Summoner Spells Back to Top

Flash:
Teleports your champion a short distance toward your cursor's location.

A must on 268.png. With his azirr.png, being able to instantly reposition yourself to get that sick azirr.png off is extremely important for outplays and to give your insec more range. It is also important to have to get yourself out of a sticky situation and stay alive. You will almost always take 4.png with Azir, he utilizes it not just as an escape or engage but also in conjunction with his azirr.png.

Barrier:
Shields your champion for 115 - 455 (based on level) for 2 seconds.

A good second choice, and my personal favorite. Stops champions like 84.png245.png105.png126.png38.png from igniting you to death early on, and gives 268.png a bit of room to make plays without killing himself. Doesn't have as much impact late game, but overall a safe summoner spell, take it most of the time.

Heal:
Heals the caster and the target nearest to the cursor (prioritizes the most wounded allied champion if no allied champions are near the cursor) for 90 - 345 (based on level) health, also increasing both targets' movement speed by 30% for 1 second.

A lot of the same benefits as 21.png, however I don't like to take this due to the fact that a lot of mid-laners take 14.png now, which directly counters this summoner spell. If you know that the enemy won't be taking 14.png, this is a good substitute for 21.png as it gives more HP and doesn't go away after 2 seconds. In teamfights this can be a good summoner spell but your ADC will likely also have it, so if your ADC pops one it isn't usually worth to pop yours.

Exhausts target enemy champion, Slow icon slowing them by 30%, and reducing their damage dealt by 40% for 2.5 seconds.

Another good choice on 268.png, not only slows down champs so 268.png can get in more AA's, but also can stop assassins from bursting you down. Take it against assassins like 238.png91.png84.png, or if you are certain you can win lane.

After channeling for 4.5 seconds, your champion teleports to target turret, minion or ward. You may reactivate Teleport to cancel it, placing it on a 200 second cooldown.

Good for map presence and rotations, however taking this means sacrificing a summoner spell that could keep you safe in lane. This is one of the better lategame summoner spells, but play safe in laning phase with this.

Ignites an enemy champion, dealing 70 - 410 (based on level) true damage over 5 seconds, applying Grievous Wounds icon Grievous Wounds and revealing them for the duration. The Sight icon sight will not reveal stealth champions.

I don't like it personally, but some people play with it a lot. It can be helpful with early lane kills. Azir isn't usually in close proximity to enemy champions though, especially during late game, and when he is (i.e. Azirsec) it is usually better to take a spell that can help you survive it, like barrier. I don't like this one because it encourages you NOT to play safe, which can get Azir killed very quickly. Only take if you are CERTAIN you can get an early lead or if against healing tanks (i.e. Vladimir, Swain).

Removes all disables (excluding Suppression icon Suppression) and summoner spells debuffs affecting your champion and grants 65% crowd control reduction for 3 seconds.

A situational summoner spell, but if against the right matchup can prove extremely useful. Take it against heavy CC comps or against a CC dependent all-in laner, such as 134.png or 99.png, but otherwise it is usually better to take one of the above summoner spell.

Your champion is granted Ghost ghosting for 10 seconds, gaining increased movement speed. Grants a maximum of 28% - 45% (based on level) movement speed after accelerating for 2 seconds.

Can be OK for chasing down targets, something which Azir isn't great at, but Azir already has long enough range as it is, and his Shuriman Shuffle is great for getting him across long distances quickly already, so the benefits are outweighed by the costs. Late game this can help Azir escape, but 4.png combined with his Shuriman Shuffle can usually do a better job. I don't take this one at all, it doesn't work well with Azir's kit.

Masteries Back to Top

This is the standard mastery page for Azir, Thunderlords is the #1 Keystone because it gives Azir very good poke during laning phase, and allows him to quickly burst targets in the mid to late game.

Ferocity

Fury: I take 5 points in Fury because Azir actually makes good use of 4% AS than the 2% AP that he gets from Sorcery

Feast: This allows Azir to stay healthy during laning phase and gives him a tiny bit of sustain to help him stay in lane

Natural Talent: The increased AP is more helpful than  spellvamp, this is especially because Azir doesn't rely on spellvamp due to him being a backline marksman.

Bounty Hunter: Azir is very good at killing squishies and tanks alike, so you can expect to kill every enemy at least once per game due to your raw damage, so this is good for Azir


Cunning


Savagery: Helps Azir CS early on easier, better than Wanderer because Azir is not very good at roaming

Secret Stash: Helps Azir stay in lane longer due to more health and mana regen


Merciless: Mana does not become a huge problem if you aren't spamming, more execution damage is better

Dangerous Game: Azir is good at getting a lot of kills and assists because of his ability to damage enemies from afar, this helps keep you in the fight longer as you backline


Precision: Azir values MPen more than CDR


Thunderlord's: Synergizes well with Azir's soldiers, in laning it is very useful for poke and out of lane it helps burst down carries fast

Maxing Order


Very simply, the order that you max your skills will always be azirr.png > azirqwrapper.png > azirw.png > azirewrapper.png

Maxing your azirr.png first gives it more damage, lower cooldown, and most importantly it enlarges the wall so that you are able to catch more enemies with it, make more of an impact when ulting, and ult more often.

Maxing your azirqwrapper.png second gives you a lot of poke damage, which is important because your azirqwrapper.png will be most of the damage that you will deal as poke in laning phase. It also lowers the cooldown so that you are able to reposition your soldiers sooner, which is crucial as if Azir doesn't have properly positioned soldiers he may as well be a walking ward.

Maxing your azirw.png third gives you passive bonus attack speed and lower cooldown on you soldier's recharge, which is great for mid game where skirmishes and teamfighing start to happen, but it isn't as good in laning where your opponent will just step out of the soldier's attack range.

Maxing your azirewrapper.png last gives you decreased cooldown, increased magic damage, and an increased shield. You max this last because the magic damage and shield as not very valuable to Azir as you shouldn't be using this as a fighting tool most of the time, rather you should be using this as an escape tool.

Core Items

    This is what you would get in about 70% of games, is the most useful for dealing the maximum damage possible and killing tanks.
    This is extremely oppressive and powerful against squishy comps and for single-target assassinations
    Gives Azir a better mid-game and laning phase, but personally I don't like it too much because there are just better synergies out there

Situational Items

    You will purchase this in most games, damage for Azir = good
    Not a necessary item anymore since the nerf, but still very useful against champions that depend on MS to gapclose, like Hecarim or Warwick
    Very good against AD assassins and burst comps
    Is broken right now vs most AP laner's, especially fucks over Lux and Viegar as the spellshield paired with the MR is just too good.
    Very good item vs. Tanks, synergizes especially well with Rylais but can work well without it.
    Sorc shoes is what you take most of the time, but Beserkers can be rarely taken against EXTREMELY tanky team comps

Triple 1056.png helps you stay relevant because rushing 3285.png is extremely expensive, so it is there to make up for the lack of AP early on. This build works best if you rush 3285.png and 3135.png, however if necessary you build 3157.png/3102.png earlier

Not a very common matchup, however 266.png can easily jump on 268.png and obliterate him, keeping your distance while farming so that he can't get you with his aatroxq.png, playing very safe, and not letting him snowball is your best bet.

If the 103.png is good, this is one of the hardest AP matchups in the entire game. If the 103.png is bad, you have a free lane.


103.png strength over 268.png is that her ahritumble.png is extremely useful in staying mobile and avoiding soldier damage, and her ahriseduce.png > ahriorbofdeception.png > ahrifoxfire.png combo will put you to near death levels, opening you up for her to 14.png you with little room to escape or counterplay. However, if the 103.png is inexperienced an easy thing to do is to bait 103.png to engage you by your tower. You simply azirr.png  103.png into the tower, and most inexperienced 103.png will try to ahritumble.png through your azirr.png, resulting in her bouncing back and dying to turret easily. This is by far the most consistent and easy to way to win against bad 103.png players.

Akali

Easy

An extremely easy matchup for 268.png if played right. Pre-6 use your azirqwrapper.png to heavily harrass and poke 84.png and deny her as much CS as possible. It will be extremely hard for 84.png to CS through the poke. You want to poke for two reasons: So that you can get your level 6 before her and so that when you do hit 6, you can all in her with the good old azirw.png > azirewrapper.png > azirqwrapper.png > azirr.png combo. Post-6, you want to kind of play the opposite. Hug your tower and when 84.png uses akalishadowdance.pngazirr.png her into tower and use azirr.png to kite around her, result in usually a free kill as 84.png has no escapes otherwise. If not played carefully this matchup can go very badly if 84.pngi manages to get fed off roaming or if you make mistakes in lane and die to 84.png. To prevent this, always have vision and be mindful of the enemy jungler and spam ping when 84.png roams.

Medium

Report him for trolling, easy. His only real engage is his headbutt.png > pulverize.png, which is very linear and easy to play around.

Amumu

Easy

The only thing you need to worry about is his bandagetoss.png, apart from that he has no way to get to you and you can deny him CS all you want

A slightly more skill-based matchup, her flashfrost.png can be very deadly if it connects, but being careful usually is enough to dodge most of them. Just farm this lane out, and I would reccomend taking 1.png so that you don't get caught out by a flashfrost.png

Easy

You need to know what you are doing in this lane or else you will be destroyed. Farm safely with azirw.png as much as you can and pull back every time 1.png has her passive up. Post-6 you need to watch out for her 4.png > infernalguardian.png combo as it will one shot you, even if she isn't fed. Taking 1.png is a good way to get out of a bad spot ASAP, 21.png doesn't provide enough protection against 1.png

You outdamage and outrange 22.png, just watch out for her enchantedcrystalarrow.png

Aurelion Sol

Medium

Focus on not getting hit by aurelionsolq.png, or else you will be chunked hard. His aurelionsolw.png is more deadly than it seems, use azirewrapper.png to dash out if you are getting bopped. Make sure to spam ping missing if 136.png is not in lane, his aurelionsole.png provides for extremely fast rotations and he can get fed off of your side lanes

You outrange and outdamage 432.png, just be careful if he walks up to bardq.png you, because he can burst faster than expected

A hard AP matchup because brandw.png is a long range ability that chunks a lot of your HP easily, and it is hard to dodge if the 63.png is good. He also has an almost guaranteed kill with his all in brandr.png. Get 3020.png and 3102.png to dodge his abilities easier and to mitigate what damage you can.

Don't get hit by braumq.png and just deny his CS, easy

51.png doesn't have as much single target DPS as other ADC's, you outdamage and outrange her, just be careful of getting caught by caitlynyordletrap.png and you should be ok

Dangerous lane for 268.pngcamillee.png and camillew.png and extremely good for 164.png as tools to stick onto you, and her camilleq.png will almost one-shot squishy 268.png. The only way to escape camiller.png is to azirr.png her out of it. Try to play as far back as possible and just run at any sign of danger, very easy for 164.png to just all in you and kill you.

Cassiopeia

Medium

If you can get past laning phase, this isn't so bad, but during laning phase 69.png has the advantage with her empowered cassiopeiae.png being able to shred your HP, and her cassiopeiaw.png stopping your azirewrapper.png. Play this lane carefully, focus on dodging her cassiopeiaq.png and farm and you will eventually outscale her.

This is actually a surprisingly dangerous matchup, as it is very easy for 31.png to all in you post-6 with rupture.png > feralscream.png > feast.png31.png is a very snowbally champion, and he will run all over you if you aren't careful, your best bet is to just farm as safe as possible and build 3116.png to kite him.

Corki

Medium

A tougher matchup, but not impossible. 42.png has extremely high poke with his phosphorusbomb.png and missilebarrage.png, to avoid his missilebarrage.png you can just stand behind minions and rushing 3020.png is good to juke his Q. This is mostly a farm lane, however be careful because 42.png can engage quickly with carpetbomb.png and burst you down if you aren't paying attention.

Darius

Easy

A very easy matchup. Get 3116.png and 122.png has no way of getting to you. However, if he manages to dariusaxegrabcone.png you, azirewrapper.png out immediately before he dariuscleave.png and dariusnoxiantacticsonh.png, or you will almost certainly die

Medium

Plays much like 84.png, pre-6 abuse as hard as you can, being mindful to dodge dianaarc.png as it will chunk you down if you aren't careful, however post-6 this becomes a bit harder because 131.png can very easily 100-0 you with dianateleport.png much faster than 84.png can. Use azirr.png to shove her under turret, take care to not get hit with dianaarc.png post-6, and you should be good to go.

Dr. Mundo

Easy

Build 3116.png early, take 14.png, don't get hit by infectedcleavermissilecast.png, and it should be a free lane

Draven

Easy
119.png can run you down easily using dravenfury.png if you aren't careful, and his dravenspinning.png can shred you fast, just utilize your range and poke him from afar and you should be fine.

Ekko

Medium

A tough matchup, 245.png can very easily gapclose with ekkoe.png and all in you for massive burst, and especially post-6 he can do so very safely with ekkor.png. If you don't get rolling pre-6, farm is out as safe as you can.Take care and play back to not get caught out by his ekkoe.png, and you should be mostly safe.

Easy

If she can't use elisehumane.png to get you, she will have to Rappel, and if she does you can just azirr.png her back or into tower. The most dangerous thing to watch out for is to not get hit by elisehumanw.png, because it deals a lot of damage, however it is generally easy to let minions aggro it instead.

Evelynn

Easy

Easy to lane against, just abuse her hard and deny her CS, and just be careful is she tries to run you down with evelynnw.png3116.png is a good item to stop her from running you down.
