Summoner Spells Back to Top

Why do you take them?

11.png : Absolutely essential for every jungler. Smite provides you with control over dragon/baron and allows faster jungling. There isn't any other possible choice for your first spell-slot

3.png : Great spell for counterjungling because exhaust makes it nearly impossible to duel you. Also increasing your gankingpower by a large amount since Shyvana is missing any kind of CC pre 6. Always make sure you use exhaust on the enemy Ad Carry in teamfights unless there is a higher priority target (e.g. Katarina, Kennen etc.).

4.png : I've seen quite a lot of people actually taking flash on Shyvanna. To be honest, I don't see too much sense in doing this because your ultimate will grant you the possibility to get to the target you want to kill already very easily. However if you don't like exhaust at all feel free to go for flash. Also if you are playing the half-dragon for your first time it's always safer to go with flash.

6.png : Turns you into a Master Yi 2.0 in teamfights, kinda funny to play with, however flash will normally serve u better if you need some extra mobility.

Quints: Movespeed: Allows you to escape from dangerous situations (counterjungling) + grants you the possibility to stick to the enemy's carry also without your W up.

Yellows: Armor: The new jungle hits hard so Armor is essential in order to stay alive.

Blues: CDR: Improves Clearspeed as well as mobility.

Reds: Attackspeed: With the new Devourer Upgrade for your Jungle item attackspeed marks now have the edge over hybridpen.

Offense:

Double-Edged Sword: Very strong mastery, even better since you're melee
Sorcery: 5% CDR is big
Brute Force: Needed for Martial Mastery
Martial Mastery: Improves early clear speed

Defense:

Recovery: Basic Sustain for earlygame
Enchanted Armor: Cheap lategame armor and magic resist
Tough Skin: Keeps you alive in the Season 5 Jungle
Veteran Scars: Early game health
Bladed Armor: New jungle monsters have more HP --> this mastery got better
Juggernaut: Absolutely insanely strong, already really good in the earlygame
Hardiness: Earlygame armor
Resistance: Earlygame magicresist
Swiftness: You want to be fast, not slow
Reinforced Armor: Helps a lot vs ADcarries or crazy stuff like Yi
Evasive: 4% Is a lot for one point and a basic pickup to protect yourself against mages
Legendary Guardian: Not as good as it used be but still a strong choice
Tenacious: Just amazing

Utility:

Fleet of foot: 418 movespeed with the runes i suggested and mercs, that's probabaly faster than any of your opponents

Other possible masteries:

1. With a little bit more damage (you can still go for the same items):

Take Ultimate whenever possible.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Standard start when jungling
Rush this as soon as possible, wriggles is just the best item for a farm based Shyvana
    Try to get Flare asap

Core Items

Early Hp is important not to get blown up instantly
    Time to start carrying
This will provide you with enough overall tankyness
Pinks wards are very important for dragon control at this time of the game

Situational Items

Full build vs lots of physical dmg
Full build vs lots of magic dmg
Full Build vs ONLY physical dmg
Full builds vs ONLY magic dmg (extremely rarely used)
VERY IMPORTANT FOR LATEGAME TEAMFIGHTS/ BARON CONTROL
3083_32.png : Warmogs has been pretty strong for some time but I for my part would always prefer one of the items given above over a Warmogs. But if you need good early game tankyness  or if you need more HP reg. feel free to grab it.

3068_32.png+3091_32.png : The new Wit's end synergies extremely well with Shyvana, Feral Flare and Sunfirecape so you may want to get this combo in 80% of your games.

3154_32.png : Wriggles got its upgrade path to feral flare which suddenly makes wriggles the go-to item for a lot of junglers.

3190_32.png : Insane Item for teamfighting you can get it if you feel like there won't be to much farming but fighting instead.

3047_32.png : Only take this pair of shoes if you aren't afraid of CC or the enemy has 4 ADs + support

3117_32.png : If you have to gank all day you maybe want to take these, however i personally don't like them on Shyvana.

3009_32.png : Ok vs enemies with plenty of slows.

1080_32.png : I don't like the spiritstone path as Shyvana because you are wasting the mana-reg.

3078_32.png : If you don't like to be tanky go and grab it, it is a really good item for Shyvana even though your wasting the part with the mana.

3071_32.png : You're dealing more magic (70%) than physical (30%) damage so the armor pen. would be wasted on you.

For the shoes 3rd tier:
- Furor helps you chasing down their ADC
- Alacrity if you are having problems to get close enough to attack
- Captain will support your team to follow after your initiate
- Homeguard will help you if you and your team are getting poked near inhibitor turret so you can come back with full hp quickly. Also great for baron rushes.

2037_32.png , 2044_32.png2043_32.png : NEVER FORGET!

VS

Alistar

Easy

He needs such a long time until he gets to his red so u can just take his red+ golems/wraiths (if he did lvl 2 gank) and leave the little one(s). He will fall behind with lvl and gold very quickly.

VS

Amumu

Easy

Kill him at red and then keep counterjungling him. He will be a threat for your team lategame unless you have completely destroyed him.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Counterjungle with care because he will be able to hold you in place for a long time until his team can arrive.

VS

Darius

Medium

Dueling a Darius is always somewhat risky but with your exhaust you can definitely win that fight pre 6. But be careful always to have a safe way to get out of his jungle after a fight with him because his team will finish you off very quickly.

VS

Diana

Easy

Diana jungle is a very rare pick atm. However if you find one kill her over and over again in her jungle.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

He will be at very low HP when gets to his blue/red so you can kill him fairly easily.

VS

Elise

Medium

She can escape with her E if she learned it already + she deals very high damage if you are at low HP. You can get her red because she´s pretty slow but better dont try to fight her.

VS

Evelynn

Easy

Try to be aggressive early, she is very weak without level+items!

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

His drain can be annoying when trying to kill him so take his red but leave one of the littles. Sit in the bush and wait for him to drain the little lizard. Then you can kill him even without using your exhaust.

VS

Fiora

Easy

When counterjungling: Exhaust her --> kill her.

In teamfights: Exhaust her --> kill her.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

Gangplank is a very slow jungler until he picked up his Frozen FIst and/or Statikk Shiv so you can counterjungle him fairly easily within the first ~20 minutes of the game. However his passive (and red if he has) will allow him to hold you in place for enough time so his team can help him out. Also note that he can remove your exhausts slow with his oranges.

VS

Hecarim

Hard

You can duel the pony however you will never be able to kill him unless he used his E so dont waste your exhaust. Hecarim will be the superior champ late because of his ult and his slow with his Frozen Fist and damage with Spirit of the Elder Lizard.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

With J4 you're going to have the same problems as with Hecarim. Even though you're stronger in dueling you will never be able to kill him because he will E-Qs away (don't waste your exhaust!) or holds you in place for enough time for his team to arrive. If he ults you in teamfights just use your own ult to get out of it and enjoy smashing his carrys

VS

Jax

Easy

Pretty hard to duel that guy because of his E and W. He will slightly fall off lategame (compared to top/mid lane Jax) since he's missing the large amounts of money he needs to get really effective.

VS

Kha'Zix

Hard

Never duel this guy, you will lose if he uses the bushes to his advantage.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

You're actually one of those very few champs who can 1 vs 1 Lee fairly easily. Just be careful if hes running exhaust. In the teamfights he can kick you back if you just have ulted or even interrupt it (2nd most annoying thing in the game, only teemo is worse).

VS

Malphite

Medium

Haven't seen a lot of Malphites jungling this season (mostly because he's nearly always banned) and he's not even that easy to duel. His E will shred your attack speed while his Q will compensate your W so his team can arrive and help him out.

VS

Maokai

Medium

You can duel him but you have to be fast because he got tons of CC and his passive to stay alive until his team will come to help him out.

VS

Nasus

Medium

You can kill him at red because he wont have his W yet. He outscales you lategame so try to get your AP teammates fed because Nasus will stomp on your ADC anyways.

VS

Nautilus

Easy

Very easy matchup for you, kill him at red (burst down his shield) and enjoy taking his stuff all day so he becomes even more useless.

VS

Nocturne

Hard

If he runs exhaust he will defeat you in 1 vs 1 if not it's still extremely dangerous because of his incredible damage with his q and the fear can be really annoying throughout the whole game. So better dont try to steal his red and just counterjungle carefully when you are aware of where Nocturne is.

VS

Nunu

Medium

He can be extremely annoying because he's so fast and he got such good control with his consume every 17-9 (Without CDR) seconds. Keep control over your own jungle (wards) and punish him if he tries to steal your stuff.

VS

Olaf

Hard

Even if you got exhaust he will defeat you easily and he can also chase you down with his axes so he doesn't even need his teammates to kill you. Be careful because a good Olaf will probably kill you at your pwn red so ask your support if he can give his 60 secs ward at their bush between mid-lane+wraiths so you see if he went for your jungle in order that  you can react and take his red instead. You can also just start with your own red and play a "normal" jungle and dont touch his jungle before you went back for the first time.

VS

Pantheon

Easy

Disturb him early and he will become useless because pantheon is very reliant on getting a lot of money within the first 15 minutes.

VS

Rammus

Medium

You can take his red before he gets there but dont try to kill him because he is ways too tanky and his lanes will help him out.

VS

Rengar

Easy

Rengar got overnerfed you can duel him very easily just be careful when your low HP not to allow him to use the bushes to his advantage.

VS

Sejuani

Medium

I recommend starting with her red and going for a normal jungle route then because of her ability run away from you (her Q) and her hillarious amount of slows which allow team to come to help her out.

VS

Shaco

Medium

Shaco is a tricky guy, you have to be careful so he can't just take your jungle and deceive away happily. Unless he got tons of boxes in a bush you can duel him extremly easily but you'll probabaly never be able to kill him. My advise for playing vs Shaco is to start with your own red and jungle safely. Counterganks work great vs him so always try to be aware where he is moving

VS

Shen

Medium

Same deal as with Warwick. He's tanky enough and heals himself so much that his team will nearly always arrive in time. However you can steal his red and run for your life if you are fast enough.

VS

Shyvana

Easy

Blind Pick is for pre lvl 30, go for draft/ranked :D.

VS

Skarner

Easy

Kill him at red, his W wont help him because you can destroy it so quickly. If you're already very tanky lategame allow him to grab you into his team and have fun stomping his Carrys.

VS

Trundle

Hard

It's surprising but you have no chance vs Trundle. He will be able to 1 vs 1 you even if your're running exhaust and he's not. In teamfights his ult turns you into a very squishy frontliner what isn't cool at all. Pick someone else!

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

Jungle Tryndamere is fairly week compared to his top-lane-counterpart. He needs a of time to get his items up so try to disturb him early on. He got no chance in a duel because of your exhaust even if he gets some lucky crits.

VS

Udyr

Medium

You can't take his red and kill him because he's a very fast jungler. Better try to invade his blue with your team because he's pretty reliant on the manareg.

VS

Vi

Medium

She got nerfed so her early damage isn't that crazy anymore. You can kill her at red easily. Her lategame is slightly better than yours is so try to act early.

VS

Volibear

Medium

Pedobear has become quite popular (credits to diamondprox ; sry i'm not aware who did it before him in Asia :D); kill him at red and dont allow him to get fed or he will be a real pain lategame. Also be careful with his w damage, its surprisingly high and can be your death.

VS

Warwick

Medium

He's just a ways too safe jungler, steal his wolves whenever you can but don't duel him. Gank at level 4 because he will probabaly farm until he is 6.

VS

Wukong

Easy

You can kill him very easily at his red, he won't have his decoy yet so you should be able to kill him without any problems.

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium

His Q hurts. Normally you should be able to kill him at red. Time your exhaust carefully so you reduce his damage when he uses Q.

VS

Zac

Medium

You can duel him but make sure he can't just jump away happily. He is better at ganking than you are and outclasses you lategame.

VS

Zed

Easy

You probably won't find a Zed jungling but if you do so, kill him at the buff he's not starting with. You can duel him pre 6 (don't try after level 6 you will die unless you have tons of armor/HP) but he might be able to escape with his W.

Champions who work well WITH Shyvana Back to Top

61_icon_64.png : Oriana works great with Shyvana because you can bring her ball (she places it on you with her E) right in the middle of all the enemys. Her Command: Shockwave (her ult) will deal incredible high damage to all targets you're near while disabling them from running for a short duration of time. Also the defesive stats her e grants will help to facetank the burst they will use on you.

98_icon_64.png : Tell Shen to splitpush top/bot and when it comes to a fight he will (hopefully) ult you and will be able to taunt their adc and/or ap carry if you brought him into a good position. The ult's shield will help you soaking up all the damage you have to tank as your only frontliner (or your 2. if you have Leoana, Blitzcrank, Thresh or Taric support).

117_icon_64.png : To be honest this is my favourite combination. Her speed will allow you to get in position to ult and when you do so Lulu can actually turn your into an even bigger dragon who got a very annoying perma-slow for her foes. The extra HP also comes in very handy.

I actually had all three of them in my team not long time ago and I can tell you that I never had so much fun playing Shyvana. You're just a totally unkillable CC-thing dealing tons of damage (TM by Phreak) because of Orianas ult+Shen being able to jump on their carrys. Even though my Lulu had to protect our Ad Carry alone she did pretty good and our AD carry stayed alive most of the times.

Champions who work well AGAINST Shyvana Back to Top

2_icon_64.png : You can't counterjungle Olaf because he got more CC (so his team can arrive) and more damage so he can even kill you without his team. His truedamage can hurt in teamfights if your lacking HP and he will actually perform better at everything. He just can't jump over the baron/drake wall to do a super-stylish drake/baron steal.

12_icon_64.png : You can't initiate vs that guy. He just headbutts you away or CCs you long enough that his team can kill you.

20_icon_64.png : Try to interrupt his ult with your's, or you could rename yourself to "Shyvana, the half-snail". His iceblast can be a pain when you're trying to reach their Ad Carry while his W will make him and his carry move very fast. To sum it up: You get kited. A pair of Boots of Swiftness can help you.

22_icon_64.png : Mistress of kiting but very squishy+no escape. Try to make her use her ult on you so your teammates don't have to be afraid of her CC. Boots of swiftness are highly recommended.

27_icon_64.png : Very fast and very annoying as soon as he gets Crystal Cepter. NEVER CHASE A SINGEND! I mean like really never.

40_icon_64.png : She's actually a mix between Ashe and Alistar. Her ult allows her team to disengage while Q+W will kite you around. Her passive speeds her whole team. Pretty strong champion vs Shyvana.

48_icon_64.png : He's your nightmare. You can't duel him and he makes you useless in the teamfights.

67_icon_64.png : She pins you to a wall after your ult and kites you with her q while her silver bolts will slowly but surely kill you. Randuins Omen is a must have!

126_icon_64.png : He speeds his whole team and knocks you away. Impossible to engage vs a well playing Jayce as Shyvana.

Teamfight Behaviour Back to Top

In the mid-lategame teamfights you normally want to shut downthe enemys' AD Carry by

a) zoning him: Zoning someone in a teamfight means that you keep him away from attacking your teammates and attacking you instead or just running away. You can do this pretty easily as Shyvana just by buying enough armor. Dont forget to buy atleast a red potion so he wont be able just to ignore you. Randuins+Red potion are the cheapest items for allowing you to do so.

b) killing him: Especially when you got some early kills in the game you can go for some damage items or just kill their ADC because of your high level. However NEVER build too squishy or  they will just burst you regardless how fed you are. Good items for killing their ADC are Frozen Mallet+Blade of the Ruined King+ one armor item.

If you have to kill/zone their AP carry Bulwark and/or a Maw of Momortius+Mallet will serve you well.

However you sometimes have to play the "defend they ADC" role

This works fairly easily by just standing next to  your AD carry and damaging+CCing the enemy (never ult the enemy towards you ADC it might cost you the game). A Frozen Mallet+Aura Items will help you doing this.

Why did I create my guide? Back to Top

Hello guys,

so some of you may ask why the hell they should care about some random guy's opinion on how to play Shyvana. Well to be honest i cant give you any reasons like i would be playing jungle for Curse, CLG, EG or something like that because i am just not doing so. Im was Diamond V in Season 3 and am trying to get there again at the moment :D. And I got a fairly good winrate with Shyvana... ye that's all I got. Edit: My guide is featured now so it can't be THAT bad ;)

When i was bored (I was at 1650 elo back then (would be Gold IV now)) I checked the pretty new guide feature of LoLking. I saw there weren't too many guides for one of my favourite champions yet so I tried my best to do a good guide and it actually became quite popular which i'm pretty proud and happy about. Im sure YOU could write a guide too,  it's not that hard.

I'm trying to improve this guide day by day and add more and more content so any kind of constructive feedback is very appretiated. I'm also very sorry about any mistakes in grammar and/or choice of words i'm not a native english speaker. I also don't wanna say that my opinion would be the only correct one or anything like that. If you got any more questions post them in the comments and i may add a FAQ/add a new section for them or something like that. Once again thanks a lot for reading, correct me in my mistakes and post your feedback. cya

Also feel free to add me ingame if you got any further questions/criticism.

Will be continued as soon as i feel like doing so... yes i will add joungle routes... one day
