Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png12.png
Take Flash / TP when your mid laner doesn't have lots of mobility to roam, or when you can take advantage of the enemy botlane's weaknesses. Teleport is a more objective focused summoner spell, it also allows you to splitpush which jayce is very good at.

4.png14.png
This is rarely taken top lane. Take it only when 2 of these situations are met;

Your midlaner has TP
You have a mid lane Twisted Fate / Kassadin
You have great kill potential in lane
They have lots of healing e.g. 36.png16.png8.png

Masteries Back to Top

I choose to go fervor because over time the damage stacks up to an immense amount, especially when you are peeling for your ADC late game, max fervor stacks goes well above 100 damage on every hit in the late game. This makes quick work of any tanks.

You can choose to go thunderlords if your intention is to dive their backline but I prefer to play a less risky playstyle.

Since lolking doesn't have the new ability scheme for jayce. Follow the above but make sure to put all 6 points into

Q -> W -> E before moving onto maxing the next ability.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Allows you to have kill pressure early in lane, Jayce's level 2 is very good if you can land your QE in cannon form before diving in.
This can also be taken in a lane in which you need to sustain and kills aren't on the table. Such as going against Trundle or Maoaki.

Core Items

These 2 items are core. I dont think there are many situations where rushing youmuus and black cleaver isn't the best choice.
I think this is where my build differs from other Jayce players. I choose to go a tanky route after my core items, which still allows me to one shot squishy targets and the iceborn allows me to peel for my carries.

Situational Items

An early hexdrinker on your first back can be very strong against an AP champion.
These two items can be very beneficial against a high armour team. Mortal reminder is a must build against champions like mundo and swain.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Never even seen anymore. Squishy enough that you can burst him down before he can use his W to heal himself once you have ghostblade.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Easy

Rarely seen top. But your gate into to the skies allows you to dive into his circle before he can stun you. This makes him deal almost 0 damage since neither his stars or Q can hit you. A very easy matchup from the beginning.

VS

Darius

Medium

You can use your E to knock him away when he is charging his Q. Go in after his Q misses you. You can out-trade him in short trades but he will win lengthy exchanges at almost every point in the game.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Hard

Mundo becomes almost unkillable after level 6, before that take advantage of your ranged poke and wait for him to use cleaver on a minion or missing it before you dive in with hammer form. After 6, DON'T try to beat him in a 1v1, build a mortal reminder to beat his sustain late game and kill him with your team.

VS

Fiora

Hard

In my opinion one of jayce's hardest matchups. If she Ripostes your knockback when you are trading, you have lost the trade and need to back out immediately. Poke her down with EQ in lane. You can beat her in a 1v1 late game as long as she doesnt proc your vitals a lot.

VS

Fizz

Easy

Fizz's poke in the early game uses his entire skillset. Once he uses playful/trickster to back off in lane, switch to your hammer form and engage on him. You will outdamage him in every scenario where he doesnt have his W up. Late game with merc treads and maw of malmortius, you can easily 1v1 the fizz.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

A lot of gangplanks power lies in the players ability to use his barrels. Engage gangplank after he has used a barrel. You can poke him in lane with hammer form since most gangplanks will save their W to cleanse your slow from jayceQ.png

VS

Garen

Medium

You can knock garen back while he is charging at you with his Q. After he has burned both his Q and E. You can re-engage on him with hammer form and almost always beat him in a a 1v1. A good garen will save his Q and E for when you try to fight him. But this allows you to push him in and deny him farm.

VS

Illaoi

Hard

Fuck this champion tbh. Take your time to clear her tentacles before you engage her. Once she has ult you will have to fight away from tentacles and hopefully be able to kite back away from the ult zone.

VS

Jax

Medium

You can knock Jax back when he has jaxcounterstrike.png up. Once it triggers you can jump back in on him and outdamage him pre-6. After 6 keep track of his 3 hit passive and wait for the third hit to be used before engaging on him. Jax has no built in sustain so your ranged poke proves hard for him to handle.

VS

Kayle

Easy

You can beat her from level 1, she will use her E to farm and once it has finished you can dive in and completely outclass her in damage. At level 1 kayle will have no more skills at her disposal and with the help of your fervor / thunderlords you can almost always force a flash or get a kill.

VS

Kennen

Hard

Kennen outranges you with most of his poke. His passive really sucks for you because if you dive in he can use Q->E->W to both stun you and retreat to a safe distance. Avoid fighting him in a direct 1v1 unless his E is down and you can survive his ultimate.
