Summoner Spells Back to Top

14.png Ignite is great if you want extra kill potential or if the enemy team has someone like 36.png or 50.png.  I find that ignite is typically the best option as it allows you to shine when you're at your strongest.

3.png I'd run exhaust if the enemy team has a lot of assassins or high threat carries such as 222.png119.png67.png.  It also ensure that you'll win EVERY trade in mid lane especially against 157.png105.png13.png69.png.  It cripples their DPS and if you pair exhaust with karmamantra.png + karmaspiritbind.png you should never die.

12.png Teleport is not something I run often, but I understand the benefits. 43.png is strongest in the early stages of the game and being able to quickly get to another lane and assist is beneficial.

Masteries Back to Top

While some would argue that Thunder Lords is better. I find that it can be difficult to proc especially in the later stages of the game when you'll mostly be poking with karmaq.png.  DFG adds a nice amount of damage and paired with 3151.png will do a considerable amount of damage.

I always opt in to the more aggressive mastery options because 43.png already has so many defensive tools in her kit. This allows you to maximize your damage, kill pressure, and wave clear.  Improving your laning phase.

You obviously want to max karmaq.png first because of the insane damage and wave clear it provides.  Starting karmaq.png at level 1 grants you access to karmamantra.png + karmaq.png right away. This will deal huge amounts of damage at level 1 and either force your lane opponent to recall or set up an easy kill later.  It also clears waves extremely quickly and allow you to chip away at their turret. I've been able to take first turret blood as 43.png extremely often because of how aggressively you're able to harass the enemy mid laner and shove in the wave.

Next you want to max karmasolkimshield.png. It allows you to play super aggressive because of how much damage it can mitigate. It also serves to keep you safe from jungle ganks due to the speed boost. ALWAYS WARD the river bush and hug the side that you have placed your trinket on. Investing in an early 2055.png is strongly recommended.

You max karmaspiritbind.png last because the damage it does provide is minute. Grabbing an early point in this at level 3 is all you need for the root and procs it provides to lower the cool down on karmamantra.png

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Dark Seal works great on Karma as you should be able to pick up several early kills and assists. It provides a huge power spike early. Karma's power spike is already early in the game, this start just enhances it.
Solid starting option if you're new to Karma or don't believe you'll be able to pick up early kills.

Core Items

these items are MUST haves on Karma. They drastically increase her damage output and utility at all stages of the game.

Situational Items

These are all late game items you should strongly consider grabbing. They increase your damage and utility and get you to the 40% CDR cap.
3165.png You'll typically want to rush this item first as it provides everything Karma needs. It gives CDR, a nice chunk of AP, and helps you maintain mana. The only time I don't purchase this item first is if I am able to amass an extremely large lead early in the game.

3285.png If you're luck enough to get off to a great start I'd strongly suggest picking up this item before 3165.png. It helps you wave clear, provides a nice amount of AP, and the movement speed is also beneficial.  The passive also works amazing with karmaq.png.

3089.png A core item on any mage. Nothing else really needs to be stated.

3504.png Ardent Censer is an item that synergies with Karma extremely well.  Not only does it provide CDR and Ability Power. It also increases the strength of your shields and heals, which you have plenty of.  As you transition to late game I'd highly recommend picking up this item as you become more of a utility mage/support. Only opt in to this item if you're confident in your ADC or Top Laner. Especially if they happen to be playing a bruiser/fighter such as 24.png5.png114.png122.png, or 11.png

3041.png Only get this item if you're extremely far ahead. It provides movement speed, an a crazy amount of ability power. However it is highly risky and if you start to get focused in team fights the item loses all of its value.

3174.png  Karma is one of the few mages that can utilize this item to its maximum benefits. You'll be poking a lot with karmaq.png so  you shouldn't have any issue stacking the passive. It also provides a nice amount of MR and makes your shields HEAL an ally. The little AP it provides is also nice. Again this is only an item you should purchase if you have a lot of confidence in the rest of your team.

3151.png Paired with the DFG mastery is amazing at chunking down tanks, bruisers, and those pesky fighters.  Not to mention both karmaq.png and karmaspiritbind.png will proc the passive. The extra HP and MP are nothing to laugh at either.

3135.png  If my ADC is behind or just bad, I'd skip both 3504.png and 3174.png. Instead opting in to more damage. Void Staff increases your damage by reducing the enemy's MR. It also provides a decent amount of AP.

Overview Back to Top

When you're deciding what champion you should select for mid lane there are a plethora of variables to consider. Some of the most important things to consider are: high burst damage, wave clear, roaming potential, lane pressure, poke damage, utility, crowd control, and kill pressure.

If you're looking to check all of those boxes and bring the most flexibility to your team composition than look no further than 43.png

While 43.png might not be the best at anything, she does it all well. This makes her an extremely flexible option that works well with any team composition.

With her unique access of having her ultimate karmamantra.png at level 1 her laning phase is extremely strong.  She can wave clear like a beast thanks to karmaq.png and even more so with karmamantra.png + karmaq.png. She has a ridiculous amount of kill pressure due to her high base stats and crazy AP scaling. Most people will underestimate this and you'll find that you're able to pick up several early kills. karmasolkimshield.png ensures that almost any trade goes in your favor as you'll be able to shield most of the incoming damage.  She can roam quickly as well thanks to the movement speed boost on karmasolkimshield.png. Getting ganked? No problem. Karma is the queen of kiting. Tag the closest assailant with karmaspiritbind.png and speed and shield yourself away with karmasolkimshield.png.  Her mana costs are very low so don't be worried about spamming abilities. By landing auto attacks and abilities on enemy champions you also utilize her passive karmapassive.png. This ensure that you'll have karmamantra.png available as often as possible.  This is you're strongest stage of the game, do the most you can to get yourself and your team ahead.

As you transition to mid and late game utility and crowd control become Karma's biggest assets. karmamantra.png + karmasolkimshield.png will be extremely strong at this point. Whoever you tag with Defiance will receive a MASSIVE shield (sometimes over 1,000)  and the rest of your team will get half that amount. This enables your team to win team fights or even disengage or engage thanks to the movement speed boost it provides. Karma is essentially a second support late game, but if the opportunity presents itself don't hesitate to karmamantra.png + karmaq.png in a team fight. Especially if you can hit the back line. It will deal massive damage and sometimes even one shot the carries.

I currently have over 460,000 Mastery Points on Karma. She is one of my favorite champions and I believe she is vastly underrated. Hopefully this guide will help enlighten you on why you should be playing Karma in the Mid Lane.

Pros and Cons of picking Karma Back to Top

PROS:

- Strong early game. Karma has one of the strongest level 1's in the entire game. She maintains this power advantage through level 5. ABUSE IT. Constantly harass your lane opponent and force them to back or outright kill them. Recall, purchase, repeat.

- Almost always has a winning lane match up. There are few mages Karma truly struggles against thanks to her great range and defensive options. karmasolkimshield.png allows you to maintain a health advantage in lane at all times.  karmaq.png is great at farming and harassing. Land 2 or 3 karmaq.png on your enemy and laugh as they are forced to recall or die.

-Access to empowered abilities right at the start of the game. Nothing is better than throwing out karmamantra.png + karmaq.png at level 1 and watching your opponent's HP drop below half.

-Utility and versatility. Karma is, in my opinion, the most flexible mage you can pick. She can go full AP and nuke carries with karmamantra.png+karmaq.png. Or you can instead be a late game support with 600 + AP and use karmamantra.png +karmasolkimshield.png to give your entire team gigantic shields. This will negate huge AOE ults like ziggsr.pnggangplankr.pngezrealtrueshotbarrage.pngmonkeykingspintowin.png, etc.  Essentially allowing your team to easily win a fight.

-Underestimated. From my personal experience most people vasly underestimate the damage output of karmamantra.png+karmaq.png allowing you to easily snipe carries at half health.  Her AP scaling on all of her abilities are surprisingly high.

-Good wave clear. Very rarely will you ever be pushed under turret as 43.png. The fact that karmaq.png has an extremely low cool down and does great damage should ensure you're always pushing in the wave.

-Flexible item builds. Other than 3165.png and 3089.png there are no true core items for 43.png. This allows you to optimize your build for any given game. You can also experiment with different builds and have great success because of her great scaling and versatility.

CONS:

- No true ultimate. She gets no power spike at level 6 like most champions. Be sure to abuse levels 1-5 to ensure you are able to obtain a lead.

-Only one real damaging spell.  Despite karmaspiritbind.png dealing some damage, it is very unnoticeable.  This means her DPS is rather low, especially for a mid laner.

-Damage falls off late game. As the enemy team builds MR and HP her damage falls of rapidly. This is why you typically want to transition to a more utility/support oriented build late game.

-Relies on teammates. Karma isn't a carry, while she may be able to solo win a game pre 30 minuets it becomes increasing harder to do so as the game time ramps up. Her biggest asset late game is  karmasolkimshield.png and if your team doesn't know how to play around that you could be in for some trouble.
