Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.pngFlash in necessary in every situation. It is just the best summoner spell.

14.pngIgnite is a good summoner spell and is going to be your main summoner spell because it puts a lot of kill pressure in lane.

1.pngCleanse is a situational summoner spell that you only want to take in certain matchups. Against champions like Twisted Fate or Zoe, you will want to take this spell to counter their crowd control.

21.pngI almost never take this summoner spell, but this can be viable against champions that have very telegraphed burst(Zed/Ekko)

12.pngTeleport can be viable in a poke matchup where you want to stay as close in cs as possible. I personally don't use this spell since I start 1082.png making enemy poke less potent. If you have 1082.png and you're good enough to dodge most poke damage, then teleport isn't really necessary. I also highly advise players that are below Diamond4 to not take teleport. Mainly because most players below that rank have no idea how to make proper teleport plays and/or that have really bad macro play.

New Runes Back to Top

Predator.png?width=32Predator is a good rune when you know you can win mid lane and can roam on the map. Having predator is very good because Annie's main engage is flash ult. With predator, you can just run the enemies down and ult.

Electrocute.png?width=32Electrocute has a lot less utility but it makes up for in dealing a lot of damage. I personally don't like using this because I end up 1 shotting carries as Annie even with predator. This can be a good alternative if you want to start domination first and know that you won't be able to roam and make use of predator.

cheap%20shot1.png?width=32Cheap Shot is a by far the best rune in this line because a lot of Annie's damage comes after the target is stunned.

Eyeball%20Collection.png?width=32This runes helps you snowball harder by giving you more AP. For the sake of climbing out of low elo, you should stay away from Zombie%20Ward.png?width=32 and Ghost%20Poro.png?width=32

Ultimate%20Hunter.png?width=32This rune could be swapped with Ingenious%20Hunter.png?width=32 but because of the recent nerfs to 2065.png I tend not to use that rune anymore. Annie's ult is usually the make or break of a team fight, and having it off cooldown is really helpful in trying to win team fights.

Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32Manaflow band might seem like a bad rune because Annie doesn't really run out of mana spamming Q, However, a good Annie player will know when to use W to push waves or get instant stuns. Manaflow helps with keeping your mana in check when you are using abilities that aren't Q.

Scorch.png?width=32Scorch could be replaced with Gathering%20Storm.png?width=32or Waterwalking.png?width=32. In the current meta where a lot of games end in the early game, gathering storm is not as potent. Paired with predator, waterwalking could be good but for the sake of escaping low elo you should probably leave this rune alone.

anniepassive.pngAfter you cast 4 spells, your next offensive spell will stun the target. When you are at 4 stacks Annie will get a little spiral around her which will scare away a lot of players. You don't want this since they will play far back until the passive is gone. So a good trick is to leave your passive at 3 stacks. Since your moltenshield.png is instant, you can use your moltenshield.png and then quickly use another ability. This will catch a lot of players off guard because they didn't see the spiral. A good combo is to get to 3 stacks and then use moltenshield.png and incinerate.png. Both abilities are instant and it is a very quick and easy way to get free harass. If you use moltenshield.png and disintegrate.png they will have time to react. If you are playing against a champ that can block spells like Sivir, do not use Q in the fast combo because Q is very slow.

disintegrate.pngThis ability is your bread and butter in lane. When you last hit a minion with it, not only does it refund mana, but it also reduces the cooldown of it. This means you can last hit with Q without any problems. When CSing under tower it is important to stand right next to the minion before you press Q. The reason for this is because the closer you are to the minion, the faster it dies(When calculating missile speed of a projectile). If you max range your Q on a minion, the turret shot will kill the minion before the fireball hits, thus losing the cs, mana, and cooldown which will make you lose more minions. A tip for fighting a 1v1, if you have your stun ready, always open with Q. This way the opponent has 0% chance of dodging it, mainly because it is a point and click spell.

incinerate.pngThis ability is very good for trading in lane because it is instant, making it so the enemy cant react to it. Never open with this ability in team fights as stunning multiple enemies is safer and easier when you use your ult instead.

moltenshield.pngWhile in lane, it is not necessary to use this ability to stack your passive because you will be stacking it when you cs with Q. Since it's only 20 mana, you can spam this ability to prep your stun when you can't stack your stun otherwise.

infernalguardian.pngHere is the big bear. He does tons of damage when you drop him on your enemies and he is your main tool for teamfighting. You need to make sure you hit priority targets or a group of people with this ability to make good use of it. If you're roaming while tibbers is alive, you can make tibbers go an alternate route to scout ahead while you take the main route. You could make an argument saying that if you get caught and tibbers is not with you that you will die. But if you're roaming as Annie you should already have your stun ready. So if you see an enemy in the river, all you need to do is stun them and walk away. While your recalling it is important to make tibbers run away from you to get more vision. There is no point in letting tibbers stand still while you recall, so the best thing you can do at this time is make him walk around in fog of war and act as a ward.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Good standard
Only take this if you are in a poke lane

Core Items

Since this meta is all about the early game, items like RoA are not as good anymore. Thus making early spiking items more important when building. Against AD you want to start zhonyas, otherwise go morellos.
These boots are a must have. It gives you magic pen which is amazing on a champion like Annie
Get these two after your core items. Annie has a lot of burst but not a lot of DPS. In order to maximize her her DPS you will want stick to your opponents so taht you can throw out more abilities. Liandry's helps with your DPS because it adds a burn affect.

Situational Items

Only get if the enemies are stacking magic resist
This is a good item to get when you are ahead and want to maximize on your damage
This item is a good replacement for shurelya's since it's nerf. I personally don't build this item
This item is good, but not in this meta. If the meta switches to a more late game meta, then you can build this
DO NOT GET THIS ITEM. It is a noob trap. All this item does is increase your burst output. With the current build you will already be 1-shotting carries. You will lose a lot of DPS towards tanks which is bad
Can be good against heavy AP

VS

Ahri

Hard

A good ahri player will know when to ult all in when you are not close to stacking passive. In lane remember to max range your Q when CSing to dodge ahri ahriorbofdeception.pngQ. Remember to stand behind minions to dodge charm.

VS

Akali

Easy

She is very easy to poke pre6. If you do a good job poking her out and denying CS, this lane will be very easy. If you are unable to deny her enough cs buy the time she hits 6 with a revolver, the lane is over.

VS

Anivia

Hard

This is a farm matchup. A good anivia will make it impossible to kill her. She has better waveclear which means she will always have lane priority.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Medium

This matchup is very skilled base. Aurelion needs to have incredible spacing if he wants to survive this matchup. You need to stay out of his range or be very close to him, do not hesitate our he will punish you very hard. If you have stun and he runs at you with Q, do not run away. Instead throw a Q back at him. This way both of your are stunned and nothing happens.

VS

Azir

Hard

Azir is very hard to get to. He will Q slow you and use E/R to disengage. He also had better waveclear then you which means he always has lane priority over you.

VS

Brand

Easy

This match is all on your ability to dodge abilities. This applies to pretty much anyone laning against brand. If you know how to dodge, this lane is very easy.

VS

Ekko

Easy

Maybe all of the ekko's I play against are bad, but I personally feel like this matchup is very easy for Annie. If you dodge his Q he can't burst you. If he runs at you, stun him and walk away. If you don't have stun then you should play far back and cs with Q. Do not underestimate his burst. If you get hit with his Q, he will deal a lot of damage by proccing his passive.

VS

Fizz

Medium

Just like Akali, you need to crush him early if you want to win later. If you get hit by his ult, your already dead(unless you have 3157.png). Without his ult, fizz cant do much to you if you have stun readyanniepassive.png

VS

Galio

Hard

He doesn't die, and you won't either. He also has good waveclear and better roam potential then you. The only way you win this is if you can poke him low enough so that he cannot roam. You will want to go Electrocute.png?width=32here. You cannot match his roam so don't even try. It's better to go more damage to match lane phase presence.

VS

Karthus

Easy

I have no experience here. This matchup sounds really easy for Annie though.

VS

Kassadin

Medium

Same deal as Akali and Fizz

VS

Katarina

Easy

Do not walk up unless you have stun. If you have stun, there is literally nothing Katarina can do to you. Play safe by CSing with Q and play aggro when you have stun.

VS

Kennen

Medium

I have no experience here. I also have no theoretical playouts in this matchup.

VS

LeBlanc

Hard

LB can W in and W out without a problem. I can't just say to play far back and CS with Q without stun in this matchup because she can just distort back which means she can play as far up as she wants. There is nothing Annie can do in this matchup unless the LB messes up really hard. Jungle pressure is key to winning this matchup.

VS

Lissandra

Medium

I have no experience here.

VS

Lux

Hard

Start dark seal, CS as best as possible and take 1.png in this matchup. If you get hit with Q, you are dead unless you can cleanse it.

VS

Morgana

Hard

Unless she walks up to your W, there is no way that you can kill her unless you expend flash and use your infernalguardian.png. However smart Morgana players will run cleanse in this matchup and it will counteract your flash. She has better waveclear then you and will always have lane priority.

VS

Orianna

Hard

All she does is poke and waveclear, she will not die to you unless she misplays. Just CS as best as possible, all that you can do is match her in teamfight by getting a better ult/and or doing it before she does. Both of your ults are game breakers and will decide who wins the teamfight.

VS

Syndra

Medium

I have no experience here. I can imagine Syndra just pushing in the wave constantly and having lane priority. However you have more kill pressure in lane since her kills take longer to set up.

VS

Taliyah

Hard

She does not die, she will push, she will roam. Sadly you cant do anything about it.

VS

Talon

Easy

Same deal as Ekko. This match can be very easy if you know how to space and not get caught by his W. Just like Ekko, if you get hit by both hits of his W you are dead. Rush 3157.png in this match and you should be fine.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

He roams better then you but you have so much more lane dominance over him. If you do not pressure him enough he will roam like a monster and end the game. If you can stop him from roaming then you will win the lane as he does nothing in lane. MAKE SURE TO TAKE 1.png or you will die to jungler ganks constantly.

VS

Veigar

Easy

I have no experience here. I imagine poking him out before he can stack up before he turns into a monster. In general if the game stalls to very late you will lose to him. If not, you win. Make sure to win team fights and press leads or he will take over games.

VS

Vel'Koz

Hard

Poke heavy lane and has godlike waveclear. He will not die and will try to roam, unlike Galio or Taliyah, his roams are not that strong so you can actually match his roams with Predator.png?width=32

VS

Vladimir

Hard

I have no experience here. But i have laned against vlad as other champs and seeing how he is a lane bully, he might be a problem during lane. However early game is vladimir's weakest point so you might be able to abuse it. 3165.png will be your first item as it reduces his healing.

VS

Xerath

Hard

Poke heavy lane, not good for annie since she has no range to combat it.

VS

Yasuo

Hard

Spacing against yasuo is hard since he can his E on the minion wave to invade your space. His windwall also nullifies your disintegrate.png. Remember that incinerate.pngis not a projectile and that it will go through windwall.

VS

Zed

Hard

If you are unable to dodge Zed's poke, this lane will be very difficult. A good zed player will try and all in you or poke you when you do not have stun. Zed has a very long poke range thus making this lane pretty difficult for Annie.

VS

Ziggs

Medium

Ziggs has a lot of waveclear and will always have lane priority. His roams are not that good so you can match him with Predator.png?width=32Remember to shove your wave before roaming or Ziggs will destroy your tower with his ziggsw.png Your kill pressure in lane will be a lot higher then his since he is a poke champ and not someone that can win a brute fight. If you act aggro in lane and apply pressure he won't be able to push/roam effectively.

VS

Zilean

Hard

All he does is waveclear and he wont die due to his chronoshift.png. You will not necessarily win or lose lane, just go even. Match him in team fights by getting a big ult and stunning Zilean so he cannot ult his allies.

VS

Zoe

Medium

As long as you don't get hit by her sleep move, you will not die to her in lane. She as pretty safe waveclear and will try to get lane priority over you. Both you and Zoe's all in potential is very strong, but Zoe needs to hit her E if she wants to kill you. So by default you will have more kill pressure in lane. You can take 1.png if you don't feel comfortable in this matchup but I personally don't since I win most of the time.

Why Annie? Back to Top

Why not 238.png , 157.png or anyone that's flashy and cool? The reason why I tell a lot of players to stay away from those champions is because they are hard to play. Now that's a very obvious answer but playing those types of champions won't make you better as a player unless you already have the core fundamentals down. Most players don't even realize what the core fundamentals are until they hit mid Diamond. The reason for that is because everyone is focusing on what combos their champion can do or what could happen if I do X combo in this order. There are too many variables to think of when playing hard champions that players forget to pay attention to what really matters. The core fundamentals. A champion like Annie is perfect for learning the core fundamentals. It doesn't matter which order you rotate your spells, it will all deal the same damage regardless. There isn't much to think about when playing Annie, thus making it easier to pay attention and learn the core fundamentals.

What are the core fundamentals?
  • Trading
  • Warding
  • Minimap Awareness
  • Mouse accuracy
  • Mouse speed
  • Spacing
  • CS'ing
  • "Combos"
Here are some fundamentals that you don't need to learn.
  • Flashy outplays
  • Cheeses
  • Lane swaps
  • Counter picks
Annie is one of the best champions when it comes to helping you with learning the core fundamentals of the game. Annie teaches you good timings for trading because you will always want to trade when your stun is ready. Spacing is very key on any range champion. There is no point in closing in that range when you can max range it. Mouse accuracy/speed is not related to Annie at all but it is a core fundamental so I listed it down. When you play as Annie you don't need to focus on your champion as much and you can start focusing on your gameplay, in doing so, it will give you more time to look at your minimap thus improving your map awareness. Combos are straight forward with Annie, open with Q in a 1v1 or R in a team fight, and then follow up with your other abilities.

Champions like 238.png or 157.png can utilize flash outplays better then Annie, but a lot of the time it leads to a mechanical misplay. You don't need to look cool with a youtube montage to be a good player. Flashy plays are not necessary at all in low elo. You can see pro/top players doing them all the time in their elo but that's because they can afford to. In high elo where everyone has the core fundamentals down, what differentiates a player from another are their extra fundamentals. It's like building a house, your core fundamentals are your bricks. You can keep stacking bricks but eventually stacking bricks won't be appealing anymore. That's where you want to start adding your furniture, spice it up. It's just like your league of legends fundamentals. You don't need to learn all the extra flashy plays at such a low rank. The higher up you go, the more important those extra fundamentals become. This is why I tell players to play Annie when I coach them. She is great at helping players improve at the game which can lead the player to then branch off into more complicated champions.
