Summoner Spells Back to Top

Hello, and welcome to my guide for Ahri!

Before we begin:

This is a guide, made to show and teach others how to play Ahri like I do.
What Masteries and Runes, why these?
What Keystone?
What items and which do you get first?
That and much more is what I will try to explain to all of you through this guide.
You might not agree with my play style, which is fine, you don't need to play like me if you do not want to.
For those who do or are curious, welcome!
Feel free to leave a comment or so, and feel free to ask me questions if there is something you do not understand, I will do my best to explain it to you.
Feel free to leave feedback, or tell me your own thoughts!

The guide will be updated with each patch, sometimes even in between, so be sure to check back here every once in a while!

Welcome, and enjoy my guide!

Summoner Spells.

I have seen a lot of Ahri players play with different Summoner Spells, and I tried them out myself as well, and, I found out that almost any Summoner Spell set works, one better than the other, and depending on the situation. My least favorite set of spells are 4.png7.png, but it can work depending how you use it.

When to take which Summoner Spell:

4.png>>>>>>Is a must-have spell on Ahri, to escape tricky situations or secure a kill!!

4.png14.png>>>>>>Take these spells when you really want, and, are confident that you can, to snowball hard. It can secure a few early game kills, and it reduces your opponent's healing power, so potions will not work as well while 14.png is active.

4.png21.png>>>>>>When facing a burst champion like 134.png7.png55.png84.png157.png238.png you might want to take 21.png the shield might, when timed right, save your life. This spell has saved me many times against Zed's zedr.png and Syndra's syndrar.png

4.png3.png>>>>>>If you think your response time is fast enough, you could take 3.png instead of 21.png against champions like 134.png7.png55.png84.png157.png238.png. Just be sure to time your 3.png very well or it'll go to waste!

4.png6.png>>>>>>With these spells, you either have a big opportunity to escape from your opponent, to engage, or to chase him down. With the Movement Speed gained from ahriorbofdeception.png opponents will have a hard time getting away or catching up to you.

4.png12.png>>>>>>One of my lesser favorite's, but if you are scared to have to farm under tower all the time and want to get back to lane ASAP to not miss any farm, this would be a good option. Plus, it makes it easier to make plays around the map if needed.

4.png7.png>>>>>>Least favorite spell combo, but the heal and the speed you get from it can save your life. The other spell combo's are better in my opinion, but if you wanna try this, go ahead.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

Masteries are quite flexible, I will describe here what I often use as I switch sometimes between them.

The 12/18/0 Route is the route I always take, with ThunderLords as my Keystone.

Ferocity Tree:

Sorcery: You'll be using abilities more often than your basic attacks when trading so this is a must.
Feast: For the sustain in lane. Fresh Blood is an option too, but you don't trade by basic attacking often so I advise against it.
Natural Talent: Free Ability Power is always nice to have. Vampirism is a good option too, for the extra sustain, but you'll miss the extra damage. Decide when you wanna be strong. Want to be strong early? Go Vampirism. Wanna be strong late? Go for Natural Talent.
Bounty Hunter: I always wanna try to snowball, and this mastery will help me with that once I get the first kill. You can go Double Edged Sword to deal extra damage,  but keep in mind you take extra damage too.

 Cunning Tree:

Wanderer: Out of combat movement speed is nice when roaming or wanting to get back to lane faster.
Assassin: You are most of the time (except when getting a gank) alone so this mastery will help you deal more damage. You can go for Secret Stash here to get cookies, but I think Assassin is better.
Merciless: For the extra damage to help you snowball. You don't need Meditation because after you build 3165.png your mana trouble is basically over.
Bandit: Helps me with the extra gold, even more so when you are bad at farming and last hitting. The other two masteries are nice too, Greenfather's Gift is nice since you can proc it anytime, and Dangerous Game gives some sustain when you manage to get a kill.
Intelligence: Increases your Cooldown cap to 45% instead of 40%, giving you the ability to spam skills even faster, which can help you secure a kill or get short enough cooldowns so you can ahritumble.png away to safety or a target more often. As explained with the Hybrid Pen marks, Lethality doesn't fit Ahri right. You can still go for it, but I like the other mastery better.
ThunderLords: Basic Keystone for assassins the extra damage proc can secure you a kill.

If you decide to go down the Resolve Tree, you gain resistances, but lose damage and sustain. When you do, consider these options:

Resolve Tree:

Unyielding or Recovery: Unyielding makes you more tanky, able to survive more hits, but if you take recovery, your health regens faster.
Tough skin: You take less damage from minion attacks this way, comes in handy when trading.
Runic Armor or Veterans Scars: With Runic armor, heals and shields from your support are stronger on you, giving you more sustain. It also helps with your life steal later on. Veterans Scars gives you extra health which is nice.
Insight, Preservance or Fearless: All 3 can be good options. Insight gives you cooldown on your summoner spells, which makes laning a lot safer. Preservance helps you regenerate when wounded, and Fearless is nice if you manage to stick to an enemy and makes you a little tankier.

Skills and maxing order.

A little note:

Ahri is a fun champion, which ability maxing order can differ by playstyle, some want the CC early, others the damage. ALWAYS PUT A POINT IN YOUR ahritumble.png WHEN YOU CAN, THIS NEVER CHANGES. Here the maxing orders for which type:

Damage maxing order:

ahritumble.png--ahriorbofdeception.png--ahrifoxfire.png--ahriseduce.png

Ahri's signature spell is ahriorbofdeception.png, this skill is always maxed first for the wave clear, and ability to heal a lot when combined with your ahripassive.png.
Yes, your ahriseduce.png does a lot of damage at maximum rank, but it's cooldown is too high compared to ahrifoxfire.png, making it in damage terms, fall behind.
Always put a point in your ahritumble.png when you can, it increases it's damage and lowers it's cooldown.

CC maxing skill order:

ahritumble.png--ahriorbofdeception.png--ahriseduce.png--ahrifoxfire.png

Ahri's signature spell is ahriorbofdeception.png, this skill is always maxed first for the wave clear, and ability to heal a lot when combined with your ahripassive.png.
As you level your ahriseduce.png, the effect of it lasts longer and longer, making you able to hit your ahriorbofdeception.png easier and it is nice to make sure your ahrifoxfire.png stick to the enemy champion.
Because your ahriseduce.png has a long cooldown and you max your ahrifoxfire.png last, you'll miss a bit of damage during the mid-game.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Basic start
Start if confident you'll win lane and snowball
Also possible start, but you'll miss a few stats, so only build this if you're sure you'll win.

Core Items

Good items to get on your first back.
Depending how laning goes, finish one of these first. If winning, build Morellonomicon first. If losing/struggling against AP or burst champs, get Banshee's Veil first, or if struggling against AD, get Zhonya's Hourglass first. Finish your boots in between. If you go Abyssal or Zhonya's first, always finish Morellonomicon second!
The must have items for Ahri. If you wanna know which to build when, read description of the items below.

Situational Items

    Read item description below.

Items to build:

Core Items (Always build this!):

3165.png>>>>>>Very cheap for the stats it gives, and an essential item to most AP Midlaners. It gives a lot of mana, 100 AP, and, 20% cooldown, all stats Ahri wants on her. This item is almost always finished first, except when you are falling behind, then, you build 3102.png or 3157.png first (depending if the opponent is AP or AD) and 3165.png second.
3020.png>>>>>>As an AP user and assassin, these boots are best for you. I've seen people go 3111.png, only go this there is a lot of CC! I also have seen 3009.png and 3117.png, but don't get these, you'll lose important combat stats!

Damage items:

3285.png>>>>>>Extra damage and thanks to it's passive, some extra burst. If you don't need to build 3102.png or 3157.png , this is a good second item.

3135.png>>>>>>Penetration always comes in handy on an assassin, so you will most likely build this item as well. If they stack Magic Resist and you're struggling to do damage, build this before 3089.png.

3089.png>>>>>>This item gives you a whopping 120 AP, plus increases your maximum AP by 30%!! If there are no Magic Resist stackers in game yet, you can build this after 3285.png

Situational Items:

3102.png>>>>>>A good item to buy when they have a champs like 55.png7.png134.png

3157.png>>>>>>A good item to buy when they have a champs like238.png157.png5.png

3151.png>>>>>>If you are ahead, you could buy this for some extra AP, Health and Magic Penetration.

3116.png>>>>>>Good item if you want a slow, some extra Health and extra AP. After it's nerfs it lost some strengths, but it could still be a nice final item.

Final Build against AP midlaner:

3165.png3020.png3102.png3135.png3089.png3285.png

Final Build against AD midlaner:

3165.png3020.png3157.png3135.png3089.png3285.png

Burst and against HP stackers:

VS

Ahri

Medium

Unless blind picking, you won't face an other Ahri. If you do, this is a skill based match up. Good luck!

VS

Akali

Hard

With the right items and timing, Akali will burst you down without mercy. She can close huge gaps with her skills, so saving your ahritumble.png to finish her off or to escape to safety is a must. She is ranged though, so try to poke her down from a distance and ask your Jungler for help to get her behind. A fed Akali is no fun at all!

VS

Anivia

Easy

She is really dependent on her combo of  flashfrost.png+frostbite.png for her damage, so as long as you avoid her flashfrost.png you should be good during to early game. Anivia has no escapes, and you are very mobile so when she flees you should be able to chase and kill her. Care from level 6 onwards as she no longer needs flashfrost.png to deal damage with her frostbite.png as she has acess to her glacialstorm.png. Don't fight her in the jungle, she'll block your escape with crystallize.png making you easy pray for her jungler.

As said, without her combo her damage is low so poke her from a distance. Keep in mind that when she dies, she has her aniviapassive.png so don't forget to take it down before she revives!

VS

Annie

Medium

When you fight Annie, it is very important you keep an eye if she has a her stun up or not. If she has it, especially past level 6, she will try to burst you down with a 4.png+infernalguardian.png combo followed by the rest of her skills. Her stun can also be a set up for her Jungler to kill you. Avoid her stun, poke her down is my advice.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Medium

This dragon can be really annoying depending on how much space you give him to farm. His aurelionsolq.png is a rather easy to dodge stun, and by keeping distance or getting close enough you can avoid damage from his aurelionsolw.png. When he has his aurelionsolw.png and he uses aurelionsolr.png you'll be pushed right into it's range and that damage will hurt. Just poke  him down and avoid damage from his aurelionsolw.png and avoid his aurelionsolq.png and you'll be fine. If he gets too close, ahriseduce.png to make him harmless and to slim his aurelionsolw.png down.

Care once he has the 3027.png3116.png3151.png his aurelionsolw.png will make it hard for you to escape and it will deal insane damage, plus, it makes him tanky and he doesn't seem to run out of mana! Snowball before he gets these items.

VS

Azir

Hard

Not much you can do here but farm at a distance and call in help from your Jungler. His poke is insane and he can block your escapes with his azirr.png which makes this lane even harder.

VS

Brand

Medium

A champion with high damage, but, like you, also depends on skill shots. This is basically a match up, and whomever hits the skill shots the best wins.

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium

That annoying snake. Early game her damage might not be that high, but that is not what makes her so damn annoying. Her cassiopeiaw.png is what makes her annoying. When in the middle of the fight she can use her cassiopeiaw.png which slows you and makes you unable to 4.png away or use your ahritumble.png!! Plus the annoying cassiopeiaq.png is on a low cooldown and when she hits this skill she has sustain with her cassiopeiae.png. Farm from a distance and stay out of her cassiopeiaw.png and care for her cassiopeiar.png past level 6, if you can avoid all that, she is an easy kill.

VS

Katarina

Medium

Same as with Akali, don't let her snowball on you. If she does, you're screwed and most likely will be one shot all the time. Disable her katarinar.png with your ahriseduce.png whenever you can to screw up her damage, and poke her with your ahriorbofdeception.png as she is a melee champ and you are not.

VS

Kayle

Medium

Early game before she has her items this is a easy match up. Put her behind so she cannot stack her attack speed items. If she does, you can be in trouble, especially when she has her judicatorintervention.png. With enough cooldown Kayle is a permanent ranged champion thanks to judicatorrighteousfury.png. She also has a heal judicatordivineblessing.png and a slow judicatorreckoning.png so keep that in mind.

VS

Lissandra

Easy

Poke her with your ahriorbofdeception.png since her lissandraq.png has a short range. Make sure you walk away when you see her lissandrae.png coming, or she'll lissandraw.png you in place. After level 6 be sure to not randomly waste your skills on an all in, otherwise she'll survive with lissandrar.png. She can also use this to engage on you, another reason to stay away from her lissandrae.png

VS

Lulu

Easy

A slow on her luluq.png her ability to transform you with luluw.png a shield on her lulue.png and gaining health and a knock up with her lulur.png makes her more annoying than anything else, so get her behind early and you should do fine. Keep your distance, poke with ahriorbofdeception.png and stay away from that knock up. Her damage falls off late game compared to yours.

VS

Lux

Medium

Like with Brand, this is a skill match up. Who hits her skills will win the battle, no matter how it turns out. An early 3001.png might help against her and ignore a little of her burst

VS

Malzahar

Hard

Very annoying and hard to deal with thanks to his malzaharw.png and malzahare.png. The damage these two skills can do is insane, and the silence on malzaharq.png doesn't make it any better. If you survive a lockdown from malzaharr.png make sure you ahritumble.png before you get finished off. farm behind minions and get your Jungler help you put him behind.

VS

Morgana

Medium

On early levels her tormentedsoil.png doesn't do much damage. Just avoid her darkbindingmissile.png cause at max rank it is a 3 second snare. Burn through her blackshield.png before you ahriseduce.png otherwise you'll waste the CC. If she 4.png+soulshackles.png, you can ahritumble.png away to prevent the snare from happening.

VS

Orianna

Easy

You can see her orianaizunacommand.png coming from a distance, so stay away from it so you don't get hit by orianadissonancecommand.png and farm with your ahriorbofdeception.png. She just is very annoying to take down because I often see her go 4.png21.png against me, giving her an extra shield on top of her orianaredactcommand.png. After level 6 be more careful of her orianaizunacommand.png because she'll combo it with orianadetonatecommand.png which could mean your doom. Trade with her or try to kill her when her orianaredactcommand.png is down.

VS

Syndra

Medium

As long as you can avoid her skills, you are good. Summoner spells 4.png21.png are good here since you can block a lot of damage form her syndrar.png with it. If you can guess where her syndrae.png will land and if you can dodge her syndraq.png and syndraw.png you can poke her with ahriorbofdeception.png and ahrifoxfire.png and should be fine. Skill match up mostly.

VS

Taliyah

Hard

Her damage output is high, she can block your escape and she can throw you onto rough terrain, dealing insane damage, slowing you and easily procing her ThunderLord mastery. Play safe, farm behind minions and ask your Jungler for a gank and you should be golden as long as you avoid her taliyahe.png+taliyahwvc.png combo.

VS

Twisted Fate

Medium

Avoind his pickacard.png Gold card, and dodge his wildcards.png and you're golden.

VS

Veigar

Medium

Prevent him from getting farm by harassing him and avoid his skills so he can't stack AP and he will be weak throughout the game.

VS

Vel'Koz

Medium

He deals insane damage even with little items, so avoiding his skills and true damage are a must if you want to win this lane. His velkozq.png has long range, his velkozw.png has two stacks to quickly waveclear and he has a knock up with his velkoze.png so care of that, cause if you get hit finishing you off with velkozr.png will be easy for him.

About Me Back to Top

Hi! I am CrystalWolf, a League player from the Netherlands.

I made an account back in 2013, because a friend thought I would love the game, but since he forced it on me a little and explained nothing I never really played.
This was until 2015 or so, when a new friend of mine who also plays League calmly and quietly taught me how to play the game, how it works with runes and masteries, everything. Ever since then, I play League on an almost daily basis. I started with ARAM's, and started practicing on Summoner's Rift much later.
Despite that, I became GOLD V in season 5, and ended in GOLD III in season 6, because I had not enough time and focus to play due to private reasons. My friend told me if I had more time, I could have easily reached Platinum.
Oh well, better luck this season right?

I main the Support Role, but I also like to play ADC or Mid-Lane. Jungle is fun too but I still need to get used to the new changes. Sometimes I play Top, but only when I am playing solo as my friend loves the Top-Lane. My favorite champions are Nami and Ashe, but I play lots of others.

The guide is not completely done yet, so please be patient.

Why do I play Ahri? Back to Top

The new Mid-Lane

The first few months of playing League, I always played ADC.
No matter where I went and which lane I got, the ADC champs were always mine.
My friend told me that if I wanted to get better and play ranked once I was level 30, I had to learn new champions because with just ADC's I wouldn't make it.
This is where Ahri came in.

At first I did not like the sound of her skills too much, but still, I decided to try her out once she was free to play.
I never regretted that choice.
Ahri is quite a mobile champion, with a bit of CC and high damage output.
What made her even better, was the heal on her ahripassive.png combined with hitting minions with ahriorbofdeception.png, since I always struggled staying alive, but this skill helped me with surviving lane, or trades with the opponent.
Her ahriseduce.png is really nice CC, and with the enemy walking up to me harmless, made landing my ahriorbofdeception.png and making sure my ahrifoxfire.png hit the opponent was easy.
In times of trouble, I was also happy to have Ahri, since at level 6, she had great escape opportunities with 4.png and ahritumble.png. Ever since then, Ahri has been one of my favorite Mid-Lane champions.

Note about matchups... Back to Top

It's hard to decide if a match up is easy, medium or hard.

This has a few reasons:

*Your skill with Ahri. If you are a beginner, a lot of the enemies might be hard to lane against.
*Opponent's skills. If your opponent is very skilled with his champion, you can be in for a rough time, no matter your own skill level.
*Your ability to farm and last hit. Being pushed in all the time is not really a terrible thing, as long as you can farm under your tower.
*Your abilities are skill shots. Which means you actually have to aim your skills, and you can miss them, if you hit all skills, no problem, you are fine! If you miss everything... well... good luck I guess?
*Masteries and Runes. Picking the wrong rune page can make the game a lot harder for you, same goes for picking wrong masteries!
*Entrances to both side lanes. Yes, every lane has it's risk of getting ganked, but, Top and Bot mostly get ganked only from one side, and every mid-laner can be hit from two sides.

So the descriptions above is what I generally find easy, medium or hard, not saying it always is.
Still editing the match up section too so not for all champs is there a description.
