Summoner Spells Back to Top

12.png - Gives Elise the freedom to farm top, push and bully her lane, then tele in on a ward for a gank from the brush or an easy map objective. After maxing your W, you should be able to take out any map objective quickly.

14.png - I run ignite vs high sustain / healing laners. I'll take 12.png over ignite most of the time for better map control. Elise has an easy time killing people that have low health, so by using your E in spider form more effectively, you should be able to get another Q on someone that is in kill range regardless of flash.

4.png - Flash is a must have for Elise. It can boost the range on her Q in spider form to finish off a runner, as well as aid her escape mechanic if there isn't any minions near by to Rappel to.

6.png - Ghost is a good choice if you substitute any Movement speed for Pen

Elise is all about taking advantage of her Q mechanic. I choose this rune set up to help Elise dominate her lane by harassing with Human form Q and out sustaining/tanking with Spider form W, before finally ripping their head off with Spider form Q.

The movement speed quints are necessary. She needs to be able to keep up with someone, as well as dance and harass with her Q range. When her W is activated in Spider form, you need to be able to stay in melee range to effectively out sustain and tank.

Armor and Magic resistance to help maintain safe trades that QUICKLY snowball in Elise' favor. Since your Q does a percentage enemy health (total health in human / missing health in spider).

That being said you're not killing people early in Human form, making the early pen irrelevant, taking advantage of Human form Q harass and switching to spider to safely get in as many hits as you need before finishing them off as a spider.

Attack speed helps take advantage of Elise' spider form sustain with W. It goes hand in hand with 3114_32.png as far as reaching maximum stacks in Human form while still harassing with Q.

NOTE: With these runes, once you've obtained 3114_32.png no champion can stand toe to toe with you and trade blows. Malady directly benefits Elise' core damage stats without wasting ANY on stats you don't need. The attack speed helps sustain her when you activate W in spider form, it gives you more attacks per second to quickly make your core abilities start doing true damage. The runes Augment her ability to survive, get the most damage and malady stacks, and chase down her prey to land that final Q.

Usually you will build 3136_32.png for the health AP and Pen before building into Malady. 3151_32.png+3114_32.png will give you all the AP and MPEN you need. These runes and masteries help increase her weakpoints, and take advantage of her strong points from the beggining of the game, all the way to the end.

Utility: 0

I run these masteries in any lane. It fully compliments Elise' natural tanky ability while giving her just enough AP / Attackspeed / and Magic Pen to fight just about any champion one on one.

The defensive tree can be switched around to better suit her lane. for example I may take minion defense if I'm going into the jungle, or all MR if I'm going mid vs an AP burst.

Knowing who your laning against can give you a huge advantage. Specially if the other team can't guess where you'll be. Since Elise does well Top / Mid / Jungle, you have a lot of options with the last 9 points. Although since the recent changes in the mastery trees for season 3, I feel that Utility masteries don't become beneficial till a little deeper in.

Why these masteries?

These masteries go hand in hand with my build / runepage. Attack speed reds, and flurry stack, while skipping over the measly 4% cdr. 18 AP at 18 for the next trait giving Elise about 1/3 of her needed AP to scale into late game naturally. Havoc works beautifully since it increases Elise' over all dmg regardless of the source, and arcane knowledge for early game PEN for harassment! (Now do you see where I'm going? :) ) Mental Force and spellsword continue to increase Elise' dmg without sacrificing any stats that she doesn't need. Archmage increases her AP again to scale naturally into late game without having to waste a ton of money on heavy AP offensive items that don't really scale well for Elise. Executioner being an obvious choice for stacking with your Spider form Q.

Why 9 in Defense instead of Utility?

Elise gets a HUGE defensive bonus when she switches to spider form, I found enhancing this natural tanky ability with masteries was way more beneficial than going down the utility tree. IMO the utility tree doesn't start getting good till the 3rd tier in and still requires a heavy investment. If you're in a top lane (which you probably will be due to the fact that you win MOST top matchups) You probably aren't getting blue buff anyways, personally don't think you need it either but it does help keep harass up and mana to stay in lane, making Runic Affinity next to useless.

Going down the defensive tree allows you to customize your defenses to better suit your enviroment. If you're going top vs a melee AD with a weak early game you can REALLY take advantage of how strong you are early SPECIALLY at melee range. If you're going mid you can stack your MR to take reduced damage from their spells. Even if you have a prefered Elise jungle set up, you can move the defensive tree to take less damage from minions and even return some if you'd like.

The ability layout is to take advantage of her Human form Q harassment and her Spider form Q execution.

Spider form E is a 1 point wonder, but it can be difficult to land if your opponent is ready for it. Since your E is on such a high cool down, it is usually the deciding factor in you being killed, or getting a kill.

NOTE: Your rappel is a WONDERFUL way to mitigate damage you know is coming. IE Ziggs ult, skill shots, aoe etc. You can use this when you initiate to trick the team into burning a large portion of their spells. I warn you though, if they catch on to you, they will be waiting!

W is generally maxed 2nd for damage, however in the event you find yourself in the jungle, I find putting 2 points into W before maxing Q helps her stay sustained in the jungle as well as clearing jungle creep. If you still feel like you're getting your ass kicked, you can max w and build more attack speed and you'll do just as fine because the scaling on her q is so low.

RAPPEL DOES NOT STOP DOT DAMAGE. THIS INCLUDES 14.png.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Boots and Reds to start Mid/Top
This should be what your build like before you approach mid game. Keeping a ward handy gives vision that WILL save your life as well as give you extra warning and functionality with rappel. Guise is needed for pen and livability. It's the perfect amount of health!
    Jungle Start

Core Items

The new Malady owns and seems to be built for Elise. Stacking MR reducing debuff on hit as well as attack speed without wasting ANY gold on AD (from which she doesn't scale at all)
    Core vs AP heavy
Jungle early mid goals. Very cheap and effective items. Boots and Defensive items will depend on the opposing team.
    Core vs AD heavy
There is something to be said about this group of items. Together they add an incredible on hit build for spider form that works very well with my attack speed set up.
new attack speed + cutlass active slow /execute is something that can help you catch those highly mobile champions.

Situational Items

Twin shadows are great for chasing down enemies, since it has a slowing debuff it also works with Liandry's Torment (+dmg on slowed enemies). I since it has movement speed and MR it's perfect for an AP heavy team. Iceborn Gauntlet builds out of Glacial and sheen giving you a nice boost in power as well as tankyness and CDR! What more could you ask for? It ALSO works with Liandry's torment.
This item is a blessing and is incredibly cheap. Giving you tank and vision for those tricky top lane and jungle combos.
In the event you need health to help vs high burst / true dmg champions. The new passive on Warmogs is pretty awesome.
Since Elise is strong on her own, her build can be customized to directly counter your opponent.

Boots can be swapped out for Sorc boots / Tabi to fit your situation.

Why I don't build straight AP:

Elise's AP scales VERY poorly, she benefits much more by taking advantage of her natural tankyiness and the insane dmg increase/sustain on her Spider form W.

By taking advantage of Spider form W, coupled with core item 3114_32.png, you can tear down ANYONE. Malady allows Elise to directly build into her core dmg stats without sacrificing gold on a stat that doesn't benefit her. MR  debuffs on every auto attack mean your final Q will be enough to finish the job.

3151_64.png Liandry's Torment also gives her ALL the pen and AP she could ever ask for freeing up TONS of defensive item space without sacrificing any damage. NOT TO MENTION THE PASSIVE INCREASES HER DAMAGE WITH BOTH AD AND AP DEFENSIVE ITEMS!!! THIS IS SO IMPORTANT (3025_32.png/3023_32.png)

With Season 3 masteries and runes, Elise becomes much tankier / faster / and stronger without having to sacrifice damage. Elise does large amounts of damage with low AP numbers.

BUYING A NEEDLESSLY LARGE ROD IS A SERIOUS WASTE OF MONEY. I STRONGLY URGE ANYONE WHO THINKS OTHERWISE TO SERIOUSLY MARINATE ON THE SEASON 3 CHANGES AND WHAT THEY MEAN FOR ELISE.

VS

Ahri

Hard

Ahri is a great pick vs Elise. She can burst you down at 6 with her skill combo + ignite.

Charm has a similar range and effectiveness as your Cocoon so lining one up will be hard.

Try and wait for the charm to come out before being to aggressive, bait out her ult and mitigate the damage in Spider form.

Making the Ahri feel like she has to make a move, thencapitalizingon her mistakes will be the easiest way to win this matchup.

VS

Akali

Medium

The Akali matchup is going to heavily rely heavily on your ability to stop her from mitigating harass with vision. Buying a2043_32.pngWill help keep heavy Q harass up making it impossible for Akali to farm / harass you.

Be very agressive pre 6 and if you feel that she's getting out of hand try building a3159_32.pngwhen available :3

VS

Annie

Hard

Elise has trouble dealing with Annie's burst at 6.

Stay aware of when Annie can stun you, and maintain your farm. Try and trade dmg when Annie uses her Q on a creep.

Early1033_32.png->3111_32.png->1056_32.pngcan help keep you safe during laning phase.

VS

Brand

Medium

Brand can be tricky only if he's good at landing his stun.

Otherwise business as usually, side step his attempts to harass you while harassing him with Q.

Keep up on your farm, brand can clear waves really quickly.

VS

Cassiopeia

Hard

Trading with69_icon_64.pngis NOT a good idea. When you'repoisoned you're in danger of being burst to death. When69_icon_64.pngis 6, her ult prevents you from trying to cold trade with her.

Save14.png+ Combo to finish her off. If for whatever reason, your combo doesn't finish her off. DO NOT STAY AND TRY AND FIGHT HER, SHE CAN OUT BURST YOUR SUSTAIN.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Cho has some great sustain and harassment. His silence when timed right can be very problematic.

Avoid the pop up and try and use his farm harass against him by waiting in the bushes and using your ranged to farm creeps, and your Q to keep him low health and hesitant.

If you're packing14.pngyou can kill him very easily since his Ult increases the damage you do with Q.

Do not get caught in a spot where you need your spells to be safe. A good cho will own you with his silence.

VS

Darius

Easy

Darius is a VERY easy matchup for Elise. Your Human form Q and auto attacks, out range Darius' pull.

As long as you're aware of your surroundings you should be free to be as aggressive as you please.

VS

Diana

Hard

Diana's burst and ability to stay in on her opponent, make this a very tough matchup.

Pick and choose you battles and just be passive until she over steps her boundaries.

VS

Fiora

Medium

Business as usual. Your early game isn't going to change. You have a wonderful early upper hand so make sure and take advantage of your ranged attacks. BuildingGlacial is going to mitigate any burst that Fiora is going to do to you, as well as give you a nice slow in between your spell casts when you upgrade to the ice gauntlet.

Avoiding Riposte and Fiora's ult is the key to defeating her. Fiora's ult will hit your spiderlings to help mitigate some of the strikes if you do find yourself alone.

VS

Gangplank

Hard

It's k! GP gets a free out for your only method of CC making this a very Challenging matchup and Parley harassment is not something Elise can trade with when her combo can be broken.

Counter building GP is going to be KEY to winning. Early 3136_32.png can help you keep the harassment going while early 1029_32.png/1031_32.png will help keep you alive in mid laning phase.

VS

Garen

Medium

S3 Garen is something to be afraid of as Elise. His shield will help mitigate your early Q harass, and his silence can prevent you from escaping with your life. His ult will kill you before your spider form Q would kill him.

The best thing to do in this matchup is harass him while he farms. Keep that ward up and don't let him be agressive.

Save cocoon to save your life and if you feel like you'd rather try and kill him (which does get easier with items) bring 14.png

VS

Hecarim

Easy

You'll more than likely face Hecarim from the jungle.

He's an easy matchup with dorky fear/heal mechanic. You pretty much treat it the same as any other melee matchup.

I recently played against one and it went very well. Even against a very aggressive opponent.

http://twitch.tv/zerostarhx/b/353482054

VS

Irelia

Easy

Irelia is going to rely heavily on you out playing her at low health. Saving your cocoon and bringing 14.png into your combo will make sure she goes down.

Make sure that you continue with your regular melee routine and stop her from farming too much. Q her when she goes in for farm.

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

The only thing to really watch for from J4 is the lance poke. It will reduce your armor and make you less able to trade with him when it comes time to party. Stand to the side of the creeps so he has to chose either to poke at you or CS. CS and harass him every time he goes to get a creep.

Keep your wards up so you can use cocoon and rappel escape if needed.

VS

Jax

Medium

Jax is a very popular top laner, so I find myself fighting against them often. He can be very tricky for Elise but since Jax is melee you have a slightupper hand.

Level 1 harassment isextremelyimportant. You need to be both auto attacking him while he goes to CS as well as burning all your mana on Q to burn his life away. if he ever gets below half health at lvl 1, you can go spider form and finish the job.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE YOU CAN DODGE HIS STUN WITH RAPPEL. When you land, activate W in spiderform and own him.

Some more advanced plays would include getting a full Human form dmg combo rotation before switching to spider, mitigating the stun, and coming back down to finish the job.

VS

Kayle

Medium

Kayle in light of recent nerfs in patch 3.0.3 won't be so much of a problem anymore.

She still dominates you via kiting and splash damage (murders your babies!)

I would consider a different build / rune set to be a little more tanky.

VS

Kha'Zix

Medium

Kha'Zix matches up with Elise pretty evenly when it comes to dmg opportunities. They both have strange leap mechanics with slows / gap closes as well as a execution style ability based on health.

Stacking up some AD can help curve some of Kha'Zix power.

Warding the top brush can stop Kha'zix passive from doing much too damage on you (dmg+Slow on hit if121_icon_64.pngleaves map vision)

Be careful, Kha'Zix can leap over your cocoon. DO NOT GET BAITED.

VS

Lux

Easy

Lux can be trouble if she knows when to use her spells.

If lux saves snare for your spider form, she can effectively put you on the ropes while blowing up your spiderlings to ensure a proper snare and laser.

You can trade with Lux, just be cautious of her cooldowns.

VS

Mordekaiser

Hard

Elise' natural tankiness makes Morde's method of harassment, not as scary.

Stay away from your creeps as you wear down his health with Q. let him come in on you and trap him up in a cocoon shot. Finish out the combo and rip his head off. 14.pngRINCE AND REPEAT

Be careful a good morde will save his shield+Q to take out your spiderlings! :0

VS

Nasus

Easy

Nasus is free lane!

Not only does Nasus have trouble trying to fight you, he absolutely can't CS and keep up with your harassment.

Nasus' CC is a slow which generally means after he uses it, Nasus will either be at melee range or running straight at you, giving you a very easy Cocoon giving you a clean get away.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

The key to winning the Nidalee matchup is to know when she's being too confident. A well placed ward and vision can help co-ordinate an effort to stop her from getting away. Carrying Teleport also helps stop Nidalee from trying to side push for free.

She's going to have really good vision with her traps so keep in mind you're going to be on your own unless you help clear traps.

Be careful when she's in the brush, you need to lead and line up your cocoons within the range of her leap.

Elise says - "Don't catch spears with your face"

The rest is fairly routine, harassment with Q until you can line up a safe combo.

VS

Rengar

Medium

A good Rengar can give you a run for your money, take advantage of your ranged auto attacks to farm a safe distance away from the brush. When he pops out to farm harass him with Q. An early chainmail can help prevent Rengar from bursting you too early.

Warding the bush (river / top)allows you to really control the lane, and prevent Rengar from jumping on you (With a ward you should be able to line up cocoon very easily!)

VS

Shen

Easy

Being a champion limited by melee auto attacks, Shen has a hard time keeping up with and mitigating Elise's damage.

Be as aggressive as soon as he goes for creeps. Controlling Shen's farm will keep him too weak to really do anything early game forhis team. Specially when your cocoon is a hard interrupt on Shen's ult.

Avoid and bait taunt range and maintain healthy farming. Teleport and Merc Treadsare a good idea for this matchup.

Communicate to your team where Shen is at all time to avoid another lane receiving that lvl 6 Shen love.

VS

Swain

Hard

Swain does very well vs Elise. He has a movement reduction DoT as well as a aoe root.

These 2 skills can pretty much twart any agression that Elise can throw. When a rappel comes out he can easily counter it with the root, and if Swain is being melee'd he will slow you and walk away.

When Swain reaches 6 he can farm in peace, and heal most of the harassment you can dish.

Another important matchup to play smart, don't get behind in farm, and pack14.png!

VS

Tristana

Medium

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

Such an easy match up he will never be able to 1v1 you.

Your tool set almost directly counters his. If he starts getting frisky and uses ult just bait out either the escape or make him think you're staying, rappel up into the air and down own his face with a spider teabag. 2 ez.

VS

Udyr

Easy

The only thing you need to watch for is if Udyr is going to flash at you in bear form.

He has to run straight at you, pretty much making it incredibly easy to land cocoon. It can be hard to kite him but he has to approach you.

So long as you're accurate and reactoinary, you should have no problems.

VS

Viktor

Easy

Most Viktors are going to be building death ray. If this is the case, the matchup depends on your ability to dodge lasers and that's it. Dont' engage unless you're planning on getting around his ground trap or he's already burned it.

If the Viktor levels up Power grab instead you're not going to be able to trade with him until the shield has dropped.

No matter the rod upgrade, avoid ground trap and you shouldn't have much of a problem.

VS

Vladimir

Medium

Vlad generally doesn't give shi--- about you in lane. He's going to sit there and farm, and thwart any agression with pool.

The trick to this matchup is packing14.png, not falling behind in your farm, and ONLY going for kills after you've burned his pool.

VS

Wukong

Easy

Wukong is your standard melee matchup.

Save Cocoon for when he starts getting frisky.

Pack 14.png and grab a 2043_32.png.

VS

Yorick

Hard

Despite the fact that Yorick is a Melee champion, his sustain and harass are enough to keep you from getting too aggressive.

Yorick dumping all his pets on you put you in a terrible position, you have 3 fast minions all blocking a cocoon that will save your life.

To combat this I try and keep the harassment as close to the edge as possible, baiting out the summoning of his minions. Using human form W you can clear Yorick's grouped up minions rather quickly creating a VITAL opening.

Be careful, Yorick isn't afraid to wait out your Rappel, specially if his ult is up.

C-C-C-C-Combo Back to Top

Elise has 6 skills she can rotate, and they all work together in a lovely way, giving her insane kill potential, tankyness, and survivability, when played at max potential.

An important part of this is the combo! Knowing how to burst with Elise can be the difference of winning your lane, and OWNING it.

The combo starts in Human form. Sitting behind your creep line you're generally safe from most skill shots.

Start wearing down their lifebar with Q

Weave in and out with auto attacks and Q (It's ok to trade sometimes! since your damage is based on their health / missing health and gain armor and MR in spider form, when the time comes you will come out on top)

if you can EVER line up a sure fire Cocoon, do it and immediately lead in Human form W, as the spider crawls toward your cocooned victim, you have enough time to cast ANOTHER human form Q while running at your prey.

This is where you turn into a spider and eat their face

At this point, the enemy knows there is trouble and will most likely turn away. (mmmm remember those movement speed and attack speed runes? Oh yeah! ;)

Spider form Q FIRST! This will put you in melee range, your opponent will have most likely broken out of your cocoon by now and this is a free low CD gap closer)

Activate Spider form W and munch away.

Is the coast clear?

Check your map, if you need to Rappel to get your last Spider form Q in, then make sure you're not going to be in any danger. Once you commit to that targeted rappel, you're in it for keeps.

Finish your plate with ignite or that last Q, check your mini map and get back to business.

Keeping that 2044_32.png ward 2043_32.png up will also help you land a cocoon on a incoming jungler!

Safety kit! Back to Top

Elise, when played efficiently, can use her rappel and cocoon to avoid all threats.

If you're going top / Jungle, 2045_32.png Ruby Sight stone pays it self off almost instantly. It can replace the Heart Of Gold void that might be missing. You still retain the health and the FREE WARDS are more than enough to make up for the lack of GP10. The vision that it will give is invaluable!

Using 2043_32.png 2044_32.png she can line up free cocoons on opponents who think they are going to get the jump on you.

You can rappel to any enemy unit, staying in range of the creep line can give you some amazing kiting and escape options.

Rappel grants vision on anyone in the circle

So saving your rappel is as important as 8_icon_64.png's pool. Same idea. Save it to either get the kill and safely leave, or safely leave.

Also Rappel + 4.png is a beautiful thing. Using Flash in the bushes after a repel near a creep line gives you a ton of options. Rappelling to a far away creep then burning flash to get over the river wall.

Often times People have no idea how the mechanic works so they will run toward your tower in attempts to cut you off, you can rappel to them and flash past danger as well!
