Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png   Flash 

  • Good for Offense + Defense
  • You can cancel your abilities with it (more on that later)
  • Its flash you dingus. Take it !

14.png   Ignite

  • Used in lanes that are in your favour
  • Good into champions that heal a ton (Vladimir/Swain)
  • Can get you to snowball 

21.png   Barrier

  • This is useful into champions that can burst you down
  • It is the most potent early game and can be used to play aggresive
  • Has very low cooldown compared to other summoner spells

3.png   Exhaust

  • This is used into champions that can oneshot you and have to get into close range to do so (mostly assasins)
  • Compared to barrier it has high cd but it has a slow and % dmg reduction
  • The best summoner to take for late game

1.png   Cleanse

  • Great choice into champions that can one shot you after they hit 1 cc on you
  • Good into teams which have hard to counterplay cc(Lissandra, Ashe arrow, Annie,Twisted Fate) or just a lot of cc
  • It also cleanses Ignite dmg and exhaust slow
  • Keep in mind this does not work against suppression like Malzahar ult !

 Maxing order: R > W > E  > Q 

W is your best ability to max first because it deals more damage than Q ( You only really need Q for early game and Lich Bane/Sheen procs).

E is the best to max second as it gives you a lot of damage and Mobility

Q is the last to max because what else will you put your remaining points into.

R should always be leveled when possible. It is your ulimate after all.

Starting Items

    Most efficient starting items.
    Buy control wards you nerd

Core Items

    The first thing to go for.
    Finish Lich bane and get standard AP items. Remember to get void staff first and afterwards Rabadons.
    Last item choice. This is personal preference which I will later talk about. Dont forget your pots

Situational Items

    Dark Seals is a niche in between item if you feel you can get some stacks off. If you want to tryhard I dont recommend upgrade to Mejais since you will lose too much if you die even once.

    Worth picking up if you need some defensive stats/cc reduction against heavy AD/AP+CC comps

Now the most important part of the guide is the items. There are a lot of different options when it comes to them but the most efficient and overall is the one Mentioned above. I will explain the reason you purchase these items.


Core Items:

3100.png   Lich Bane

This is the best item on AP Ezreal for a number of reasons. No matter what this is a must have.

  • Sheen items are great on Ezreal no matter if its AP or AD and Lich Bane makes him deal much much more damage and gives him a decent amount of long ranged Poke
  • Mana, AP and 10% CDR are all useful stats on AP Ezreal

  • This item is great on any burst mage and it provides AP Ezreal everything he is lacking:
  • 20% CDR
  • 100 AP
  • Mana sustain
These items will provide you with everything you need and should have:
  • Lich Banes "Spellblade" passive will provide you with much more damage and poke since it procs on your Q and will just give you the most damage once you start getting more AP
  • a total of 30% CDR - This is very important on Ezreal since he works really well with CDR in general (more mobility + consistent damage + more poke). You want to go for exactly 30 % CDR so your Spellblade Passive procs on every single Q. Going for 40% will hurt your dps and is innefficient and generally should be avoided if possible
  • Mana/Mana sustain. Both items give you a nice chunk of mana and especially Lost chapter passive for laning phase and Morellonomicon for mid/late game will give you some nice mana regen since AP Ezreals mana costs are pretty high and it also gives you the ability to poke down enemies on lane with W.
  • AP- This is pretty self explanatory

Lich Bane VS Morello Finish

Both items are good to go first, just for different reasons. Lich Bane provides you with a chunk more consistent damage (and therefore waveclear) while Morellonomicon gives you 20% CDR and Grievous Wounds passive which can be useful against Vladimir for example. Just make sure to have both lost chapter as well as sheen before upgrading either!

Typical AP stuff:

3135.png   Void Staff

  • After having your core items, Lich Bane and Morellonomicon, you should always get Void Staff (unless you are forced to get a defensive item but more on that later). Void Staff should always be purchased over Rabadons Deathcap. Void Staffs item efficiency is far greater than Rabadons Deathcap once the enemies have aquired even a tiny bit of Magic Resist (usually from base stats + runes)

  • You're an AP Burst Mage and you want to get this for more damage obviously
  • This can sometimes be purchased over Void Staff but only when none of enemies have Magic Resist and none of them are going to build Magic Resist.You will sink a lot of gold into this and if the enemies suddenly get Magic Resist you will deal a lot less damage

Last Item:

Your last item choices usually deviate around either building 3285.png or 3146.png. Both are great items to have on AP Ezreal and provide you with a lot of extra damage from their passives and utility, so lets start comparing the two items.

3285.png   Ludens Echo 

  • 20 More AP or 27 to be exact since you have Rabadons Passive
  • Unique Passive- Echo: Deals AoE 100 flat + 10% of your AP Magic Damage. It can be proced with any ability but not with Q - Mystic Shot
  • The biggest Difference: 10 % Movement Speed

3146.png  Hextech Gunblade

  • 40 AD
  • 15 % Healing on your abilities (but reduced to 5% for your W and your R because they are AoE abilities)
  • Unique Active - Lightning Bolt: 175-250 + 30% of your AP Magic Damage. It also slows the target for 40% and has 700 Range (a bit more range than your Auto Attack Range)
  • Keep in mind the Active does have 40 s cooldown

Now which one do I get ?

The main difference between the 2 items is that Ludens Echo gives you more mobility and AoE Damage and its safe to proc. It can outperform Gunblades Damage if you hit multiple enemies with the passive proc. Gunblade however gives you much more burst on a single target and can be great for Asssasinating someone. It also helps kiting against a singular person and gives you a decent amount of healing.

Getting Ludens or Gunblade as Boots replacement

Both Ludens Echo and Lich Bane give you a bit of Movement Speed so it can be considered replacing your boots with the respective other item. I advise against this if you are struggling to kite and to stay alive.

Defensive Items:

3157.png   Zhonyas Hourglass

As I have mentioned above an Item like 3157.png can be purchased instead of Ludens Echo/Gunblade if its truely necesarry. If you cant avoid dying to someone like Zed get this item as early as possible. Then proceed to build your regular core items and AP items.

Why I am not a fan of this item:

This item will provide you with surviability with the cost of multiple things

  • This item will give you 40% CDR which will make it that every second Q will proc Lich Bane (if you spam it whenever its off cooldown
  • Picking up this item will mean that you are delaying your Items and gives you much less power in early/mid game
  • This item gives you much less damage than Ludens Echo/Gunblade since it gives less AP and no Damaging Passive

3140.png  /  3139.png  QSS / Mercurial Scimitar

Not much to say about this item. It should only be picked up if the enemy is focusing you with their suppression ultimates (Malzahr Ult, Urgot Ult). Against CC its avoidable since you can pick up 1.png Cleanse.

Final Comment about Defensive Items:

With enough experience on match ups and AP Ezreal in general it can be avoided to purchase defensive Items. Respect threats and utilize your summoners and your blink to the fullest.

She will be hard to kill in lane. Keep in mind she can outsustain you with her passive and dont jump into her with E unless her charm is on CD or you will kill her with it.

Avoid getting hit by her stun. Dont jump into her when her Q is up. Winnable match up but do keep in mind about her passive.

If she uses her ult and her Q to clear a wave its your chance to kill her. If she plays passive you are forced to sit under tower and farm.

Poke her down with your Q and engage when you can burst her. Dont overextend with Auto attacks since she can stun you if you get in her range

Keep track of her dagger positions. Unless she definetly has her E on cooldown dont throw out your W.

Use your E to avoid his stun. Poke him down and all in when he is low enough.
