Summoner Spells Back to Top

Teleport - always nice for getting back to lane for xp and cs in the early game, and mid to late game it is a destructively offensive spell for flanking and uneven team fights

Flash - because 96% usage, but really... obviously defensive, but later in the game I tend to use it offensively, to make sure I am in the middle of the fight for my ult to get as many enemies as possible, or even to flash E someone for their soul

Masteries Back to Top

Honestly, I have her set as tanky as possible. I know a lot of builds make her a bruiser or hybrid AD and tanky, but I almost never build an AD item on her at all, so masteries to match the items and role.

I tend to take Q at level 3 because Illaoi's early laning is slow, and can be punished rather easily. She doesn't have much wave clear, so the 2 points in Q are mainly to help her sustain HP by hitting enemy champions and last hit low minions a little better.

I max Q first for the reason above

Outside of her ultimate, her next skill to max is her W, the lower CD and slightly higher damage adds for trading, plus, I believe it is an auto attack reset. This is eventually where your main source of damage comes from in my build.

I skill E last, use it as often as I can for the extra damage and the debuff if they move out of range or their soul is killed in time. Its also good to try to double up the E's if you catch an enemy with the first one, they are going to be focused on killing the spawning tentacles so you can often times get them again when they are going in for the tentacle killing blow. A perpetual soul chain.

Situational Items

QSS for heavy CC teams; frozen heart for attack speed champs - like vayne, yi, jax, etc.

So here is the real reason you came here. So far, again based on my elo, I'd say a higher portion of 90% of my games with the core build there I've actually had highest or 2nd highest damage to champions in the game at the end, at least on my team... oddly enough. But I attribute it to the Sheen proc within the Iceborn Gauntlets.

I buy ruby crystal 1028.pngfirst because I want to rush to get Bami's Cinder 3751.pngas soon as possible on my first return to base. This is an absolutely necessary item for laning phase, because it triggers your "Grasp of the Undying" Keystone, which allows you to sustain even more, and allow for a more aggressive trade on your part.

After Bami's I go straight for the Iceborn Gauntlet 3025.png pieces, shooting for Sheen 3057.pngif possible first, if I can't afford it on my second return, i'll buy a mana crystal 1027.png and cloth armor 1029.png and try to get a glacial shroud 3024.png since its cheaper.

Once you get Sheen the trade becomes that much better because of the proc when you use your E, then you get health back from the keystone and more health back if you manage to hit them with your Q. The mana and CDR of Iceborn also REALLY helps spam Q/E to start becoming a bully in lane.

Once Iceborn is completed, I get boots of swiftness 1306.png because Illaoi is a really immobile champ, she is very slow and she has the smallest of "dashes" with her mini dunk, but that is point click target-able typically for offensive movement, so she needs help moving around the map and dodge skill shots. Dead Man's Plate 3742.png is the next item up, again I want the movement increase, plus the proc at 100% collection on top of the Sheen proc, plus health and armor of course. As of late, a lot of teams are very AD centered, so the majority of my builds are focused on stacking armor so I'll finish Sunfire Cape 3068.png, for the later half of the build Zz'Rot Portal 3512.png and Banner of Command 3060.png are really good for maintaining lane pressure after the laning phase is over. I like to round out the build as a last item of Spirit Visage 3065.pngby adding a little more HP, CDR, and that very useful stat of +HP% recovered for skills with. Of course these can be substituted with alternatives based on the enemy team comp.
