3.png Exhaust is vital in a standard bot lane, it is so very important whenever fighting each other heads up 2v2, and Taric strives for these 2v2 fight situations.

4.png Flash is a staple for almost all champions barring a few exceptions. Taric works well because he can catch people with flash-dazzle or he can be super aggressive, whacking people with his hammer then flashing out at the last moment.

7.png Heal + Exhaust combo is for the real manly gem lords. If you are looking to play MEGA aggressive, or just trying to bully them out of lane 100% - say you are going against something like a Vayne or Kog'Maw, heal + exhaust is the best way to win a lane. This combination is not as good as flash later, and may leave you susceptible to ganks, but will crush your lane in 2v2 fights.

Runes

These runes are based around early game aggression. You get the movement speed quints not only so you can position and use your stun at more precise timings, but also so you can abuse your auto attack when fighting in lane. To keep with the early aggression, we have armor marks and partially armor seals. We want to have some gold income, so kept a few gold seals on, but at the core Taric's purpose is to be a tanky beast - so we keep the armor strong with armor marks and several armor seals, this combo'd with his shatter armor, and an early emblem of valor should keep him well above the 100 armor mark early, a nightmare for the opposing AD carry. Lastly we have flat mana regen blues, this again is for early game aggression. Taric's mana pool is VERY low at low levels, so these flat mana regen (opposed to scaling) will help him play VERY aggressive in the 1-5 levels, stunning and forcing trades as much as possible!

Utility: 22

These masteries are built around a tanky support focusing around early trading. We get improved exhaust so we can burst people with the -armor/mr. Then get health regen and armor in defense - stacking these stats with our Shatter aura, as well as our Emblem of Valor rush will give us great trading potential. For utility we get the standardish support masteries, mana regen being more important for early trading than MS out of combat.

This is the general standard skill build for Taric. You want to start stun at level 1 for any possible team level 1 fights, as well as it being the best spell in early lane as well. This gives Taric a big advantage over other supports at level 1, you can try to exploit this if the situation is right.

After that you want to get 1 point in all 3 skills by level 3, usually you get Q second and W third; however, if you are about to burst them after winning a level 1 trade you should obviously get W at level 2 - get heal if you are chunked or if its generally a more passive lane.

From there you max shatter, shatter is very good in lane as not only does it provide a significant boost in survivability, it also adds for nice damage potential. Both of these attributes are very important for Taric because you are trying to play very aggressive in the early game. You can max Q if you are getting beat really hard in lane; however, there are very few situations where I would do this. Worst case scenario I would get maybe 1-2 extra points in Q early but still try to max shatter by 9 or 10.

After maxing shatter it comes down to whether to max dazzle or imbue. In a normal game I max Imbue, this is typically better for teamfights and you can usually do some clutch saves as well. However, if you are in a very aggressive game and you have lots of kills/assists, maxing dazzle second can be viable as well - it adds some damage to your burst combo as well as lowering the cooldown significantly so you can get more stuns in intense fights.

Start With
Core
Situational

Starting Build:

This opening build is built around going for aggressive trades early. We use our mana regen runes and masteries to supply all the mana we need, and get health regen along with our defensive mastery and just try to force trades. This means that even if you come out of a trade behind, because of your health regen you still win. Be very assertive and ready to trade !

Core:
ORDER: Boots --> Emblem of Valor --> Sightstone --> Aegis --> Philo

This is the end-of-early game build. Emblem of valor rush is to again synergize with your high armor and high hp regen opening, this also now builds into Aegis so it is perfect of a rush item for Taric. This is NOT gold/10 build, but with your masteries and the new gold pacing, and sightstone covering all of your warding needs, you should be ok. This is a trade-off for more early game power for late game power, make sure to abuse the fact that you will be more tanky and more useful than the other support by trying to force fights as much as possible!

End of Mid Game:
Ruby Sight stone --> Merc Treads --> Shurelya's Reverie

This is end of mid game build. This is just to round out your build and make you more tanky overall. This upgrades your sight stone for more HP and wards, upgrades to Merc Treads because as you move later in the game you are going to be having more experience with AP damage dealers as well as more CC from other lanes, and then Shurelya's to build out of your philo and because it is solid item for Taric in team battles, since you already have philo stone it is the best bang for your buck and you should be looking to itemize for mid game as that is when you start tapering off.

Late game / Situational Items:

I describe it in the section above, but you should get these items based on your situation. If there is nothing special going on, I would go for Lock of Iron Solari then Bulwark or Crucible. I am going to add a bit of description of each of these situational items to describe why I put them in these categories.

Anti-AoE

3107_32.png This is a new item that upgrades from Aegis. This is a late game specialization item, not something you should rush. The upgrade from aegis->bulwark is primarily focused on a stronger Magic Resist aura, this is a good choice vs people like Karthus, Vlad, Galio, etc. - it's a good support answer to AoE strats like we have been seeing.

3190_32.png Locket is roughly the same as before, but it has gotten better a bit by adding kindlegem instead of HoG for upgrade path. This again is a great item vs AoE because it gives nice shield to all team members as essentially a counter-AoE design. Great item vs the common AoE ult teamfight stacked teams of these days.

Protecting the Carry

3050_32.png Zeke's is a great item for protecting the carry, the lifesteal which has been generally nerfed is still strong in this item, and it has been tuned up a bit so now it gives AD and Lifesteal rather than attack speed. Overall its a great choice if your AD carry is strong or if your team is stacked with brusiers.

3222_32.png Crucible is a new item which is essentially a QSS you can cast on someone + heal. This is great support item, although it can give excessive mana regen to someone like Taric, the active is too good for protecting the carry.

Diving into the teamfight

3143_32.pngIf you find yourself as the only tanky person on your team, or that you are always being focused, this can be a good item to pickup for you. It has changed since the last patch and it is now more even (slowing every time you are attacked, rather than chance), and the active is a bit better. This is now an acceptable option, but one I would only get rarely - it is better to play in the back of teamfights than diving the opposing team.

Misc Items

3060_32.png This item gives you the active of what old Promote did. This can be useful if you are going for a pushing strat or something. I would only pick it up if I had the intention to before the game started - not quite something that I would do in every game. Can be fun to play around with though, it makes the minions really fast !

Good guide and pretty much complete gj

I only question starting with 4 GP10 runes to be honest. Mathematically is it worth it? Its only 4 rune slots so its not a huge endeavor - but realistically you're only getting 130 bonus gold at 20 minutes into the game.

The extra gold from the GP10 Runes isn't for buying a complete item. If anything its to make that difference when you recall. How many times have you had to recall and be 10 gold short and had to either wait or go back to lane without the item you wanted.

I suppose in retrospect it does equate for the -1 nerf to Philosopher Stone, but is that really necessary considering the rest of the passive gold buffs? Its not bad but its certainly far from optimal.

To be honest, I wouldn't do it. If a cloth armor is 15 armor for 300 gold then those 4 armor yellows are worth about 112.8 gold which is a little less but they're available straight at level 1.

So what about Sivir matchup?

Bait the shield by running towards her as if you were going to stun, then wait. If she's already shielded and you want to engage then figure which spell you want to hit more between what you have available. If you don't have much room to fight (she is near her tower) then hit shatter to eat the shield and then stun her so your ad can get some damage on her. If she's really overextended and you don't need to stun her but would rather have the armor pen then stun to eat the shield then get shatter off. If your adc is already in position for damage this could be a better option, especially if they can push the enemy adc back like trist or vayne.

A good Sivir can bait the stun instead, Taric's Dazzle animation's VERY predictable, he advances his shield forward and raises his hammer, and the dazzle's not that fast, what's fast is Mundo's cleaver, Lee sin's Sonic Wave, but Taric's dazzle? Not fast, if you don't suck with Sivir, you may never need to get stunned in lane. If anything, make your adc bait the spell shield.

Do you guys think that Scout is worth for any support? I mean +25% range for 5 seconds isnt that usefull... I would place it to Wealth or Awareness.

That is a good question... I place it to Wanderer, especially if your are easily winning bot lane, u can get boots of mobility and just roam, maybe try to protect mid + if u have exhaust, it is like 90% of the kill... I also think pickpocket is not something u must have, sure u have to play agressive, but that, in my opinion is another point in Wanderer.

Well actually ifind it really good on any support (especially ranged supports), it gives you +25% ward range for 5 seconds, so when you put your Pink ward, you are able to see a lot further and thus, have a better coverage =) !

nunu is not good supp vs taric. in 90% of games u will go taric + graves/ezreal what give you enought big burst to kill enemy adc without chase.

This guide is terrible and equivalent with any other guide written by pros and put on solo-mid. It's empty of any of the information you'd actually need if you were new to either Taric or the support role.

My advice to anyone who's going to use these guides: Just go to solomid and find the highest rated guides written by players who are actually passionate about the champ they play, because they will actually give you information on every matchup, different situational item builds, how to transition properly into mid/late games, etc.

I don't see what's so bad about it. You can't change what is good or what's optimal. His early-game and team-fight descriptions are spot on in my opinion.

Viral? Viral. I see information on matchups, situational item builds, and discussion on the early/mid/lategame here.
