Summoner Spells Back to Top

Teleport and Flash are my standard summoner spells.

12.pngTeleport allows me to recall for items when necessary and get back to lane in a flash without losing time for farm. It also sets up for nice ganks to follow up on an ult, or maybe even splitpushing or base racing.

4.pngFlash is helpful on every champion, so there really is no need for me to explain this. Flash lets you either get out of sticky situations, or maybe to surprise your opponent.

Nothing much to be said here. These are pretty standard AP mid runes from what I understand.

The wall should be taken at 4 because the jungler will not be ganking before that point unless they are being risky, and you shouldn't be trying to go in for a kill that early either.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Situational Items

First items

Starting off with Sapphire Crystal1027_32.png and a few pots2003_32.png allows you to start with more mana, and you can farm easier and stay in lane until around level 4-6. At this point where you either run out of mana or die to a gank, you get the Tear of the Goddess3070_32.png. Depending on your farm, you should have enough gold to get Tear, Boots1001_32.png, and Flask2041_32.png. If you can't get flask, a couple pots and a ward or two is advisable.

Revisit the shop

Next time or you visit the shop, you should standardly grab a Catalyst3010_32.png, and get a Blasting Wand1026_32.png as soon as possible so you can actually start to have damage. With the wand, you generally want to upgrade to Rod of Ages3027_32.png to start its stacking. After another Blasting Wand, you need to finish the Archangels Staff3003_32.png, which will turn your massive mana pool into considerable ability power(With a RoA+AA, the passive on Archangels should give around 70 ap). After your Archangels is stacked fully, it turns into Sereph's Embrace3040_32.png which adds an active to the item which drains some mana to create a sheild. This is great for engaging, as you will soak up a lot more damage then the enemy may realize.

The next step is to upgrade the boots accordingly. If you have a hard lane opponent with cc, Mercury's Treads3111_32.png would be good to get. If you are winning the lane and want to win harder, Sorcerer's Shoes3020_32.png will help penetrate your foes.

What now?
Now you need to get some serious amounts of Ability Power and get a Rabadon's Deathcap3089_32.png, which will multiply your AP from Archangels. Liandry's Torment3151_32.png gives a little health, AP, and penetration. This item also makes your abilities burn the foe for percentage damage, making it a scary item for your enemies, especially tanks.

Zhonya's Hourglass3157_32.png is usually obtained, as it lets you do a bunch of damage without taking any for a short period of time. Seeker's Armguard gives you small amounts of AP and Armor for each minion kill up to a static amount. This is good to get at first if you find yourself laning against an Attack Damage assassin like Zed238_icon_64.png or Talon91_icon_64.png

What about these items?
3135_32.png Void Staff gives you Magic Penetration and lets you do a lot more damage with Requiem, and your abilities in general. This would be good if you want to build glass canon and do tons of damage. It also helps your abilities do damage to enemy tanks who have build magic resist.
3041_32.png At any point where you feel that you are obliterating the enemy team without dying much yourself, getting a Mejais Soulstealer is a good choice. Should you feel later that your stacks are going down too much to be worth it, it can easily be sold for another item.
3001_32.png Abyssal Scepter gives Magic Resist and reduces the enemy's magic resist. This is good if most of the enemy deals magic damage, and also helps your defile and lay waste do more damage in a teamfight.
2041_32.png is good if you find yourself getting poked and buying a lot of pots. It lets you stop worrying about buying pots, and just refreshes when you go to the shop automatically.

VS

Ahri

Medium

If you can dodge her skillshots, things should be fine.

VS

Anivia

Medium

If Anivia is passive, you can easily win the lane by being more aggressive then her.

However, an aggressive Anivia is very dangerous, and she can do massive damage using her q as a nuke. She can zone you from farming, and it becomes a very hard lane to be in.

VS

Annie

Medium

While her stun and burst can be deadly, she has short range, so just q cautiously, and you can prevent forest fires.

If the enemy jungler is involved, this can be deadly, so use precaution.

VS

Brand

Hard

Brand's stun and burst is maddening.

VS

Elise

Easy

From what I have experienced, which isnt much, Elise is not a huge threat for Karthus. Her spiders are unavoidable unless you lure them into minions to explode, but they shouldn't do much damage at all early game.

VS

Fizz

Hard

Fizz is op. He can towerdive you and easily live.

If you don't dodge his ult, you are dead. Don't count on doing damage to him while you are dead, because he will flip away out of range.

VS

Gragas

Hard

A good Gragas can use his extreme poke with barrels and then ult for a free kill.

There will be no farming. Only death.

VS

Kassadin

Hard

His warps and abilities are deadly.

VS

Katarina

Medium

Just don't feed her. Please. Please don't.

Play passively, and don't go past river. She can't kill you there, and will be forced either to farm or gank other lanes. Try to call MIAs when possible.

I usually win all my games against a Katarina because I do more damage in teamfights then she does.

VS

Lux

Medium

If you get caught in a snare, she can do incredible burst. Dodging them shouldn't be too difficult, just stay a safe distance and have good reflexes.

VS

Morgana

Hard

If she can get a snare on you, her pool can do a bunch of damage to you.

Try to dodge, cause if you don't, you will either die or have to recall and sacrifice your tower.

VS

Orianna

Medium

Just stay passive under your tower farming and Orianna will get annoyed with you.

VS

Teemo

Easy

Teemo is a joke

VS

Twisted Fate

Medium

Just keep moving around while farming and you should be able to dodge his triple card throw.

VS

Viktor

Easy

Viktor's laser is easily avoidable when you learn the pattern. Without that, he has no damage, and you can feel free to burst him with q's

How to win as Karthus Back to Top

Early game:

-Farm until the point where you run out of mana, which should be around level 4-5 if you took a mana crystal to start with. If your jungler gave you blue buff, you might can last until level 6, at which point you can use your ultimate.
-Get into your opponent's head. Learn whether they are passive or aggressive. Try to land a few q's on them if possible to check their responsiveness.
-Once you have your ult, maintain good map awareness. Check other lanes to see when fights are happening, and if it looks like they will win, throw down an ult(make sure you are behind your turret so your enemy laner doesn't take advantage of you standing there singing). Just make sure they aren't in a position to kill the enemy before your ult even lands. This will be embarrassing as you just wasted the main part of your kit for almost 3 minutes.

Mid game:

-Keep farming, but stay safe, not going past river if possible. Karthus does not have a good escape, and even a flash and a wall of pain will not save you from most ganks. If the minion wave is past river, feel free to take your wraiths while you wait.
-Outplay your opponent. Learn their skillshot patterns and dodge them. Make sure to call MIA when they are gone, and there isn't a good reason why they would have recalled. Mid laners like to gank a lot when you are playing a passive Karthus. You are unreachable, so they get their thrills somewhere else.
-Keep up your map awareness. At this point, your ult does even more damage, and can make a big difference in a fight. If your team is up for it, you can even use your ult to start a fight in another lane while giving them the advantage.

Late game:

-Here comes the teamfights. Everybody will be flocking over to your lane, stealing your farm. Hopefully, you farmed up enough before it came to this point.(just kidding, you will most likely venture over to other lanes and take out waves of minions in seconds)
-Do not poke the enemy with your q's unless your whole team is fighting. If you lag even a bit, or the enemy throws a stun, you will die, and the classic ulting while dead will not do anything at the start of a fight, so don't even try it unless you think your team will engage anyways.
-If you can get in a 1v1 with somebody who isn't fed, you will most likely win. With a wall of pain to shred the enemy's MR, your q's will melt them. Just hope they don't call for backup.
-If there is a good 5v5, your e, w, and q spamming should bring the enemy down enough to make your ult get a multi-kill.
