Blitzcrank shoots a hook forward, grabbing the first enemy hit, and bringing them to him.
  • This is Blitzcrank's main ability, and his main threat, all players you will play against will fear Blitzcrank's hook like no other ability
  • During the laning phase move forward past the minion wave to land an easy hook, or to threaten the enemy Bot lane away.
  • When setting up a gank, look to run on top of the enemy, and E powerfist.png  them before 

overdrive.png Overdrive

Blitzcrank gains movement speed that decays over time, and briefly slows Blitzcrank at the end of the duration.
  • Use this to gain distance on enemies when engaging, or running away from them
  • Don't spam this in lane, or you will waste mana

Early Game Back to Top

Early Game Blitzcrank makes all bot lanes afraid of the threat of his hook rocketgrab.png if you can land a hook you can get even more value out of Blitzcrank's kit, but holding a hook until the right time is also fine.


It's also much easier to land a hook if you walk up to a target and use E powerfist.png to knock them up, then Hook Q rocketgrab.png while they are still knocked up since they can't move for the duration.

Blitzcrank's mana pool during the laning phase gives you about 4-5 hook opportunities before first recall before running out of mana.

If you have a pushing lane, roaming is very effective on Blitzcrank, all you need is level 2 rocketgrab.pngpowerfist.png to start ganking, it's better if the minion wave is into the enemy tower before leaving lane so that by the time you gank and move.

It's easy to get tunnel  visioned when trying to land a hook, or look for a hook. Be sure to move your eyes towards the minimap every now and then, playing with the information of the map, is a lot better than being eagle eyed on the enemy bot lane all the time.

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid Game you will have access to Blitzcrank's ULT staticfield.png making you deal more damage and be even more dangerous. Now when you land hooks in lane they should be kills 100% of the time, if your ADC does any sort of damage.


You should also have 3117.png Boots of Mobility, allowing you to roam from bot lane a LOT faster, and a Blitzcrank AFK in the bot lane shooting hooks is ok, but if the enemy Mid lane is gankable (with no gap closer to escape 136.png63.png112.png) than you should invest some time to gank them.

Be sure to try and gift the kills to carries, they are the ones that will carry you with damage, no matter how many kills Blitzcrank gets himself, it doesn't make him much stronger, only slightly tankier, which is eventually met by the enemy support, or over powered by enemy carries.

Don't over Roam, if you completely abandon your ADC bot lane, than they won't be able to farm safety and will most likely die, costing your team gold on the kill, and a tower bot lane.

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game can be won or lost completely off a good or bad hook, or missed hooks.


During the Late Game most games will come down to a Teamfight around Baron / Elder Dragon which will make the enemies position and movements very telegraphed, and there will be tons of Fog of War on the map for you to exploit 3364.png2055.png 

As much as you can you should try to position in a control warded 2055.png bush and looking for a hook over a wall that enemies are likely to come near to ward, or to move toward the current objective (Baron / Dragon)

During Teamfights Blitzcrank can have hard time being useful, you don't have to hook the first target you see, since that target will most likely be the enemies front line tank, which you and your team don't want near them, save your hook until you can get onto, or force yourself onto an enemy carry worthy of hooking. 

Look to hook to most fed members of the enemy team, if you can single them out and take them out early in a fight your team is much more likely to win it.

Blitzcrank is deadly from level 1 rocketgrab.png his hook quickly isolates an enemy and brings them into your team that will most likely quickly burst them down.


Instead of AFKing on a Jungle Buff level 1, ping your team for to follow you and invade the enemy's jungle and hook the first target you see, and don't be afraid to use Flash 4.png to get in range.


During the laning phase you will have a lot of roam opportunities some more valuable than others, but it's important to be able to spot or predict when you can roam.

After the first 3 minion waves Bot lane you can look for a roam mid, especially if your minion wave is pushed all the way into the enemy tower, if it is not than you have to asses the minion wave's position, if you leave it when it is even than the enemy bot lane can walk past it and look for an engage onto your ADC, or zone them from getting any CS while you leave lane. Before roaming for a gank you also need to look at the Mid lane / Lane you are ganking and look at the minion wave, your ally's health and mana, the enemy champion's health and mana, and both champions position, and also factor in any champion that could join the fight which is most likely Junglers / Supports. From this information gathered it will give you a better idea of if you should go for the gank or not.

You will also have the opportunity to roam after a reset, when you and your ADC recall you can move from base to another lane for a gank, moving to the Top lane will take a long time, and you will miss and your ADC will be alone bot for at least 2 minion waves.

Ganking Mid from Base is a lot easier and gives you a faster path back to bot lane afterwards, you can also choose to gank from either the left or right side of mid which each will have their own advantaged specific to the matchup.

When ganking a lane you want to get in make a play and get back to bot as fast as possible, wasting time is bad for you and your ADC. So when approaching a gank use W overdrive.png as you are exiting the fog of war and be ready to use Flash 4.png + E powerfist.png  + Q rocketgrab.png to setup for an unavoidable hook as your ally burst them down. Blitzcrank's ability to push a minion wave sucks and takes a long time, really consider staying in a lane after getting a kill to push out a minion wave vs just moving back to the bot lane.

If you are coordinated enough, and if your Jungler has a lead, moving with your Jungler into the enemy's jungle to gank them on a timed buff, or if you see them on a ward is a very easy way to get a kill and cause a lot of disruption, the enemy jungler also doesn't have a tower to run to making a chase down possible.
