, if he can't get kills early he will be crushed

VS

Rammus

Easy

His ganks are good- speed and a 3sec taunt. But he has no sustain and clears very slow

VS

Rengar

Easy

He can become a monster, but he needs to get alot of kills to do that- keep him down

VS

Sejuani

Medium

Very like Jarvan- CC and mobility

VS

Shaco

Easy

**** this guy. He is no longer the monster he once was, but still annoying to deal with- he will try to make plays early, if that fails he is close to useless

VS

Shen

Easy

Very slow, very little damage, but he can just farm the jungle all day when he gets his ult and counter gank with it, also he's quite tanky and his dash is very useful both for CC'ing and escaping

VS

Shyvana

Hard

She's fast, strong and probably hunting you down... might not have the CC to keep you in place, but death is the best CC of them all and her damage is great at applying it

VS

Skarner

Medium

Don't underestimate his damage if he gets you in his perma-slow you will die fast. HE is also fast- both clearing and moving so be on the look out

VS

Trundle

Medium

Don't 1v1 him.. he's very tanky and he hurts. If you are the only tank in your team his ult will make it so that your team has no tank at all

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

He might have some mobility and decent damage, but it will take him longer to reach carry status with jungle gold and the rng crits in early jungle clearing can really hurt him for you

VS

Udyr

Hard

He might not have a way to escape your ult, but damn is he fast and strong in the jungle-he can counter jungle or just kill you if you allow him to..

VS

Vi

Easy

VS

Volibear

Medium

Tanky, fast and hurts. Be careful when you are low hp or he might just bite your face off with his W. Not only can he stop your E+Q if he's fast enough, he can also fling you out off your own ult..

VS

Warwick

Easy

He's quite slow and also he can't do much before lvl6, but when he gets his ult try to stop it whenever you can with your E+Q

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium

He is very well rounded- has damage, tankiness, utility. Like Jarvan- he isvery versatile.

VS

Zac

Medium

Similar to Jarvan he has good CC and mobility. The max hp dmg from his W lets him do decent damage with no offence items. Try not to commit yourself too much in killing him early game if his passive is up

VS

Zed

Easy

A better laner than jungler. He can't get the gold he needs to insta-kill someone, unless he gets a few kills early- just try to keep him down, but remember he is not easy to catch

The Jungle Basics Back to Top

  •  Starting items: 1039_32.png the machete with some 2003_32.pnghp pots probably are the choice, since the extra damage helps you clear faster and the pots give you the sustain you lack.
  • Take your E first because the free stats it gives helps you jungle.
  • Jungle routes:
  1. Blue/Red(Smite)->Wolfs/Wraiths->Red/Blue(Smite)

Also every jungler should know Jungle Timers:
Blue Buff - 5 Minutes (Spawns at 1:55)
Red Buff - 5 Minutes (Spawns at 1:55)
     Dragon - 6 Minutes
     Baron - 7 Minutes

Ganking Back to Top

When it comes to ganking you can do a lot of work, whether it be a early lvl2 gank or the Standard  lvl4 double buff gank you are the jungler that the enemy should look out for.

Let's say your lvl6+, enjoying your red buff you see the enemy pushing and you know that they have no wards- this is the time when your gank are strongest:

   The optimal gank would be:

You to just walk up to them and start applying red buff's slow. (Try not to start a gank with you combo)

If the enemy starts fighting you use your shield and slow them even more. (The slows will let you stick to them and do good dmg with your AA's and your teams help)

They should just panic and flash/use there escape. (This is what you should wait for)

That's when you use your E->Q combo to close the gap and start slowing them again while also knocking them up,allowing for your teammates to catch up.

By this point hopefully they will  be forced to use their second escape(if they have it).

If the enemy is to tanky/you don't have the dmg to finish his off/your teammate was sleeping, just be happy you forced a flash or did some good dmg- still helping out your ally.

You can back off and wait for them to come back, since most people think- ''Oh he just ganked me, there is no way he will be back here again and I need that cs''

Then you should come back and do everything oven again. Ult if you know their flash is on cd or you just need that extra dmg/gap closer to finish the enemy off.

So basically just walk in, slow, use E->Q if they start getting away-the most basic gank.

*Will add a video of ganking demo's soon

 -Strong and Manly Jungler

-Has a lot of cc and utility

- Low mana pool early

Friends and Foes Back to Top

Friends -the champions that have good synergy with jarvan mostly are people with powerful AoE abilities because you can trap enemies in their spells:

9_icon_64.png32_icon_64.png30_icon_64.png85_icon_64.png25_icon_64.png41_icon_64.png

Also champions that can help him put when ganking early (strong CC or Dmg):

24_icon_64.png122_icon_64.png107_icon_64.png12_icon_64.png58_icon_64.png13_icon_64.png

Ranged Champions make good use of your ability to trap enemies and defend them while they use their ranged basic attacks or abilities to murder the opponents that can't fight back

67_icon_64.png104_icon_64.png61_icon_64.png81_icon_64.png6_icon_64.png42_icon_64.png

Foes- champions that give Jarvan a hard time would be strong jungler/counter jungler, that can either take his jungle or hunt down and kill him:

64_icon_64.png77_icon_64.png102_icon_64.png5_icon_64.png72_icon_64.png

Champions with flash like skill can be a pain to play against also:

98_icon_64.png81_icon_64.png42_icon_64.png103_icon_64.png105_icon_64.png

*Champions with strong Aoes can be both strong friends and strong foes since a poor ult can trap you and your team (remember that you can cancel it)

Conclusion Back to Top

Jarvan is a very fun and and strong jungler, he has potent ganks, with a lot of mobility, utility and forms of cc, he can be build as a true tank, bruiser or even a glass canon.

He counters picks such a Olaf, Vlad, Morgana and other hard to gank, cc immune champions.

Has a very strong team fight presence, his biggest weakness is his poor mid-game (if hes not doing well) and somewhat slow jungling speed with no sustain apart from pots.

But still he's one of the most manly champions in the game, shouts Demacia!
