Summoner Spells Back to Top

I always take FLASH and EXHAUST with Gangplank. exhaust is a very important summoner spell used in solo lanes. GP has no escape, no hard cc, and can be tower dived easily. Using exhaust keeps GP alive in lane and in team fights. This is the best spell for him.

12.pngDon't take TP with GP. He's very squishy and wouldn't do well chasing opponents with TP. Don't forget you have a global ultimate to contribute to distant team-fights.

6.pngYou don't have to take Ghost. Gangplanks Barrels automatically give a burst of movement speed. Combined with the movement speed from your TRINITY and PHAGE, you should have no trouble with bursts of speed.

Always learn Parrley first. gangplankqwrapper.png
Second level is either kegs gangplanke.png or oranges gangplankw.png. This choice is situational.
Take Oranges if you are low on health and are taking aggressive trades. Kegs don't really do damage to minions on level two. But Keg's do come in handy. Use the Keg's Slow to aggressively trade back.

41.pngMelee or Safe? Gangplank fights well from afar and at a safe distance. I've also played him as a melee monster. With complete items builds with CRIT and AS, I managed to slice others using Gangplanks Melee form. This is recommended because of Gangplank's Trial of Fire Passive.

I start with Dorans because it gives me sustain until I can get Sheen and maybe Boots or Long Sword.

Currently there are two builds revolving around Gangplank. After Trinity Force

First is the build starting with Infinity Edge and Boots of Lucidly. This build is OK because it gives crit more early on.

Second is the build starting with Ghostblade. There are many advantages starting with Ghostblade. First, it gives extra movement speed, this is great for returning to lane or roaming around the map. Second, it already has 10%CDR, by now you should already have 45%cdr. Third, it gives some lethality, this means you go for a late game build which GP is really good at. Fourth, you have more options on boots, Boots of Swiftness are an option with Ghostblade, if you want to build defensive then you can also buy Armor or Magic Resist Boots. And Fifth, it's cheaper and easier to build up to, Ghostblade is broken down into 4 Long Swords (350), Infinity Edge is broken up into 3 pieces which cost at least (800) a piece. Buying a Ghostblade second is perfect if you can't scrape enough gold.

3508.pngLet's talk about the Essence Reaper. For GP to really pump out damage, he needs AD and CRIT. Infinity Edge accomplishes that, but so does Essence Reaper. Essence Reaper is decent on GP because it helps him complete is Crit Chance to 70 or 100%, gives him a lot of AD, and gives him sustain. I would recommend buying this as a last item or a replacement to a Zeal item.
