Summoner Spells Back to Top

*Make Sure you Take FLASH ON F lol * KEY to be good Kappa

TELEPORT

I almost ALWAYS take TP for top(even mid lane)

Reasons:
  • Illaoi wants to avoid team fighting in general until 3 items
  • Illaoi best thrives in 1v1, 2v1, 3v1 scenarios
  • Illaoi can wave-clear very well, which makes for a good split push
  • By taking TP, you can create a HUGE map presence to distract for your team. Examples:
  1.  Because almost no champion can 1v1 Illaoi, the enemy has to devote 1-3 members usually to deal with Illaoi. So your team can take objectives like Baron, Dragon, or Turrets on the opposite side of the map. And you can respond with TP to assist team or cause a backdoor threat.
  2. TP is generally a necessary summoner especially when behind or to respond to other split push threats.
Teleport - is a huge summoner for Illaoi despite the nerfs to TP.
I have not tested many other summoners besides exhaust only because I find very little need in other summoners.

Ignite - Illaoi has tons of Damage already (definitely not that useful late game imo.
Also Executioners Calling is a decent pick up in certain scenarios

Ghost - Could be useful on Illaoi to prevent getting kited (haven't tried to be honest)

Heal - I can see this one being tilting and annoying for the enemy to deal with, but seems minimal compared to the pressure Illaoi gets with TP or reduction that could be attained with Exhaust. Also Illaoi Heals way more from her tentacle slams, but could add survivability. Try it out :O

Barrier? - Meh
Smite? - DONT GO JUNGLE (even though the clear isn't that bad)

EXHAUST -

I have tried exhaust. I take it if I think the enemy is taking exhaust (YASUOS!!!!!), but only if I think that they have a good comp for Yasuo or we have a bad comp for Yasuo. (Yasuo is a decent counter)

I have also taken exhaust against ignite cheesers :P
but I'll usually take TP for Panth with Ignite, Wu with Ignite ( those are champions that go in to do damage and Illaoi can generally squash that.. LITERALLY)

I'll take Exhaust for RENGAR top sometimes (cuz how many rengar tops have you faced? not that many, but on that off chance you do face one in higher elo, they usually take exhaust instead of TP).

The MAIN occasion to take EXHAUST is when you're facing a super snowball lane, with alot of early Damage or burst. You can make those laners kind of useless in lane and teamfights if you just exhaust them during their burst (Wukong Ult).

Another time might be when you have a good disengage, waveclear, safe team. To aid their siege you can split push (without tp I KNOW DANGEROUS). but if you have exhaust you can likely attract atleast 2 enemies and exhaust REALLY helps 2v1. If they send 2 damage dealers (your team can pressure well without the enemies 2 damage dealers.)

BASICALLY ILLAOI IS A HUGE DISTRACTION ( I will elaborate again)
OR a Teamfight STOMPER ( I know I said she isn't GREAT at teamfights) (<- for High elo)

Masteries Back to Top

If there are SPECIFIC questions about the masteries ask me on STREAM! :D Twitch.tv/D1egend

Grasp has so much synergy with Illaoi W

I do SOMETIMES run Death Fire Touch (ask me about those situations). Usually against 100% squishy team.

Q max is best because your E tentacle slaps, W tentacle Slaps, R tentacle Slaps increase by a percent by LEVELING Q

E max second because
  1. W cooldown is flat through levels and goes down to 2 when ulting
  2. E max goes from 25 -> 45% PERCENT DAMAGE TRANSFER. and its 45(+ 8% per 100 AD) which can go up to a total of around like 60-70% when you add your total AD.
  3. Cooldown also goes down from 20 to 12 seconds.

KEEP IN MIND. HUGE TIP. AND HINT.

ILLAOI R DODGES CC (AZIR WALL, GNAR ULT, MALPHITE ULT, YASUO TORNADO).
IF YOU ULT when THEIR CC is supposed to HIT YOU. you DODGE the EFFECT OF IT. USE THIS WISELY!!!!!!!!

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Situational Items

Starts
During early Lane I personally rarely use auto attacks  to harass and in a lot of matchups I might even farm with Q up to level 3. For this reason:

I do not go Dorans Blade.

Illaoi's early laning phase is also very passive in my opinion (I have faced aggressive illaois, but that is not my general playstyle). If you want to skirmish and trade often try out Corrupting potion.

I go Long Sword refill pots because I like the added AD to the spell vamp and helps CS. I also like the refill pots because I do tend to back often in the early game and the refill pots do pay their dividends.

CORE

Generally you want to start Death Dance or Black Cleaver first.

  • Facing a tank(shen, maokai, nautilus)? go Black Cleaver
  • Facing a fighter(Fiora, Jax, Pantheon)? go Death Dance
  • Look at the "matchups" for some specifics like Darius/AP champions
After going 1 of these core items, if you are facing an AP heavy team or AP Jungle + Mid, consider going Visage second. If it is not necessary then build the OTHER core first item and then go visage. The spell vamp and Healing from visage is very crucial. If there are no AP threats go Steraks as one of the first 3 items. Steraks is a big core item and should be built at some point because it aids survivability and gives an AD buff.

Iceborn - If they have a yasuo or high mobility team  and you need some armor item. The Sheen proc does wonders and the slow field is really helpful for your tentacles.

Maw - Against a VERY HEAVY AP comp and generally should replace steraks (because the passives don't stack anymore). I would go this if the enemy has AP tanks or consistent AP dmg rather than AP burst.

Deadmans - If they have alot of AD and need to rotate (HP items are SUPER strong on illaoi, avoid building non-HP items- besides Iceborn)

Titanic Hydra - Now. this is a HUGE item for illaoi in terms of damage because she is an HP based champion, BUT you'll rarely see me going this because Illaoi already has amazing waveclear and most of the other items with resistances are more important. If i sell my boots, I'll pick up this item XD

Matchups Back to Top

Illaoi vs Yasuo Back to Top

157.png - Yasuo is a HARD matchup. Yasuo windwall blocks Illaoi E (which is HUGE in a 1v1). Yasuo E provides so much mobility that it makes it hard for illaoi to hit ANY of her abilities in the first place AND it allows yasuo to easily dodge the tentacle slaps. GENERALLY i would avoid putting yourself in this matchup.

Illaoi has to play around the windwall, if she misses the E, she will generally lose every 1v1.

For more tips ask me on stream.

Illaoi vs Gnar Back to Top

150.png - SUPER ANNOYING TO FACE ( I BAN GNAR ). He can safely clear your tentacles. Once he gets frozen mallet and Black cleaver GG (TOO MUCH KITE). When he is in Mega Gnar if he times his abilities well you pretty much never get to do anything.

As Illaoi, You have to harass and whittle him down while he is squishy bitch boy gnar with Q. If you can land an E you can generally make Gnar use his hop which makes him vulnerable to ganks.
IF Gnar ever hops INTO YOU without Mega go HAM.
If Gnar hops into with MEGA GNAR, wait to use ULT to DODGE atleast 1 of his CC's.
