Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

Untitled-1.png

4.png Flash is the first Summoner Spell and I recommend always taking it when you're playing this champion. This is because Flash is the best Summoner Spell around. It is a really good and reliable Summoner Spell. It can be used offensively, defensively and is honestly, a really good Spell to take.

12.png Teleport is the second Summoner Spell that you should take on him. This Spell is really good because it can be used to get back to lane quicker and it can also be used to help your team. In the early game, you want to teleport back to lane after your first back. Then you should look for Teleport opportunities where you can help your team.

New Runes Back to Top

For Galio I recommend going for the Resolve tree as your main line. This is because you will be playing tank Galio, while also doing damage. However we will move on to that soon.

Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=32 Grasp of the undying is good on Galio as you can easily auto most enemy champions and the bonus damage will be good.

Demolish.png?width=32 Demolish is another good Rune because you will not always be able to kill your enemy, so having this tower damage will help you out a lot in lane.

Iron%20Skin.png?width=32 Iron skin is standard on the majority of tank top laners.

Second%20Wind.png?width=32 Second Wind seems to be good on him- especially against the toughest of match ups.

In the second line I recommend Sorcery. Galio has extremely good damage output if he buys some AP items. While we are not going to build damage.

Transcendence.png?width=32 Transcendence will help him deal damage to the enemies. I recommend this AP more orientated line as Galio is strong at dealing damage.

Gathering%20Storm.png?width=32 Gathering Storm is the next rune and increases your damage.

Galio's Passive is Colossal Smash

Galio's passive is every 8 seconds gives him an AOE damaging auto attack that effects any enemies in its radius. The passive gives him extra bonus damage depending on level. The cool down can be reduced by 4 seconds if Galio hits an enemy with an ability.

 TIPS:

Galio's Passive can be used on towers as well as enemy champions and minions.

Screenshot_35.png179.png

Galio's Q is Winds of War

Galio fires two wind burst that arc to either side and then merge to the target area, dealing magic damage to all enemy champions and minions they pass through. When the two meet they form a tornado that deals magic damage.

 TIPS:

Your Q can be used in a few different ways which includes zoning. You can zone champions in lane when you use your Q, even if you miss it the enemy will try and stay away from it thus zoning them from minions. You can use Q and E to fast push the wave.

Screenshot_36.png
179.png

Galio's W is Shield of Durand

Galio begins to charge a taunt that circles around him- for two seconds he slowed and reduces incoming damage by 30%. The enemies in the radius of his circle are taunted for a short period of time. Galio's W has a passive where he gains a shield that absorbs damage of of maximum health- to get this shield Galio must not take damage for 12 Seconds.

 TIPS:

Galio can taunt enemy champions that get in the radius of his W. If the enemy laners are walking forward and receiving a gank, you can use your W quickly and instantly cast it. The taunt won’t be great but it will give you a small chance where you can escape. If you ward the enemy bushes too, you can hide in there and cast your W and catch someone, followed up by a Q and E. The problem with Galio's W is that you get slowed if you keep it on cast. You can perform surprising moves if you W Flash W too. In team fights you should taunt as many people as you can. There is an indicator to show you how long until your W shield passive will be up.

Screenshot_37.png

179.png

Galio's E is Justice Punch

Galio dashes backwards and charges forward, he deals magic damage and knocks up all enemies effected by it. However this ability cannot be used over terrain and will stop if you hit a wall.

TIPS:

Galio can Fast push waves by using his Q and E on the back minions to push the lane. Galio's E moves backwards before shooting forward. This can be risky to use when trying to escape enemies. This is because you go closer to enemies allowing yourself to be open to attack before getting away. The cast time of this is also "long" so enemies can walk in front of you and cancelling your great escape! You cannot use it to get over walls.

Screenshot_38.png
179.png

Galio's Ultimate is Hero's Entrance

Galio targets an allied champions location and channels and dashes to that location. Upon impact he deals damage and knocks up all enemies inside of it. Until landed, galio's allies receive reduced damage until he lands.

TIPS:

Galio's ultimate can be used as soon as the fight starts, and you can ult anybody who is caught out of position. The range on the ultimate is pretty big, so you can jump to allies from quiet a far away, this is good for counter ganking other lanes. You should use your ultimate on an allied champion when the enemy engages on the character.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    RECOMMENDED START
    Take this vs poke lanes.
If you are in a terrible matchup take the corrupting potion and try to stay as safe as possible.

Core Items

    Example Full build (Recommended)
Get this item if you're vs a Heavy poke enemy laner who is AP, this is good vs Teemo and Rumble as it gives you MR, HP, HPregen and CDR. The passive is great at poking enemy laners too.
Get a fresh pair of Sneakers once you have your first item built
Next you should go Iceborn Gauntlet as it gives you extra CDR, Armor and Mana to use your abilities. It is great vs AD teams.
Great item as it gives Health, Magic resist and Cooldown reduction (even with the recent nerfs, it is still good vs AP champions)
Good little item with Armor and health. it has a passive that can be used to protect your team.
This item is amazing on Galio. It gives MR and Armor but also has an insane passive that should be used in team fights to give you extra health.

Situational Items

Build the boots depending on the enemy team composition. Does the enemy have mainly AD or mainly AP?
    Current highest winrate:

Abyssal Mask

Buy this vs AP laners. It gives health, magic resist, regeneration and Cooldown reduction. The aura of this item is great at poking champions with your Q.

Iceborn Gauntlet

Build this vs enemy teams that deal lots of AD damage. The item gives Cooldown reduction aswell as armor and mana. It is really strong early as it can allow you to use your abilties more often with the added CD and Mana.

Spirite Visage

This item gives you health and Magic resist. It makes you tanky and gives added healing.

Randuin's Omen

This item gives you armor and health. The item has a active that can slow enemies down that are in range. This item can be used to help your team mates if enemies get to close to them. It also reduces critical strike!

Gargoyle Stoneplate

Gives you Magic resist and Armor. It has an insane passive that gives you 30% bonus health and should be used in team fights. The item is strong as it can save your life when fighting. It is recommended vs teams that have both AP and AD.

Because of the item choices. You can buy these in any order, you should buy them in the order you prefer or need.

VS

Darius

Medium

Darius is a medium matchup because of his insane passive. Both of you are melee champions and this makes its hard for you to farm. Whenever darius auto attacks you his passive will activate and will start a bleed on you. You need to not get auto attacked by Darius. If he does auto you then you need to run!

VS

Fiora

Medium

Fiora is a medium matchup because of her being a AD champion who is a fighter. This is a hard matchup because fiora in general is a hard champion to play against anyway. In this matchup you should use your Taunt whenever she comes in range of damaging you.

VS

Gragas

Easy

This is a easy matchup because you’re both tanks. You want to poke him down whenever you can by using your Q. He does have body slam which can be used as an engage and disengage so beware of that. He will also burst you, If he goes to body slam into you then you should try and escape with your dash.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

This is a medium matchup. You need to poke him when he comes to farm. He can Flag and drag into you and will win if he hits you. In this match up you need to just play safe and ask for ganks. You cant escape his ultimate with your dash. So you need to use summoners or try to ult away.

VS

Jax

Medium

Jax isn’t played much anymore, but here are some tips on how to play this lane. Firstly you should get armor as soon as possible. You need to play safe and poke him down when you can. His Q can jump to you and jump to minions, so he can counter your Q damage. You should Taunt him when he comes close to you and then you can back off or run away.

VS

Jayce

Hard

Jayce is a hard matchup because of his range. Jayce can deny you farm and harrass you whenever you go to farm. In this matchup I would recommend staying healthy by losing CS but gaining XP. What I mean by this is, stay in xp range but don’t sacrifice your HP for 1 CS. When he goes in melee form to attack you, make sure you taunt and E away.

VS

Malphite

Easy

Malphite is an easy matchup. You need to poke him when he comes to farm. You should win this matchup, you can set up ganks by Dashing and taunting him.

VS

Maokai

Easy

This is a easy matchup because you’re both tanks. You want to poke him down whenever you can by using your Q. In this matchup you want to Poke him whenever he comes to CS. You can also taunt him if he gets to close to you. Note you cannot taunt him when he is using his W.

VS

Nautilus

Easy

This is an easy matchup. You need to poke him when he comes to farm. You should win this matchup, you can set up ganks by Dashing and taunting him. Beware of his CC.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

Pantheon is a horrible matchup. He will keep spamming Q in lane. Do not go for full trades because he will come out on top. When he is 6 Tell your team because he will Ult to mid or bot. If he ults near you, then you can taunt him and stop his ultimate. Poke him down with your Q and make sure to buy pots!

VS

Renekton

Medium

Renekton is a medium matchup because he is an ad fighter melee champion that does a lot of damage. In this matchup you want to not get caught out by his burst damage, watch his fury bar because the strength of it increases his damage. He will deny you CS and fight you for every bit. The best time to go for cs is if he uses an ability, or you can use your Q to make him back off, allowing you to CS.

VS

Rumble

Medium

This is a medium matchup because of his abilties. You can win this lane because Rumble is incredibly immobile so it is easy to set up for ganks. You need to get magic resist early and sacrific your CS for XP and health. You should not push the lane, Rumble is melee too so you can win this lane if you get a gank early. A good Flash taunt can turn this lane quickly.

VS

Sejuani

Easy

This is a easy matchup because you’re both tanks. You want to poke her down whenever you can by using your Q. Reworked sejuani is a little harder to play against because of her damage. In this matchup you want to taunt her when she gets close to you. In this matchup you need to be aware of ganks because she can lock you down.

VS

Shen

Easy

This is a easy matchup because you’re both tanks. You want to poke him down whenever you can by using your Q. In this matchup you should focus on poking him down and farming denying him CS. You cancel his ultimate with your Taunt.

VS

Sion

Easy

Sion is a easy matchup because you’re both tanks. You should have a easy time farming, you should poke him with your Q. your taunt does not stop his ultimate, however your taunt does stop his knockup.

VS

Teemo

Hard

Teemo is a hard matchup because of his ability to harass you and poke you. In this matchup you should just play safe and try to farm safly. Sacrifice your CS for XP to stay even in levels. Get Magic resist early if he is building AP. Teemo is easy to kill if you poke him down, or get a gank. Dash into him and then taunt him to do a good amount of damage, followed up with your Q you can burst him.

VS

Trundle

Easy

This is an easy matchup. You need to poke him when he comes to farm. Trundles passive is insane and takes your MR and Armor. When he comes to farm you should poke him. His Pillar can stop your taunt cast so keep that in mind when playing vs him.

VS

Volibear

Easy

Volibear is an easy matchup because you can taunt him whenever he comes near you. You can win this matchup buy building HP and armor. If you get a frozen heart then you can slow his Auto attack speed. Beware of fighting and diving Volibear because of his health regen-based passive. This can make this matchup a challenge for you. You should poke him down whenever he comes to CS.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Yasuo is an easy matchup because you can taunt him whenever he dashes around you, a good yasuo will poke you down if you come up to CS. You can do that to him aswell with your Q. His windwall blocks your Q. In this matchup you want to focus on putting him behind early so he cannot snowball late game.

Gameplay Disscusion (What you should do) Back to Top

In the early game you want to be focusing on farming and getting an advantage over your enemy laner. You should use your abilities to poke the enemy early and only fight when the favour is in your hands. If you are in a good match up then you can play aggressive. If you are not in a good matchup than you should play passive and not fight unless you have to. If you are in a horrible matchup where you are vs. a ranged champion, then I recommend using your abilities as an opportunity to make the enemy back off from denying you CS. If this doesn’t work then you should use your Q to farm if possible. However-do not go out of mana. Play safe and get ready for the enemy to misplay.

If you are being ganked then you should use your abilities to escape. Your Q is a really good buffer for enemies, they either walk through it and take damage, or they walk around it and potentially give you time to get away. If enemies get to close to you then you can taunt them and run away.

When you have finished the early game, you want to start to group or split push. Your ultimate gives you insane range and can be used to help your team- or to escape. When you have items then you will be able to fight more freely and will be able to have an easier time farming. If you had a poor laning phase don’t worry, focus on helping team. You can engage on enemies and protect your team if they come to close.

Team fighting is where Galio excels. He is a tanky champion and can soak up lots of damage and deals a good amount with his Q. You can be the secondary support for your team- because of your taunt, your ult and your Dash- you can protect your team.

Late game is where Galio can win or lose a game: duhh. Once Galio has items, you will be able to soak more damage for your team and will be able to protect your team. In the late game you want to focus on catching the enemies and protecting your carries.

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

1 ) When casting W, you gain 20% damage reduction which can be used in aid of protection vs poke champions.

2) You should wave manage against champions by controlling the wave. At early levels you should get the level advantage and slow push the wave.

3) Because of Galio’s Passive, you will keep slow pushing the wave.

4) You can deny enemies CS by using your Q near them which will make them back defensively.

5) Your ultimate makes you un-targetable.

Useful Combos:

Flash W – A instant taunt is very hard to dodge. Can be used when you’re getting a gank.

W Flash – Taunt the enemy then flash to get in range against quick opponents (The W slows you so keep that in mind.)

W E (AA) Q – Standard Combo for Galio to deal burst Damage
