Summoner Spells Back to Top

We're jungling here so we want smite.

Masteries Back to Top

You want 18 points into the Resolve tree to get Strength of the Ages which is the best keystone mastery for Elise.

Recovery > Unyielding, You wont be buying enough tank stats to really make unyielding worth it and in the short run the regen from recovery is much more worth the points.

Tough Skin > Explorer, Elise doesnt have many innate tank stats or abilities so you definitely want to take Tough Skin since explorer doesn't give you that much in the grand scheme of things.

Veteran Scars > Runic Armor, Having a nice chunk of extra HP right at the start of the game is much better than a tiny bit of extra healing throughout the game.

Insight > Perseverance, Getting reduced Smite and Flash cooldowns is much better than having regen while low especially when you consider how little HP Elise actually loses during her clears.

Swiftness > Legendary Guardian, Being able to shrug off CC is very important for most tanks and bruisers alike since it is the only way for many characters to stop you from jumping on them, additionally Legendary Guardian's bonuses don't scale and for most of the game more than 3 enemy champions won't be around at any single place at any given time.

The 12 points into Ferocity are mostly for more damage and sustain in the jungle.

Sorcery = Fury, both are really good; Fury shaves a bit more time in the initial jungle clear while Sorcery scales a bit better and is much more effective in team fights.

Double-Edged Sword > Feast, I prefer DES since it clears jungle faster and you don't need that much sustain in the jungle as Elise (spiderlings tank the mobs).

Natural Talent > Vampirism, Natural talent is much stronger than it used to be and with all the attack speed you bring is actually quite noticeable for your early-mid game clearing.

Oppressor > Bounty Hunter, I rather have guaranteed damage boost than a situational one. One bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.

(1st - Q)
Max Q first as it deals the most damage in both human and spider form. Get your first point at level 2 to help you clear the jungle.

(2nd - W)
Max W next for the damage since most builds nowadays incorporate a decent amount of AP and damage so you can actually trade very favorably if you max W second.

(3rd - E)
Max E last and finally get that stun duration up to its max rank, rappel is a 1 point wonder so the only major reason to put more points into it is for the stun duration.

For season 6, Elise's build path isn't too complex but has lots of options.

First you want to get your jungle item and tier 1 boots, which should be any of the 3 jungle items but always with the Runic Echoes enchantment.

Choose Stalker's Blade if you want to go gank-heavy

Choose Skirmisher's Saber if you want to tank a bit more in team fights

Choose Tracker's Knife if you just want to play safe and counter-gank or you feel like you can aggressively use the vision.

Then you want to get your tier 2 boots

Choose Swiftness if you want to just be fast and be able to pull off a lot of ganks

Sorcery Shoes if you want to deal a lot of damage

Mercury Treads if you are up against a very CC-heavy team and want to effectively front-line for your team.

Afterwards you want to build tanky AP items.

I personally recommend Abyssal > Rylai's = Deadman's Plate, finishing the build off with either Hourglass or Liandry's

VS

Evelynn

Medium

Eve does well against Elise in duels because she's invisible which makes her hard to track and she clears faster than Elise. Eve will almost always have the upper hand in early game duels due to her clear speed and she gets a large power spike when she gets her elder lizard and ultimate. Try to ward Eve's camps to track her and don't let her get right next to you in duels or she will out dps you.

VS

Gragas

Hard

Hard to make plays against Gragas in the jungle early and he has a much stronger mid to late game than you.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

Elise scales much better than Jarvan and can also beat him in duels. The only way Jarvan can beat Elise early game is if he gets the jump on her, so if you dodge his EQ combo the fight is really easy. Jarvan gets a power spike at level 6 and with elder lizard so be careful fighting him at those points but you will generally just outscale him.

VS

Kha'Zix

Easy

Elise does well against kha'zix because her spiderlings keep her from getting isolated and you can out duel him at most points in the game. Kha'zix is most vulnerable pre-6 so try to pressure a lot early game against him to get ahead.

VS

Kindred

Medium

Kindred can be quite potent at skirmishing so it is best to avoid extended skirmishes and look to just take quick trades with your burst to make her back off. If Kindred gets ahead of you make sure to help your laners ward up so that she can't snowball off killing them and make sure to try contesting her marked jungle camps with the help of a laner if needed whenever possible.

VS

Maokai

Easy

Elise is good vs Maokai or any other herbivore because she farms faster and can outduel them. Always keep wraiths warded against herbivore junglers because that's the easiest camp for them to clear and you'll see them pass by that ward a lot. Watch for their level 6 power spike and pressure the map as much as you can early game.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

Nidalee has decent chasing potential and can contest your burst so be careful when fighting her, against nidalee your best asset is your stronger ganks and counterganks against her so make sure to look for every opportunity for dives and ganks early.

VS

Sejuani

Medium

Sejuani outscales and outshines in teamfights if you do not deter her early game farming. So you'll need to outplay her in the early game in order to set your team up well for the mid to late game.

VS

Vi

Easy

Elise does really well against Vi. You can cancel her vault breaker with your stun and dodge her ultimate with rappel. Look for jungle fights against Vi because shes not very good at them, especially if she uses her vault breaker on a jungle camp because then she can only get away with flash

Early Game Back to Top

Elise has strong early game ganking so you should take advantage of it. You should look to make the most of your strong level 3 so start on krug/gromp depending on where you want to be at level 3, see if you can score a gank at one of your solo lanes ideally. If you can't, just continue farming and possibly look to counter gank. If unsure as to what to do, keep farming and try to stay relevant in terms of gold and items while dropping wards to help your laners avoid ganks.

Mid Game Back to Top

At mid game, you want to be keep tracking of all relevant monster camps (dragon + buffs) while laying down as many wards as possible; the more vision you have the more likely you are to have good calls and know what the enemy is doing. The basic Elise combo is to be in human form and cast all 3 of your spells (Q + W + E) and then immediately switch to spider form casting your Q and W, saving E to either dodge a spell, to gap close, or to disengage. Mid game, this combo does quite a bit of damage so be ready to skirmish. Also note, that Elise can solo dragon quite easily (though it is a decent time investment) so look to have vision control over the dragon pit in order to do so.

Late Game Back to Top

Late game, Elise doesn't particularly do much; you're kind of like a 2nd support. Still look to control vision over the map and to keep track of all the objectives. Your cocoon should be maxed at this point and since it's a 2 second stun, you should repeatedly using it trying to look for picks. Cocoon is your most useful ability late game and you should be spamming it in team fights in order to maintain as much CC as possible. At this point in the game, you need to establish with your team whether or not you'll be diving or peeling in team fights; evaluate both comps as it is almost always situational.

Author Details Back to Top

Hi, I'm Meteos who currently plays for Cloud9 in the North American LCS.

This is my guide on how I like to play Elise and I hope you can learn something from this guide.

Elise is a very unique and versatile champion and is one of the few viable AP junglers. She has several unique mechanics exclusive to her (spiderlings and 2 forms) that make her a very fun champion to play.
