Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png+3.png Has become my standard summoner spells as the only thing Cassiopeia lacks, is an escape. Therefore, I don't like going Ignite on her, since she already has enough damage. Exhaust makes up for the escape that she's lacking, and it will also make you an insane duelist, even better than with Ignite.

4.png+14.png Vs. easy matchups you know you can kill in lane.

4.png+12.png If you're top, or if you have a really rough lane(and you're against an annoying jungler), so you can get back to your lane fast.

4.png+1.png If you're against something with annoying CC. Pick this against someone like Morgana, Ahri, Twisted Fate, Lux etc.

4.png+21.png This is something I don't go very often, since it's very situational. It can be BEASTLY coupled with an Abyssal Scepter, which will amplify the shield even more with further magic resist. Take this against someone that's very heavy on burst like Syndra maybe even Lux(even tho I'd take Cleanse against Lux).

4.png+6.png Ghost is another summoner spell I don't use very often. Ghost can be INSANE if you buy Boots of Swiftness with the Distortion enchantment. You will be a VERY fast anaconda. Pick this against someone like Ryze who more than likely also will use Ghost.

Masteries Back to Top

Stormraider's Surge is a really underrated mastery on Cassiopeia. Together with your movement speed boost from Q this mastery is insane and will make you a kiting beast.

We max E since it's her primary source of damage. We take one extra point in E so you have more trading potential in the early levels. It's also very good to get early kills with. W won't help you that much at level 3 if you can hit your Q's. However, it CAN become handy if you're against a melee champ as it'll make it a lot easier for you to use your E, since it's easier to hit your W on melee champs as they will always move towards you if they try to fight.

Starting Items

    First back

Core Items

Rush Archangel's Staff asap, as it will help you scale A LOT faster. Build Abyssal afterwards. I LOVE building Abyssal Scepter. This item makes you so beefy against AP champions, and it also gives a decent amount of ability power. It ALSO helps you shred through magic resist. Overall, I love this item so much.
Get a Rylai's Crystal Scepter before your Void Staff if your enemies doesn't have a lot of magic resist. Build a Void Staff as soon as possible if people are stacking MR. This will give you a huge power spike once you get it, if they have a lot of magic resist.
Rabadon's Deathcap is Cassiopeia's ultimate item. It's the item that turns Magikarp into Gyarados. You build this in almost every game as it synergizes so well with your passive. You will have 1k+ ap with this item. Once you achieve this item, Cassiopeia is pure terror.

Situational Items

You can swap out Rabadon's Deathcap with Luden's Echo, if you feel like you need the extra movement speed. Rabadon's overall, will offer you more damage though.
Only build this if you really need the magic penetration it offers. If you're against many tanks, stacking magic resist and health, this item is really good as it shreds their hp and also offers magic penetration.
An insane item to build if you're against HEAVY poke like Xerath, Azir, Ziggs etc. You will have imba sustain with this item.
Rush this item after Tear if you're against an AD champion like Zed/Talon/Yasuo.
Rod of Ages is better than Tear if you want a really strong laning phase. Tear does scale better though. The sustain from the Catalyst is really good. Build this against hard lanes.

VS

Anivia

Hard

I personally HATE this matchup. It's hard to get an early cheese off because of her annoying passive. After level 6 she will just E->R and outtrade you hard. You need to do continous trades with her as she wins the bursty ones. You can nuke her passive down easily. Go 1.png in this matchup.

VS

Annie

Medium

Respect her burst. Abuse your range advantage. Get your second point in E at level 3 and try to get an early kill.

VS

Azir

Hard

Cassiopeia's hardest matchup hands down. Kill him in the early levels 1-3 or he will turn into your worst nightmare. He can poke you down from 10000000 range without you being able to go near him. Ask for jungle help.

VS

Brand

Medium

This matchup is similiar to Xerath's because of his long range. However, Brand is less safe than Xerath is. Xerath has a stun and a big slow. Brand's stun is hard to pull off, and as long as you dodge it, you will have no problems against this fire guy.

VS

Cassiopeia

Easy

EASY! You're obviously the best Cassiopeia after you read my guide, so this matchup will be EASY!!!

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Bully this guy out in the early levels, 1-3. Dodge his Q by hitting your Q to get increased movement speed. All in him at level 3 with ignite and 2 points in E. This matchup varies from easy to hard. If you can cheese him in the early levels, he won't come back into the game, because you will keep killing him over and over again. However, if he gets farmed, and gets his items, he will be able to oneshot you if you don't dodge his Q. Don't forget that Cassiopeia is a beast lategame, so you will always have a way of outplaying him, even though he becomes quite tough to deal with.

VS

Diana

Hard

This is pretty much like the Katarina matchup just a little bit harder. Bully her out in the early levels where she is weak and get an advantage. Care about her level 6 as it's really strong. Try to pull off an early firstblood/kill by leveling Q>E>E first. She becomes tough to deal with if you don't get an early advantage, as Diana is naturally tanky and tough to take down. She will never be a problem if you dodge her Q though, but no one can dodge all spells - but focus on dodging Diana's Q especially, as it's like getting hit by a Nidalee spear, you're most certainly dead if you get hit by it. It isn't that hard to dodge neither.

VS

Ezreal

Easy

Eazy peazy lemon squeezy.

VS

Fizz

Hard

This matchup varies from easy to VERY hard. If he cheeses you at level 4, you will most certainly not come back into the game as he will keep killing you over and over again. Level 1-4 you can bully him HARD. Try to make him low health here, so he can't all in you at level 4.

VS

Galio

Easy

Piece of cake. Bully him out in the early game where he is VERY weak. He WILL become tough to take down as he will be VERY tanky later into the game, but you generally don't wanna focus this guy. He doesn't deal a lot of damage, so just ignore him and focus on not getting hit by his ult, and try to take down the squishy carries on the enemy team instead.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

Freelo. Kill his turrets for free mana refunds and gold. You outscale him hard. Try not to get cheesed by his ult though, it can oneshot you. Take either 21.png if you're a bit nervous about his damage as barrier can save you from his all ins. Take 14.png if you're confident and know you can bully him out. Overall, this matchup is a piece of cake, and you should be happy if they picked Heimerdinger.

VS

Katarina

Easy

Bully her out in the earlygame. Take 4.png and 3.png. Exhaust is really good against Katarina as it reduces her overall damage a lot - use it when she ultimates you, and just straight up kill her. Try to keep her away from roaming, by pushing the lane in constantly, and harass her under turret as much as possible.

VS

LeBlanc

Hard

Can be RLLY hard for newer Cassiopeia players as it requires you to play passive. You begin to outscale her hard post 9, so don't try to fight her before that. Ult her when she is about to W you right after having used her Q.

VS

Mordekaiser

Easy

Easy matchup. He won't be able to touch you since you outrange him so hard. He doesn't outscale you neither, like Mordekaiser does against most enemies; but not Cass =).

VS

Morgana

Medium

Can be an annoying matchup, but generally she won't have any kill potential on you. She's immune to Rylai's slow though, which is why she's annoying.

VS

Nidalee

Easy

You're better early- mid and lategame. Just try to dodge her spears, and you're good. She won't be able to escape you once you get your Rylai's. Her earlygame CAN be scary - but so can yours.

VS

Orianna

Medium

VS

Riven

Medium

Can be hard to poison if it's a good Riven. Don't get level 3 cheesed by her. Riven is the ultimate level 3 cheeser. Take 3.png in this matchup.

VS

Talon

Hard

Bully him hard pre-6 where you have a chance. Take exhaust in this matchup. You will outscale him, but not in duels. Be aware of his strong all-ins after he hit level 6.

VS

Vel'Koz

Easy

You will most likely win the laning phase, and you also outscale him hard. This is generally a really easy matchup. Don't underestimate his damage once he gets his ult. Try not to get hit by his spells. They're really easy to dodge, however, if you do get hit - they deal MASSIVE amounts of damage, so care about this.

VS

Xerath

Hard

You win hard early game, try to abuse this. When he starts to get items he will become really annoying as he can shove the lane with just one Q and W, and you can't trade with him, since he outranges you. Try to get an early lead and snowball off this. Keep in mind that you outscale him. Just care about his midgame, as you can't touch him due to his huge range.

VS

Zed

Hard

Go 3.png in this matchup, because it screws up his ultimate damage completely. It will save you from A LOT of potential deaths.

VS

Zyra

Easy

Her range can be VERY annoying; but generally if you get the chance to get up on her, she's a freekill. Once you get Rylai's it's over for her.

Pros/Cons Back to Top

Pros:

Very capable of 1v2'ing
Fun to play
A gamechanging ultimate

Cons:
EXTREMELY reliant on hitting your skillshots
Lowest base health in the game making her extremely squishy without items
Relies a lot on positioning

Lore Back to Top

Cassiopeia is a terrifying creature - half woman, half snake - whose slightest glance brings death. The youngest daughter of one of Noxus' most influential families, she was once a beautiful and cunning temptress capable of manipulating the hardest heart. Transformed by the venom of an ancient Shuriman tomb guardian, she continues to serve Noxian interests as she always has, just in a more... visceral way.

Boots choice Back to Top

Boots choice:
We always go 3020_32.png on Cassiopeia as it's without doubt the best choice.

3258_32.png- if you got ghost/flash on Cass

Q: Why go for Furor?
A: Because her cassiopeia-twin-fang.png is a single target skill, so it procs furor, allowing you to chase or kite even faster after your cassiopeia-noxious-blast.png and cassiopeia-twin-fang.png.

Useful general tips Back to Top

-Almost always go for Q harass while your enemy is auto attacking for CS. It's simple, it's strong, and come level 2-3, it's extremely threatening.

-Hold on to your ult if you're getting ganked or dove. Do not panic. Make sure you can get an angle to stun at least one of them. If not, then it's likely you aren't going to survive anyway (without burning a summoner).

-Buy pinks (or the Vision trinket upgrade). You can sit in bushes with it and make picks with your ultimate. Not only that, but if you run into a bush that already has a pink in it while you're being chased, you can turn around a fight with your ultimate if they all continue to pursue.

-You need to stay safe in lane, so you need LOTS of wards. 2 greens every time you recall if you can. It may be annoying/tedious when you have 2 doran's, Tear, boots, and a Blasting Wand, but wards will probably save your life (if not yours, then your team's) more often than a biscuit/potion would. With wards on both sides at all times, you can definitely play more aggressively if you so choose.

-If your lane opponent dodges your Q by walking backwards (more specifically out of their auto-attack range on a specific creep they're trying to CS), it's often the case that you can place your W in that same area and it will tag them. Do this if you are actively looking to trade/fight with them.

-Before you have your Tear (and even then, without Blue early on with the Tear), just use your poisons and auto attacks to whittle the minions down then finish them off with your E to get the mana refund. When you have Blue, you can get away with just spamming E to kill creep waves, but before then you must be smart with your mana and using your mana sustain mechanic properly to get the most out of your time in lane.
-Remember that if you tag your lane opponent with poison, going in for 2-3 E's is just poke. You don't have to go all in. If you max E, going in for 1 or 2 is your most effective poke. If you max Q, then just tagging the opponent with Qs constantly is your poke. It is fairly rare that you can 100-0 an opponent without your ultimate, so don't bank on an all-in when you get back to lane.

-To stay safe moving around the map, check brushes with W. It gives vision of the (small) area around it, so make use of it whenever you feel unsafe (even in lane, check one of the side brushes with it over the cliff/wall).

-Move in between your Es. Self explanatory. It's just an extremely useful mechanical thing you should actively work on just like moving in between auto attacks.

-If you're committing to taking a turret (when it's safe) clear the minion line in between auto attacks on the turret with a miasma field, Q, and E, just to be more efficient (clearing enemy minions will prompt your minions to focus the turret).

-Using your ultimate just for the damage or the slow is not a bad idea at all. The damage and slow is great for helping you land the finishing Q or E.

-Miasma field is actually a great zoning tool especially for the enemy backline. If you can place it in chokepoints or areas where the enemy (ADC in particular) wants to step to get damage in, it can be a lethal step if you're nearby when they do. An easy way to see the effectiveness of this is using Miasma on the ramp in front of Dragon that leads to the red side Blue buff while your team is securing Dragon. Anyone who walks through that while you're alert will eat a ton of DPS (while healing you!) trying to contest. It's an overlooked skill that actually rounds out Cassiopeia's traits and kit really well.

-Like many AoE/multi-target ultimates, hitting a lot of people is great, but it can be very effective to get it on just one important target.

-Obviously, be very aware of who is poisoned and when that poison will run out. If your W is down and you're thinking of switching targets, your next Q is quite important.

-Do keep in mind, though, that if you tag someone with E twice, your next poison spell (often Q) deals 40% extra damage! -When playing against dive or strong frontlines, respect them. Please. Do not ignore them especially if they have hard CC, as you will get focused down and punished by the enemy backline (unless you have QSS/Zhonya's/GA).

-You can definitely make big plays without your ultimate; your raw damage is insane at around mid-game. Just landing a Q on someone can lead to you chunking them out, which hopefully leads to some meaningful advantage or even soft initiation for your team with Rylai's slowing the target, allowing your team to follow up.

-Ranking up W at level 3 can sometimes be a good idea, especially against melee champs. It's an extremely good 1-point wonder spell.

-The poison debuff works a lot like Diana's moonlit (or whatever it's called) debuff: if your target is ever hit at any point by your poison spell (Q or W) then casting E on that target even before the poison has been applied will proc the CD refresher on E. As in, just as how Diana can Q towards someone and use R on them before the Q even reaches them, it will consume the debuff and refresh the CD of her R. Obviously, the risk here is if your enemy dodges the Q in time, but you still casted E assuming they would get hit by Q, then your E goes on full CD.

How is Rod of Ages? Back to Top

I have certain feelings about RoA. It's a strong item yes, but the problem I have with it is that you are required to rush it. With the Tear build, you can go Tear straight into Rylai's, which still gives a lot of Health, Mana, and AP, but also gives you the all-important slow, and earlier in the game. This helps to cancel out Cassiopeia's early weaknesses. In addition to that, Seraph's is generally stronger and scales better than RoA later in the game. I personally never build RoA, but I don't think it's inherently a bad item on it. If you're that concerned about tankiness, or you really want to be at your absolute strongest in midgame, you can go for it.

RoA can be worth it, if you gain a substantial lead in your lane. If you can get shoes + tear + RoA in under 15 minutes, your powerspike at 25 minutes (usually this is your 250 stack mark vs competent enemies, but often if you are ahead you can be at 350) will be off the charts. RoA is effective against physical burst more than magical burst; if the enemy is running double AP you MUST get Abyssal instead. Cassiopeia has issues with item slot management, so there is never a fixed build for her.

Scripting on Cassiopeia(DON'T DO THIS!) Back to Top

What is scripting?

There are a lot of scripts to Cassiopeia. Scripts makes your skillshots perfect, and it also makes you able to kite superfast.
Here's a little example of an obvious Cassiopeia using scripts:
Why not to script, now that it's so useful?
NEVER script! Even though it might sound tempting to try, don't do it! Scripting is EASILY recognised, and you will most likely get banned. I can spot a scripter after two skillshots. It's easy to see the difference between a player moving, and a bot moving.

When you get good at Cassiopeia, you will VERY often be called a scripter. Just laugh at this, and take it as a compliment. Riot will NEVER ban you for scripting if you don't script.

Stages of the game Back to Top

Early game

Cassiopeia has a relatively weak early game. Yes she has good kill potential, yes she is a snake but she also isnt going to have her tear fully stacked so she is going to burn through mana at an alarming rate. During this phase you're going to want to poke in the lane and get as big of an advantage as you can. You're also going to try and attract as much of the enemy junglers attention so he cannot gank your team.

TL;DR: Try to get an early kill with your insane level 1-3 and snowball. If you don't get a kill, just farm up and wait till your tear+passive begins to stack up, as you will become a beast later into the game.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mid game

At this moment, your Archangel's Staff will be fully stacked and therefore will be turned into a Seraph's Embrace, one of the best AP items in the game when you're playing a mana dependant champion like Cassiopeia. This is the moment where you will begin to show some of your power. Group up with your team and begin teamfighting with a good ultimate. Almost always use your ultimate as a peeling tool instead of an engage, because engaging as Cassiopeia is really risky, especially if you don't have your Zhonya's Hourglass yet. Cassiopeia will begin to get bulky due to her big shield from Seraph's Embrace and her health from Rylai's Crystal Scepter. Be careful about walking alone, since Cassiopeia is a wet dream to catch off-guard as she has absolutely no escapes and only her unreliable ultimate which is pretty easy to dodge(not get stunned by) as her "escape" tool. As Cassiopeia you can take objectives faster than with other midlaners. If you have blue buff, you can absolutely MELT dragon/baron, so try to use this to your advantage.

TL;DR: Care about getting caught off-guard. Begin teamfighting. Focus objectives. Use your ultimate as a peeling tool instead of engage most of the time.
