Summoner Spells Back to Top

Just before we get into it, a little bit about me.

Hi, I'm SirJaxximus a diamond Jax Main on EUW. I almost exclusively play Jax in the Jungle. I recently ranked up a new account from silver to diamond with a 72% winrate with Jax. I honestly feel that he is quite underrated in the jungle and many people have a misunderstanding of what Jax's role is as a Jungler in this meta imo. I'm here to give you guys a better understanding of how to play Jungle Jax my way. Hopefully you'll learn a thing or two and I can help you climb elo with the Grandmaster of Arms.

This is the first time I'm making a guide or doing anything of this sort so bear with me :P

Why Jax Jungle?

Jax is currently very strong in the jungle if played properly. With my set-up an build he actually does very well and can hold his own against some of the hyper aggressive or controlling junglers in this meta such as Elise, Lee Sin, Graves or Nidalee. He outscales practically every jungler out there and can be more useful to a team than even utility based tanks like Zac or Amumu providing you play the match-ups correctly and get far ahead enough in the early/mid-game (will go into more depth about this in the champion match-ups section later).

Lets talk summoner spells.

Alright, now that we've got the formalities out of the way lets get into the nitty gritty, starting with summoner spells.
  1. 11.png Self-explanatory, you go jungle? Take smite to secure jungle camps and objectives like drake or baron.
  2. 6.png Ghost is excellent for chasing people down, it makes it harder for your opponents to cc and kite you.

I bet I already know what you're thinking right now. Why no 4.png ???????

Even though Flash is decent let me explain why ghost is far superior than flash on Jax Jungle. Firstly ghost allows you to use your summoners a lot more aggressively early on with it being a much lower cooldown than flash. Often you will find that when ganking a lane pretty early on blowing a flash to gap close on your target and get your counter-strike stun off will result in them flashing away pre-emptively as they see you, at least in the higher elos. With ghost you can use it just before a gank and get close enough to achieve the same result. Even if they blow a flash if they arn't near a turret you will be a lot quicker and can in most scenarios get your stun off. Even if you don't, it means that you just traded a ghost for flash which is always a good deal.

Ghost also scales much better lategame. Even though Jax is a monster late game he can be kited pretty easily and chain cc'd. Ghost negates this weakness. Since you don't run flash with this set-up, you need to get used to WARD JUMPING using your leap ability and targeting a ward, getting over walls and essentially using it like the flash summoner spell. Get used to a practicing ward jumps in customs, it can either save your life or grab you more kills in the heat of battle in a real game.

TLDR: Take ghost, its better than Flash.
