Summoner Spells Back to Top

14.png Ignite is pretty self  explanatory. You want to be that lane bully, you want to destroy any hope your opponent has of being useful for the next 20 minutes. And what better way than to set them on fire while your ghouls give them the beat down.

6.png Generally ghost is better because it gives you a disgusting amount of sticking power (especially in teamfights) with your slowing ghoul and gauntlet (if you build it). The only way someone is going to get away is by flashing and/or dashing over walls.
4.png Get this if their team has either a stupid amount of CC or displacement effects that are going  to ruin your day, great initiation, early gankers with gap closers, or a combination of the three. Ghost isn't going to save you from 53_icon_64.png or 54_icon_64.png, nor is it going to save you from early gankers like 5_icon_64.png and 64_icon_64.png unless you use it preemptively.

It's essentially do I need to stick to a target, or do I need to make sure I'm not caught out in a bad position.

12.png3.png Honorable mention for these two, the only times you will get them is if your team wants to play split push and your opponent is a weak laner, they have a split pusher and your team wants you to get TP, Shen, or your team for whatever reason lacks exhaust.

Quints

Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage
+2.25 attack damage x3
Flat AD benefits yorick the most, except in certain circumstances listed below.

Greater Quintessence of Armor
+4.26 armor x3

OR

Greater Quintessence of health
+26 health x3
Only use the armor if you're against other strong bullies/assassins like 92_icon_64.png80_icon_64.png58_icon_64.png , and health for the ap equivalent like 68_icon_64.png and if you're not comfortable with the match up. It's not necessary but will definitely help early on.

Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed
+1.5% movement
They're nice if you need the boost more so than the extra harass and sustain on your spells, but I still like the +ad.

Marks

Greater Mark of Attack Damage
+0.95 attack damage x9
For now these are the ones I recommend. Hybrid pen marks look promising so I'll update this after I look into it.

Seals

Greater Seal of armor
+1.41 armor x9
Useful against champions that deal physical damage.

Greater Seal of Scaling Health
+1.08 health per level x9
Get this if against magic dealers, health per level out scales flat by level 5 so don't bother with those.

Glyphs

Greater Glyph of Magic Resistance
+1.34 magic resistance
Use this if against magic damage in lane (includes the enemy jungler), or if they have shit like TF.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resistance
+0.15 magic resistance per level
These are for when the enemy jungler/laning opponent have little to no magic damage.

Utility: 0

I go 9/21 due to the fact that he's melee, he wants to be in the thick of the fight for the majority of the game. Also, he doesn't really benefit from going deeper down the offensive tree as much as he does in the defensive.

Offensive is self explanatory, you want the cdr for ghoul spam and although your main two ghouls do magic damage, you want the ad more.

Here is where things get dicey, I don't always run the same 21 points in the defensive tree. Obviously if the enemy does 0 magic damage you're not going to get Resistance, likewise with Hardiness. These points generally go into Perseverance but can also be put into relentless if they have a lot of slows (if you have ghost for a summoner, well you can't always rely on it) or into defender if you expect a level 1 fight. And if you are going to be doing wraiths/wolves at level 1 you might want to get tough skin. Good hands is pretty good for 1 point.

Legendary armor is a pretty worthless talent, but if there is no reason for  tenacious you can go ahead and shift those into it.

I have not tried going down utility, but I expect it to be pretty lackluster because honestly the only thing that catches my eye is the mana regen and lifesteal/spellvamp and maybe the cdr/movement speed.

If you're feeling particularly saucy you can go 17/13 maxing out the CDR and getting spellpen in the offensive tree and skipping two points in the resistance tier and tenacious/juggernaut/honor guard. Again, don't recommend unless you really really really want to stomp your lane.

Max Omen of  Famine first for the damage and sustain, then pestilence next because this is around the time teamfights start and you're going to want the increased  slow and aoe. Of course level your ult at 6 11 and 16
R > Q > W > E
Oh and you use r to summon the revenant but it doesn't automatically attack so you need to r click again otherwise it will just sit there.

You should get pestilence first if you're invading/defending from an invade. Be careful about using this skill to harass as it does aoe damage and will push the lane. If your opponent is juking your ghouls by using the brush, make sure to cast this inside the bush so you can maintain vision of them.

The only time you will save leveling your q until 8 is if you absolutely cannot get auto attacks off. You get -5% damage taken and +5% damage done for every ghoul out, an extra 5% slow and a little bit of damage on w is not even close to worth that. Not to mention the movespeed bonus from the ghoul itself and the auto attack reset modifier. Do note that hitting a tower with q won't summon the ghoul, so if you can, use the reset on a minion to proc your passive.

Here's a part where it all depends on the game. GENERALLY I like to get my ult at 6, but I've seen people save it for levels 8-10 because they don't really feel a need for that extra life until then. I dunno, I'd rather have it there and not need it than not have it and need it y'know what I'm sayin'? Also you can push towers down faster since it counts for your passive and will kill shit with you! ^.^

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Get this if you expect to back early so you can get tear asap.
Annoying gankers/need more sustain than flask
Standard start. Get potions instead if you don't plan on getting ganked (pff..)
Mom they're hitting me make them stop

Core Items

These should be your first items, you can get manamune before kindle if you want
If you need more damage, replaces gauntlet
You should have these or be close to them by midgame
I really like this item, get it when you need it.
    Suggested final build against ap

Situational Items

Getting focused? Not a problem, take a pick out of any of these
    ALL TEH MANAZ
Against low magic damage + cc
Bruta against laners like cho/nasus and LW if you're super fed and feel like killing people with ghoul autos

Let me at 'em Coach!

2041_32.png Is probably the best start,  but if you're against a champion like 92_icon_64.png then obviously you want to go1001_32.png2003_32.png start so you can dodge her q harass. If you go 2041_32.png and you don't expect to get ganked before your first recall, go ahead and grab some potions to solidify your stranglehold over top :)

Is it a weak laner that you'll probably push out early? Grab that 1004_32.png so you can recall early and start the 3070_32.pngghoul train choo choo!

Do they have high sustain, cc, 68_icon_64.png and/or have annoying ganking jungler #3? Mr. I never leave lane31_icon_64.png? Counter with2003_32.png2004_32.png2044_32.png!

In almost every case, you're going to want more mana potions than health potions just because of how yorick functions as a champion. Like if I go pots wards I'll generally split it 4/5 or 3/6 health/mana unless it's someone who is going to be hitting you more than you can heal up with E through trades (like68_icon_64.png76_icon_64.png85_icon_64.png). No point wasting mana when you can just pot up the damage.

That dragon is looking pretty lonely, I should bring it a present.

At around levels 8-11 your team should at LEAST be asking you out on a date by dragon and/or the enemy towers. You should preferably bring 3004_32.png ,1001_32.png, and 3065_32.png or 3190_32.pngdepending on which one you rushed (it's ok to have a 3070_32.png and not upgrade it so long as you get another item). Bitches love white and blue swords things.

Sidenote: I get 3028_32.png a -lot- just because it lets you spam to your hearts content and bully top laners even more than you would with just 2041_32.png and 3070_32.png. The only reason I put it under situational items is because it's not exactly -required-, and if you're having trouble getting gold you don't want to set your build too far behind. I'd say it's pretty mandatory against ap tops though (especially shit like 8_icon_64.png).

When should you get 3190_32.png before 3065_32.png or 3025_32.png? Good question Billy! There aren't very many opportunities to rush 3190_32.png, it's pretty much if their team has a truckload of ad (aka mr on 3065_32.png is almost useless) or if you will be forcing dragons EARLY. Like, level 5-6 early. So like I said, pretty rare. It just isn't worth losing the extra healing from 3065_32.png in my opinion.

Now do you get it before 3025_32.png depends on whether you need the slow zone/armor more than the hp/shield. A lot of the time the enemy team will surrender  before you can even finish 3057_32.png so it's up to the needs of the team and what is exactly going on in team fights.

OBLIGATORY BUT WHAT IF THAT NASUS WORSHIPS ME AS A GOD ATM?

Ok so you're doing super well in lane, awesome! You have two options. You can continue building your core OR you can take a sidestep into beast mode swagger island. 3134_32.png Will make champions like nasus and cho'gath cry as your ghouls take a dump all over their  cheerios.

WHAT DO I DO WITH ALL THIS GOLD?

By now you should have your choice of boots and your  core of 3065_32.png3190_32.png3025_32.pngMuramana(need picture) and are probably wondering what that last slot should be.

FUCK THAT AD HURTS:

get 3107_32.png if your team doesn't have it for whatever reason,3026_32.png if you dying means you lose the game or they have shit that can catch you out easy, otherwise get3143_32.png. 3075_32.png  gets a mention just because it has the highest armor for its slot and the passive is good if the enemy team has auto attackers who are stupid enough to have no life steal and there's no bulwark/aegis aura/mr items. Because you already have a bunch of armor from 3190_32.png3025_32.png (if you built them which you should) health increases your EHP more than the armor will.

MOM ANNIE BURSTED ME AGAIN I DON'T LIKE IT:

A lot of the MR choices aren't very exciting, and since visage is already core you have a choice betweenthe health from 3083_32.png, 3107_32.png if your team doesn't already have it (double aura is still good, coordinate with your support/jungler if they both want it!), 3156_32.png for shit like karthus or burst casters (it's ok), or 3026_32.png for the same reason as AD. 3139_32.png I guess you could get this if they have like a malzahar or something but it's pretty iffy.

3035_32.png is only for happy fun times when you're like 10/0 and have visage/manamune already. Or your team for whatever reason has shit like shen malphite(tank obvs duh he's a giant rock how is he supposed to damage people? By throwing bits of himself in the form of pebbles? Please, he'd just lose health.) Ad caster ezreal and soraka. Seriously, this is one of those cases where yorick proooobably wasn't a good idea.

Boot Enchants and why you should never rush them.

I'm gonna make it plain and simple. They suck. Why? Diminishing returns on movement speed pretty much gimp their gold value to the point where the only ones I would suggest getting are captain or homeguard if you're defending the base/baron. Maybe distortion if you have teleport. If you have leftover gold feel free to snag one but please try not to get one until you have at least your core build. Super fast ghouls are always fun though!

Why 3025_64.png and not 3078_64.png ?

Ok here are the stats for each item

3025_64.png :
 +40 ability power  +500 mana
 +60 armor              +15% CDR
UNIQUE Passive - Spellblade: After using an ability, the next basic attack (on hit) deals bonus physical damage equal to 125% of base Attack Damage to enemies near the target, and creates a field around the target for 2 seconds that slows enemy Movement Speed by 30% (2 second cooldown).
3078_64.png:
 +30 AD +30 AP +30% ATSP
 +10% crit +8% movement speed
 +250 hp +200 mana
UNIQUE Passive - Icy: Basic attacks have a 25% chance to slow target's Movement Speed for 2 seconds on hit (30% slow for melee attacks, 20% slow for ranged attacks).
UNIQUE Passive - Spellblade: After using an ability, the next basic attack deals bonus physical damage equal to 150% of base Attack Damage on hit (2 second cooldown).

As you can see, 3078_64.png gives you more offensives stats compared to 3025_64.png so obviously it's the better choice right? Not exactly! What does a yorick want from an item? He wants at least some CDR so he can have ghouls up constantly, he wants mana, and since he has to get in melee range to wreak the most havoc he needs some defensive stats as well.
They both have wonderful stats (the crit and attack speed is pretty meh on 3078_64.png though, rest is nice) but I would argue that the perma slow, cdr, and mana from 3025_64.png is stronger than the offensive stats you gain from 3078_64.png. Really it comes down to what is your whole goal in fights? It's to be that obnoxious brick wall that pisses off the enemy team while carrying your own. Is 3078_64.png going to help you with that more than3025_64.png will? I think not!

In summation, the utility from 3025_64.png trumps the offensive stats gained from 3078_64.png in almost every scenario. Obviously if your team is lacking in the damage department you should get trinity.

VS

Akali

Easy

Pretty easy lane pre-6, just ward up and deny her as much as possible because after she gets her ult she can and probably will kill you. if she tries to q auto/e you, or shrouds just plop your slow ghoul on her punk ass and watch her walk around in circles.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

The first couple levels will decide this lane. His sustain isn't as good as yours at this point and his spells aren't very strong so try to zone him if possible. His passive works on your ghouls along with the fact that he can just aoe them down, and once he gets a couple items all you can do is farm or ask for a gank.

This is a lane where a 3134_32.png would be a good investment.

VS

Darius

Easy

Has no innate sustain but try not to trade autos especially post 6 since he wants those passive stacks. Poke him from a distance with w and e, and if he pulls you quickly q and back off, healing any damage you took, keep in mind that his q does more damage the further away you are from him.

If you can bait the pull then feel free to harass to your hearts content.

VS

Elise

Easy

I really hate the spider bitch, but you can outsustain her damage with ease. 3028_32.png might be a good choice if you're having trouble.

VS

Fiora

Easy

Unless you get camped or get completely outplayed, there is no way she is winning this lane.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

Don't try to 1v1 him before level 2 and the next thing you know he'll be cowering at his tower begging for mercy. Note that he still gets bonus gold if he parrrleys your ghouls, but it doesn't matter because you stole all his oranges.

VS

Garen

Medium

He wins trades earlier than you, especially at level 2. Play it safe early and just farm, a good garen will abuse his passive and make slowing him difficult. Do not slow him until he q's if you can, because he will just laugh at you while spinning all over your precious face. If he does silence you, pre-cast q so you can auto him and get the movement speed and damage reduction. If you can, space out your ghoul harass more so than usual to keep Garen's passive healing to a minimum.

It's ok if you get a little behind because you're still more useful than garen in team fights. Just slow him every chance you get and ult the right people and you should win even if he's fed.

VS

Irelia

Easy

Trade with her every chance you get. Her cooldowns are pretty long early on and your sustain >>> hers. Watch where your ghouls are because she can use them to jump, and if she activates hiten just slow her and walk away until it's down. Try not to oom yourself though.

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

Pretty easy lane, trade with him until he ooms and then trade some more. Make sure to pot up during trades, and try to end them before he can get his passive off twice.

VS

Jax

Easy

No sustain so trade with him as much as possible, a good jax will wait to counterstrike your ghoul autos and your q so keep that in mind. After 6 his power level skyrockets so play it safe and farm, but still try to zone if you can.

VS

Jayce

Easy

Your ghouls block his gate harass, he has no sustain his pushing early on isn't the best and you don't care if he knocks you away. He'll be crying to his jungler in no time!

VS

Kayle

Easy

Back off if she q's you, otherwise trade trade trade. If you force her to heal herself then you've done your job, it's a huge mana sink for the amount of healing it does compared to yours and your slow ghoul doesn't care about the MS boost.

VS

Kennen

Medium

The first few levels suck a little, but after that your ghoul sustain will trump his harass so just hold out until then. Use your little guys to block his shuriken.

VS

Kha'Zix

Easy

Why is he top and not mid? Because he wants 10 cs 20 minutes in is why. If you really want to piss him off, summon your ghouls on him when he wants to go into the bushes or out of vision to charge his passive.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Sustainers are lame, and lee sin is no exception. Farm lane zzz, block his q with your ghouls. If he's not maxing w then spam ghouls on his ass cause he's stupid and deserves to lose lane.

VS

Malphite

Easy

No sustain and mana problems? G FREAKING G WELCOME TO YORICK'S EMPORIUM OF HAPPY FUN TIMES! Obviously don't trade auto's if he groundslams you, but you can use the auto attack reset of q if you want. Your ghoul cast does magic damage but their autos are obviously physical so you don't care as much about his annoying armor as other ad champions. Also make sure that he can't recharge his passive so space your ghoul harass more than you would for other champions.

VS

Nasus

Easy

I haven't played against a Nasus since the recent buffs, but I'd assume his early game is still super weak.

This is a lane where 3134_32.png would be a good investment.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

A good nidalee is very obnoxious. She'll sustain through your harass, and make it hard for you to ghoul out on her. After 6, like jax, her power level jumps, and her cougar pounce doesn't give a shit about your slows. Build tanky and farm what you can. she's like a female yorick just not as beautiful ;)

VS

Olaf

Medium

Never trade in melee range, he will shit all over you. Dodge axes and farm/harass. In teamfights ult your carries and then dive theirs, unless you think you can kill olaf before he kills your carries.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

This would be a lane where armor quints and cloth 5 would be a decent start. Just farm up and play safe and you should win with your sustain.

VS

Poppy

Easy

Like nasus, easy lane easy win.

3134_32.png might be a good option in this lane.

VS

Renekton

Medium

Renekton is an asshole in lane, just like you. Play it cool and farm safely, try not to let him q your ghouls for sustain (you want to sustain off him, not the other way around!) He's strongest around levels 3 and 6 when he gets either all 3 spells or his ultimate. If you're not comfortable with the match up I suggest cloth five and armor quints as he's likely to start 2037_32.png.

VS

Rengar

Easy

I have not seen a rengar yet that will not buy a 2037_32.png as a first item and do wolves/wraiths. Wait it out and if you think he got exp elsewhere, then either do it yourself (better option) or push the lane early to negate the exp advantage but obviously don't do it in a way that will get your lane frozen at the tower. He needs that elixir to not die in lane, once it wears out little kitty is free game.

VS

Riven

Easy

Boring match up. Trade, heal up, trade, heal up, trade, heal up. It's a war of attrition but you'll win unless the riven outplays you. Boots are a viable start here so you can kite her more easily (zzz look at me I'm a bunny rabbit wut r slows). Rivens LOVE to get exp in the jungle and start 2037_32.png So either take jungle yourself or if you see she took damage push slightly, just don't get it frozen at their tower because even if you ward deep you'll still die to ganks.

VS

Rumble

Medium

No cost harass and high damage means you're gonna have a bad time. chalice and spirit visage rush is highly recommended. He's a pain in the ass for melee so play it safe and if he uses flamespitter slow him down and back off. Don't trade autos if he overheats.

VS

Shen

Easy

Spam on his punk ass and he'll drop. You have no way to stop his ult so inform teammates when he's 6 and lay down on him if he's stupid and ults near you. 12.png is a viable summoner in this situation.

VS

Singed

Easy

Singed is little baby and you are strong man, crush little baby before he becomes strong man! Don't get flung into the tower.

VS

Teemo

Easy

Don't waste the q reset if he blinds you, and if you wanna give him the beatdown 3134_32.pngis a good option.

VS

Vladimir

Medium

You need to shut him down before he can farm, if he uses transfusion on something besides you that is your queue go to balls deep early on. When he gets levels in his q and revolver(if he builds it) all you can do is farm. Be careful about diving him unless you bait out pool.

Introduction! Back to Top

Hello, I'm the summoner Kylasi and this is my Yorick guide! Now this is my first guide ever, so any comments would be greatly appreciated!

I hope to share with you my profound love of this lovely sack of rotting flesh that we know as the Grave Digger! In fact, I'd say he's probably one of my most favorite champions in the game (Sorry but Xerath is still king).

I may not be the best Yorick in the world(far from it actually), but I'm still willing to share what I know of this most splendorific of champions! When I do see other people playing him, generally they don't use their revenant to its full potential. I'd like to go into a bit more detail about the whens and whys.

And, sadly, when another champion would be better suited for the top role than lil' ol' Gravedigger :(

Truer words have never been spoken. If it's one thing people fear, it's a revived big dick swinger like 67_icon_64.png69_icon_64.png30_icon_64.png13_icon_64.png55_icon_64.png96_icon_64.pngwho have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Why does nobody like me ;-;

I'm going to assume everyone knows that famous pairing of Hypercarry + Big boy 83_icon_64.png, but what about those other times. You know, when your team doesn't  feel like playing a big dick swinger? On that note, when exactly is a good time to pick Yorick? There's just two, but they're pretty important.

Well, let me just make it clear real quickly what he is not. AN INITIATOR. Honey if you have a team with champs like 7_icon_64.png40_icon_64.png254_icon_64.png(Vi can initiate but she really shouldn't be the only one)for their respective roles you're going to have a bad time.
Likewise, if you have shit for damage like 54_icon_64.png19_icon_64.png33_icon_64.png16_icon_64.png98_icon_64.png76_icon_64.png81_icon_64.png(if he goes full derp mode and builds shit like manamune iceborne as first items. Gooby pls just go Yorick next time) you really should not be picking Yorick. He's a soak, a peeler, and a walking ult, don't be selfish and pick him just because you like him (but you really do like him, don't you?)

In the unlikely event that you didn't listen to me and picked him anyways, ghost will be your best friend as a starter in scenario 1. and damage items like TF,LW, and Maw will be good friends for scenario 2. Initiators and high damage champions are pretty popular though so it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

What exactly is a poor Gravedigger to do when there are no bodies to bury?

We've all been in this scenario before. Someone gets caught but it isn't the carry so you're like wut do? Do I hold their hand for a spell or just let them sink into the ground. Well, two questions you should ask yourself is "If I ult this person, can we turn this fight around?" and "Will I need this cooldown for a more important target before it has time to come back up". A lot of the time I'll either see people ult like let's say the support or jungler and we pick up a kill only to have a carry die 5-20 seconds later. Or don't ult them at all and we lose the teamfight cause let's say someone like 9_icon_64.png89_icon_64.png32_icon_64.png couldn't get their important cooldowns off before they died. Or even worse, they aren't paying attention and DO ult those targets, but oh wait they already used all their cooldowns so all they can do is auto attack for the duration of the ult. Man what a waste!

KYLASI HOW DO I PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING!? Well, as Yorick you should always pay attention to well, everything. But I guess that's how it  goes no matter who you're playing. It's doubly important for Yorick though since your ult can be so gamechanging.

Anecdotal evidence-
Our xin zhao dove into the enemy team and quickly got bursted down, getting them to blow several ults on just himself. A quick rez allowed him to get off another load and draw even more fire away from our ad before falling back down. That was a good use of the ult instead of saving it for someone else. Now let's say that instead of xin diving into their team and getting them to blow important cooldowns he just straight up kills one and dies to normal spells/auto attacks. This is when you should save said ult for a carry, and assume the position of tanky asshole. Or if he gets them to blow cooldowns but you can't continue the fight, go ahead and let him drop and just back off, or you could just use his ghosty form to draw aggro while you make your escape. Or during the fight you can use the ghost on an ad carry and have it auto down their team with little to no risk of harming the real carry.

There is no easy way to describe exactly when you should ult. It all boils down to practice and learning the rhythm. The timing of the revenant and actually controlling it is pretty important too. Yes you can ult someone as they're dying but that's risky. You really need to anticipate damage, and whether it'll kill the ghoul or not. I've killed many a target by ulting them early just for the ghost damage only to have them charge in like an idiot when it's expiring (kinda like zil ult lol). It's actually fairly easy to either focus or aoe down so if you use it early on say the ap caster, order it back a little at first just to make sure you don't 100% waste it. If everything looks hunkey doorey go ahead and tell that lil' guy to auto some bitches down.

Only use the ghost for damage if you target someone with high ad. It isn't going to do shit if you ult a karthus so you can take down towers. You will melt them however with a vayne ghost! Don't forget that ghosty ghost ghost procs your passive so super tower pushing yay!
